"So, Touma, where are we going first?" Kuroko asked.
The two were currently traveling, hand in hand, through the streets of Academy City. At first Kuroko was flustered by this, but eventually she got used to it. In fact, she found it somewhat comforting. Touma continued to lead her until he stopped in front of a burger restaurant that she had never been to before.
"I figured that you haven't had lunch yet, so I thought that this would be a good first stop." He said, looking at her with a smile.
He was right. Kuroko hadn't had lunch yet, and the smell that was coming from the building was… heavenly. The two walked in and sat down at a table. Kuroko opened her menu and her eyes widened a bit. The prices here were pretty expensive, even by her standards. She peeked around the menu at Touma, she swore that she saw him sweating while he read through the menu.
"Uh, Touma."
"Y-Yes."
"Are you sure you want to eat here? We can always go somewhere else; somewhere cheaper."
"N-Nonsense. I brought you here, you can order whatever you want, I got the bill covered." He said, shakily.
She raised an eyebrow, but went back to reading the menu.
"Are you two ready to order?" A voice came from beside the table. They looked up to see their waitress, ready to write down what they wanted.
"Can I order anything, Touma."
"...S-Sure, Yep!" He said. His hesitation made Kuroko suspicious of him.
"Ok, then." She turned to the waitress, "I would like a burger with a small side of fries."
"Got it." The waitress turned to Touma, " And you, sir?"
Touma was looking at the menu and doing some calculations.
"I would like…" He looked at the waitress, "A cookie."
Kuroko and the waitress burst out laughing… until they saw the serious look on Kamijou's face.
"W-Wait, Touma, are you serious?" Kuroko asked, her eyes wide open.
"Yep."
"U-Uh… ok. Is that all for you, sir?" The waitress asked.
"Yes, thank you."
The waitress walked away and Kuroko turned to Touma, looking angry.
"Touma, why didn't you order anything? Is it too expensive here?"
"I did order something, a cookie, and no it isn't too expensive here, I just have to save some of my money for later."
"What for?"
Touma smiled at her, "A surprise, but that's for later, let's live in the now."
"You know, I can help you pay…"
"Nonsense, I can afford this, enough talk about money, let's talk about something else."
"Ok… like what?"
Touma thought for a second, before looking down.
"C-Can you tell me how we met? I'm so sorry, I don't remember at all-"
He stopped when he felt a hand on his. He looked up to see a smiling Kuroko.
"Sure, Touma."
"Wow, did I really do all that?" Said a wide-eyed Kamijou Touma, after Kuroko had told him of how they met, and their encounter in the alleyway years later. It made sense to him now, why Kuroko was so close to him, and why she was really mad at him in their first encounter.
"Y-Yeah." She stuttered. Even now, his past bravery impressed her.
"...And I don't remember it… at all." He said, looking downwards.
"What happened, according to the doctors? If you don't mind me asking." Kuroko asked, she was really curious what happened to the boy.
Touma looked at the ceiling, away from Kuroko
"H-He didn't really know either, he just said that I was involved in an accident…"
Kuroko stared at Touma, it was obvious that he was hiding something. Touma was trying to avoid telling Kuroko about the magic side of academy city. Even though he was new to it, he didn't want to involve her, because he had experienced how dangerous magicians were (just a few days ago he was rescuing a girl called 'deep blood')."
Kuroko opened her mouth to question him, but before she could, the waitress arrived with their food.
"Hmm, guess I'll have to ask him some other time…"
"Thank you, ma'am." Touma said to the waitress as she walked away. He unwrapped his cookie and took a bite, Kuroko did likewise with her burger.
"T-Touma, do you want some?" She asked, offering her burger to him.
"Are you sure? I could just cut off a small piece."
"O-Or you could just take bites from it… it would take less effort…" She said looking down, blushing.
Touma's eyes widened at the implications of what this meant.
"W-We would be sharing an indirect kiss!" He looked at Kuroko, "...Calm down, Touma, we are both mature and she probably doesn't care at all…"
Kuroko, meanwhile, was in a panicked state.
"Why did I say that?! I'm so stupid?! Wait, if he bites it, does that mean…?!"
"You know what?! We can just find a knife-"
"No, I mean, if you are okay with it, I'm okay with it…"
Kuroko thought for a moment, then reluctantly shook her head and handed Touma the burger.
He slowly took a bite…
…
...And the world didn't end…
The two looked at each other, smiled, then burst into laughter. They shared the rest of the meal then exited the restaurant.
"So where are we going next, Touma?"
"You'll see in a second." He said a grin creeping on his face
As they approached the park, Kuroko could hear many people's voices on the other side of the wall, she was curious what was going on. When they turned the corner, it all made sense to her.
The carnival was up this week.
She giggled, "Touma, is this the surprise?"
"Yep!" He said, a smile on his face.
She deadpanned at this. "Seriously? Don't you think we are a little old for this, Touma?"
Touma made a fake expression of shock, " What?! You're too old for this?! I guess we won't have fun then…" He then laughed, took her hand, and they entered the park.
