Chapter 2: Answers.
Timeskip / Rose POV:
There have only been a few times I have ever been… scared around the Doctor. After he interrogated the scientists, he sent me back with this girl to his Tardis. I unlocked the Tardis with my key, met with a familiar humming and grinding of the deck. The girl in my arms seems so young, bruises are starting to form where the tubes had been in her arms.
I cover her tightly up in the Doctors trench coat a little more and go to one of the Tardis's corridors, the Tardis presented a room to me. It's not often the Tardis actually 'communicates' with me, or at least it tries. The rooms change to whatever the purpose is needed, I recognised this door as being in between the Doctors always locked bedroom and the costume closet. It is not yet decorated but has a bed, a nightstand, and a lamp. A bit rubbish as far as bedrooms go. I place her down in the bed and feel her feverish head.
I slowly unwrap the trench coat from around her and try to tuck her into the bed. I notice a chair beside the bed has materialised. I sit down in it looking at her confused. I wonder what is taking the Doctor so long.
Doctor pov:
My head hurts, I didn't mean to go this far… I'm glad I sent Rose away. I think solemnly, as I walk away from the burning factory the smells of fumes from the fire are a bit sickly.
The scientists had escaped but I made sure their research would not survive.
The Tardis is still waiting by the street next to the factory, good. Unlocking the door, I am met with the Tardis humming, greeting me. Yet there is something different about it.
"Rose?" I semi shout into the Tardis.
She comes out sheepishly from the corridor coming up the stairs from the control deck.
"Doctor… are you okay? What happened" She said holding onto my arms looking me into the eye I bat her off and try to make a joke, but she just gives me a look.
"Where is she?" Rose then leads me into a new room which is located near my barely used room.
She leads me into a slightly furnished but a blank room, a sleeping bundle wrapped up in the bed in the corner of the room.
"I'm erm gonna need some space for a while to check up on here," I say looking at Rose as we leave the room I close the door and Rose looks a little put out.
"Oh right yeah need to go see mum anyway I guess, plans and all that," She says a little dejectedly.
The truth is I just needed some space to deal with this time tot situation and today's events, I don't mean to leave her out… I will explain to her once I actually know the answers fully myself.
"I will stay parked outside your house though, I won't be too far, you can come back later" I quickly add noticing the disappointment clouding her face.
She just smiles and nods, "Alright."
? POV:
I feel groggy again, unsure completely as to what happened to me. I can feel my limbs, weighted, strange. I wiggle my toes and my hands opening my eyes to see the world in so much clarity. I look at my arms, no tubes, free. Why was I in there anyway? Was I asleep I think?
'It's okay little one' A voice says in my head which startles me. 'who are you' I ask.
I feel a bit extranational, like what are words, why can I speak why do I know what things are, my head is reeling.
I notice I am in a room, and the door opens to reveal a man. A suited man, with messy brown hair. That is when I felt a shock wave in my head again, am I bonding to him. What is bonding?
Doctor pov:
She has so many words swimming in her head, so many emotions she is projecting onto me.
"Are you okay?" I ask her out loud instead of telepathically as I notice it's causing a little bit of strain, I project some relaxation onto her and it seemed to calm her down a little bit.
"Where am I? who are you? My head hurts" she says quickly pulling her knees to her chest and cuddling them.
"We are on Earth well technically we are parked on earth; we are on the Tardis," I say to her noticing some recognition of the word Tardis flutter in her eyes.
"Tardis," she says tasing the words on her lips 'I don't think I'm old enough yet to be on a Tardis' I hear her think.
"What do you mean by that?" I ask sitting on the end of the bed looking at her.
'Can he read my mind?' I startled her.
"Who are you?" I ask, I pause and reword it "do you know who you are?"
I see her accidentally projecting abstract memories, images, not quite in order. Hazy and blurred.
"I think, I am a student of… a …an academy?" She says clutching her head.
