Chapter 33 Bad Connection
A.N. – Time to meet the final Lyoko Warrior's parents: Odd's! We've seen everyone else's except for Odd. But Xana will not let them have a nice family reunion. Also, the Lyoko scene has a little addition in it. Let's begin!
admiral809 – Thanks for more clear explanation of what you were expecting. I was wondering what you meant when warned me about that episode. I did read that fanfic and it does kind of goes against the laws of space and time, but then again, the whole show does that with the whole 'Return to the Past' program. For me, when I was thinking about this before I wrote the first chapter, the only way to seeing how their ages would link up is if Aelita was the older of the two.
Guest – It was more like suggestions, but I think the general idea still followed the idea of the episode from the original. 1&2. I could use both of them. Have a more of a Lyoko Warrior Family Reunion. 3. Remember that Ulrich has pretty horrible grades, and with the clone being infinitely smarter than him, his grades has drastically improved, and Ulrich's parents stop by to check in on him to see what the deal is, especially his dad. And then the rest you know as it will follow the original with a few changes.
Guest – For starters, I wouldn't do that because I am following the original for the most part. Any changes that are custom are still true to the original in a way. Second, even if I could, my bonus chapter would not allow it to happen.

"Odd, I know you're in there, so open up!" William shouts at his door, which is locked. "I swear, why does Odd do these things."
"Dunbar, what do you think you're doing walking around half-naked?!" Jeremy calls out in a deep voice, the girls averting their eyes.
"Jeremy, you need work in your humor skills. Plus, Jim would've come in running."
"Why are you dressed like that?"
"Ask Odd. I went to shower, came back, and the door was locked."
"Why?" Aelita asks.
"Don't know. He's acting like he can't hear me, which I know he can."
"Let me handle it," Jeremy knocks on the door. "Odd, if you don't open up this door right now, you can forget about my portion of meatballs!"
"Odd rejects food?" William says confused after waiting for a few seconds. The door unlocks a few seconds later. "Guess not."
"Never fails. William, you first." They step into the room to see him sulking. "What's wrong with you Odd? Is it because of your film?"
"Yes," Odd looks away. "I mean no. It's not the first time a film of mine will be screened for an audience of ignoramuses."
"Well then, what's wrong?" Aelita stares at the boy.
"My parents are in town, and they're coming to see my film…"
"That's really nice of them" Yumi says.
"No, it stinks!"
They share a look of confusion. William sits down next to him.
"Let me guess. You had a fight with them, and you hate them?"
"No, just the opposite."
"Well, tell us?"
"A weird relationship problem," Odd stands in front of a desk. "Teenagers are always having lots of conflicts with their parents. A generation dap, except for one: me. My mother and father are always cool, supporting, understanding. In fact, they're just perfect."
"If Ulrich was here, he'd happily trade yours for his in a heartbeat."
"If there was only something we could fight over, so I could finally be a normal adolescent" Odd places his hands on the desk.
"What a major drag," Jeremy closes his eyes. "I really feel sorry for you Odd."
"We can really fell your pain" Yumi deadpans at him.
"That's right, I wouldn't wanna be in your shoes" Aelita adds in.
"I knew I couldn't expect you to understand" Odd replies to all of them.
They step out of the building after William's gotten dressed.
"Hey, maybe your film will suck, and they'll be disappointed with you?" William says, trying to cheer up Odd.
"Yeah, that would be too good to be true" Odd comments as his parent's car arrives.
"How's it going kid?" Odd's father asks with a smile.
"Couldn't be better" Odd mutters.
They come around to greet him, his mother kissing his cheek. "Odd, it's really so good to see you. And you look wonderful, you've still got that great appetite, don't you?"
"And these must be your friends," Odd's father looks to the four. "Odd talks a lot about you."
"How do you do?" Aelita greets them.
"Hello sir" Jeremy adds in.
"Hello" Yumi says next.
"Pleased to meet you" William says last.
"Hey, where's your roommate Ulrich? I don't see him" Odd's father asks.
"He's in my room. Me and him traded for a short while so I'm Odd's new roommate. We forgot to tell Ulrich you were coming."
"Hope we get to see him soon."
"We do too" William mutters quietly.
"We're really delighted to meet you all at last. Here, this is a present for you. You can wear it to the screening son. Why don't you try it on?" Odd's mother gives him a box.
