Title: Something Just Like This
Author: Alysia
Category: Post Episode
Summary: What if the wink that Jemma and Daisy shared in the series finale was more than just a random sample and Daisy was pregnant?
Disclaimer: I don't own any characters familiar to Marvel. Also, I did include some dialogue from the last episode, so that isn't mine either.
Author's Note: I've been trying to work through major writer's block. At only five pages, this took weeks for me to finally complete it. Hope you enjoy it.

"They good?"

She was momentarily thankful for the interruption that the question provided for her. Seeing everyone again, even if not in actual person, left her feeling overwhelmed by the sting of tears and the old familiarity that had washed over her. It had been the first time she'd seen the team altogether since before Jemma and Fitz returned to England to settle down. "They're good," Daisy Johnson affirmed, forcing a small smile, though it was the last thing she wanted to do at that moment.

If the last year had taught Daniel Sousa anything, it was that Daisy tended to hold things close. Despite the smile on her face, he knew her emotions were all over the place. He opened his mouth to say something but was interrupted when Kora called out to them.

"Hey, you have to see this…"

The moment passed and Daisy grabbed a firm hold on her emotions. She smiled once again, only it was completely sincere the second time. She stood up and moved to join her sister at the helm, mindful that Daniel was only steps behind her.

"Amazing, right?"

Daisy took in the view and had to admit that it certainly was amazing. She was firmly aware of Daniel's body next to her and glanced at him briefly. "It's beautiful," she breathed, raising an arm around his back, needing the closeness that his body provided.

Not tearing his gaze away from the window, Daniel instantly wrapped an arm around her waist in response, squeezing it slightly. "It really is," he breathed. No matter how many incredible sights that he'd seen since their sojourn into space, he didn't think he'd ever get used to it. It was a far cry from his life in 1955.

The tone of his voice pulled at her attention, and she looked at him once again. "What are you thinking about?"

"The journey that brought me here," he replied. "It was all worth it," he tacked on quietly, squeezing her waist once more. Despite the length of time that he'd been in the future and witnessing the change in various social norms, he wasn't completely keen on the idea of public displays of affection. He and Daisy did maintain a professional decorum when they were around the rest of the crew on Zephyr 3, but they tended to let their guards down when in Kora's presence.

Her stomach did summersaults in response to his words while her cheeks heated up…not exactly in embarrassment, but still unable to feel comfortable accepting such declarations…despite however much she appreciated them. "I think I'm going to try and take a small nap."

Daniel immediately frowned. "You okay?"

Daisy was quick to nod. "Just tired, I didn't sleep very well last night." Her attention fell on Kora. "Let me know if something comes up, otherwise I'll see you in an hour or two."

"Will do," Kora agreed. She watched her sister squeeze Daniel's hand before leaving them both. "Did the chat not go well?" She inquired quietly.

"She said it did," he replied, having turned towards his companion. "Maybe she's just feeling overwhelmed seeing them all again?" It had been several months since the group had a chance to sit in the same room together.

Kora shrugged. "Maybe," she chimed in, though the skepticism was obvious.

"You don't believe that?" He asked, watching her reaction closely.

Kora shrugged, frowning as she did so. While her relationship with Daisy had grown leaps and bounds since she'd joined her and Daniel on their journey through space, there were still some aspects of her sister that she couldn't rightly determine. Anticipating Daisy's reaction in various situations, was one of them. "I don't know," she confessed. "Not for sure, anyway. Maybe it's part of it," she backtracked, but she didn't think that was the sole reason for Daisy's excuse.

"Do you think one of us should check on her?"

Kora nodded. "I think you should." She watched him consider her words. "Maybe it's nothing more than an echo of the past hanging over her head…but she seemed to need someone, even if she doesn't realize it."

"I told you I was fine," Daisy said from her position on the bed as soon as she the door to their shared bunk was opened.

"I know what you said," Daniel replied simply. "I also know you and you aren't as fine as you said you are." He closed the door behind him and sat on the edge of the bed.

"I guess seeing everyone again was more overwhelming than I thought it would be." She'd always held onto the relationships she'd had with her former team members a little tight, keeping them close to her heart. Separating from them had been a bitter pill for her to swallow, despite having Daniel and Kora by her side. "I just…I miss them all so much and despite however much contact I may have with a couple of them…it just…it just isn't the same."

"No, I suppose it isn't," he agreed.

