"Master, what happened?" Wendy's voice was panicked at the sight of Lucy's body in her master's hands and blood drenching her.

"There was a situation in the street. She just has a cut on her neck," Laxus had a stoic expression on his face. "Don't know the whole story yet."

He glanced at the bloodied blonde laying on the futon a few feet away. Now that he thought of it, he really didn't know what happened. He'd been so enraged when he saw her in danger that he only saw red. He took care of the situation, then left as quickly as he came. He figured he could ask Blondie since she had most likely seen everything.

"What to fill me in on your afternoon fun in the street?" His gaze was piercing her. He wasn't upset with her, it was just unnerving that her life had been threatened only the second day after being here. He was hoping they weren't after her specifically.

She looked away nervous, no longer able to meet his intense eyes. She knew she went about the scenario the wrong way, but she's not trained in that sort of thing so she just ran in head first. She would have liked to come up with a plan, but there was no time.

She looked at the floor to her right as she gingery spoke up, "Well there was a little girl yelling for help, screaming really. When I saw her they were hurting her and the men behind had weapons drawn. So I tried to help.." She knew he wasn't going to like that answer.

"So you ran to four dangerous men, with no weapon and tried to defuse the situation?" It was really more of a statement out of Laxus' mouth but she knew he was still looking for confirmation. He was eerily calm.

Lucy turned towards him, still not meeting his eyes. "Yes. I know it was foolish, but I didn't want to see her hurt."

"How stupid can you be!" His words stung but I knew they were deserved. "You could have been killed! You're weak, you can't defend yourself!"

"I could have done it differently, but I don't regret it Laxus," the anger in his eyes was very obvious.

"You had three people with you! Three! Do I have to have someone explain to you right and wrong? Apparently your mother didn't do a good enough job of that before you left!" Something in Lucy snapped at his cruel words.

Lucy stood, ignoring Wendy trying to get her to lay back down. Her narrowed eyes locked on to Laxus', she dug her finger into his chest. "How dare you! Insult me, berate and belittle me, break down my pride, I don't care! I'm used to it! But never insult my mother! Maybe I was wrong! Maybe there isn't any hope, you don't need someone weak like me by your side anyways!" She was dizzy with rage, pushing him out of the doorway to walk out of the infirmary, not sparing a second glance.

Laxus' POV:

I stood in the infirmary that my fiance had just stormed out of in shock. Sure he had seen some fire in her before, but she was a raging storm just a minute ago. Eyes lit up like lightning, body towering despite her small stature, voice booming like cracks of thunder. If he was honest with himself, she was a bit terrifying when mad.

He knew his words were a bit cruel when he thought back on them, but he didn't think they would set her off like they did. He was just concerned. She seemed to explode when he said something about her mother. He would need to look into the mother of his fiance.

"Wendy, go to Lucy's room and finish treating her there." He watched Wendy gather her supplies and leave before he sat on a chair in the infirmary and sighed. Day two of his fiance being here and she has gotten injured twice and they already had an argument.

He went over the words she had yelled back at him. She was used to being belittled? Insulted and looked down upon? What kind of life had she lived? The third wealthiest family in the country had a daughter that was used to that sort of life?

He sighed for what he felt like the thousandth time in a few days' span. He would need to slowly learn more about Lucy. Sure he could start an investigation on her life but that felt wrong. He would never gain her trust if he went behind her back and dug out her background.

No time like the present I guess. Laxus stood up from the chair, leaving the infirmary. As he weaved his way through the hallways of the castle to reach his fiance's room, he ran into his grandfather.

"Laxus my boy! I heard about the accident in town today, is Lucy alright?" His grandfather's eyes filled with worry thinking about how close they had come to losing her.

"Yeah, she's okay Jiji. I made her upset though." His grandfather then proceeded to smack Laxus with his cane, "Ouch! Hey what the hell was that for?"