"Okay, but later. I'm really much too busy right now." The two parents smile at each other, the four friends glancing at each other.
"Guess he's a little uptight because of the screening" Odd's father says to Odd's mother.
"That's understandable. After all, it is a premiere!" Odd's mother agrees with him.
The parents are speaking with Mr. Delmas in his office. "You're absolutely right, of course. Odd is undeniably talented, he's very creative, intelligent. He participates orally in class, but-" Mr. Delmas starts.
"It's true, he is intelligent," Odd's father interrupts. "You know, when he was barely 2 years old, he managed to completely take apart his uncle's stereo."
"And I'm sure if he'd been 4 at the time, he would have been able to put it back together" Odd's mother adds in.
"Is that so? I hope to be quite an electronics buff myself. And, uh, well, I…" Mr. Delmas clears his throat, unsure of what to say. "Anyway, as I was saying, your son has many fine qualities, but-"
"Oh, you needn't to tell us that!" Odd's mother interrupts this time. "He's got qualities coming out of his ears! He eats well, he has a wonderful sense of humor, he loves a good joke!"
"Even when it's not funny" Odd's father points out.
"He's a daredevil on a skateboard, and he has an excellent ear for music too."
"Yes, undoubtfully no doubt about it, no. However-" Mr. Delmas tries to say.
"If he wanted to, Odd can be at the head of his class," another interruption comes from his father. "But he's just too modest for that."
The principal sighs in defeat.
"You were saying Mr. Delmas?" Odd's mother asks him.
"No, nothing…" Delmas just had a first-hand look at why Odd has a problem with his parents.
"Oh, you've been very reassuring. You know better than I do that young people today just don't work hard enough at school!"
"That's true," Odd's father stands up. "They have trouble concentrating. Well, we don't wanna keep you any longer Mr. Delmas. You must have a lot of work to do."
"Yes" Mr. Delmas responds.
"Goodbye" Odd's mother calls out as they leave. He turns on his computer and starts to play his penguin game. He tries to get the head on the body, getting a game over. His door opens as Sissi comes in.
"Oh, what's the matter with this piece of junk?!" Sissi exclaims and questions.
"Something wrong Elizabeth?" Mr. Delmas asks as she storms in.
"Yes, it stopped working?" She holds up her phone.
"It did? I paid a lot of money for that."
"I told you to buy the higher price model." She places a hand on her hip with a huff. He pushes up his glasses.
"Now, now Elizabeth. Let me have a look at it. I'll fix it for you in no time at all." He takes her phone.
"You know how to do that?"
"Why, of course I do," he examines the phone. "I have a true gift for delicate work." He gets a screwdriver and sticks it through the phone. "When I was your age, my nickname was Mr. Circuit Breaker or Fix It, that is-" He sticks the tool right through the phone, to her dismay. "Is this thing still under the warranty? Sissi, hold on!"
She simply slams the door behind her.
"Good evening," Jim greets Odd's parents with a salute. "There are some seats in the front row."
"We'll have a large popcorn, please" Odd's father places a hand on his shoulder.
"Oh, sorry, I don't have any. But I might have a box of nibble jack's lying around somewhere in my room."
"I was only kidding." He chuckles a little.
"Yeah, sure. So was I."
Jeremy pulls up his laptop. "I'm putting it to sleep. Odd would kill me if the superscan went off in the middle of his film."
"And anyway, there's not much chance that Xana would launch an attack during the three minutes the film lasts" Aelita laughs at him.
Sissi is sitting a few seats back, still upset about her phone and because of another thing. "Hey Sissi, what's the matter?" Herb asks next to her. "You don't look so great."
"Odd has made fun of me in every single one of his films!" She grumbles, turning to him.
"Yeah!" Nicolas starts laughing.
"Keep laughing Nicolas, and the whole school's gonna find out what happened to Mrs. Hertz's hamsters!" Sissi threatens and he shuts up.
"Okay, I'll stop."
Odd's mother looks around, standing up. "But where's Odd?"
"I have no idea" her husband answers nearby.
William gets onto his feet. "I'll go grab him." He walks off and the others hum. William walks past the principal as he walks in.
