CHAPTER FOUR - Calm before the Storm

Putting the bowl on the kitchen counter, which was soon filled with the honey flakes he had pulled out from the near cabinet moments earlier, on top of it, Danny merely yawned slightly, sighing briefly afterward. He would never have imagined that working in the supposed mountain of the Righteous would have done so much to finish him off, but he was clearly wrong.

He didn't complain, after all, it was him who decided apart from having a profession related to helping a new generation of youthful heroes, to keep his previous one, which was a researcher working for specific astronomical research stations. Nevertheless, only now, after some time of being in and struggling with the fulfillment of two duties at the same time, he began to notice the lack of even having a moment for himself.

Sighing heavily, shifting one of his hands over his neck, so he could massage it along with his back, he put all the necessary things on the shelves he had previously taken to make his quick meal. Normally he did not look into that part of the base (if that's what he could call it), he rather stuck to his part of it where he had his own little corner next to the most important power generators and the source that powered all this complicated mechanism.

Although he became acquainted relatively recently, because practically a few weeks ago with the teenagers with whom he lived with two, he still preferred to stay aloof. Today, however, he just must have finished his pack of cereals with his beloved honey-flavored petals in the shape of small stars with a hole in the middle. At first, he did not know what to do, after all, what was the guarantee that in the kitchen in the main room there would be these and special cereals.

For a long time he argued with himself whether he should go and check if they have them in some of their cabinets or not, after all, he didn't want to run into someone on the team by accident, being completely hungry. It was hard for him to admit it, but he wasn't in the best mood when he was forced to think with an empty stomach.

He was indeed able to work for several days, completely forgetting to eat a meal, but when he remembered it, his body immediately demanded something. But since he was still half-ghosted, no matter how much he disliked it, he needed a relatively smaller dose of food than a normal human. At once, however, it might have seemed suspicious to some people because no matter what, every adult, especially as tall as him, needed an appropriate dose of nutrientsequals to his body weight.

More than once, therefore, he saw the surprise on the face of his former or contemporary colleagues, when they found out that the portions he consumed were relatively small, inconsistent with his norm, and yet he still bravely maintained his stature, perhaps not so powerful (Although he had some weight on him), it was not as great as it might seem, but still respectable.

So he didn't know what he was expecting, either, when it turned out that no matter how much he thought his bad luck as a hero was over, it still clung to him and probably had no intention of leaving him. The chance that when he was just eating his meal, or rather was going to do it in this room, rather than in his current small kitchen, he would hear the Zeta-Tubes starting up, was minimal... Right?

"Why am I even surprised?" He asked himself, cursing silently under his breath when, not even after a second in the room in front of him, he could see first Megan emerging from the teleportation device, then Superboy and Aqualad behind her. Luckily there were no kid-whose-tongue-was-faster-than-his-thoughts with them, for he swore he would otherwise have fallen out of exhaustion from the questions he would have asked him.

"Oh, Danny!" Megan replied, who was a few steps away from him when she noticed his figure standing next to the tabletop. He didn't have to wait long for the other two teenagers to notice his presence in the room as well.

He didn't necessarily enjoy the murderous glare sent back to him by Superboy, which he could have sworn had gone centrally to the very center of his core. So he probably didn't have to mention that his stomach twisted unpleasantly and shivers went through his body when the said teenager did it a few meters in front of him.

He didn't know what the kid had to go through, or why he had to be forced to do, because now, no matter where he appeared, he looked at him like a murderer. Danny himself didn't feel at all comfortable with it, the fact wasn't that he was somehow afraid of the kid's gaze, it was just... It just didn't bring him back good memories that he wanted so much to forget.

He was unable to centrally look at himself or the teenager's eyes as he gave him that particular look, which made both of them look away.

So he breathed soundlessly with relief when he noticed that it was not even known when the younger boy had left the room, leaving only Aqualada and M'gann in the room with him at the same time.

"Would you like to try my new recipe?"

"Huh?" He interrupted suddenly, glancing at the girl who had spoken the words to get his attention again.

Wait, did she just say a new recipe? After all, he could have sworn that she hadn't perfected her last one yet, making it not necessarily perfect, as she had mentioned earlier, that she wanted to achieve one.

"You're not going to improve your previous one?" He asked, saying the same thing that came to his mind a moment ago, only to be able to meet with the girl's sad face after saying these words, which immediately made him regret saying these words.

Great Danny, you just upset a teenager! Could you just shut up for once-

"I tried..." The girl muttered softly, biting her lower lip lightly, only to sigh later and complete the rest of the sentence. "But I wasn't very successful at it, so I thought maybe..."