"She was probably scared out of her wits today! I'll never see my grand babies if you don't be gentler with her!" Laxus blocked the cane a few more times.

"I know I know. I'm going to talk to her now. Also she's a firecracker, she doesn't need to be handled like a doll," Laxus noticed the beating from his grandfather had stopped after his words and looked down curiously.

"Ah, that's a relief. I knew she would be a lively one. She just needs to come out of her shell a bit. Your mother was quite the spit fire too." The mood had turned solemn at the mention of his late mother. "Now go talk to her, she's all alone here at the moment. She needs someone she can confide in. Make sure that person is you." Makarov left with those parting words.

Back to his mission with renewed vigor, Laxus made his way to her door. He knocked gently and heard shuffling. Wendy opened the door. "Ah, Master Laxus. Miss Lucy is just fine, she's dozed off though. She had quite the stressful day. I'll be heading back to the infirmary now." Wendy left with her supplies and he was left at the still open door.

He saw her with her head down on her arm, leaning against the tea table under the open window. Her eyes were closed and her petal pink lips were slightly parted. A few sakura petals had drifted onto the table, one even finding its way into her half-drunk porcelain tea cup. Her golden hair fanned out of the table like silk. She had changed her kimono into a simple lavender hued yakuta. She stole his breath away, she was mesmerizing even asleep.

He noticed the bandage around her neck, guilt eating away at him. She wouldn't be injured if it wasn't for him. He saw faint dried streaks down her face, telling him she had cried. She wouldn't have cried if it wasn't for him. He turned around and was about to walk away, guilt too much to handle when he heard a sigh and some shuffling. He faced her again and noticed her eyes were fluttering open and looking at him.

Not knowing what to do, he stood still. "Laxus?" her voice was soft like summer rain, focusing her drowsy eyes on him. He could do little more than reply with a grunt. He watched as she gracefully sat up and motioned for him to come sit with her. He quietly slid the door shut and made slow strides over to her. It would be nothing short of a crime to disturb the fragile silence of the room.

He remained looking at her as he sat down on the floor next to her. Waiting patiently for her to break the silence. "I'm sorry I yelled at you earlier," her gaze shifted to the open window when speaking. "I know I was wrong to get so upset with you. We don't know very much about each other right now, it's like we're tip-toeing around a line we can't see." He watches as she catches a petal in her open palm, moving it gently to feel the softness between her delicate fingers. "I'll give more thought to my actions in the future, I don't want to trouble you." Her grip on the petal stops, they both watch as it floats gently onto the table below.

He can't stand it anymore, the melancholy in her voice and the subdued features on her face. He catches her hand that held the petal in his. She gasps quietly and turns her head to look at him. Before she can ask why he is holding her hand, he speaks, "You aren't troubling me. You're right, we don't know much about each other. I want to learn more about you so we don't have to guess where that line is. I don't want to hurt you. I -I've never done this before, never felt the need to know about a woman. I'm also sorry, I know I can be an asshole sometimes, I was concerned earlier and didn't show it in a good way. I'm sorry if I hurt you." He closed his eyes, not willing to see the look on her face.

"Laxus?" He hesitantly opened his eyes to look at her. She had a breathtaking gentle smile on her face. He hadn't seen that smile yet. He wondered what other faces he would get to see on her face. "Thank you for talking to me, I feel a lot better now."

He felt a heat rising to his face. Great. Now I look like a blushing maiden. He feels her move there still connected hands onto the surface of the table. She also has a rosy hue to her face he notices.

The two blondes spent the rest of the afternoon in her room. Drinking more tea, and talking about things that didn't have much importance. He decides that's okay though, you have to start somewhere. Their hands stay connected the whole time, giving a foriegn warmth to each of them. He only gets up to leave after she has dozed off again, gently placing her small frame into her futon and leaving with a small smile on his face. He can still feel the warmth in his hand.

This is so sappy, I know. AND I'M LOVING IT. Let's get these two to start trusting and opening up to one another, yeah?
