"It's them!" said J'onn as he took a step back with Drake, Superman and Batman taking a vigil stance as the white aliens charged forward and began firing their blasters at them. Drake and the others quickly took cover behind a toppled army jeep but Superman got hit and was sent crashing into a tank. Batman took out a batarang which he threw into the air to unleash a bright flash of light then a smoke screen for some cover.
Drake whipped out Ebony and Ivory and fired back at the aliens, shooting don a few in the process. Drake leaped side to side to avoid the blaster shots from hitting him as he fired back at the aliens.
Upon hearing J'onn let out a pained grunt, Drake looked back to see the alien had been hit and quickly ducked more fire from the aliens. He holstered his guns and unsheathed Rebellion as a few ran at him but nothing a few sword slashes and swings couldn't take care of.
"Red Shadow, get clear!" he heard and looked to see Superman holding up a tank, and Batman helping an injured J'onn to his Batwing to make their escape. Drake ran and leaped out the way as the Man of Steel threw the tank at the aliens which caused a large explosion and enough time to take to the skies for an escape.
"That was close," said Batman.
J'onn however shook his head. "We're not safe yet, look," he gestured to the window for the group to see what appears to be a fleet of the alien fighters which opened fire upon them, especially the Batwing.
"Superman! Toss me!" Drake shouted, getting the Man of Steel's attention before he grabbed his arm and spun around then threw him at one of the ships. Drake stabbed rebellion through it to keep himself on it and fired at the other ships with Ivory in one hand while keeping Rebellion in the other. Drake jumped from fighter to fighter, shooting or stabbing them in the process as he took them down from the air as best as he can.
Drake sheathed Rebellion across his back, took Ebony into his free hand and started shooting with both guns in hand before he saw one of the alien fighters were able to land a shot on Batman's plane to take off one of its wings, sending it careening to the valley below. he was about to go help when he saw a beam of green energy enveloped the aircraft and held it in midair. Drake traced it to a dark skinned man with a crew cut and glowing green eyes as he wears a black and green bodysuit with the symbol of a green lantern on his chest, and he was wearing a green ring which is the source of the beam.
"Green Lantern? What's he doing here?" Drake asked himself with a frown but decided to focus on more serious matters like fighting the aliens off.
A pair of alien fighters were flying towards Green Lantern when someone intercepted and smashed them to the ground. This newcomer was a woman and her appearance made Drake's cheek go red a bit as he looked her over. If one word could describe was angelical, which was ironic because she had wings. She wore a tight yellow and green spandex costume that hugged her large and juicy thighs. Her top hugged her double D-Cup bosom, and when she turned around he couldn't help but look down at her large succulent butt that hugged the suit she wore. Her face was covered by a hawk like helmet with her auburn hair flowing past her shoulders.
'Hot damn... Hawkgirl looks damn hotter in person, and she has one fine ass.' Drake thought before he smacked his head to snap out of it and cursed his teenage hormones. He snapped to attention upon seeing the winged woman get knocked down to a ledge from an explosion courtesy of the alien fighter and was about to move in to help when again someone landed before her in defense and this one caught his attention the most and made him blush harder than Hawkgirl's appearance caused. Her suit was not exactly what you describe as…..kid friendly but Drake wasn't a kid. In fact he couldn't help but stare in awe at her beauty. One word was the only way he could describe her:
Beautiful.
That was all he could think of when he stared at her. His cheeks burned, reaching all the way to his ears as he stared at the woman. He swallowed the lump in his throat, trying real hard to keep his jaw tight and not to let it hang open. Drake was in awe as she used the bracers to deflect the incoming shots from the alien fighter before sending them back at it. Drake saw that the aircraft was about to crash into them and quickly reacted.
He leaped off the alien fighter he was on and slashed through the aircraft about to crash into the ladies and he landed without pain or even a wince/flinch as he shouldered Rebellion before he gave a two fingered salute to the two surprised women then went to join Batman as the Flash arrived, holding the blown off wing of the Batwing with a smirk on his face.
"Hey Bats, I think you dropped this." He said before he then noticed the raven-haired woman and like Drake, was awestruck by her beauty so he placed the wing in Batman's hands much to the Dark knight's annoyance and Drake's amusement as he snickered. "Whoa, where have you been all my life?"
"Themyscira," she replied bluntly, not getting the meaning behind his words.
