La Push and Magic

As I was driving back, I was thinking of many different things. How was dad going to react to me riding a bike? I was sure he wouldn't shout at me; I have never seen him shout about anything, even in the books. Bella ran off to Italy for a few days, and he never shouted. I know he would be scared for my safety, but I had the riding jacket and a helmet, so I think he will relent in the end, and I paid cash, so it's not like I can get a refund.

The other thing was what I could use the runestones for. I had a few ideas, something that hides my presence from people, One that explodes, one that is a fireball, Maybe one that increases gravity around the stone, and one that stops people from listening in.

The exploding and fire one will be hard to work out without trying them. The more magic in the stone, the bigger the boom or fireball, but I had no clue how much to put in. Guess it is time or trial and error with dangerous magic, lucky me. I knew that Edward would be back maybe tomorrow. It made zero sense for him to get back Monday morning.

There was also Tylers van that I needed to worry about. I could run the risk of letting Edward save her, but that was no guarantee that he would maybe they aren't mates in this world. I could use magic, but I would need to be careful that no one saw me. I should be able to pull Bella out of the way with ease.

I could see that I was getting close to Forks and my dad's reaction to the motorbike. I know that he grounded Bella when she and Jake made bikes in the second book, but I think that was due to her crashing and not telling dad about it.

I pulled up to our house with dad's cruiser outside and the abomination that was Bella's truck pulling up on the bike. I got off and adjusted the backpack, thinking I should have added a lightweight enchantment to it. I finished stalling for time. I walked up to the house and opened the door, and entered. I saw that Bella was cooking dinner, which was better than dad trying it or getting takeout.

Dad was watching some sports on TV. I greeted them both and walked up to my room and placed all everything I bought down on my bed, getting the laptop out, and started to set it up. After connecting to the internet, I was reminded of the year and limits of technology with the download and upload speed. At least it wasn't dial-up, leaving the laptop to update. I moved over to everything that I bought.

I stored all of the runestones into colours and used magic to conjure a wooden box to place them all in. I had a total of ten different colours, which I would assign different uses for at a later date. I put a locking spell on the box and an unbreaking spell. I would have to add a crystal to the box at some point as wood was a bad capacitor for magic. And then I had the large obelisk that I would use to keep creepy perverted vampires out of my house at night. When I was reading the books, I am not sure that Edward watching Bella sleep without her knowing didn't seem creepy to me.

I decided that if I need to, I would use magic on my dad so I could keep the bike and ride it. As the truck really needed to die, I guess I could have it set on fire one day. An idea for the future, maybe I placed the obelisk on my bedside table and put the carving kits on the box with the runestones. I then tried to see if there were any vampires nearby, but the spell showed nothing other than humans, but maybe vampires showed up as humans with the spell. I would try it at school.

Bella called us for dinner, which was a simple chicken and vegetables.

"Thanks, Bella," Dad said.

"How was your day out, Maya?" Dad asked me.

"Good, I got everything I needed and wanted," I told him, taking a breath. "I also bought a bike to get around," I said, looking at dad, who seemed to be thinking.

"Don't worry, I got a helmet and riding jacket, and I won't ride when it is snowy", I told him as a promise. I could see Bella looking at both of us thinking about something.

"I don't know, Maya people get into lots of accidents on bikes", Dad started.

"Ya, but that is why Forks is perfect. It's a small town where traffic accidents don't happen a lot, and it is new riders that get into accidents the most, making this the best place to get used to riding", I told him, hoping he would agree and if not, I was going to take the Jedi approach.

"I best not catch you speeding, or the bike will have to go," Dad said. I could tell he was unhappy about me using a bike, but the small town argument seemed to win him over, which was good. I would have felt terrible if I had used magic to alter his mind, even if it was only a tiny amount.

"Oh, I am going down to La Push tomorrow to see Leah and Seth. I will no doubt be gone all day," I told him, knowing he wanted me to see Leah as she was having a hard time, he thought. Well, yes, her boyfriend dumped her and got with her cousin, not that it was his fault with the whole magic wolf-mate, but it must still be rough as he won't even tell her why.

