"Would you please go out with me?!"
The atmosphere became eerily quiet as both girls waited for the other to react.
On one side was Molly McGee, a newcomer in the town of Brighton.
On the other was Andrea Davenport, the most popular girl in said town.
The wind blowing was the only thing breaking the silence between the two girls, until Andrea finally asked:
"Why."
Molly faced Andrea. "Huh?"
"Why are you asking me to go out with you?" Andrea raised an eyebrow. "In fact, why ask me specifically?"
Molly winced. "Oh, well, I figured if we hung out for a bit, then maybe… we could learn about each other, and hopefully… become friends?"
"Wait, so, when you mean to go out… you mean you wanna hang out?"
Molly nodded.
And not even a second later, Andrea burst out laughing.
"And here I was thinking you were asking me out on a date!"
As the popular girl kept laughing, Molly frowned and asked:
"Would that be a problem?"
Andrea paused, and seeing the ever-optimistic Molly worried, she shook her head and clarified:
"No, it wouldn't… at least, the problem wouldn't be you, Molly?"
"And what would be the problem?"
"The first time we met… wasn't the best, and the horror movie thing didn't work out either," Andrea sighed. "And if we were to go out when we have only bad times under our belts, well… that would send a very wrong message."
Molly hummed. "I see…"
Andrea smiled and patted Molly's shoulder. "But, I'll give credit where credit's due, you're pretty brave."
"Really?"
"You think people ask me to go out frequently?" Andrea chuckled and waved her hand. "I'm lucky if people even look my way. For you to go straight to asking me out, that takes some serious guts!"
Molly blushed and looked elsewhere. "Ah, geez, Andrea…"
Andrea cringed, but quickly took out her phone and changed the subject.
"I won't hang out with you, but we can take a picture together as a consolation prize if you want."
Molly giggled. "What a weird consolation prize."
"Is that so?" Andrea slowly pocketed her phone. "Guess I'll that as a no-"
"I'll take it! I'll take it!"
Andrea wrapped her arm around Molly's shoulder, and the girls both smiled at the camera as Andrea prepared to take the picture.
Just before she did, however…
*SMOOCH!*
*CLICK!*
Molly and Andrea separated shortly afterwards, and Molly's phone soon got a notification of her receiving the photo. Not that she noticed, as she dumbfoundedly rubbed her kissed cheek.
"That picture's for your eyes only," Andrea narrowed her eyes. "Show that to anybody and I'll socially destroy you."
And with that done, Andrea walked away, leaving Molly to slowly gain a smile and jump in joy.
