Author's Note: This is still a work in progress and I'm still tweaking the chapters I have written. I'll be posting this, and then (hopefully) getting on a cruise ship tomorrow, thus being out of communication for the next week. I hope you guys enjoy!
Chapter 1
"I'm so sorry, Kora. I'm sorry you got dragged into this," Daisy Johnson apologized as she tried to wipe the dried blood off her sister's face.
"It isn't your fault," the other woman denied, trying not to wince when her sister touched a sensitive spot.
"I just…you and Daniel got sucked into this too," Daisy shook her head in negative as she tried to gather her words. "I mean your lives have already been upended by something I had my hand in…and now this-"
"For the better," Kora reminded her sister. "You guys saved us, or Daniel…but you let me tag along."
"You are not a tag-a-long," Daisy denied quickly. Kora better get that idea out of her head.
She wasn't normally a religious person, but Kora silently thanked whatever higher power for the fact that at least the three of them were together. She didn't know what she or Daniel would have done if Daisy had been the only one transported to…wherever they were. "Just as you aren't responsible for this. It's…it's part of our job isn't it? To boldly go into the unknown-"
"You've been watching too much Star Trek," Daisy remarked, as she finished cleaning her sister's face, or as well as she could considering they were without water and first aid equipment. "You okay? I mean…other than the obvious?"
"My head hurts a bit," Kora admitted, "but it's nothing I can't handle." She looked around then, noticing Daniel Sousa's absence for the first time since waking. "Where did Daniel go?" She could vaguely recall him saying something, but she couldn't recall what, as she'd been fading in and out of consciousness.
"He's attempting to figure out where we are. We think we're on Earth." However, it was too dark for her to be certain. "We figured that his outfit was less conspicuous than mine in case he should run into someone," as she was still wearing her suit. "I'm sure he'll be back soon enough." At least she hoped so. She couldn't stand not knowing where they were. They needed to come up with a plan. If they were on Earth, maybe they could reach out to Mack to send a jet to pick them up? "Yeah, hi Mack. Remember when you sent us to space? Well, I touched something that I shouldn't have. If you could come pick us up, that'd be great. Thanks." She was sure that would go over well…
"What are you thinking?"
"That I'll never have another opportunity to lead a group after this foley," she shook her head. "Mann is probably thrilled by this."
Kora rolled her eyes thinking about Agent Mann. He'd made his dislike of Daisy and Daniel's co-leadership known from the very first week that they set off into the unknown. "Yeah, he'll definitely use this against you guys," she agreed easily enough.
They both heard the crunching of leaves under approaching footsteps, and stood, prepared to fight. However, when Daniel finally made it into the area, they settled backed down.
"So, do you know where we are?" Daisy immediately asked him.
He nodded. "We are on Earth," Daniel said, confirming their suspicions. "But…"
Daisy felt her stomach drop when he didn't immediately finish.
"Is the dramatic pause necessary?" Kora inquired.
Her sister pursed her lips. "It's not just a matter of where we are," she supplied for him, "right?" Daisy asked, her gaze piercing. She watched him give a minute nod in response. "When are we?" They couldn't have traveled back int time, they couldn't…because without a time machine, how were they possibly going to get home?
"1958." Daniel hesitated then, watching her process the news. She raised a hand up and rubbed her forehead, stepping back as she did so. When Kora spoke up, he watched as Daisy turned her back on them.
"Where are we?"
"New York. Upstate," he said, his gaze remaining on Daisy's form.
"I guess Mann's not going to get the chance to rub this in my face," Daisy turned then, looking at Kora.
She could that her sister was about to have a mini panic-attack. "Daisy," she said, hoping to break into her sister's thoughts.
She shook her head in negative. "I can't be here. I have a life in the 21st century. I mean traveling through time in a time machine is one thing, but…I can't go from that to living in a time where I can't even open my own bank account." She'd never been dependent on a man for that sort of thing, and she certainly wasn't anxious to start. "And what I am supposed to do for work? I've trained for years to become as good as I am and now I can…what? Fetch coffee for a man that's either too lazy or too entitled to get it himself?"
"We don't know yet if we're stuck here," Daniel said in what he hoped was a soothing voice.
"Unless you managed to secure a degree in theoretical physics that I don't know about, then I'm going to have to disagree with you," she denied.
Understanding that she was barely holding onto her control over her emotions, he approached Daisy and claimed a spot in front of her. He framed her face in his hands and waited for her gaze to meet his. "We'll figure this out," he tried once again, doing his best to maintain a calm façade.