"Very well, now we can begin," Mr. Chardin speaks up. He clears his throat in front of the podium. "Welcome, cinema lovers, to this special screening of Mandibles and Purple Mauve, the latest creation of our own Odd Della Robbia. Please do forgive me for not having seen this work yet. I understand, however, that the film cleverly combines fiction with documentary. Truth, in short, but, in the end, what is truth?"
"Gone…as usual." William murmurs to himself outside the auditorium. He calls Odd and his phone rings and he looks up at the stairs. "What are you doing?"
"Shh!" Odd shushes him. "Quiet or you'll give me away!"
"You got a film to direct you know."
"I know, and I'm already stressed out enough."
"You want stress? I'll kick your butt if you don't move it now!" He yells the last statement into Odd's phone, causing Odd to drop it. Odd peeks at him.
"Really?"
"You want to test that theory?"
Mr. Chardin clears his throat as he sees the principal tapping his watch. "Right," he adjusts his coat. "But why don't we all listen now to the filmmaker himself about his latest work? Odd, you have the floor."
Everyone waits patiently as William closes the door.
On the mountain sector, a tower activates…
The fuse box activates as a specter flies out. "Uh, hello," Odd greets the crowd. "First of all, I would like to-" A phone rings and he glances at his father, who holds up his phone. He leaves the room, Odd giving a small frown.
"We'll start the screening as soon as the director's father returns" Mr. Delmas stands up.
"Hello?" He answers the phone. "Is this some sort of joke?"
His phone flickers with electricity and gets possessed by Xana. He enters the room.
"Who was it darling?" Odd's mother asks him.
"Why don't you keep quiet and stop batting your eyes at that old goat?" He sounds normal, but his eyes are completely white. Mr. Delmas stands up.
"What? Let's not fly off the handle here" Mr. Delmas says.
"You're the fly that needs handling! I'm onto your game!"
"But…have you lost your mind darling?" Odd's mother asks him.
"I prefer losing my mind than having yours! Here, it's for you" he puts the phone to her ear and she gets possessed. Mr. Delmas gets a call and answers it.
"Yes, hello? What is it now?"
Everyone's phone rings, except Sissi and the Lyoko Warriors.
"Since when do you keep your, uh, cell phones on in a movie theater?" Jim questions, seeing them answer. "Huh? Hey, take the cells out of your ears and listen!" He then gets a phone call, laughing. "Mommy, is that you?" Jim is then possessed along with everyone else.
"If it's okay with everyone, we can begin" Odd speaks up.
"What does that little brat want?" His mother asks.
"Maybe he wants us to shut his trap for him!" His father responds.
"Wouldn't do him any harm."
"Something is going on, and I don't like it" Jeremy states, opening up his laptop. He sees the activated tower on the superscan. "Just what I was afraid of. An activated tower." He closes his laptop. "Looks like Xana is using cell phones. If you get a call, whatever you do, don't answer."
The four stand up, William motions at Odd. He smirks knowingly, stepping backwards.
"Look at that coward, slipping away like a little rat!" Odd's father sees him.
"Are we going to let that ungrateful snot nose take off like that?" Odd's mother calls out. Sissi looks up at them in confusion. Odd tries to make a break for it, but Jim stops him.
"Hey, it's not very polite to sneak off like a thief in the night, you know?" Jim asks the boy.
"He needs to learn a little respect whether he likes it or not!" Odd's father exclaims, the crowd agreeing. They stand up, walking up to Odd.
"There's no need to get all worked up. I'll give each of you an autograph" Odd tells them.
"He deserves to be taught a lesson, doesn't he?" His mother responds. Sissi blends in the crowd and opens her mouth in shock.
"I vote for…voting against him," Jim holds up a finger, looking to where Odd was. The boy has suddenly disappeared. "Oh man."
"Don't just stand there like a bunch of clowns! Go on, hurry, after him!"
Odd runs off to the park, sliding to a stop. Milly, Mrs. Hertz, and Tamiya are waiting for him. "Well, are we looking for a little spanking?" Mrs. Hertz asks him.
"There he is!" Milly exclaims.
"This time, he's not gonna get away!" Tamiya also exclaims, holding gardening tools. Odd then sees a mob of Xanafied people coming towards him.
"Keep up the pace! We'll get him this time!" Odd's mother exclaims.
