Chapter Five:

It has been almost a week since the Doctor found Nova. They've adjusted quite well living inside the Tardis together with Rose travelling with them. So far they haven't really left the earth but the Doctor is getting antsy about it, but he wants to make sure the little time tot will be well enough to travel.
She arrived quite malnourished so the Doctor has had to keep her fed and rested to allow her body to recover, they've slowly started developing a bond and trust, but Nova keeps reflecting on her human life here.

They sort of built a nice routine together, wake up breakfast, maybe go outside for a walk and visit auntie Jackie… and then studying all day until tea time. It was nice it was distracting for the both of them.

Until the Doctor finally felt comfortable taking her out for a 'spin' with the Tardis and Rose. He felt as though she had begun to open up to him more, and her natural trusting time tot instincts and kicking in, overriding her adapted ones she got from living amongst humans.
There were times she acted like a moody teenager or a young infant, and her age had started to regress, as she visibly looks younger now than the day, they saved her.

He smiles, watching her study sprawled out in front of a rug Jackie brought onto the Tardis for their living room. She was currently studying advanced physics, after making her way through all the time lord basics over the week, he was so proud of her.
"Right you carry on studying hard here, by the time you've finished that chapter, we will be somewhere absolutely brand new," he says watching her mood lighten up. "Of course, it's still earth but not how you've seen it, just in the past or future but still new, exciting!" He says to her dancing about.
"Just make sure you bring a coat," he says leaving the living room.

Nova hears his footsteps retreat into the console room where she can hear a little commotion between him and Rose talking about concerts and music. She giggles focusing on her book as she feels the Tardis rumble and move, it's almost comforting she thought to herself, the lulling hums of the Tardis.

She had just finished her chapter as she felt the Tardis starting to move faster as he warms her up, she put a bookmark in the ridiculously large textbook she was given, she pulls on her little raincoat that they had bought over the week after Jackie and Rose convinced the Doctor that she would need to buy clothes. Nova makes her way excitedly to the control deck room, she just catches the Doctor mid-dance, dancing to some music he put on. He was talking about places they can go "Battle of Trafalgar, the first anti-gravity Olympics, Caesar crossing the Rubicon or Ian Dury at TOP RANK, SHEFFIELD, England, Earth 21st November 1979, what do you think?" He says dancing about me and Rose.

"Hold on tight, are you ready?" He says watching Nova's reaction to the Tardis actually moving and rumbling beneath her feet, he feels her joy her excitement and it makes him even more excited.

They start to make their way out of the Tardis as the Doctor elaborates "1979, one hell of a year" He says with enthusiasm "China, invades Vietnam. The Muppet Movie. Love that Film, have you seen that film? No? we'll watch it. Oh yeah, Margaret Thatcher, URGH, skylab falls to earth. Of course with a little help from me" Which caused nova to raise her eyebrows at him "Nearly took off my thumb" He says showing her, as they step across the threshold of the Tardis "And I like my thumb, I need my thumb I'm very attached to…"

The Doctor was cut short in his sentence as there were rifles cocked in their direction "…My thumb" He finishes. Nova hides behind the Doctor grabbing onto his long trench coat, as they started to get surrounded by Redcoats with glum faces adorning them. There is an officer on a black horse whom they assumed to be in charge as he stepped forward to them.
"eh 1879… close enough," The Doctor says shrugging as the two girls raise their eyebrows at him.
'Really' Nova thought to the Doctor
'The Tardis has a mind of her own, makes it more fun this way' He thought back to her sending some calm into her panicked little mind looking at the redcoats.

"Are we In Scotland?" The Doctor asks putting on a broguish Scottish accent pushing Nova behind him a little more shielding her, feeling abit peeved at a gun being pointed at his daughter.

The Red coat reaffirms the position of his gun pointing at the Doctor "How can you be so ignorant of that?" He asks suspiciously eyeing the trio up.

"Oh, I'm I'm dazed yeah and confused… I've been chasing this wee naked barn over hill and dale with my daughter Nova, Isn't that right ya little timorous beastie," The Doctor says pointing a look at Rose. The Doctor felt a strange emotion wipe over Nova at the word daughter causing him to feel a bit more irritated.

"OCH AYE! I've BeEN out AnD ABoOt," Rose says imitating poorly a drunk Scottish accent.
"No, No. Don't do that," The Doctor says lowly to her breaking his accent sternly.

