Two devilish Baptisms a.k.a. Renouncing the Devil
Summary: Takes place somewhere between 5.05 und 5.06: It's Charlie's Baptism with his entire extended family, including his devilish Uncle, being present in the church. What can possibly go wrong with this scenario? All characters in here. Kinda Prequel to my stories "Audience with a Devil" and a bit of chapter 3 in "Devilish Christmas".
A/N: Takes place somewhere between 5.05 und 5.06; after Charlie's birth, but before Dan sees Lucifer's Devil's face.
Actually, I was inspired by this idea when Lucifer said to Amenadiel in one of Season 5B episodes, that their Dad shouldn't show up again till Charlie's first communion.
Also a silver rattle is a common gift for the child at the Baptism and God had hidden his powers in Charlie's silver rattle in the season 5 episode where he decides to be a mortal.

Chapter 1
"Am I baptized?" Trixie asked with a slight frown as her mother braided the other half of her dark hair and attached beautiful pink plastic roses midway, the rest of her tresses falling down to the girl's shoulder's in slight curls.
"No, monkey." Dan's parents had wanted it back then after Trixie had been born, but both she and Dan are only children and neither she nor Dan had any real close friends, who could be Godparents.
"I still can't fathom how you humans think that a few drops of germ contaminated stale water will keep your soul from taking residence in Hell? And get you on the good side of Dad all the while. It isn't like he would watch and keep record."
Dan swallowed the last spoon of his pudding, leaning lazily against the back of the couch. "Then I wonder why your brother, which you claim to be an angel, is for the baptism of his son."
"He always has been a petty bourgeois and arse-licker when it came to be our Father's favorite." Lucifer ignored the two pointed glares, his name being hissed by his girlfriend and the giggles of the child as he rummaged through the top shelf of Chloe's kitchen cabinets in the desperate search of more sweets or something to drink. "After having knocked up a mortal, I guess he thinks he has to make amends with Dad."
Being finally released from the little stool, Trixie jumped down and immediately rushed over to her favorite person, stealing a red gummy bear from the bag he had discovered well hidden behind the cans of beans.
"Hey!"
"Lucifer, why are you grumpy today?"
He stared down at the child scandalized, who had now climbed onto the kitchen counter, facing him and fetching another red sweets. "Grumpy? Me?"
"Yes, you." She held his stare as he sputtered, chewing her loot. "Is it because we have to go to church?"
"It's a dire place to be, child. You can be glad your mother is raising you an atheist. Otherwise you would have to listen to made up stories and half-truth every Sunday."
"I like stories!" A bright smile lit her face up. When Lucifer had become her and mommy's friend a few years ago, her abuelita hadn't been thrilled when her granddaughter called the Devil the coolest person ever and even less, when she called him her friend. That's when she had taken her to church one Sunday and had even ask the priest if Trixie might take part in the Sunday School. When the conversation in the class happened to turn to the Devil and his demons and Trixie had naively and with a beam of joy told the priest and the other children that she was friends with not only the Devil himself, but also his demon, the priest suggested her abuelita that a psychiatrist for children would be a more fitting place for a delusional child than the church.
"Oh yeah, lies and renouncement of me. I'm so looking forward to this!"
Trixie's face fell a little as she saw his sorrow. "I'm sorry, Lucifer." Without further ado, the little brunette leaned forward and hugged the sad Devil around the chest. "I won't believe the lies about you." Daniel rolled his eyes in the background, not happy that his daughter believed the delusions of her mother's boyfriend, but he knew by now there was much worse.
A yelp left Lucifer's lips in surprise and he froze for a small moment before her words sunk in and a warm feeling spread in his chest. Yet so much closeness was still overwhelming to the Prince of Darkness. "Get off me with your sticky fingers, little parasite!" When she didn't let go, he fished another red Gummy Bear from the bag and dangled it before her face. "Fetch!" and the sweets flew onto the countertop next to her.
Chloe rolled her eyes about their antics. "Let's get going, you two." As soon as Trixie released the Devil and snatched the Gummy Bear from the counter, Lucifer stepped away and approached his girlfriend with the intention to walk past her, but she grasped his arm gently. "Hey. Trixie is right. We know who you really are. Not what the Bible or priests try to tell us." Her daughter was right: the Devil had a grumpy pout on his features. With a sigh, she pressed a kiss to his lips. "It's important for your brother and Linda."
"It's just important to Amenadiel because he hopes to present his spawn to our Father. But Dad will be Dad and won't even bat an eye!"

