Chapter 1
Today was the first day back since…well since she was fired, since she killed her patient and made a child motherless. Honestly April wasn't sure she deserved to have this opportunity, it was an amazing opportunity but it was scary, she wasn't sure she could even be a Surgeon after she was fired she got an opportunity to work at a clinic miraculously still able to use all the knowledge she gained from medical school thank god, but it was a clinic, a small clinic so she did a lot of administrative work, she became a glorified secretary. April wanted to complain but she can't because she killed a patient and she needed the money, but she got the job back, a resident position, April Kepner can be surgeon again it was amazing
And scary. God it was frightening, could she be responsible of another life again? So she stayed by Dr. Shepherd side became his glorified secretary, honestly it was better than actually seeing a patient at the moment. So she ignored the stares she got from the other residents and the attendings and stuck by his side the entire day did all his paperwork, being interim chief he didn't really have any surgery just a lot of meetings and the couple of small surgeries, well small for Neurosurgery standards and standards honestly that she honestly got out of which she was thankful before April even knew it she was hungry. As she grabbed the food from the Cafeteria all she could do was feel the stares on her, Jackson, Charles the original Seattle Grace doctors god it was so annoying so she just found a quiet place to eat in peace and grabbed a her phone to check for messages which evidently she had.
How is work?
Stressful but nothing you need to worry about
How was school?
It was okay gave us some hw to do and

She shut off her phone when Reed came in. April was angry at Reed for awhile but it didn't last long, she did what she had to do, she followed the rules and April deserved the punishment she got but honestly if the merger wasn't a thing she probably would have been through probation or even suspension but it was her own fault for being careless in a very hostile environment.
"Who were you texting?" Asked Reed
"Just Emily"
Emily Annabeth Kepner was her daughter she was just 10 years old and April herself was only 28 yup, April Kepner was a teen mom. Back in Moline April naively fell in love with a man, an older man and she genuinely thought they would be together forever, he was going to her husband and in her heart he was already her husband, well one day she went to the beach with him and their was this beautiful sunset, and it was all perfect and beautiful if a little painful, April lost her virginity, and then the love of her life talked to her less and less, 2 months pass and they only emailed each other and she missed her period. She got her friend Joseph to take her to clinic 2 cities over and that's when it was confirmed she was pregnant, she had sex once with a condom no less and now she was pregnant. Her life was a mess, Joseph was kind kept her secret and she kept it hidden for as long as possible until she couldn't, she finally told her parents hoping for help but instead her parents packed her bags and dropped her off Joseph place, April became a disappointment in her families eyes, a person who turned away from god, a sinner. She cried for so long, she prayed and hoped that her parents were going to come back and get her but hours passed then days then weeks till she has situated herself in the basement of Joseph family house and finding places where she could get resources for single teen moms. She didn't need her parents her family, she didn't need the man who helped conceived her baby but she did need his money.
Johnathan Hayward an older boy in her school not the brightest he was held back a year but that wasn't a big deal to her or his family, Johnathan was rich, he had one of those ginormous houses and in house workers he was all that. April wasn't the only one surprised by him taking an interest in her, most were surprised Johnathan even looked 'Duckie' way but he did and his reasoning wasn't all that important by that point. God the conversation she had with him and his parents was…a lot.
A 17 year old April still wearing glasses knocked on the large doors of the Hayward estate, she only ever been to the home to tutor and well "tutor" Johnathan but today she needed to do something else. Her bump was now visible but she has been covering it up with large clothing, even wore black for its illusory sliming effects which she usually didn't do. The door finally opened and their he was Johnathan Hayward in all his glory and honestly April was pissed, he ignored her and all he could do was smirk there but she needed to stay calm
"We need to talk" she said and pushed her way inside.
"Look April your a great girl but-"
"I'm Pregnant" he stopped and stared at her mouth wide open but nothing coming out
"Its yours"
"You sure?" And to say April was offended was an understatement
"Seriously? I only ever did IT with you Johnathan its your baby" he now looked like he swallowed a lemon and all April could do was roll her eyes, honestly men.
"Look I just need to talk to you and your parents-" April started
"My parents can't know they will kill me" April glared at him
"Unless you want me to take this to court I WILL talk to your parents" that seemed to shut him up. They waited fro another half hour before his parents came as they sat on opposite sides of the couch when she saw them finally enter the living room, Megan and Roger Hayward.
"April what brings you here I thought you were done tutoring Johnathan?" Mrs. Hayward spoke as she sat down on the same side as her son with her husband.
"We have but I'm here for a completely different reason-"
"Mom-" Johnathan tried to interrupt
"I'm pregnant and your son is the father" a silent shock seemed to surround the room, it was uncomfortable but April pressed on
" From what I experienced from your son first hand I doubt he wants to be father let alone take care of my kid which is fine but I do need help"
"Help…" Roger Hayward said as he looked into her eyes in silent anger
"Compensation. Child Support to be exact" to say was furious was an understatement but he was a business man and he knew how to keep himself in check
"How do we know the…baby is Jonathan it could be anyone?"
"That's right" April agreed "you don't its just my word but if you need a test to see for yourself I will gladly take it but for me your son is the only man I ever had sex with… the only man" they were all silent and frankly April was getting restless
"Look Mr and Mrs Hayward, Johnathan I don't care if you want to be a part of this child life, I can't care about that now but what I can care about is my ability to care for my own child, I was disowned by my family, I have nothing left but my scholarship and this baby, now I have enough to get me some place to live thankfully but I need more to take care of this child and study so we can do this between just us here in this house or I can take you to court where this will be dealt with, in public"
Long story short they dealt with it accordingly, Johnathan relinquished all parental rights happily to April and the Haywards every 6 months April meets with the financial lawyer of the Haywards to adjust the amount according to Emily needs. The money helps them live in a 2 bedroom apartment near the hospital and that's all April can ask for. April graduated visibly pregnant her family wasn't there but Joseph was, she moved to Chicago to do her undergrad and in the middle of her lecture her water broke and she gave birth on the year 2000 on September 26 at 5:26 pm. It was a difficult to where she was, and by god was it stressful but she got here and she needs to get past this bump. April Kepner will be a surgeon.