"What's wrong with everyone?" Odd stares at them like they're crazy. He doesn't know that Xana is behind this. "Is it something they ate?" He continues to run, unable to use the passage in the park. The others however are in the sewers. They all race off to the factory.
Odd runs into the boiler room, only to be met with Mr. Fumet and Rosa. "Odd, my boy, how would you like a loving spoonful?" Rosa asks him.
"Thanks Rosa, but I'm not very hungry." Odd leaves and now has no way of reaching the factory.
The others arrive, as Jeremy sits in his chair. They await Odd's arrival. "What's he doing? Where is he?" Jeremy questions.
"Xana held him up. We should probably head to Lyoko now before they maul him to death" William says.
"I'll find him by scanning the location of his cell phone," Jeremy taps a button, locating Odd. "Okay, I found him."
"Where is he?" Yumi asks.
"Take a guess."
Odd is hiding in the cafeteria underneath a table, panting heavily. He removes a lid and finds food. "Mm, meatballs…come to think of it, I am hungry."
"Looks pretty bad for him," Jeremy pushes up his glasses. "He's totally surrounded."
"Either we save him or go to Lyoko" William speaks up.
"But how? The whole school is out to get him!" His sister points out.
"We've got to go with option 2 and deactivate the tower. It'd be faster that way" Yumi explains to them.
"Go on then, head for the scanner room. You're going in right now. Let's hope Odd can play for time" Jeremy hopes.
Odd is currently eating. "Mm, gravy. There isn't enough gravy…"
The three descend into the scanner room. Aelita, William, and Yumi all enter. "Scanner Aelita. Scanner Yumi. Scanner William. Virtualization." Jeremy successfully virtualizes them to the mountain sector. They land one by one.
"The tower in front of you, at the end of the path" Jeremy informs them. The three take off as the tower is on a giant mountain. They come to a stop.
"Jeremy, I think your coordinates are a little off. We should be on top of the mountain" William comments.
"Sorry, but there's a bug. I couldn't do any better." Jeremy groans as he finds another problem. "Ugh, and I can't even bring up your vehicles. Xana threw a virus into the program. All I can get is the Overwing."
"Send it. My sister and me have our own methods" William says.
"Coming up."
Yumi jumps on. "I hope you ladies don't mind if I smoke" William jokes as they both laugh.
Aelita activates her wings and takes flight. They head towards the tower. William arrives at the top. He sees 3 mantas come into view. They start to fire. Yumi blocks with her fan.
They fire at William, who dodges before he super smokes to one. He reforms on top of it and holds up his sword high. He stabs it an jumps off onto the summit as the manta blows up.
"Well done!" Aelita congratulates and William gives a thumbs up.
Yumi continues to defend but is shot off her vehicle. William dives off at high speed in his smoke form. He reforms below Yumi, stabs the rock and grabs Yumi.
"Just in time. Thanks William" Yumi thanks him.
"I would never let you fall" William replies.
Another laser is fired at them as they look at the mantas.
"Energy field!" Aelita fires in from behind, hitting one.
Nicolas and Herb burst into the cafeteria. "He's gotta be in here somewhere" Herb peeks in as Nicolas is waving around a dustpan.
"Don't worry, watch. I'm gonna sweep him away!" Nicolas exclaims.
"Yeah, he'll be biting a desk when we get through with him," Herb agrees as Odd swallows the food. "Hey Nicolas."
He peeks underneath a table. "Thought you could hide from us. Huh?"
"Lunchtime!" Odd announces, throwing multiple plates at him.
"You can't touch me. I'm invulnerable thanks to my shield," Nicolas dodges all the plates with the dustpan. "Go on, keep on trying." He waves a finger as Odd pushes the pot of gravy onto him, knocking him out.
"That is really awful. Wasting perfectly good food on a vegetable like him…"
"Aha, alone again at last" Herb is about to strike him when he's hit from behind. He falls down, and it's revealed to be Sissi who helped him out.
"Incredible, huh?"
"What's happening?" She asks, glancing around. "It looks like everyone at school has gone crazy…"
"It's because of cell phones. How come you haven't gone bananas too?"
"Cuz my phone's a broken-down piece of junk!"
"The one place we haven't checked from top to bottom is the lunchroom!" Jim announces from the outside.
"Let's split!"