The ceremony had been nice up until now, yet boring, listening to Father Steve recite psalms or other stuff, Chloe now knew were only vaguely true. To her amazement Trixie was listening raptured while even Lucifer was pulling himself together and had only mumbled and grumbled twice. But now, when the priest turned towards the child's father, the blonde felt her boyfriend next to her stiffen and at hearing the priest's next words, she knew why. "Do you renounce Satan's wor-"
"Umm Father, I would rather skip this entire part with renouncing the Devil." The priest looked at Amenadiel like he had grown a second head and God's first born elaborated. "You see, those phrases will only bring strife to my family." He looked briefly with a smile at his younger brother, who looked rather amazed up at him, while the two Decker women next to Lucifer grinned like crazy. Even Ella to Trixie's left smiled as she saw the silent exchange between the brothers.
"But-" Before Father Steve could further object or even discontinue Charlie's Baptism, Amenadiel smiled at him and his angel grace swayed the other man to believe this was indeed the best way to proceed.
With a slight nod at the angel, he then turned his attention to Linda, who immediately said "Me, too." also startling Father Steven.
"I was also asked to skip this part, but I renounce the evil and sins in general." Dan saw how his daughter beamed up at him. Well, this was a small price to see his child happy and his streak of mistakes and sins was long enough already to make sure which way he went in afterlife. Maybe getting onto the Devil's good side wasn't the worst idea.
"But not the Devil?" The priest verified dumbfounded.
"Naw, family strife and so on…"
With a slight head-shake the priest looked at the foul-looking Godmother, who gave him the creeps.
"Oh, I don't have a problem with renouncing Lucifer and his work!" Maze said with a shrug and a smug smirk towards the Lord of Hell. The priest was relieved that at least one of the parents and Godparents would renew their baptism. "He really can do his stuff himself! I'm done to be always the one to clean up his mess and then be forgotten afterwards."
"You see: family strife." Amenadiel explained the gapping priest with a long-suffering sigh.

"Oh Daniel, so you do like my work after all."
The detective rolled his eyes on the other man's shit-eating grin. "Amenadiel asked me to." But well, since everyone seemed to play along today and also as Dan could stand the self-proclaimed Devil better since his return from Florida… He was surprised that Lucifer indeed wore the bracelet he had made. "Considering your and Chloe's case solving rate, your work can't be so bad, although I still wonder after four years how you accomplish that with all your shenanigans."
"Skill, Daniel."

