Chapter 12: Bora Vio
The landing platform was long, dusty, and cold. Omega hurried after Tech along its length, chancing a look over her shoulder only once. She couldn't see Cad Bane in the cockpit of his ship.
Her heart was pounding louder now that she and Tech had actually managed an escape, the tension of her uncertainty as to if they would succeed or not tugging at her mind.
She jogged faster to run alongside Tech.
Within moments, they entered the structure at the end of the landing pad. It was enormous. A wide, mist-filled hall stretched out before them, the dust swirling ominously in the stillness as they passed slowly down the corridor, stirring the long-settled dirt up with their feet.
"What is this place?" Omega asked. The area was vaguely familiar, but not quite recognizable. It frightened her.
"Shh," Tech hissed and pulled her to the side and down another smaller hallway.
There was less dust on its floor and the air smelled cleaner.
Tech's eyebrows scrunched together and he flicked his gaze about. "This structure most definitely resembles the buildings on Kamino," he breathed.
"What?" Omega gasped, louder than she'd intended, and Tech hushed her, pressing his hand to her mouth.
"Someone has also been here recently," he murmured.
Omega gripped the wrist of Tech's hand and pulled it from her mouth. "We have to get out of here," she whispered, heart pounding more violently then before.
"We shall, Omega."
Omega looked up at Tech's steady features and relaxed somewhat. She could be brave like him. Omega released Tech's wrist and forced her mouth out of it's worried frown into a merely concentrating line, and allowed her eyebrows to peek upwards only slightly. Now for her voice.
"Let's contact the others," she stated.
Tech turned back once before starting forward again. "It appears Bane has not yet located us. We should be able to attempt contact with the others safely - at least for the moment."
Omega poked her comm device and practically jumped in impatience at the long hiss of static that was her only greeting. "Wrecker? Echo? Please come in! We need help! Is anyone there?"
Tech tripped a few paces away at a crouch while Omega attempted the call. He cocked his head and pulled his helmet's screen visor over his eyes, starting back almost at once.
"Let's go," he whispered and pushed Omega forward down the hall.
"What is it?"
"Taun We's here..."
Omega's comm crackled before she could reply.
"..mega?...Omega?"
Omega stopped dead in her tracks. A wide smile spread over her face, relief flooding her whole being.
"Hunter??? Hunter, I'm here! Tech and I got away, but we need help!"
"Where are you?" Echo's voice barked through the comm.
Omega opened her mouth to reply, but Tech pulled up his comm faster.
"We are in the Lido system. I shall attempt to create a power surge for you to trace. My guess is you are not able to track us by our comms?"
"Right," said Echo. "The distance is too great. We'll get there as soon as we can."
His ending words were drowned out by a low, guttural growl. Omega gasped and spun on her heel.
"Playtime's over," hummed a nasal voice, and Bane materialized out of the mist.
"Run, Omega!" Tech snapped, seizing Omega by the arm and jerking her towards the end of the hall.
Bane clucked his tongue sympathetically before leveling both blasters at Tech and Omega and firing.
The stun bolts came whizzing towards them, the circles of blue energy dissipating, spreading out their radius to envelop their targets in an instantaneous and numbing embrace.
Tech whipped Omega behind him and collapsed as the energy made contact with his body.
"Tech!" Omega cried.
Bane holstered his blasters and strode forward.
"By hook or by crook, you're coming with me," he snarled.
Omega slammed her hand onto her wrist comm. "Hunter, I need you!"
The fuzzy reply of Hunter's, "Omega!!!" was cut short as Bane snatched the device from Omega's arm and crushed it beneath his boot.
A pair of electro-binders was snapped over Omega's wrists and Bane dragged her back down the hall leaving Tech unconscious on the floor.
Omega struggled. "You can't leave him!" she shouted, trying in vain to trip up the bounty hunter.
Bane yanked her roughly in front of him and stared into her eyes with solid red orbs.
"He's proved to be more trouble than it's worth," he growled. "Come to think of it, so are you. Todo!"
Omega pulled against Bane's grip. "I don't care, you can't just leave him! He's my friend!"
Bane bared his teeth."You're lucky they want you alive..." he hissed.
"Who wants me?"
Omega was interrupted from any further protests by the appearance of Todo. The small droid was still hovering unsteadily about on one booster, and he landed in front of Bane with an unsteady clunk.
"Yes? Mister Bane?"
"You bring that hypo?"
"Of course I did! I take my role as servant and reliable companion seriously," Todo quipped.
"Good," said Bane. "Stick her."
Omega struggled as Todo, sighing dramatically, approached her and poised a hypo in his hand.
"I can't reach her neck, Bane," the droid informed. "If you'd fixed my booster, I might be able to, but in this unsteady state -"
"I thought you were reliable," Bane snarled and, seizing the hypo from Todo, pushed the needle into Omega's neck.
A strange lightheadedness floated through Omega's brain within seconds, and she sagged against Bane's hold as her equilibrium fled.
She heard a shot. A deadened sound punctuating the silence that now engulfed her. She barely registered Bane's muffled "Stay put" before any and all sense of awareness faded away along with the retort she tried to fling back at him.