After finishing dinner, I went back to my bedroom, grabbed the cloth bag all the runestones were in and started to use my own magic reserves to add runes on the outer edge. I remember how I wished I had a bag that was larger on the inside and didn't weigh anything, so I would make one now before I forgot. After adding all the runes on the outer edge, I moved over to the rune box and picked two runestones that were both deep purple with silver runes carved on them.

I added them to each end of the drawstrings, then using my own magic, I added a feather-light enchantment to the bag before adding the expansion charm. I used the magic I stored from the Layline to make the inside of the bag a total of twenty-five meters squared space inside. I felt that would be large enough, and the magic cost beyond that was really expensive, so if I need more space, a second bag would be the best option.

I placed the obelisk and the runestone box into the bag to keep them safe and quick to hand. Checking the pendant, I saw that I still had lots of magic stored in the pendant, checking the time I got ready for bed before draining all the magic I had into the pendant and fell to sleep a few minutes later.

The sun was already up by the time I woke up, but it was Sunday, so I decided it wasn't bad that I had slept in. This is one of the reasons that I didn't often drain my magic till I passed out, as I won't wake till my magic has returned to full. Looking at the clock, it was only eight am, so it wasn't that late to wake up, but I usually only sleep for five or six hours a night, whereas last night, I slept for twelve hours straight.

Getting out of bed, I walked over to the bathroom, started to get a shower using the cold water to wake me up, and walked back to my room to get dressed, looking in my wardrobe. I grabbed clothes perfect for hiking along with some good boots as I wasn't sure exactly where the Laylines are in La Push. Some are on the beach others are no doubt in the woods, which would need some hiking to get to.

Walking downstairs, I saw that dad was up alongside my sister, who greeted me before I walked over to the kitchen, grabbed a bowl of cereal, and promised myself to pop into a cafe around midday to get some proper food.

"You still going to see Leah and Seth today?" Dad asked me as I sat down to eat my cereal.

"Ya, of course," Leaving out the whole magic enchantment that I was planning to do, and Bella mumbled something about reading a book and doing some homework before getting up and walking up to her room. After finishing breakfast, I grabbed my enchanted bag before grabbing my jacket and helmet and said bye to my dad.

Running outside, I jumped on my bike and started it up. Nothing felt as good as the wind in my hair and being able to go anywhere when I wanted. I knew after school I would travel around the world like I planned before I died, and I planned on dragging Bella with me. We can go to hot places which she would like.

I sped all the way down to La Push. Not paying attention to the speed limit, I decided that it was best to get the magic out of the way before seeing Leah, as I didn't plan to show her magic at this point or maybe at all. I was still undecided about it, to be fair. Pulling up at the so-called, beach which was more stone than sand which in my book means it isn't a beach. Beaches should be soft white sand and sunny and warm all things La Push beach isn't.

Closing my eyes, reaching out to feel the Laylines, I could tell that three branches then connected to a mainline in the woods. The three branches went to each of the beaches, with the one connected to the first beach being the most extensive and thickest, but all three of them were much larger than the one behind my house, which is why I think the tribe settled here in the first place back when they were spirit warriors.

I decided that I would go to the third beach as it was out of the way, and no one was likely to see me while I was enchanting the obelisk, and it was near the main Layline after all, I had a lot of runestones I also wanted to enchant today as well.

Getting back on my bike, I started to drive back up La Push Rd till I found the hiking trail and turned off with my bike. I placed a spell to hide my bike just in case, but I doubt anyone in La Push would ever steal anything, let alone a noticeable bike like mine. Looking at the trail, I knew it would take about forty minutes each way, but it was only 9.15 in the morning, so I had a good five hours before I planned on meeting Leah.

With the bike hidden, I set off adding a light warming charm to my jacket to keep myself warm La Push was amazing, and this trail was nice though I doubt Bella would be able to do it without falling over every ten minutes. Maybe I could fix it with magic. I would at least try. The time passed quickly as I planned everything that I would enchant and pondering magical theory that I had only my own experience to draw from. I did hope that maybe in this world, other witches existed. I would love to bounce magic ideas of them.