And despite her earlier comment… Kuroko had the time of her life.
First, they played some carnival games.
Kuroko excelled at the ring game, while Touma missed all of his shots.
They walked away from the stand
"Dang, I missed all the rings…"
"Come on Touma, you got outscored by a girl." Kuroko said, while carrying all her prizes
He turned to her with a smirk on his face, "Don't think I didn't see you teleporting the rings onto those bottles. "
"Y-You saw me?!"
"Heh, yeah, you aren't fooling me."
Kuroko looked down, red from embarrassment.
Touma just laughed.
Next, they went to the biggest rollercoaster in the carnival.
"I can't wait to do this, it looks so fun!"
"T-Touma, maybe I should skip this…"
Touma looked at Kuroko, "Wait, why would you want to skip… are you scared of heights?"
"I'm not afraid! It's just that I feel safer on the ground."
Touma deadpanned, "That's the same thing as being afraid."
"No, it isn't!"
*sigh* "Are you sure you want to skip it? It would be really cool to experience it with you."
Kuroko looked at Touma, she didn't want to let him down. Reluctantly, she joined him in the line for the ride. Once they were in the front, they got in the two seats on the front of the rollercoaster. Kuroko was shaking from fear, when she felt a hand grabbing hers. She looked up to see Touma smiling at her.
"It's just a ride, remember that. I'm really glad I can do this with you."
Kuroko looked away with a smile and blush on her face.
And with that the ride started.
"You scream like a girl, Touma." Kuroko was laughing once they got off the ride.
"Hah, that was way scarier than I thought it was going to be. You looked like you were having fun."
"Yeah, I was, thanks for convincing me to go."
"No problem." Said Touma with a smile, "I'm getting hungry again, lets get some cotton candy."
Touma rushed off towards the stand to some for them, while Kuroko sat down at the bench and watched him with a smile on her face. She was having an amazing day with him, he was making it really fun for her.
He came back carrying two cotton candy sticks. He held one out for her.
"Thanks."
"No problem."
The sun was beginning to set and Kuroko had to leave soon, or else she might get in trouble with her dorm manager.
"I'll have to leave soon, Touma, I had a really great time today."
Touma's eyes widened and he looked at his watch.
"Wait, Kuroko, can we go to one more place, really fast?"
Kuroko thought about it, she had a little time left.
"Sure, as long as it's quick."
Touma took Kuroko's hand and they exited the carnival. He led her to a grassy hill that had an overview of the city. He had seen the sunset from here a few times as he was walking home from school.
It was absolutely beautiful.
"Here we are!" He said, letting go of her hand and sitting down on the grass. She sat down next to him and watched the sunset.
"I-It's stunning!"
Touma just stayed quiet and after a while, he spoke.
"I had a really great time with you today."
She, subconsciously, leaned her head on his shoulder. His eyes widened but then he smiled and leaned on her head.
The two watched the sun set...
Touma jumped awake at the sound of his phone ringing. He groggily looked around at his surroundings, then his eyes widened. He had fallen asleep with Kuroko on the grass, watching the sunset. The sun was gone now and it was dark, except for the streetlights. He answered his phone.
*yawn* "Hello?"
"TOUMA! WHERE ARE YOU?! WHAT ARE YOU DOING RIGHT NOW?!"
"Oh, Index, I'll be back soon, give me a couple minutes."
"Wait! You owe me an explanation-"
Touma quickly hung up the phone and shook Kuroko.
"What?" She said groggily, then her eyes widened when she realized where she was.
"We fell asleep, it's been an hour. I've got to go, I'm so sorry for making you late." He said, looking at the ground.
Kuroko chuckled, "Touma, I don't care that I will be late, I really enjoyed this. Thank you."
He looked up, "Really?! It went well?"
"Yeah, I loved it."
"Thanks!"
"Well, I'll be seeing you, Touma."
"Yeah, you too, Kuroko."
And with that, the two parted ways.
When Touma got home, he was met with an angry Index.
"Touma! What were you doing out this late?"
"I was with my friend, sorry for worrying you."
"What were you two doing?"
"We were just hanging out."
Index eyed him suspiciously, but eventually left him and went to bed.
*sigh* "That was a bullet dodged, I feel that Index won't approve of me being out with a girl this late, even if nothing happened."
When Kuroko arrived at the dorms, she teleported into her room and quickly got ready for bed. She was lying in her bed, when she heard a voice from the bed across from her.
"I was the one who had to cover for you tonight, Kuroko." Miska Mikoto said. Kuroko had covered for her whenever she was out late, it felt good to return the favor.
"Oh, sorry, I just lost track of time."
"So how was your date with Touma?"
"W-What?! It wasn't a date, and how do you know that it was Touma that I was seeing?!"
"Come on, Kuroko, I'm your roommate, I know everything. Also, you don't dress like you did for just anyone."
Kuroko was laying in her bed blushing.
"It went really well, I had a nice time with him."
Misaka smiled, she had never seen her roommate this happy.
"Are you going to see him again, soon?"
Kuroko thought for a moment.
"I don't know… I hope so."