Daisy inhaled a deep breath. She wanted to believe him, but at the same time she held herself back from letting his words soothe her. It was as if a ball of dread settled in the pit of her stomach. So far, she'd dismissed every idea she'd thought of in order to get them home.
"It's 1958, that's only what...three years since you were pulled out of time, right?" Kora said. "I mean you had a life in this decade at one point." So, that meant there must be someone that could help them.
"Across the country," Daniel corrected as he stepped away from Daisy.
"He was also declared dead 3 years ago," Daisy chimed in as she turned to look at her sister. "If he just shows up on someone's front doorstep, we're going to have to answer several questions."
"I don't think we have a choice," Daniel told her softly as he squeezed her hand.
"We also run the risk of branching off," she countered.
"Again, I don't think we have a choice," he repeated. She only hesitated for a moment before nodding in agreement to him. "I found a phone book and searched through it. I think I know where we can go."
"Hi, can I help you?"
Daniel knew when he knocked on the door that there would be a possibility that someone other than Peggy Carter could answer it, but he never would have thought it would be Steve Rogers! He knew from studying SHIELD's history (since his death) that the man had been in Daisy's time, so he was more than a little confused by his presence. "Uh, hi. I'm looking for Pe-" Before he could finish his question, the woman in question walked up from
"What the hell is this?"
"Peg," Daniel greeted.
Ignoring the pang of old familiarity that she felt upon hearing her name uttered from his lips, she pushed forward. "Who are you?"
"It's me, Daniel."
"Agent Daniel Sousa died three years ago," she denied forcefully. "Try again."
He hesitated then, trying to think of something he could possibly say that would prove who he was. However, he knew that if he mentioned something to do with any of their cases, she would deny it because of the records that SHIELD kept and the chance he may have gotten a hold of one.
Her eyes ran over his form. "Daniel Sousa had a prosthetic leg and needed a crutch or cane to get around. I don't see one." Without a beat, she continued. "If you're going to impersonate someone, at least-"
"Still have a prosthetic, just a much better one," he interrupted before leaning down and lifting his pant leg, showing just enough of it to make his point. "I don't require a cane to get around any longer."
Steve looked from the smooth surface of the fake limb with a feeling of dread settling into the pit of his stomach. It was far too nice to be from this point in time…even if the man opposite him had money at his disposal.
Daniel cast a quick glance at Peggy's husband, hoping that the other man wouldn't be angry for the memory that he was about to poke. "As for proving myself to you," he cleared his throat. "You and I had a conversation after Violet broke off our engagement. You apologized for coming to L.A. and for, I quote, 'mucking up my whole life.'" He watched as her back straightened. "And I said that 'maybe I was fooling myself,'" he tacked on, recalling the words he'd used in response.
"No," Peggy shook her head in negative. How could he know that? She'd never mentioned it, not to anyone. "How could you possibly know that?"
Emotions began to swell behind her voice, and he knew that he was getting through to her. "Because I am Daniel Sousa," he told her with a tint of finality. "I was pulled out of time by a SHIELD team from the future on the day that I was supposed to die." He watched the couple exchange a look. "I know you must have a lot of questions and I will tell you everything, but we need help."
"We?" Peggy asked. She watched Daniel step away from the door, motioning for someone to join him. Two women followed him back to the door, one settled at his side while the other stood a step behind them.
"Two of my team members, Daisy Johnson and her sister, Kora," he introduced, motioning to each woman as he did so. "We were dealing with a situation when we were somehow transported across time and space."
Daisy didn't say anything, letting Daniel handle the conversation. However, once her gaze settled on Steve Rogers, she had a difficult time removing it from him. How? How was he in 1958? He had been in her time…hadn't he? She hadn't heard anything otherwise before their trip into space.
Peggy's critical gaze immediately fell on the women. Both seemed a little worse for ware, but otherwise unharmed. One wore an outfit…uniform? The style was something she'd never seen before while the other also wore slacks, though they were very tight. Again, not something she'd see on a day-to-day basis.
"Time and space…" Steve repeated. He almost didn't want to believe the man, but his own past experiences kept the skepticism at bay.
"We weren't on Earth before we arrived here," Kora spoke up.
"SHIELD has the technology for space travel?"
"You've been removed from SHIELD since 2012. You wouldn't believe some of the things we've done, Captain," Daisy said then, pointedly calling him by a partial of his moniker to let him know she was fully aware of who he was, even without his popular uniform.
