Devilish Christmas – or the truth behind it

Summery: Takes place during season 5B (maybe around 5.13): It's Christmas and Daniel's first knowing about the celestial truth. Which makes him wonder about Lucifer's behavior during the festivities all the more.

I've read some great Christmas-fics, but all revolved about either Lucifer hating Christmas or he doesn't really care about it until he is introduced to the festivities by Chloe and Trixie. Well, this is a completly different take on Lucifer meets Christmas.

I own nothing, just playing with the characters.

Like every year for the past five years the bullpen of the homicide department was turned into a Christmas-wonderland, with colorful garlands stretching from one end to the other and along the handrail of the stairs. Golden paper-stars and a chain of white fairy lights created a fake starry sky on the separation glasses between the work tables. On every desk a red garland adored the monitor, while miniature plastic Christmas-trees twinkled in countless colors next to them. Even the window between the observation room and the interrogation room was decorated with flashing lights – not to forget the small real tree in the corner, with its red and golden baubles.

The break room held its own small tree with an abundance of garlands and baubles and garlands were spread all over the tables and the kitchen counter. The small table in the middle of the bullpen held instead of a variety of doughnuts ginger bread men, ginger bread houses and candy-canes. And almost every officer and detective wore a Santa's hat to round up the picture.

This was the new custom to the L.A. homicide department. Not in the least, thanks to their resident devilish consultant. Irritated Dan walked past the boxes with figures spread on the floor next to the stairs, a cup with non-alcoholic punch in his hand. With a shake of his head, he watched their Devil lift the figure of baby Jesus from its box with a large smile and say 'Happy birthday, little brother.' before handing the figure over to his decoration culprit Ella.

Puzzled he made his way over to his ex-wife and sank down in the 'club owner's chair' next to her desk, his voice lowered. "Chlo, I always wondered, but now I'm outright confused." Dan muttered as he watched Lucifer of all people, wearing a red Santa's hat, singing Christmas carols along Ella, as both put the finishing touches to the little nativity scene below their opulent decorated tree, the top harboring an angel figure with ridicules large and white wings almost bumping against the ceiling.

"Why in Hel- on Earth is the actual Devil a fan of Christmas?" In the background Lucifer turned the artificial fire of the bonfire and the big star above on, causing Ella to cheer and clap her hands. "I wondered the past years, but now since I know the truth, it doesn't add up at all." The detective tore his eyes from the domestic X-Mas- scene and faced the Devil's girlfriend. "He always complains about his siblings and especially God. Is Jesus the only brother he likes aside from Amenadiel?"

"I wondered that, too." On the Christmas the year before, the first one since the revelation, she had eventually asked him. "Lucifer did despise this holiday, but about nine years ago Amenadiel let accidently drop, that their little half-brother is outraged about everything Christmasy."

"Why that? People around the world are celebrating his birth, what's bad about it?"

"We do it for centuries on the wrong date. Although we know this." Chloe leaned a bit more towards Dan, still having one eye on her boyfriend. Last she needed was him to secretly hang up mistletoes – their new lieutenant was fine with keeping up the decoration tradition of the department, but he draw the line at the mistletoes. "According to Amenadiel, Jesus opinion on the entire thing is, that the mortals misuse him. First the church by using an exaggerated story of his birth as means to convert heathens by putting it onto the same date as one of their holidays and nowadays by the consumer society to use it to earn obscene amounts of money."

Her voice dropped to an almost inaudible whisper. "Actually, Jesus is the Grinch."

"So, he does this to spite his little brother?" Dan pursed his lips as he thought about it. "This sounds more like it." Nodding he took another sip of his punch.

Chloe leaned back and rolled her eyes. "You have no idea." The Christmas parties at Lux were infamous with eggnog and high-proof punch, not to mention the decoration of the far end of the dancing floor with a life-size nativity scene, all barkeepers and bouncers dressed as 'Wise Men' and the dancers wearing Santa's hats. This was only topped by dragging her and Trixie together with Eve and Ella to a nativity play at a church last year. It turned out that Eve and Jesus can't really stand each other, which was mainly caused by Jesus being Adam's sports-TV and couch-potato buddy. At least Trixie and Ella did have their fun back then.

"To get this straight, by celebrating Christmas, we do anger the birthday child." No wonder Amenadiel looked so torn every year and especially this year with it being Charlie's first Christmas.

"Mhm."Chloe nodded while worrying her lower lip. Last year she had decided to keep celebrating this holiday like she had before, mainly for Trixie's sake, and once she crosses over to Silver City, she would apologize in person.

This made the entire Heaven-and-Hell-really-exist-thing so much more complicated. With a sigh Dan got to his feet and walked towards Lucifer and Ella putting away the boxes. Placing his now empty mug on his desk and keeping his Santa's head from sliding down from his head, he joint in the decoration mood. "Well, better to get on the Devil's good side then." The way he was sure he was going after his death, he doubt he needed to worry about apologizing to Jesus for celebrating his birthday on the wrong date.

A/N: Reviews are a wonderful thing!

I have an idea for another chapter, but it isn't fully developed yet.
