Heya everyone!

I call this story an AU of an AU. Because I'm using my favorite OC in another love story with Haku. Just that this is written under a completely different plot. I'm fixing it up, but the AU before this is 'Broken Ice' under my stories and pretty close to the original timeline, for reference. But considering things are a lot different in this story, it's not super important if you don't want to read it!

My OC x Haku stories may be a bit trashy but they're love stories so what can I say? I write for my own joy and the readers. But stories like this are really my imagination going wild and for my enjoyment in writing it. It's so boring for me when ideas Ifeel motivated about sit stuck in my head. I just cross my fingers that it's not all cringe and that I add some interesting elements to the plot. I just got the idea for this story in my head and have been writing like crazy for a few days now. Though, I've been wanting to successfully write something like this for a while.

Hope you all enjoy!

I DO NOT OWN NARUTO. I ONLY OWN MY OC AND UNIQUE PLOT ELEMENTS I ADD TO THE STORY.

I'm a human, in a world also occupied by supernatural beings like demons and spirits. But even as a human, I wasn't born like the others.

I was named 'Hayami,' which means rare and unusual beauty. I supposedly came into the world with features my biological family didn't expect. And at first, my parents were supposedly overjoyed, thinking I was a blessing from the Gods. But soon after birth, my parents abandoned me.

I didn't really understand why until I could actually understand. I couldn't understand how could be thrown away by my parents- rather, how parents could abandon their flesh and blood. When I'd see a child and their parents on the street together, I wondered what made me so different from them. And the answer I was given didn't really bring me any comfort.

I have a mark on the left side of my chest, just under my collarbone. It looks like a snowflake and appears similar to a tattoo. Except, people aren't usually born with such marks. I had no idea... I thought this mark was something 'normal' when it was actually exactly why I was abandoned.

The supernatural sometimes have 'mates' which are dictated by fate. But humans aren't usually compatible with them. We are much weaker compared to them and usually live much shorter lives. That's the basic understanding, at least, but I'm an exception. And there isn't anything anyone can do to change this about me. This mark I have brands me as the predetermined mate to one of these beings. And because of that, I've been seen as a bad omen by any other normal human that's managed to see this mark on me.

I was in an orphanage until the caretaker realized what it was, and then sold me into underground channels the supernatural race- those of the race involved in such activities- ran. And all my life, for seventeen years, it's been bouncing from one master to another. I'm no better than cattle.

The word is that mates are extremely devoted to one another... So where is mine? Why hasn't he come? But then again, that's in normal circumstances. I'm human.

I've heard all sorts of horrid tales of demons with human mates... Do I even want to possibly get into that? It doesn't sound much better than my current situation.

Actually, from what I've been told, it sounds worse.

So maybe I'm just destined to live so miserably; Maybe I truly am a bad omen, even to myself.. Or so, I thought.

But then one day, the front door of the compound I was being enslaved in came crashing down.

For years, Haku had been working more tirelessly than he ever had. Anyone who knew him could see that.

One of the supernatural races, despite having a fair bit of experience in life, even helping to establish the now thriving Mist Village, he looked no older than around nineteen.

After helping his master, Zabuza Momochi, in his dreams, the young man was free to live his own life as he pleased. But no matter which paths he walked on, it was like something constantly had deeply unsettled him. Some piece within him was missing and yet Haku couldn't figure it out. He served him master for years but now it was obvious to him that this feeling had nothing to do with the swordsman. It seemed to even get worse with time.

After a while, Haku had written it off as depression and it would make sense why. Zabuza had practically adopted him when he was left without a home, during a dark time in the Land of Water. His dream was to help his master achieve his dream. And after the swordsman had realized his dream, Haku didn't have the same purpose. He had to find his own dreams and motivations. Haku wasn't used to living for his own reasons.

Then, it was like everything clicked in his mind. He may have had depression too, but the source of his emptiness was from something else entirely. Or more like someone.

Haku was doing desk work one day, now assisting the local government with medical skills he had previously obtained, when he got a vision that literally caused him to collapse onto the floor.

He saw the image of a beautiful infant in his head. One with the mark of his clan on her chest. Then, a name appeared in his vision too. Hayami.

It happened so quickly. One might have thought he had just accidentally fell, but Haku was far from clumsy. He had never even tripped in a battle.

Tears started rolling down his cheeks as he had then realized what had been missing in his heart. The images he had seen he had kept carefully tucked away, repeating them over and over, mentally.

That was his mate.

Haku had heard how emotionally overpowering the experience of being connected to one could be, but it still was a whole other thing to be experiencing it himself. He was someone with lots of self control but now, no amount of self discipline could stop his tears of happiness.

His mate. His.

She was so small but so utterly beautiful and precious in his eyes. It was truly love at first sight and the vision was burned into his mind. And strangely enough, though he himself had a complicated relationship with his identity as a Yuki clan member, he couldn't help but smile to himself at seeing the mark that connected him to her.

But he quickly noticed something in his new love of his life: she was a human. And that realization caused his stomach to drop, though not in a way you'd think.

Humans were so fragile compared to his kind. Oh.. How easy it would for something to happen to her. Even more so because he knew how some humans still viewed this extremely rare connection. His instincts had ignited itself with a need to ensure the fragile being's protection. He could tell she was sadly not of his country from clues he could gather from what he saw.

What Haku would do and give, to be able to personally promise her that duty he had towards her... One day though, for sure, he'd find her. He'd live, for her sake now.

Later on in the years, Haku knew something had happened. He could see flashes of visions when his mate, Hayami, was truly terrified or felt endangered, and he could tell she wasn't with her parents anymore. She was still young, maybe four or five years old, and that sent the young man into a drive to track her down for good.

For whatever reason, whenever he thought he'd found a leave his love was nowhere to be found. Over the years it was the same, even after asking for favors from old comrades.

He'd get more visions here and there, lasting a split moment. He felt useless to not be able to properly protect her as he felt he should have. Though Haku knew their circumstances were not normal to begin with. He still would not stop working to find her, regardless. You only got one mate in life, after all, if you were lucky to have a mate at all.

Now seventeen years after Hayami was born, he knew he was so close to actually finding her again. There was still work and service he'd give to his village but his efforts also allowed him more connections to find Hayami. Some of the visions he saw in her life had absolutely broke his heart. The way her emerald hues would turn wide, filling themselves with tears and fear, as rogue demons gripped his beautiful mate's long and dark locks enraged him. What was even worse and nearly put him in a frenzy was to see the beasts biting into her flesh with their fangs. Haku was disgusted to be considered the same race as them.

The only positive was that these painful glimpses also helped him narrow down her location.

She was currently being kept by a fugitive of his village, Raiga Kurosuki, in the Land of Rivers. On his end, he was trying to organize a mission to capture Raiga and rescue to mate. Unfortunately that didn't mean including the actions of other villages. Raiga had been wanted in several nations beside the Land of Water.

Now getting the last leg of approval, Haku had yet another vision from his mate.

Raiga's compound had been raided by Leaf ninja, and while the fugitive had escaped, they had got Hayami. And nothing would get in Haku's way of being with his mate whom he had been separated from for so long.