Between the details this…doppelganger shared, and the fact that at least one of the women was familiar with Steve, only helped drive home the fact that this really was Daniel standing before her. Throwing caution to the wind, Peggy stepped forward and threw herself into Daniel's arms. "I thought you were dead." Her voice was muffled against his shoulder, but it was easy enough for everyone to make out the words.
"That was the idea," he replied gently, hugging her back. Even though their relationship hadn't worked out, they'd remained distant friends. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you, but I didn't exactly have a chance to prepare before we jumped forward in time."
"It's…after the way things ended between us and…we were able to be amiable, but we never had a chance to…and then you died."
A lump formed in throat as he listened to her words. He knew exactly how she felt, because he felt the same way once upon a time. Though they'd remained friends, they'd never found that same closeness again. "I know…" he replied, holding her still.
She pulled away from him and wiped away a tear that ran down her face. "I want to hear everything," she told him before looking at the women he was traveling with. "Come in, please," she said, leading the way into the house.
Daisy stepped aside so that Kora could follow behind Peggy and looked towards Daniel, wondering how he was processing everything. So far, he seemed okay, but that was Daniel. He often held his emotions close until he had a proper chance to process them. She met his eyes, her gaze penetrating, as if questioning him.
He appreciated her concern for him and offered her a subtle nod of his head.
She supposed that even if he wasn't okay, he wouldn't say anything to her about it, at least not then. Stepping past him, she followed behind her sister and Agent Carter, wondering what Jemma would say if she could see her now…in the same room as Peggy Carter.
Waiting until all the women left them, Steve stepped closer to the other man. He'd never met Agent Sousa before that fateful day in 1955. He wasn't convinced by the man's story, but Peggy appeared to believe that this was her former partner. "I don't know if you are who you say you are, and if it was up to me, you and your friends would still be standing out here."
"Then I suppose it's a good thing that it isn't up to you, isn't it?" Daniel immediately responded before he could control himself. Understanding that he'd just rustled the man's feathers, he hesitated and reminded himself that Rogers was only trying to look out for his wife and the life they'd built.
"If you so much as look at her wrong-"
"I'd never harm Peggy," Daniel interrupted before the man could finish his threat slightly offended that someone would think that of him. "And I think we both know that she can take care of herself should a situation arise."
"Steve, can you please bring the first aid? Our guests are in need of it," Peggy called from the house when neither man immediately joined them.
Daniel took the opportunity to step past Steve. He had to admit, it was little unsettling stepping up to Captain America and he was eager for Daisy's soothing presence. Stepping into the room, he found Daisy and Kora on the couch while Peggy claimed a seat on the loveseat opposite them.
"I apologize for Steve," Peggy said as Daniel crossed the room and claimed a seat next to his team.
"He's just trying to look out for you," Daniel excused simply, not bothering to repeat anything that had been discussed. His attention fell on a picture frame that rested on the coffee table between the furniture. Peggy and Steve, pictured with a little boy and an even younger girl, he could only assume they were their children. He pulled his gaze from it and looked back towards Peggy as Steve returned to the room with the kit and what looked like wash cloths.
"Thank you," Daisy replied, immediately digging into it, and turning her attention on her sister.
As curious as she was to hear the story, Peggy held back while Daniel's team gathered themselves. Instead, she peered at her former partner, musing at his near presence. "All this time…" she breathed. "You've been alive all this time…"
"Did I at least have a nice funeral?"
As soon as she processed the words Daisy snorted and looked at him. "That's a little morbid, don't you think?"
"The awkward silence was really…" he trailed off.
"Awkward?" Kora chimed in.
After sharing a long look with her husband, Peggy met Daniel's gaze. "It was," she confirmed. "And Howard didn't even make any inappropriate comments during the wake."
He wanted to ask her about his parents, how they'd held up that day. However, every time he opened his mouth to put the question out there, he held himself back. He couldn't hear about the pain his mother went through, burying her only son. He didn't want to know how his father felt, having a broken son return from war only to lose him a decade later.
Finished with Kora, Daisy swiveled in her seat and looked at Daniel. "How about you, Daniel. Do you need me to look at anything?" She asked. He had a small scrape on his chin, but other than that he appeared to be in perfect health.
He shook his head. "I'm okay." He ran his gaze over her face. "Do you need anything?"
She shook her head in negative. "I'm fine."
Peggy looked between the pair, keenly aware of the way they looked to one another. Daniel had introduced them as his teammates, but maybe there was something else there? "You said you were pulled out of time the night you were supposed to die," Peggy brought up then. She waited for his response, frowning when he nodded. But the report she'd seen… "So, that night? It was all fake?"