Mrs. Hertz growls as she turns her head. "There he is!" They notice the two.
"What…what is my daughter doing with that little scoundrel?" Mr. Delmas points to Odd.
"He must've forced her to be on his side!" Odd's mother deduces, even though it's not true.
"Children become monsters when they're not instilled with a sense of discipline" Odd's father says next.
The two run off and the group of adult's chases after them.
"Jeremy, what are you waiting for? Reprogram the Overwing!" Yumi urges as she watches the manta approach.
"It's not working. I'll try the Overboard." However, that also doesn't work. "Ugh, I've got a problem."
"You're not the only one, hurry up!"
The manta fires again at them, and William narrowly misses it. Another one hits the rock right next to him. The manta attacks again and he swings Yumi a bit, so it doesn't hit them. It flies off as Yumi pulls a fan, and it comes back firing. Yumi deflects it with her fan as Aelita comes into view.
She prepares an energy field. She fires and hits the target, destroying it.
"Nice one Aelita" Yumi compliments her.
William's sword starts to come loose. "Uh oh." William's sword dislodges and they both fall and Aelita gasps. She uses her creativity to create a platform for them to land on.
"Yes!" Aelita cheers at this.
"Yoohoo!" Ulrich says as Aelita looks up to see him leap off and punch her. "Don't forget about me!"
"It's Ulrich!" Yumi exclaims.
Aelita screams as her wings deactivate and she falls towards the digital sea. William grabs her as she falls close to them.
"I've got you!" William tells her.
In the park, Sissi and Odd are running towards the shed. They enter quickly, and Odd sighs in relief. "Well, here at least we might have a little peace!" Odd states.
"Peace, huh?" The gardener comes out of the shadows. "A shred of pieces is what you'll get!"
Sissi cringes at him as he charges forward with a rake. She opens the door and they run off screaming.
Aelita is pulled up the side. "Thanks bro" she thanks him.
They see Ulrich down below who uses his super sprint to bounce off the lower platform to the summit. He lands on top of a krab who has just arrived.
"Jeremy, we need Odd's board if we're gonna reach the top" William says.
"It's loading, but it'll take a little time" he tells them.
"We could try to climb up" Yumi suggests.
"With what? Our claws? Besides, we still have Ulrich to deal with."
"And that's not all, look!"
Ulrich and two krabs emerge near the edge. "Fire!" The krabs fire and they all hide.
Sissi and Odd come to a stop as they're suddenly faced by everyone, and they look ready to fight. They back away, only to be stopped by the gardener.
"You just can't get good gardeners nowadays…" Odd comments as they're pushed forward.
"I don't think it is a very good idea to frighten these poor children with your gardening tool sir" Odd's mother shakes her head.
"Well, that's a pity" he replies back.
"Rest assured, we're not the type of parents who would have ever assured their responsibility. We promised a fitting punishment, and you're going to get it!"
"I promise never to complain about having conflicts with my parents again" Odd murmurs at this.
The krabs are still firing as Aelita takes flight. "Looks like Xana is serving us seafood tonight" William comments.
"Yeah, with open claws and Ulrich is our waiter" Yumi replies.
"Okay, I'm on it" Aelita says as she flies to the top. She fires at one and misses. The krab fires back and Aelita dodges.
"I'm gonna try something" Yumi pulls out her fan. She runs and backflips off the rock.
"Wait, Yumi!" William shouts as she throws her fan, and jumps off, landing on the path. She looks up as the fan slices off the leg, causing the krab to fall. She catches her weapon as the krab fires, hitting her in the arm. Then it falls down to the digital sea below the fog.
"Yumi, you just lost 40 life points, you hear me?" Jeremy asks her as she holds her arm.
"Yeah, and I can feel it too. I'll try my best not to take another hit." Suddenly a kankerlot appears and devirtualizes her. She slightly hits her head against the scanner once the doors open. "Oh, what an idiot I am!"
The kankerlot reaches a point to see William and fires at him. He backs up and is attacked from the krab. He is able to absorb the kankerlots fire as his siter flies in front of him. Aelita creates an energy field as she enters the krab's view.
"Energy field!" She fires and misses again. She dodges the lasers. "I don't believe this!"
"Jeremy, we're stuck here…" William comments.
"I'm almost there." Jeremy finally pulls up the Overboard successfully. "Yeah! William, Overboard in two or three seconds."
