A/N I got another chapter done, but, due to external circumstances, I didn't get a second one done. But, I hope to get two done this coming week. As for this chapter, besides being the shortest since chapter 44(but still 2700 words), it's mostly all about the move, some announcements for something happening next chapter, and a bit of growth for Sheldon. Enjoy.
Chapter 66
Friday 8 May, 8:45 AM
Leonard was sitting at the island, drinking coffee, when Penny walked out to the kitchen. She poured her own cup of coffee and joined Leonard at the island. They said good morning to each other and as they sipped their coffee, Leonard said, "Do you think they'll be on time, or will he get confused by the address again?"
Penny chuckled, but said, "They'll be here. We have everything boxed up, so we should have them move the furniture first. Each trip we can move furniture from here to the house and then bring back Amy and Sheldon's stuff, that they want from storage."
"We have the key to their apartment, do you have the key to the storage place?" asked Leonard.
"Yeah, Amy gave one to me on Wednesday," said Penny. "She and Sheldon went there, last night, and put sticky notes on the stuff they wanted brought back."
"Why didn't they just bring the stuff? Stupid thought, Sheldon moving anything," said Leonard.
Penny chuckled, "Any of you four moving something. Remember when Howard broke his mother's leg moving that stationary bike and hurt himself trying to take the crib out of the van?"
Leonard chuckled, "Hey, Sheldon and I got your wall unit into your apartment and the four of us did get that time machine up here."
"Leonard, that was almost fifteen years ago," said Penny. "And, you said you struggled then. I can't imagine seeing you guys doing that now when the four of you are all over 35 and a couple of you are over 40."
"I'm sure we could," said Leonard, sounding hurt.
"It doesn't matter sweety, I love you anyway," said Penny. "And, besides, we have someone to do it for you." Just as she leaned over and kissed him, there was a knock on the door.
Leonard walked over and opened it, to see Zack, Marissa, and Robert there. They all came in and Penny offered them coffee, while Leonard started explaining what they were planning to do today. At 9:30, after their coffee, they started.
For the first load, they took Penny's bedroom furniture apart, moved it from 4B, and loaded it into the truck. There was still room for a couple of things in their bedroom, so the two nightstands also went into the bed of the truck. Penny rode in the backseat of the truck, with Marissa, as she didn't want them to get lost.
Leonard led them to the house and upon getting there, Zack and Robert unloaded the things, putting Penny's bedroom furniture in the downstairs spare bedroom, and put the nightstands in the upstairs back bedroom. Once that was done, they drove to where Amy and Sheldon had their things in storage.
Most of it was the stuff Sheldon had collected over the years, but he had cleared out some things, so Amy could fit her household goods in there when they moved into 4B. Amy wanted her bed, as it was bigger than Sheldon's, but they took both Sheldon and her nightstands and dressers, back to 4A. She also got some of her living room furniture, as Sheldon didn't want Penny's furniture any longer.
For the rest of the day, stuff would get moved from one of the two apartments to the house, then, on the return trip, things in Amy and Sheldon's storage room would be moved to 4A. Each trip took about two hours and there was a break for lunch, Leonard and Penny treating everyone.
As most of the living room was staying in apartment 4A, it was pretty much finished by Friday night. Although, there were some things that would be moved from 4B to 4A tomorrow. There were also still some things that needed to be moved to the house, but those things were in 4B and that would be done over the weekend along with all the boxes that had been packed.
Amy and Sheldon moved some of their things from 4B to 4A, while Zack and his brother moved Penny and Leonard's boxes over to 4B before they left. Leonard and Penny checked on some things, then said goodbye to Sheldon and Amy, telling them they would be over at 8:30 in the morning.
They walked over to 4B, to get an idea of what was left to go to the house and what would go to storage. As they were leaving, Leonard became concerned as he could hear Penny crying. He led her to the couch to sit, got her a glass of water, then sat next to her.
"What's a matter sweety?" asked Leonard.
"It's just…it's just…so much happened here," said Penny. "It was the first place I had that was all my own. You asked me out the first time here, and the time when we got back together…our first serious kiss was here…we had sex for the first time here…we got engaged here…just a lot of things happened here, and now it won't be here anymore."