"And now I just feel awful telling you this. The man that was pulled out of his own time. You never had a chance to say goodbye to anyone and I guess in that context, it just seems stupid of me to complain about it."

"Don't feel awful on my account. I know what it's like to miss people and I would never begrudge you for feeling the same way," Daniel told her. Daisy had never been one to hold things back on account of offending or shocking him and he certainly wasn't going to let his be the beginning of it. "Is this all it is or…"

She decided to rip the metaphorical band-aid off. "I'm pregnant," she blurted out before he had a chance to say anything further. She watched him immediately zone out upon hearing her news. The expression on his face remained neutral and she couldn't rightly guess if this was good news for him or one of the worst days of his life. "Or to be fair, I believe I am. However, after seeing Jemma today and her little wink and smile, I suspect it more strongly."

"Pregnant?"

She nodded and nibbled on her bottom lip. "I strongly suspect it," she corrected quickly, hoping that her revelation wouldn't scare him off. "We never even broached the subject of children." He'd only officially 'moved' into her bunk two weeks prior, though they'd shared a bed every night, whether it was in his former bunk or hers. "And now this…?"

He turned towards her and settled a hand on her still flat stomach as he tried to imagine what she'd look like fully flush with their child in her belly.

"Is…" she placed her smaller hand over his own. "Is this…are you happy about this?" She asked when he had yet to pull his gaze from her stomach. He didn't immediately respond so she watched him closely. When he finally lifted his head, she could easily make out his watery eyes.

"I didn't think…" he cleared his throat. "I had given up on the idea of children," Daniel told her then, gathering control of his emotions.

"Didn't anyone tell you that men continue to produce sperm until they die?" It wasn't as if he was working against a timetable like women had to.

"I'm aware," he replied, fighting off a smile of amusement. "But with the way things were before I was pulled out of time…" he exhaled a sigh. "It wasn't as if I had a line of women jumping at the chance to be with me."

"I would have," she said, frowning at the turn of their conversation.

Grabbing the hand that rested atop his, he linked their fingers together. "I appreciate that." It had taken being pulled into the future for people to see him for him rather than the broken soldier that had returned home from Bostogne. "After Violet and then Peggy…" he shrugged his shoulders.

"You mean you never dated anyone after Peggy?" Daisy inquired.

"There were a few first dates, but nothing ever took for one reason or another," either he hadn't been interested, or they hadn't been. "The thought of a family life with a wife and children faded into the background."

"Wasn't that like the norm back then?" She asked then. "You marry, pop out a couple of kids…move to the suburbs…" Daisy prodded. It was around that time that suburbs started popping up. "Maybe not in that exact order…"

"It was," he admitted. "But…" He trailed off, attempting to find the words that best expressed his feelings.

"Peggy was a hard act to follow…" Daisy supplied for him.

He hesitated momentarily, unsure how he should proceed. Though he hadn't expressly admitted anything in past conversations with her, Daisy was aware of his regard the English woman. She may not know the extent of his feelings, but she knew there were feelings, or had been. It was true, after Peggy, all the women he'd met hadn't held a candle to his former partner. Having allowed that, he didn't think it wise to admit such a thing to the woman that currently held his heart. "It would take meeting a time traveler before I found my perfect match."

Daisy giggled then. "Nice save," she chortled.

"Thank you," he responded light heartedly before sobering up a bit. "I worked for an organization that was predominantly male and while they were good agents, that doesn't mean they were good husbands."

Daisy frowned. "So…they had affairs…"

Daniel shook his head. "Some, not all," he clarified. "But I'd seen enough to know that I didn't want to be one of them. My parents had a loving, stable relationship. I saw firsthand how a relationship should be and I wasn't willing to settle," he offered after a moment.

"So…this is good news then?"

He nodded, smiling widely for her. Was she kidding? This was the best news he could have possibly received! "It's the best news I've ever received. Back before I thought it was no longer feasible, this is what I wanted."

She felt an invisible weight melt off her chest. Not that she doubted him in any way, shape or form. Daniel was as solid as they came and she knew that no matter what, he would have stayed by her side. She just hadn't known if the news was something that he would have been thrilled by or not. "You mean being in outer space?" She teased.

"Okay…so, something just like this," he amended his words. "And I'm glad it's with you."

Daisy searched his gaze. "You really mean that, don't you?"

"Yeah, I really do," he admitted. There were conversations to be had and decisions to be made, but they had time for those later. He wanted nothing more than to bask in the moment.

The End