Daisy shook her head. "No, someone really meant to kill Daniel that night, but before they could, we knocked him unconscious and a teammate of mine took his place."
"So…your friend died instead of Daniel?" Peggy asked then. Did she understand that correctly?
"No one actually died that night. We just had to make it seem like he had. My friend was able to take two in the back and remain under water for an extended period of time."
"How could someone manage that?"
"He's a robot."
"A robot," Peggy parroted, unable to imagine it.
"There have been some amazing advancements in the last few decades," Steve grudgingly told his wife. "Or, there will be," he corrected himself.
"When the emergency call went out, my team intercepted it. The bio-scientist on my team and I responded to the call. We retrieved the body and she filled out the report."
"So…you traveled back in time to save Daniel?" Peggy asked, focusing on Daisy.
Daisy shook her head in negative. "We were following a particular group of aliens, called Chronicoms. Their planet had been destroyed and they decided that Earth was the best replacement. However, SHIELD stood in their way. When they realized they couldn't beat us, they decided to travel back in time and stop SHIELD before it had a chance to become what it did. A couple team members modified one of our planes and we were able to follow them through time."
Peggy shook her head in negative. "But I don't understand how-" How was time travel used so often? First Steve and then these three…
"There's something called the Quantum Realm," Daisy supplied then. When Steve's astonished gaze met hers, she couldn't help but wonder if that was how he was there in 1958. For a moment, she wondered how the Avengers managed to discover it. "It hasn't been discovered yet, but it exists," she declared, mostly for Peggy. "We were able to use it to travel through time and across timelines, though we didn't realize at the time. We were following the Chronicoms, so when they jumped through time, we jumped too. Their second move against us, was to arm Project Helios in 1955, in an effort to stop what they considered the brain trust of SHIELD. That was when we met Daniel."
"Two of her team members infiltrated Area 51, one pretended to be Gerald Sharp and the other pretended to be you," Daniel tacked on, looking at his former partner.
Daisy looked at Daniel then with a small smile for him. "It would have worked too, if Daniel hadn't been there that day," she pointed out.
Daniel smiled back at her, recalling their first meeting.
She looked back at Peggy and Steve. "He obviously knew that Jemma wasn't you and had them arrested and then I arrived, pretending to be CIA." She considered mentioning the Hydra bit but held back. Given how Daniel had initially acted when the truth was revealed to him, she wasn't sure how Peggy would react to the revelation. Especially with the understanding that Hydra had him murdered in effort to stop him from revealing their presence within SHIELD. If Peggy ran a campaign to get rid of Hydra, she could change things for the worst. "We were able to stop them from starting Helios, but there was a snag. The Chronicoms managed to kill and impersonate one of the scientists."
"Dr. Lindmore," Daniel chimed in. "Who was responsible for creating the tech that I needed to get to Stark."
"In the SHIELD books, Daniel Sousa died after delivering that tech, and we…couldn't let that happen, so we devised a plan. We arranged it so he would have a chance to live, even if it wasn't in his time."
"How long has it been for you?" Peggy asked, focusing on Daniel. "I mean since you were pulled out of time."
Considering the date on the newspaper he'd seen earlier Daniel factored the time. "16 months, give or take a couple of days.
"What did you mean by traveling across timelines?" Steve asked.
"The way it was described to me was that when we went back in time, we and I'm paraphrasing here 'branched off' and created a new reality, though we didn't know it at the time. We were cautious about trying not to make too many changes in fear that it would mess up the world we knew. But it's easier to let a bad man live than to let a good man die," she recalled, paraphrasing the words Mack once said. "So, we manipulated the situation."
"So…you aren't my Daniel?" She looked at Steve, noticing his frown. "I mean my former partner?" Peggy asked, frowning as she looked closely at the man in question.
"Honestly, I don't know if we're from this timeline's future, or another one. But he is Daniel Sousa." Daisy couldn't imagine a world where Daniel wasn't the upstanding man that she'd had the privilege to get to know and love.
"So…you used that Quantum Realm to travel through time in the past, any chance you could do it again to get to the future?" Peggy asked.
Daisy shook her head in negative. "I doubt it. I was sort of…along for the ride last time. I wasn't there when they were studying it and I would have no idea where to even start."
Peggy stared at the other woman, sizing her up. It was obvious that she held herself responsible for the situation they found themselves in, perhaps she was the team leader? She knew she was taking a chance, but this was Daniel. "You'll stay here tonight."