"Finally," William replies while avoiding lasers. The Overboard appears and he gets to it. "Maybe we can reach Ulrich." He gets on, struggling a little bit at first, but manages to balance. "How Odd manages to do this, I'll never know."
"For starters, he's not afraid of falling" his sister comments to him.
"I'm afraid!" Odd exclaims as he and Sissi are standing at the edge of the roof, facing the truck. "Oh no, anything but this."
"Trust us kid, it's for your own good" Odd's father states behind them.
"Just a little step forward, and you won't be afraid anymore!" His mother adds in.
"You'll pay for what's in your life!" Jim exclaims at the two.
"Hey, don't we get a last request?" Odd asks.
"It's true, they do have the right to that" Mr. Delmas replies.
"I'd like one last club sandwich with organic mayo" Odd tells them, confusing Sissi.
"Okay, one club sandwich, but forget the organic mayo" Rosa tells him.
"And I would like a purple parachute to go with my top" Sissi requests, Odd's father stopping it.
"Okay, okay, time out. Last request are gonna have to wait till later!"
Aelita tries to make a break for the tower but the last krab shoots her down. Ulrich stands on top of the krab as it heads over to her. He jumps down and Aelita fires an energy field. Ulrich easily slices it and then kicks Aelita sending her flying. Ulrich walks over to her and picks her up by the neck. Aelita grunts and groans, struggling to escape.
"Still weak I see. That's okay, your father will still come. And my master will have a new pet" Ulrich says.
"Not while I'm around!" William exclaims as he comes in on the Overboard. He fires a sword slash just as the krab fires. The krab destroys the Overboard while William destroys the krab. He then stares down Ulrich. Ulrich tosses Aelita and draws his sabers. The two stare off. William's sword glows a bright white, while Ulrich's sabers glow a bright red.
"Super sprint!" Ulrich declares.
"Super smoke!"
William and Ulrich both charge at each other, ready to strike.
"Your finished William!"
William reforms inches from Ulrich. "We'll see about that Stern!"
The two both stab and devirtualize each other, ending it in a draw.
"Hurry Aelita! The coast is clear!" Jeremy tells her as she wakes up. She gets up and runs for the tower. She enters and runs for the middle…
"I think these children could use a little parental guidance!" Odd's mother grins wickedly.
"Absolutely!" Mr. Delmas agrees with her as they step forward. Sissi covers her eyes.
Aelita does a flip, reaching the top. She lands safely and steps forward, the interface appearing in front of her. She signs in.

"Alright, let's get this over with!" Odd's father announces as the two parents get ready to push the two.
Lyoko
They all turn back to normal. "What are we doing up here?" Odd's father asks in confusion.
"Tower deactivated" Aelita declares as the screens fall.
Odd's mother and Mr. Delmas go to their child.
"You know better than get so close to the edge, don't you?" Odd's mother asks him.
"Oh yeah? I wonder who could have pushed me to the edge" Odd grins, to her confusion.
"Uh, return to the past now!" Jeremy taps the button.
Time is reset to the screening. "And here, we have a splendid specimen of a dung beetle" Odd announces as Jim is pushing a soccer ball, the audience laughing. Jim even laughs too. "And now, we have a magnificent field grasshopper."
It's Mr. Delmas playing with his ball in a cup, getting stuck in it. The man gives a look of embarrassment.
Then it shows someone wrapped in a blanket. "Oh, he's saved the worst for last!" Sissi mutters, prepared for the embarrassment.
"But what could this strange creature be? A spring roll? No, no! It's an enormous larva!" Everyone is laughing except Sissi. Sissi gets out of bed, stretching. "A caterpillar! Metamorphosing into a lovely butterfly!"
Sissi looks confused as Odd winks, and then she cringes.
William and Aelita are walking back to the dorm together. "Well, I've seen almost everyone's parents, except Ulrich's" William says.
"They'll come eventually" Aelita responds.
"Hopefully later than sooner."
"All we can hope for is that we free him before they come looking for him."
"Better work fast. Because if the clone interacts with them, it could be big trouble."
"We still need more data. And it could be anywhere on the network."
"You got an idea for dad?"
"Maybe, but let's focus on Ulrich for now."
They continue walking back to their rooms.