I wonder her age, I guess her Gallifreyan age between 15-25 which makes her extremely young, in human ages she would be maybe 12 but I wouldn't know for sure until she confirms it, but she did mention the academy so she is definitely over 8 at least.
"It's okay don't strain yourself, just rest," I say carefully placing one hand on her warm forehead sending her to sleep.
Rose POV:
It had been a few hours since the Doctor sent me away, I stare at the cold cup of tea in front of me as my mum natters on. I haven't yet told her about the child we found, why did the Doctor take her what does it mean. Is she like him? I'm confused. I decided I couldn't stay here much longer, so seeking answers I said goodbye to mum and slipped back inside the Tardis. There I see the Doctor just staring into the control console seemingly lost in thought.
"Doctor?"
Doctor POV:
"Oh Rose," I say turning to her worried face with a smile.
She asks me if I'm going to explain who or what the child is.
"Truthfully I don't know much about how she was there or how she survived." I started "However there is no doubt that the girl is a time tot."
"A time wot?" She asks
"A time tot, a Gallifreyan, a little time lady, another me," I say a little too excitedly.
"But she will only be known as a Time Lord or Lady when she's older, roughly 200 when she's mature, I'd say she's maybe 20 ish human years, but for us that would be a young child or early early early teens," I say trying to bring some clarity on the subject.
"She's so small for 20!" Rose adds
"Well we do age differently to humans"
"what about the headaches" Rose asked
"Well you see, it was the bond starting to form. Parents usually have them with their time tots."
"Parents?" Rose injects
"If this bond is broken, their little minds would seek out another time lord or lady, the ones closest to them, usually family or someone with a close relationship. It could be a cousin or even a grandpa" I continue messing around with something on the control panel.
"It depends usually on levels of trust, at least usually in normal circumstances, in our society its usually classed as an immediate adoption of the child, the time tot. But there's much more to it"
I say just fidgeting really with the Tardis.
"Like what?"
"I guess because I am the only Time Lord left, and the only one closest to her at the time… she just subconsciously connected with me." I finish, looking up at Rose who has a look of bewilderment on her face.
"So you're like what now, a dad?" She laughs snorting
"Yeah," I say looking at her grinning.
"Not the best father figure I'd imagine" She snorts playfully.
"Oi" I laugh at her, she knows exactly when to alleviate tension.
"But seriously though, parenting a time tot is very different to you humans. We share thoughts, project feelings and talk telepathically." I add trying to explain more in-depth.
"Time tots are quite… sensitive, especially those that can see things if they can of course."
"See things?"
"Like timelines/visions/voices and such" I elaborate maybe I'm going a bit out of Roses depth with this.
"Basically we communicate and feel different than normal parents, children on earth. I can regulate her emotions, and help her. The bond is to help strengthen her mind which is important for Timelords."
? POV:
Yawning I stretch my arms, I feel warm and cosy. I still ache though. Looking around the room, it's not much just a small bedroom with no window. I try and get up to the door, I hear muffled voices.
'Don't be shy' The voice says in my head, the man from before?
I open the door and there's a small corridor. 'Which way' I think
'Left and up the small stairs there' The same voice answers.
The stairs spiral up, I see flashing lights, noises and humming, something so familiar about it all. But where from?
I see a woman with blonde hair and a tall slender man with a suit on, the one that pulled me out of the… what was it called I think.
Doctor POV:
She shyly pears from the top step of the stairs, holding onto the bannister looking at us. Her hair overgrown and almost feral from being in the liquid chamber for too long. Her hair like firey tendrils sticking out in different directions and piercing green doe eyes.
"What's your name," I ask her as she steps forward timidly.
"Child" She responds confused.
"What sort of parents don't name their child" Rose starts.
I guess she either doesn't remember her Gallifreyan name or doesn't want to share it.
I remember the tank she was stored in had nova engraved on them.
"How about Nova?" I ask and she just smiles and nods.