I stopped and felt the Layline and saw that I was in a good spot to draw magic which on the branches of the Layline is in the middle as that lets you draw the most magic as fast as possible, whereas the tip of the branch was much thinner and would limit the magic flow.

Cleaning the floor, I sat down and took out the obelisk and then closed my eyes and started to draw the magic from the Layline while thinking of what I wanted the enchantment to be.

"Stop vampires from entering the area during the night. Set any vampire on fire when they touch the boundary if they have hostile intent," I repeated over and over in my mind as I felt the obelisk get so hot that I was tempted to drop it as it was close to burning me. I kept feeding it magic and kept the chant up in my mind. It took over thirty minutes before it was done.

I opened my eyes and looked at the Obelisk and saw that it had taken on an unmistakable and noticeable glow even during the day, which clearly showed that it had worked at least. I would have to hide this as everyone would question it in the living room.

Placing it back in my bag, I checked the time and saw that it had been an hour. Taking the runestone box out of the bag, I picked up all of the light purple with the first rune letter and started to draw on the magic. Thinking that these would stop anyone from overhearing anything within a five-meter bubble around the runestone.

I continued to enchant some stone that would explode like a large grenade, some that would explode in a fire explosion covering a small area. Some would project a magic barrier around the user. I spent the next hour and a half adding as many features to all the stones that I could till the Layline had run out of magic, and I was out of breath from all the magic use.

Taking a deep breath, I got up and grabbed a bottle of water to drink before I started to walk back to my bike. Thinking when I got to first beach, I would fill the gemstones on my pendant to the brim with all the magic I could. The walk back to the bike took a bit longer than the walk from the bike due to me being tired. My bike was still there, but with the spell covering it, I expected it to be getting on the bike. I started to drive back to the first beach.

Pulling up at the beach, I walked over to the shop to buy another drink. Still thirsty after all the walking and the magic that I had done today, I was close to my limit. Stepping back to my bike, I started to fill my pendent. I felt two of the gemstones become full before letting go of the magic. I didn't want to drain this Layline as I am sure it affects the shifters.

I started to walk to the Clearwater house. Excited to meet them both again, I noticed my memories felt more like mine as time passed. I still wasn't a fan of Jacob's, and never would be, I would think. After all, he wasn't much better than Edward.

Walking up to their house, I looked at it for the first time. It looked much smaller than I thought with four people living there. After all, dads house is much bigger, and it still is quite cosy with three people. Walking up to the door, I knocked and waited for someone to answer.

The door flew open, and I saw who I guessed to be Seth.

"Maya!" he greeted me while giving me a hug which I noticed wasn't beyond human level of strength, but he didn't change till the newborn army came around, so that makes sense.

"Hey, Seth, how have you been" I greeted him back, turning the hug Seth was easy to like. Even the vampires liked him, after all. I could see Sue walking to the door from the commotion. That Seth made, I was sure dad would have mentioned that I was here ad I planned on seeing them, but I guess not.

"Maya, nice to see you again. Come in," she said as Seth let go of me, and I walked in.

"Nice to see you again, Sue, don't worry; I haven't come for any Fish Fry promise. Is Leah in?"

"Ya, she is in her room," Sue said, looking upset, and I saw Seth looked down as well. Leah room was an attic conversion from what I remember, something I thought was cool as a kid being able to look at the stars and such I always wanted to sleep over when Bella and I were over for summer.

Knocking on the door "Leah", I remembered not to call her Lee-lee as that would set her off as Sam stole my nickname for her.

I saw Leah open the door. She really was a beauty. It was a shame she wasn't into the same gender, or I would take her in an instant. Ah, well, I can dream.

"Maya, what… how are you," Leah asked, trying to put on a strong face even with her little slip at the start while stepping aside so I could enter her room.