Leonard wrapped his arms around Penny and said, "I know, I'm going to miss being here, and across the hall myself. But, it's going to be all right, Penny. We are going to have another place to make memories. Our first home, the twins growing up. We'll never forget this place, but we'll have good memories in our home."
Penny looked at Leonard and smiled, "Thank you, sweety, that helps, and you're right." She stood, "Come on, let's go to our new home. We can start making memories, by breaking in the new bed."
Leonard smiled, stood, and the two of them left.
Saturday 9 May, 8:30 AM
While she had found the lovemaking, for the first time in their house, relaxing, she had trouble getting to sleep afterward. And, when she did fall asleep, she was having some weird dreams. Not the sex dreams as she had before, but just strange places, strange shapes, and strange colors.
She was looking out the window of the car and yawning. She had again broken her rule and was now working on her second cup of coffee. She had some fruit and yogurt at the house and would get some more, the first trip back to the house.
They arrived at 2300 Los Robles to find Bernadette and Howard already there. They pulled up and parked, with Leonard going to 4B and Penny going to 4A. Penny asked and found that Halley and Michael were at Bernadette's parents for the weekend, then remembered that Bernadette had told her that earlier in the week. The three guys started carrying boxes down to the van, finding the lightest to carry. While loading the van, Zack, Melissa, and Robert showed up, along with Raj a few minutes later.
For the next six hours, there were a total of eight trips to the new house, four for the van, and four for the truck, along with one trip to the storage place. Penny and Leonard had discussed what to do with several pieces of furniture, not sure if they would need them. Zack pointed out that they should take them to the house, and if they didn't need them, to call him and he would move it back to the storage area.
Though both were surprised that such a good suggestion came from Zack, both Penny and Leonard agreed with it and the final trip to the house, for the day, carried that furniture. After that, Penny told everyone that they were done for the day and that everyone should meet at the house at 9 AM. They would finish bringing everything over and then start setting up the house.
Sheldon was looking forward to putting up Leonard's collectibles but was less enthusiastic when Leonard gave him a list of exactly where he wanted almost everything, leaving not much for Sheldon to place where he wanted it. Bernadette and Amy volunteered to set up the kitchen, while Marissa told Penny she would help to put the linens, bedspreads, and towels away.
Saturday 9 May, 9:30 PM
Penny and Leonard were eating a few grapes and drinking some water, talking about unloading the boxes the next day. They were still a bit lost moving around in the house, after all, it was much different from the apartment, but they were starting to find their way around.
They decided to go to bed and Penny waited at the bottom of the stairs for Leonard to turn all the lights off. They then started up the stairs, but upon getting to the landing, Penny asked for them to stop.
"Climbing these stairs is going to be a problem," said Penny.
"It shouldn't be, you climbed stairs at the apartment for 13 years," said Leonard.
"Yeah, but I wasn't pregnant at the time," said Penny, a bit testy. "If I wasn't carrying around all this excess weight, it probably wouldn't be a problem. Also, remember, the elevator has been working since I got pregnant." She paused for a few seconds, "Leonard, I think we should keep my bed here, in the downstairs bedroom. That way, if I get to where I can't climb stairs, I have a bed I can use downstairs. I told Bernadette she should use the downstairs bedroom so she didn't have to climb stairs, so maybe I should take my own advice. She ended up not using it, because, as she pointed out, Stuart was using it at the time."
"That's actually a good idea," said Leonard. "I'll tell Zack, tomorrow, that he won't have to move it."
"That's good, thanks," said Penny. "But, for now, help me up the rest of these damn stairs."
Leonard held out his arm, and Penny grabbed it as they moved up the rest of the stairs, to get ready for bed.
Sunday 10 May, 7:30 PM
Penny looked around her living room and there were ten adults and two children, well, five children if you counted the three still in the womb. Everyone was finishing up eating their dinner, Leonard and Penny had ordered pizza and salads for everyone, as a thank you for helping them move in.
