CHAPTER SIX - Fog Problem, Part One

"New team member so soon?" The young scientist asked himself as soon as he caught sight of a girl dressed in a green outfit, supposed to be similar to that of a Green Arrow.

He was called to the main place in base like the rest of their ever-expanding team by surprise, and to be more precise by Batman, when he was in the process of writing his report to NASA laboratories. Apparently, however, his plans to complete his task had to be interrupted, as to his surprise it was also he who had to appear in the central room of the base. However, not having too much of a choice (And the personal confrontation with The Dark Knight himself did not get to consider for even a moment...), he collected everything he should, including his favorite mug with constellations in which there was still some coffee leftovers. Putting his white apron on and sipping the aforementioned liquid in the meantime, he walked calmly towards the mentioned room.

As soon as he appeared in it, he could see from a distance how in the very center of the room, apart from the basic composition of the team, to which he somehow managed to get used to, there were a few more people in it, and only one of whom he knew.

The girl who he saw for the first time, dressed in the colors of intense green, was a new addition to the team, as he guessed. Later on, his speculations could only be confirmed by listening to the conversation of others when he appeared next to them. In addition to this all mess, a young boy also joined them, but this time his clothes were black shades interspersed with red.

No one even noticed the moment he entered the room, or so he thought until he saw with the corner of his eye, that Batman shot him a short glance that really said nothing.

Danny, of course, like Danny, had no intention or strength in any way to try to guess what the Gotham hero was trying to tell him (At the second thought was he even trying to, or it was just him who was paranoid?) and his gaze only make shivers go on his back. So, like any normal person who would find themselves in this situation, he just stood still, while quietly sipping his cold coffee.

"Doctor Serling Roquette." These words, spoken by the youngest member of the team, who at the same time transferred the holographic projection to the platform from his handheld display, so that it could be seen better by the others in the room.

Has Danny heard of another genius? Yes, more than once regarding the fact that they attended the same university, but he didn't witness any discoveries that the young woman made. It was so, because when she was the one who came to the building to get needed knowledge, he was in his senior year. Only later, when he tried to maintain some contact with his professors who taught him, he learned that an amazing scientist attended the robotics department.

"...That's why, Danny, will come with you."

"Danny?"

"Wait, what me?" At that exact moment he said that, he felt a multitude of eyes on him, snapping him out of his thoughts. When he saw especially the two new teens whom he had already briefly introduced before, the girl from earlier only slightly glared at him.

"Who's that?" Yup, it just felt great being so welcomed! The only thing missing was someone accusing him of incompetence, and that happened many times too, looking at his young age.

"This is Danny, he will accompany you on your mission."

"Wait, what mission?!" Looking confused at Batman, who had just said these words, he allowed his posture to tense up a bit, trying to understand what he got himself unwillingly into this time.

"Great, he wasn't even paying attention to us, when we talked about the details of this mission, is he even competent to come with us?" Huh, the words that he doesn't have any abilities appeared much faster than he expected. But who was he to judge? It wasn't like that, that just a moment ago he didn't mention the exact same thoughts in his own head. (Feel the sweet sarcasm!)

"For your information genius, I am after successfully passing robotics department, and I know that Roquette studies it too." He replied with a clearly audible sass in his voice, typical of a teenager sneering at his parents, only to turn his gaze slightly to the side, as if he didn't care at all what was happening at the moment, only to be able to take the last sip of his coffee.

"Another scientist? Why bringing him, when our goal is to destroy the Fog, not to protect one more defenseless civilian." A red now in Danny's head teen called "little shit" with a mask on his face didn't even know how much at this point Danny wanted to spit his drink in his face and say that he is not so vulnerable, but not yet Danny, relax, you will have an opportunity to raze him to the ground.

"Danny graduated from the robotics department, where Dr. Roquette is currently studying." Batman said, drawing the attention of the people gathered in the room to him for the second time. Again, some gathered people, especially the elders, nodded their heads, already understanding where the line of thoughts of the hero of Gotham was going. "If he joins your mission, he will be able to create with Dr. Roquette the right virus faster to sabotage the Fog."

The silence that fell after the adult hero spoke these words was not quickly disturbed. Many people, who at first might have been skeptical about taking another "helpless" scientist to this mission, now straightened slightly and nodded, understanding the decision made by The Dark Knight.

"And that means I have no choice in this matter?" He asked, raising one of his eyebrows as he crossed his gaze with the one behind the dark hero mask of Gotham.

But when he didn't get even the slightest twitch in response and even more glare from him, he knew that even here, there was no point in arguing. While making a sound of resignation and dissatisfaction, the young adult at the moment really wanted to just sit on a nearby chair and hit his head as hard as he could on the nearby desk, to make sure it all was just a one big nightmare.

However, he well knew that this was not the case, and what was unfolding before him was the reality in which he was entangled. Funny how much his life was trying to involve him in any way possible into the hero business, even though he has clearly shown it more than once that he is happy to be where he actually is.

Swearing softly under his breath, he even wondered for a moment if all of this wasn't some kind of sick turn of events, plotted by no one else but a well-known Master of Time himself, who wanted to push him in the supposedly "Right direction".

There is even no option that he will return to being the idiot he was during his years as a young hero.

"This is the only time when you are assigned to a mission together with a team, your knowledge will be useful in its successive completion."

"Oh, you don't even know how much troubles like to follow me..." He mumbled to himself quietly under his breath as, turning away from his temporary interlocutor, he turned towards the kitchen section to leave his cup in the nearby sink, which he planned to wash later.

True, he may not have taken a part in any kind of missions for a long time (If you even can call with that name his many heroics acts, he was doing in his hometown), but he didn't have to do it, to feel that something might go really wrong, in a short amount of time...