"You really don't have to-" Daniel immediately began to deny.
"I know I don't have to," Peggy replied. "But what kind of person would I be if I let my former partner and his team wander aimlessly? Besides, it's late and the nearest hotel is half an hour away. This way, we can chat tomorrow and maybe a new day will bring fresh ideas?"
"Thank you, Agent Carter," Daisy spoke up, thankful for the invitation.
"It's Peggy," the British woman corrected as she rose to her feet. "We do have a spare bedroom with a bed. It might be snug, but you and your sister are more than welcome to it."
"Thank you."
"We don't have another guest room, but we do have a couch," Peggy said then, her attention once again returning to Daniel.
"I've slept in worse places," he replied.
"Aren't you supposed to be in bed?" Daniel asked, returning to his spot on the couch. After showing Kora and Daisy to the spare bedroom, the three visitors had all taken quick showers with Daniel offering to be the last.
Daisy shrugged. "I haven't slept apart from you since we started sharing a bed, I don't know if I can even sleep without you," she divulged.
Honestly, he felt the same way. He claimed the seat next to her and held up his arm so that she could tuck herself against his side. "We really shouldn't," he said, placing a kiss on the top of her head. "It isn't proper," Daniel tacked on then, "not this day and age," he tacked on. "It certainly isn't when staying as guests in someone else's house."
"Then I won't stay long," she replied, leaning further into him. "I just needed some alone time with you after tonight."
"Me too."
"What was that with Captain America earlier?"
Daniel exhaled a deep breath. "He was just trying to protect his life with Peggy," he excused.
While the words made sense, Daisy couldn't help but wonder if there was something else to it. "Are you sure that was all it was?"
Frowning, he tilted his head down and saw her peering up at him. Her face was neutral, but the tone of her voice left him unsure. "What else could it have been?"
"You and Peggy were lovers at one point, weren't you?"
Suddenly, he felt the need to tread carefully. "We were more than that at one time," he hedged carefully.
"That's what I mean. Maybe…Captain America is…jealous?"
"Why would he be jealous?" Daniel asked then. Honestly, the idea didn't cross his mind. "Peggy and I were over before he even reentered the picture."
"I don't know. Maybe... it's just seeing you. I mean it's one thing to hear about your lover's previous partners, but to see them is another," she tried to explain. "I mean you came back from the dead…at least to them and you showed up on their doorstep out of the blue. It's enough to set anyone off kilter."
"You know there's nothing to be worried about or jealous over, right?" He prodded then. He searched her gaze. It wasn't often that Daisy expressed her more vulnerable traits, so he assumed it was bothering her more than she initially let on.
Her eyes fell away from his.
"Daisy Johnson, are you jealous?" He made sure that his expression was neutral, but he felt oddly proud that he could produce such an emotion from her.
That captured her attention and she looked back at him. "No…maybe…a…a little," she stumbled over her words. "I…don't want to be." It was a foreign emotion to her. "I don't know if it's because I've now actually met Agent Carter or because we're back in your time or a mixture of both, but I'm suddenly feeling inadequate."
She felt inadequate. Really? Her? "Did I ever tell you why I chose to stay with your team instead of getting off the Zephyr when we were in '76?"
Daisy considered the question, attempting any sort of recall for a conversation she'd either had or heard in passing. "I don't…I don't think so." When he'd originally mentioned that year being 'his last stop,' it was right before Malick abducted them. The question had crossed her mind a time or two since then, but she'd never uttered it out loud. "I just assumed that you liked the adventure."
"The main reason for my decision was you," he heaved a sigh. "You looked so…small in the healing chamber. All I could think about at the time was how you'd just been through something so horrific, but you still had the mindset to not only find that glass shard but to hide it too. You made it possible for us to escape that day. I was in awe of your strength and perseverance…and I knew that it would only be a matter of time before you found yourself in another situation." He felt her pinch him.
"And you started off so good too…" she murmured, offering him a smile before it dimmed. "Be serious?"
"I am," he insisted with complete earnest. "Once you get something in your head you just…you go for it. No matter what obstacles are in your way, you just keep running at walls."
"And you wanted to be the one to pick me back up after hitting those walls…" She finished for him, recalling a conversation they'd had when they were stuck in the time loops.
"Something like that," he muttered.
"And the other part of your reason for staying?"