4A was completed, the morning had been spent getting all of Sheldon and Amy's things out of 4B and to 4A and getting it set up. The afternoon was used to get the rest of the things in 4B to the house, or storage. 4B was now almost empty and Leonard had planned to clear out the rest throughout the next week.
Penny had thanked the women for setting up her kitchen, while also thanking Marissa for helping set up the bedroom and bathroom linen and towels. Leonard had thanked Howard and Raj for setting up the audio-visual components and following his instructions for the home network. Along with thanking Zack and Robert for moving everything, and Sheldon for setting up all his collectibles.
There were a few things that would have to be taken back to 4A. Leonard and Penny had borrowed two of the stools for their island, from 4A. Amy said she and Sheldon only needed two for now, and Leonard and Penny could use the other two until they purchased some stools of their own.
Amy had specifically said thank you to Zack and Robert for helping get all of her and Sheldon's stuff out of storage and into 4A and she finally convinced Sheldon to give his thanks to both guys.
After another fifteen minutes, Zack mentioned that he and Marissa needed to get home, as she had a doctor's appointment in the morning. So, Zack, Marissa, and Robert got ready to leave, and, with a chorus of thank you's in the background, left.
The rest of them stayed and talked some more. Amy reminding everyone that Sheldon would be going to Brookhaven on Tuesday. He would be going to give some lectures on Super-Asymmetry, and also discuss how to help them with their experiments regarding Super-Asymmetry.
Howard spoke up, saying he would be leaving for MIT tomorrow at noon. He would be meeting with Dr. David Broden, a materials expert, who would be discussing Howard's finding of fractures in the grip material. And, how high energy particles and the cold of space could cause the fractures Howard had found.
Howard then mentioned that it was time for him and Bernadette to head for home, first because they had to get their kids from Bernadette's parents, and second so they could get some goodbye sex in.
Bernadette grimaced at the comment but started to get ready to leave, as did Sheldon and Amy. Fifteen minutes later, Penny and Leonard were alone in their home. Leonard finished doing the dishes, while Penny picked up.
They both then headed up the stairs, Penny making it up both flights tonight because they were both rather tired with all the work they had put in, over the last four days. They prepared for bed, and after getting in bed, they turned on the television and for the first time watched TV while they cuddled in bed. By 9:30, they were both exhausted and Leonard turned off the TV, while they continued to cuddle, before both falling asleep.
Sunday 10 May, 8:30 PM
They were halfway home when Amy realized that either there was something wrong with Sheldon, or he was thinking deeply about something. She figured this out because he hadn't uttered a single word since they got into the car. She wasn't going to ruin a good thing by saying anything until they got home, so she just kept quiet and drove.
After arriving home, they started preparing for bed, and still, Sheldon hadn't said anything. As they were getting in bed, Amy finally asked, "Sheldon, is something bothering you?"
"Actually, I'm thinking about Howard's comment tonight," said Sheldon.
"Which one?"
"Amy, is there a thing called goodbye sex," asked Sheldon.
Amy was surprised by the question but tried to keep her voice steady as she said, "No, not really. But, some people like to have sex before one of them goes somewhere away for a time since they can't have sex when one of them is gone. Howard will be gone for a few days, so he wants to have sex with his wife before he leaves."
"I still don't think I fully understand that," said Sheldon.
Amy could feel the disappointment rise up in her.
Then Sheldon continued, "However, I have a better understanding, now, of wanting to have sex with you, not just scheduling it. Remember how I was after we saw The Avengers trailer?"
Amy wasn't sure she had heard him right, but she nodded.
"So, if you wish to have sex before I leave for Brookhaven, we can have sex now."
Amy was surprised but happy. She was also extremely tired and just wasn't up to it tonight. But, she didn't want to say that to Sheldon, so she said, "Most often, I am willing to have sex with you any time, but no, not tonight. It should be the night before you leave, so why don't we wait until tomorrow night?"
"If that what you want, that's fine," said Sheldon leaning over and kissing her. "Goodnight, I love you."
Amy, although still shocked, said with a smile, "Goodnight, I love you, too," before reaching over and turning her light off.
Sheldon rolled over and turned off his light.