"Hmm, maybe I could help you?" He interrupted suddenly, looking at the products visible on the counter, which were unfolded and arranged in some way of controlled chaos.

He didn't have to wait long to see the friendly smile from the girl standing in front of him, which was soon chased away by her departure from him and the approach to the previously discussed furniture, which contained all the necessary things to prepare delicacies.

"Your lab is working well?" Aqualad's voice was certainly not something he had expected to hear so quickly, but it's not like he was complaining. Fortunately for him, the aforementioned teenager was one of those who welcomed him into their, as you can call it, a common group in which they had to cooperate.

It was perhaps not the best reflection on a healthy relationship, Danny was sure that as a human, that is, a social person, he should meet at least with other people of his age. But trying to do this didn't always end well, no matter how hard he tried to start a conversation. His sister tried many times to explain to him what disastrous consequences his attitude and mentality about communication with others may have in the future, but then he was too busy trying to become independent and cut himself off from his hometown.

"Yes, it has everything I need in it, so I'm fine." Finishing his speech, he waved only one of his hands from side to side in a gesture of pushing the subject aside, thus informing his interlocutor that he would not necessarily want to continue it.

Fortunately, he did not have to wait long, and the oldest of the two young people immediately understood that he didn't want to sink deeper into the subject. So he just nodded his head towards him, so that after approaching the Zeta-Tubes he could disappear in a few seconds in their glow, leaving the adult man with the mentioned teenager.

Sighing, he only approached Megan, who eagerly and for him began to give him all sorts of bowls and sachets full of spices or the necessary ingredients. For a moment it seemed to him that he would land on the floor due to the weight he was loaded with, but after a sigh of relief, he managed to regain his balance.

Arranging everything in his own order now, he took off his white apron, remaining only in a black T-shirt with sleeves that he later rolled up so that, after squirting with his fingers, he would be able to defy his inner voice, which said: "That later he would regret it because it wouldn't end well" only so he could sigh without revealing his inner emotions and get down to work.

GREETINGS MORTALS-!

Sorry that you had to wait for so long, many things in a short amount of time came up and I've had a problem with sorting everything to their right place.

But now I'm here, with the new chapter! :DD

Okay, I'll cut this shot because I don't really have time-

Ghust95:

1 - Danny maybe keep using or training his powers sometimes?

2 - Aby possible couple for Danny in this story?

1. No, not really! When he decided to retire and cut his every complicity related to hero work he also after some period of time stopped working out. He sometimes visits local gym when he has time to do that (But it's really rarely because of his work) but it's not really often. Other than that, he also isn't using his powers in free time. Maybe sometimes because as much as he don't like it they're still part of him, they're still there and he sometimes just out of instinct he uses them (Or because it's easier to use them sometimes, lmao).

2. Ooooh, I thought about that one! I wasn't really sure if I want to ship him with anyone because not everyone might like it but after a certain amount of time that I spend on thinking about that - What would you guys think about it? And I'm sorry for saying it at the very begining but Danny here won't be shipped with anyone from Young Justice Team.

It'll be phedophila. And I don't want to write any of that fricked up stuff in my story. Honestly I've been thinking of maybe Black Canary? They'll be the ones that have contact with themselves the most (Not including Red Tornado, he's a robot and I'm also not going to write ship with him-) so they would have the best amount of time to bond together. But I really don't know and I'm not sure! You can always say your opinion in the comments who do you would ship Danny with! (Maybe Valerie? She's going to be introduced to the story in future chapters, so who knows???)

And as much as my gay ass loves making homosexual pairs - Writing one in that story just doesn't feel... Right for me...

So yeah-

Again sorry, no gay ships for you guys (Maybe if you'll want one I'll think about writing an One-shot about that which would be unrelated to original plot, BUT DON'T GET ANY IDEAS-)

gabrielgrayson812: What happend to Dani

Okay, I can't say that I wasn't expecting this question but not so soon-

Anyway, somebody already asked it so I can answer it!

So, I won't lie I'm not a really a big fan of her character. I don't dislike her in general but being precised I don't like the whole episode in which she was introduced to us, and I know that as ironically that might sound coming from me, who is literally writing a whole story about crossover but - D-stabilized for me seemed like plastic episode written by some kid.

The potential that this episode could potentialy unlock was giganormous - IT COULD'VE BEEN GOOD.

But for me it wasn't.

But hey, I completely understand if someone like this episode, you have every right to do so!

I'm just saying - For me it was trash, aaaaaand, by that - I could and will use Dani in future chapters but she won't be here for long. I expect for her maybe take two chapters, maybe three or maybe even only one, who knows? As I've said - I'm not really a big fan of not her character but the main episode in which she was in, she wasn't for me really good written so I'm not sure how one is supposed to even write her character-