"HOOTS MON" Rose says loudly. "No, Really don't, really"
Nova stifles a little laugh at the Doctor scolding Rose.

"And how do you identify yourself, sir?" Reynold asks still firm in his grip pointing a gun at the unphased Doctor.

"Ah, Doctor James McCrimmon, er From the Township of Balamory. I have my credentials, If I may" he says signalling to the officer his pockets as he slowly raises his hands down and gets out his psychic paper.

"As you can see, a Doctorate from the University of Edinburgh, I trained under the Doctor Bell himself." The Doctor says flashing his paper at the officer who seemed to give a hull in approval which caused all the guards to lower their guns pointing at the trio.

"Let them approach" A ladies voice commands from a black carriage nearby.
"I don't think that's wise ma'am" the officer responds but the woman swatted that idea away are said "Let them approach"

The officer Reynolds turned to them and said "You will approach this carriage and show all due deference" He said sternly eyeing up the Doctor once more.

"Might I introduce her Majesty Queen Victoria, Empress of India and Defender of the Faith." Reynolds declared proudly as the queen looked at them from the window of her carriage.

Nova gave a short curtsy, "I'm Novette McCrimmon, Your majesty" She says in a near-perfect Scottish accent, slightly changing her name to be more fitting with the time. The Doctor shot her a proud approving look.

"Rose Tyler, eh Ma'am… and my apologies for being so naked, we had an issue with erm luggage," Rose said clumsily bowing to the Queen.

"I've had five daughters, it's nothing to me. But you, Doctor. Show me these… credentials" The Queen said looking them all over.

The Doctor bows gracefully before handing her the paper, she looks it over once and passes it to him back "Why didn't you say so immediately? It clearly states here that you have been appointed by the Lord Provost as my protector" She says her attitude changing to that of a softer tone.

"Er does it? Yes, it does. Good. Good. Then let me ask- Why is it that your majesty is travelling by road when there's a train all the way to Aberdeen?" The Doctor asks moving the shy child from behind him to in front of him keeping one hand on top of her shoulder.

"A tree on the line… An accident?" He continues, searching her eyes for any type of answer.
'Probably not she is the bloody Queen after all' Nova thinks causing the Doctor to reprimand her telepathically.

"An assassination attempt?" Rose asks looking in disbelief, "What there are people out there to kill you?" She asks confused.

"I am the Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, everything around me tends to be planned, But I am quite used to staring down the barrel of a gun now…" She says to them all.

"Ah but you see sir Robert MacLeish lives but only ten miles hence, so we've sent word ahead. He will shelter us for tonight, then we can reach Balmoral tomorrow…" She explains looking at them once more "This Doctor and his daughter and naked timorous beastie will come with her.

'It feels so weird to be called the Doctors daughter' The Doctor heard Nova think.

"Yes, Ma'am, we'd better get moving…. It is almost nightfall" The officer, Reynold replies moving his horse away from them leading them to one of the luggage carriages where they may board.

"Indeed, and there are stories of dangerous wolves in these parts. Fanciful tales, of course, intended to scare the children. But good for the blood, I think, drive on" The queen states sending a small shiver down Nova's spine at the thought of scary wolves.

A strange flash appeared before Nova's eyes, a vision, unclear and abstract but she sees the officer on the dark horse die from a giant beast… it gave her a bit of a headache.

"Are you okay?" The Doctor verbally asks Nova as they sit inside the carriage.

"I'm okay" She responds sitting herself next to Rose facing the Doctor, he just looked at her with the look… and hummed in response.

After a little while of awkward silence, Rose starts to talk. "It's sorta funny though, because you say assignation yeah. And you think of like Kennedy and stuff... Not her"

"1879? She's had, oh, six attempts on her life this year alone. And I'll tell you something else. We just met Queen Victoria!" The Doctor said sharing a smile with them both

"I know!"

"What a laugh!"

"She was just sitting there," Rose says imitating her putting both hands on together on her crossed legs "Like a stamp"
"I want her to say 'we are not amused'. I bet you five quid I can make her say it" Rose says with a mischievous glint in her eyes.

"Well, If I gambled on that, It'd be an abuse of my privileges pf a traveller in time," The doctor says laughing

"Ten quid?" Rose asks and the doctor just laughs and nods at her.