Resolved the little brunette walked up to the priest, a polite smile on her face, just as her parents and also Lucifer had taught her. "Hallo, I'm Trixie. Renounce means reject, doesn't it?"
"Yes, my dear child, it does."
"Why should my Daddy and Maze reject Lucifer?" Trixie ask with a frown. "Maze only rejected Lucifer because she is still angry at him for going to Florida without her." A trace of hurt covered the girl's face. "I can understand her. It was mean that he didn't say good-bye to me either."
"What do you mean?" A deep frown ceased Father Steve's forehead. "The Devil was in Florida?"
A vigorous nodding of the head followed this question, but Trixie was already at the next topic, chewing her lower lip slightly. "My mom and my dad are both police officers. I know it's dangerous work." She quickly looked over where her father was speaking with Lucifer and her mother and Ella were cooing down on Charlie in his white dress. "My mom was a few times in hospital already because of her work…"
"I'm sorry to hear that, child."
"If something would happen to my mom and dad at work, then I would only have my grandparents left. No Godparents." Her eyes became pleading at her next words. "I just turned 11, can I still be baptized so I can have Godparents? They still have to make up, but they will eventually."
"Sure, there is no age limit to receive the love of God." This made the worried girl visibly relax. "Your faith in God and Heaven and the existence of Hell and the Devil is all that matters, child. Do you believe?"
Wrinkling her forehead, Trixie thought a small moment, then shrugged. "I guess if you believe the one exists then you also believe in the other one." She saw a smile spread on the priest's lips. "I believe in the Devil, Hell, demons and also God and Heaven."
Father Steve frowned slightly about the strange order. "Do you already know anything about Heaven and Hell, my child?"
A large smile appeared on her features. "Oh yes! The Silver City is a boring place when you ask Maze."
"Silver City?"
"Heaven." Trixie stared at the so-called God-expert like he had grown a second head. "Hell is a bit dark and the only fires burning there are the Hellfires in the magma sea in the west where the Demon Blades are forged. Every soul has its own cell with an individual created Hell Loop. And the demons punish the guilty souls in those loops and if the soul had been really really bad, then they get a really special treatment. And in the middle of Hell is a pillar with Lucifer's throne. But he doesn't like to be there. It's dark and ashie and loud with screams." The face the priest made was really funny, too bad that her father's hand firmly grasped her wrist in that moment.
"I'm sorry." Dan mumble towards Father Steve with a slight bow, while pulling Trixie gently away. Amenadiel's plan to have Lucifer occupied the entire time by one of them, so he couldn't engaged the priest was all well and fine, if there wasn't the catch that his little daughter would believe in all of the self-proclaimed Devil's tales of Hell. He should have kept a better eye on Trixie, too.
A little confused about her father's apology Trixie stared up at him with pleading eyes. "I wanna be baptized, too. And Maze and Lucifer shall be my Godparents!" They suddenly stopped half way through the church and her father's blue eyes settled onto her. A few months ago, she wouldn't have spoken with her Dad about their devilish friend, but recently both seemed to be friendlier with each other. So she gave it a shot. "Does Lucifer has to renounce himself then?"
"Yes."
"But you, Amenadiel and Dr. Linda didn't." Trixie wiggled out of her father's hand and lunched herself through half the church and onto her favorite hugging-victim. "Lucifer!" She crashed into him with his usual reaction of a huff and a rather terrified expression. With large pleading puppy dog eyes she looked up his shirt and met his large brown eyes. "Will you be my Godfather?"
"What!?" He tried to pry himself free or at least lighten her grip on him, but her question stilled his escape attempt.
"I wanna be baptized and I want you and Maze to be my Godparents!"
Puzzled his dark eyes locked with Trixie's equally chocolate orbs, staring up at him with resolve. "What do you expect from the baptism, Urchin? I already told you that it won't change your odds to get to Heaven and if it's that you are keen to hear those half-true stories, then I'm happy to teach you the real facts."
Her face fell a little. She didn't want to tell him the truth, especially not with her parents so close by. They shouldn't know about her worries, even though she had promised her Mom to not pretend any more. "But it's not the same."
"Oh, you mean the germ infected stale water!" Struggling with pulling his attached parasite a few feet towards the small basin, he eventually managed to reach his goal. "Well, if it's that you want." He dipped his forefinger with distaste in the Holy Water before drawing a cross onto Trixie's forehead. "I baptize you in the name of my Dad, my pretty mortal bastard of a half-brother, and the Holy Spirit, whatever that shall be." Immediately rubbing his finger dry at her white and pink floral dress' skirt. "I just hope I won't get onychia."

Linda looked just in time up from her little angel to see behind her tribe members another ritual unfold. "Umm Chloe, the Devil is baptizing your daughter."
All women and Amenadiel turned around to watch Lucifer drawing a cross onto the girl's forehead. The angel only muttered a "Oh Father!", Ella knew she should be as a good Catholic be at least a bit shocked, but couldn't keep from giggling and Maze narrowed her eyes in annoyance. Well, and Chloe rolled her eyes heavenwards before stomping over to her boyfriend and her ex-husband, who had also quickened his steps, the priest in tow.
And until now, Amenadiel's plan to keep Lucifer away from the priest and keep him happy by not renouncing him had worked so well. He really should have listened to his gut feeling and said his thanks and farewell to Father Steve immediately after the Baptism and should have left with the entire group to the restaurant.