"I'm good," I said, sitting down on the bed before letting an uncomfortable silence form. After all, we both know why I am really here other than catching up with friends.

The silence continues for a few minutes.

"So Sam," I asked, seeing she wasn't going to say anything and saw her winch.

"He broke up with me for no reason just out of the blue said that we couldn't be together anymore, and even why I ask, he doesn't give a reason", Leah rants. I knew she had a temper, but if he weren't a shifter, I would be scared she would kill him.

"I have pepper spray and a taser. Just saying," I told her, hearing her let out a laugh.

"I am not really sure what to say, but he is a fucking idiot. You are amazing, and it his lost now. If you do kill him, I guess I can help you bury his body. Don't say I don't do anything for you, though," I told her. To be fair, I was at a loss in my old life. I didn't have any real friends and never had to deal with this situation before.

We spent the next two hours catching up and ranting about Sam. I knew he didn't want to hurt Leah, but he still did, so I will slap him at some point. Maybe when Bella and the class go to the beach need to remember to use magic, so I don't break my hand like Bella did when she punched Jacob.

We also spent some time with Seth, who I knew Leah was super protective of. Seth wanted to try riding my bike, but I shot him down as he had never ridden a motorcycle before, and a powerful bike like what I have was a bad idea to start off on. I remember my first bike ride, and I crashed it into a fence, something I don't want to happen to my bike at all.

Sue had taken pity on me and made use all some food as I couldn't just magic some food up with both Leah and Seth around me by five pm. I had to say bye to both of them as I wanted to get back in time for dinner.

"I promise I will come down far more often. I am living in Forks now. I am not just here for summer," I promised both Seth and Leah as I waved goodbye to them and got back on my bike and started the ride home. I had kept my magic open to see if I could sense Sam in his wolf form, but nothing all day. It could be that he was staying away from people till he got control of himself, so he didn't wolf out on them as he did on Emily at some point.

I managed to get home in a reasonable amount of time, but that was mainly to all the speeding that I did, but what dad doesn't know can't hurt him pulling up the drive. I checked to see if anyone was around and only felt humans and all of them being in houses, not trees like creepy vampires.

"Hey dad, I am back", I greeted dad as I saw him sat watching some sports. I couldn't see Bella, so I guessed she was reading up in her room.

"Hey, how did it go with Leah," dad asked me, knowing she was in a rough patch with Sam. I was sure he and Billy are worse than a group of gossips.

"Good. Random question you don't still have that taser, do you?" I asked him, trying to keep an innocent look on my face, which it seemed I failed to do so.

"You are not tasing anyone, Maya," dad sighed out.

"Fine, I won't taser anyone," I said, rolling my eyes.

"I am going to start on dinner," I told him, heading to the kitchen.

I used magic to make some real steaks the ones in the store left a lot to be desired and grabbed some fish to alongside them and steamed vegetables and then started to think where I could put the obelisk it needs to be somewhere out of the way as a vampire could break it to stop it working.

The living room was not an option due to how much the thing stood out glowing, and all, in the end, the best option seemed to be in my bedroom under the bed or in a draw where no one would be able to see it. I would wait for them to go to sleep before activating it, so no one notices it.

Dinner passed quickly with nothing really being said as Bella seemed to have spent all day reading or doing homework, and dad had spent the day at work and then came home to watch sport. I waited in my room for hours, conjuring food and clothes and putting them into my magic bag so that I had them when I need them, even if I was out of magic or couldn't use them.

Sneaking downstairs, I placed the obelisk in the centre of the living room before pouring my magic into it and seeing a large dome-like barrier. It was stretching out till it covered the house and down the driveway and the back yard before I stopped feeding it magic. The dome vanished with a ripple in the air, which faded away. Picking up the obelisk, I walked back into my room and placed it in the bottom of my wardrobe happy now the house and everyone in it was protected.

Before drifting off to sleep, knowing that Edward was going to be back tomorrow and Bella would fall head over heels for him, I was looking forward to talking to Elizabeth again. I had like our talks so far.