"The adventure," he said with a corner of his lip rising in amusement, confirming her assumption. His smile faded as he once again grew serious. "You had me half in love with you before I even realized it." Home wasn't just a place, for him, it was a feeling. "You are my home, well, you and Kora." Afterall, he'd bonded with Daisy's sister, being the only other person pulled out of their original time. "I…I don't know what's going to come from this, but whether we find a way back to the future or have to create a new life here, I will be by your side." There was an intensity behind his voice that left her feeling breathless.
"Promise?" She asked, though she didn't doubt him one bit.
"I promise."
Pushing herself up, Daisy captured his lips with her own. "I love you," she whispered.
Turning towards her, he fell into the kiss. "I love you too," he responded before he deepened the kiss.
The sound of a throat being cleared instantly broke the haze they'd fallen into. Pulling away, they looked towards the sound and found Kora standing before them. "I see how it is, you leave me alone so you can make out with your boyfriend…"
The couple sprang apart. "I thought you were asleep," Daisy said, defending herself.
Kora claimed a seat on the loveseat. "I wish I was," she snorted. "So, Agent Carter, huh…" Kora looked at her sister. "Jemma would be-"
Daisy smiled sadly. "Yeah, that was my first thought after we were invited inside." She tried not to dwell on the negatives, there'd be time for that in the morning. "Remember when I told you about the first time that Daniel Whitehall kidnapped mom…during the war? He was still Dr. Reinhardt at the time."
Kora nodded. "SHIELD or…the SSR rescued her."
"Yes, but it was Agent Carter and the Howling Commandos that liberated them that day."
"Really?" She immediately responded. "How did I not know this?"
Daisy shrugged her shoulders. "I don't know. I guess I never thought we'd have an opportunity to meet any of them, so what was the point of really mentioning it? I mean the important thing is that she lived, and we were born…"
"How did you know?" Kora asked. Their mother had always been so protective of her, trying to shelter her from everything. "Did mom tell you?"
"No," Daisy replied gently. "After Hydra came out and SHIELD fell, we needed a place to go. We settled at a base called the Playground. It…wasn't in any of the information that was dumped to the general public, and we stayed there until we were driven out of it by way of fire fight."
"Peg oversaw the building of it in '49," Daniel shared. "It was an SSR base but ended up being decommissioned sometime after SHIELD was founded."
"SHIELD kept it as a bunker of sorts, but when Nick Fury was director, he renovated it, turned it into a functioning base with a concept of it being used as an optional headquarter," Daisy took over explaining again. "Some of Agent Carter's old case files were hidden away and we found the hiding spot…or well, Jemma did. She was a complete fan-girl that day." Her eyes began to tear up as she remembered her best friend. What if all that was left of that life were her memories? She wiped her eyes and pushed away the downtrodden thought. "Until we found the hiding spot, no one in SHIELD knew about the existence of Inhumans or terrigen crystals."
"Really?" Kora asked, looking to Daniel for confirmation.
"I had no idea, and we were partners for a time," Daniel told the other woman. "When I first saw Daisy use her powers, I likened it the super soldier serum."
Kora turned back to her sister. "So that was when you learned about Inhumans…" she assumed. "Spiraled out of control, didn't it?" She asked, her eyes were growing heavy.
"Yup, big ol' cluster…" Daisy confirmed. "Hydra kidnapped me, I met my father for the first time and discovered I was an Inhuman."
"That must have been so scary," Kora said. As much difficulty as she'd had trying control her powers in the beginning, she'd had an entire community to help…until they began getting fed up with her.
"It was…once I was locked in the chamber with the diviner."
"The…" Kora trailed off considering what Daisy had just said. "You transformed with a diviner?"
While he remained quiet and content to let the pair chat, something about Kora's reaction pulled at Daniel and he made a mental note to discuss it with Daisy at a later point. She'd spoken of the event only once, and by the way she described her team member's death, he never thought to question her further for fear of dredging up obviously upsetting memories.
"Yeah, talk about old school…" Daisy replied. "Of course, I didn't realize it at the time." A yawn escaped her. "It'll have to be a story for another day though." She settled a hand on Daniel's thigh and squeezed it affectionately. "We should probably try and relax. Morning will be here before we know it."
"You'll sleep better in the room," Daniel acknowledged.
"I'd sleep better with you," she immediately denied and then held up her hand to stop the impending tirade from him. "Not appropriate for the 50's, I get it. Doesn't make it any less true though." She stood up and fixed her borrowed nightdress. "I'm already missing my yoga pants."
"Funny, me too," Daniel chimed in.
She smirked in response. "See you in the morning," she bid leaning down and placing a kiss on his lips.
