Chapter four:

I will be working on this story quite a bit and estimate it may be over 100k words by the time it's done, I'm thinking or maybe even expanding it beyond the 10th doctor, but we will see.

Doctor POV:

"You are sure your mum won't mind?" I ask Rose as I hold Nova's hand, and we enter her house.
"I mean she will but yeah," Rose said snickering.

"Rose! Hiya!" Jackie says hugging Rose almost raising her off the ground, "Oh! And Doctor!" She says getting ready to hug me until her eyes fall onto the girl beside me and I get a smack in the arm.
"OI wot have you done now, kidnapping kids!? Wait is she Alien? Wait rose… is it yours from the future...? wait why is she ginger then?!" She panics flapping her arms.

'She sort of reminds me of a headless chicken' I can hear Nova think It caught me by surprise I forgot I could hear her telepathically I laughed out loud causing them all to look at me.
'In a nice way,' She adds looking at me.

Rose steps in "Calm down it's not my kid. It is the Doctors... it's complicated. Can we have some food?" She says patting her mum on the back.

'She's loud'
'Yes, she is I say back to Nova she grins up to me.

"Well come in then don't just stand there, I can cook us all a breakfast and maybe rummage through the back bedroom and see if I have any of roses old clothes left," Jackie says ushering us all into the kitchen.

We sit down by the round table in Jackie's kitchen It smells like yesterday's dinner, she offers us cups of tea and starts cooking us a little fry up, she finally plates up a small portion for Nova and she scoops it up in big mouthfuls. It's like she hasn't eaten in a while I guess she hasn't… How could I have forgotten; I'll make sure to ask Jackie for some spare food for onboard the Tardis. I can't exactly be feeding her food from Rose's snack stash.

"What av' you done? Starved her?" Jackie said to me, So I had to explain what and who she is and why I'm looking after her. Which left Jackie a little speechless, but she appreciated that I took her from those scientists. Though she does seem to worry about a child being on the adventures she hears me, and Rose go on.

"She needs a good scrubbing, and a hairbrush" Jackie finally says pulling on Nova's cheek slightly, and Nova furrows her brow disapprovingly 'I'm not a baby' I hear her think pouting. "I know I'll go run you a nice hot bubble bath yeah?" Nova nods
'Manners' I say to her
"yes, please. Thank you"

Jackie runs upstairs and starts a bath, and adds some bubbles in. She comes down and shows Nova the way to the bathroom. I told Nova to ask me if she needs any help.

Now as Nova is in the bath, we three started chatting at the table, I feel a little uncomfortable honestly.

"You see child of time, they're trusting to other time lords, they don't have a reason not to trust us, from birth they are taught they can approach any of us for help." I explain to Jackie "Though I can tell her life here living as a human for 10 years has caused a bit of an issue a clash between her natural instincts and her adapted human ones" I say stirring the tea Jackie gives me, I put it on the table and she tuts, getting a coaster and putting it underneath.

"It's like she has built a defence mechanism, so she sometimes believes herself to be human, she's built walls to survive as a 19-year-old here on earth, but now she's bonded to me… she will regress and become a time tot once again she's only a child" I finish, they look at me nodding but clearly still a little confused.

I gathered that there is only so much I can explain to them both after all they're only human, and timelord relationships are so vast and complicated to explain but they seem to understand enough to know how to treat her properly.

"Let's just say she's very smart, but very dependant in many ways but also able to do things herself yeah?" I conclude getting a little irritable repeating myself so much.

'I can't brush my hair, it's stuck' I feel Nova's annoyance and I ask Rose for some help who chuckles and heads upstairs to go help Nova tame her hair into something a little less unkempt.
about half an hour later they come back downstairs, and she's dried and happy wearing one of Rose's childhood outfits apparently. A cute little dungaree set, and a purple shirt as well as a black pair of doc martin boots.

"Don't you clean up nice!" Jackie says with a clap, "You look less like you've been dragged through a bush now" She jokes

"You better be a good dad to this girl" Jackie chides to me partially jesting.
"I know what I'm doing I've been a father before," I say I hear her say 'wot' in the background and I notice Rose giving me an odd glance. But I gloss over it and kneel in front of Nova. I'd say height wise she's maybe up to my waist or belly, she's quite short almost stunted for a 19-year-old time lord, definitely malnourished and undergrown.

"You, okay?" I ask her to look at her hair, Rose has braided it into two little pigtails it's actually quite cute, but one piece at the front has come loose already dangling in front of one of her eyes, I go to move it and she flinches. Oh.

She smiles at me "I'm great thank you" I can feel her project happiness, but I can still feel underlying sadness there.

We thank Jackie for the help, and she gives us a little Tesco's bag full of food, I think to myself that I will need to ask the Tardis if she can make a sort of kitchen and more living spaces in there.

"How are you gonna cook that food, do you even have a kitchen?" Jackie asked.

"The Tardis can change, technically speaking we can fit mini-cities inside Tardis's or things that are needed"

"Oh right, that explains the bedroom," Rose said.

TIME SKIP

It's taken a little while. But I've managed with the Tardis's help to make a suitable little living space in the back of the Tardis. Usually, it's not common, in fact, it's frowned upon to take a child in the Tardis but there isn't much choice here.

We added a kitchen and a living room which has a sofa and a TV inside.
Nova seems pleased to be living with us, but I can feel her mind suppressing memories to help her cope. I think that's best for now until she gets better control of her emotions and grows her abilities a little more.

"Doctor" I hear Nova call from the newly added living room, I walk in there and she is sat beside Rose on the brown leather sofa.

"Yeah?" I ask her plopping myself down beside them, a weird feeling stirring in my chest. I look at them both, child… and Rose. It feels nice, a little less lonely and like a family again.
I think of my past children but quickly shoo the memory away there's no need for that now.

"Do you think you can ask her to add a window like in my room?" Nova asks tilting her head a little to the side.

"Window?" I didn't realise the Tardis had put an artificial window in her room.

"Erm sure yeah whatever you want," I say, noticing a window appear on the right on side of the room, it stopped his heart almost for a second. quickly pushing away the thoughts looking at the fake Gallifrey outside and I look to Rose and nodding at her asking ' are you okay without words and she just smiles in response.

This all just feels weird, Like it feels nice… But so weird…

"We can go out soon once you have rested up and feel a little better" I say to her, her eyes light up. Rose no doubt has been telling her of some of our adventures.

"Yes but you'll need to stay beside me and listen"

"I'll try" She smirks making me give her a look.

I can tell she might be a little more of a handful than she let on.