"Huh?"
Then Hawkgirl spoke up as she landed with Green Lantern and J'onn. "The home of the Amazons, I always thought it was a legend,"
"I assure you, it is as real as the ground we stand. I am Diana, princess of the Amazons," said the now identified Diana.
"Pinch me, I must be dreaming…OW!" said Flash only to be elbowed lightly by Superman.
"Themyscira is protected by the gods, but I could not stand idly by while the rest of the world is in danger," Diana continued to explain.
"it was lucky you showed up when you did." Superman said.
"No." J'onn said, getting everyone's attention. "Not luck. I telepathically summoned them."
"Look, I'm usually pretty quick on the uptake, but will someone please explain what the heck is going on?" The Flash asked, wanting answers to what is going on and this invasion that happened.
"Gotta agree with fast boy here." Drake said with his arms crossed.
"Who's the kid with the sword?" he heard Green lantern mutter to Superman who shushed him. Drake didn't notice Diana watching him closely.
'Every time I look at him I just feel like the Gods are trying to send me a message, like I should know this boy. But why?' Diana could not figure it out, it was like trying to outsmart the Gods, impossible.
'Nice sword. He must be strong to lift it.' Hawkgirl thought as she looked over Drake's sword across his back. he must be pretty strong, and as a Thanagarian she knew hidden strength when she saw it.
While Superman used his heat vision to repair the loose wing to the batwing, J'onn explained the situation to the newcomers who listened closely.
"So you came from mars to warn us?" Diana asked once J'onn finished explaining, getting a nod frim the Martian.
"This is just too weird." Flash shook his head.
Drake snorted. "I've seen weirder than humans think possible."
"Such as?" Flash asked, a curious look under his mask.
"Supernatural monsters." Drake shrugged.
"Wait, you mean vampires, werewolves, banshees exist?" Flash asked with wide eyes. "I find that hard to believe."
Drake gave him a look and gestured to the resident aliens of the group. "Aliens exist and you find supernatural monsters from Earth folklore to be hard to believe?"
"Well... I... um.. when you put it like that..." Flash chuckled sheepishly.
"How do you know these monsters exist?" Diana asked curiously, looking at the teenager.
"Because I've met and hunted them." Drake replied, surprising just about everyone except Batman. "hey, someone's gotta keep humans from learning of the supernatural world or else it'll be worse than anything. Humans do tend to lash out when they can't control something or they get scared."
"He's right." Batman said, having met the likes of Zatanna and Constantine and they have shown that there is a different world that humanity is just not ready for. Plus considering the League of Shadows have a pool that can bring people back from the dead... Batman had come to believe in a few things no one normally would. he also noted the way Drake spoke of humans... like he wasn't one himself.
"Anyway..." Drake looked at J'onn. "Who's the invaders?"
j'onn was silent for a second before he began explaining. "We first encountered them a thousand of your earth years ago. It was a golden age, our Martian civilization was at the height of its peace and prosperity. And then…they arrived, where they came from, no one knew but they were determined to make our planet their own. We Martians were peaceful people and the taking of any life was abhorrent to us, we quickly learned the ways of war. For centuries, the battle raged on, every trait of our once glorious civilization was obliterated. We fought valiantly but the invaders were parasites who fed on our psychic energy, as we grew weaker they grew stronger and even absorbed our shapechanging abilities. Finally, a small group of Martian survivors planned one final desperate attack. Inside their underground stronghold, we unleashed a powerful nerve gas which paralyzed them. The attack was successful…but the cost was dear, I was the only survivor…the last of my kind. I sealed up their citadel to keep them in a constant state of suspended animation. For over five hundred years, I stood over them but then while I was in my hibernation cycle, astronauts from earth unsealed the stronghold and accidentally revived the invaders,"
Flash spoke up at that "Wait, those astronauts never said anything about finding life on Mars,"
"Hmph, some pen-pusher in Washington probably decided that it should be classified information," said Green Lantern with Flash nodding in agreement.
"That or the Imperiums are in control of the Government." Drake suggested, gaining everyone's attention. "I mean if they woke up these guys I doubt their first idea was to thank them….or in this case they thanked by taking their bodies and tricking the Government."
"Yes. With all the Martians gone the invaders had nothing to feed on. They turned their sights on Earth, I narrowly escaped and came here to warn of the coming danger. While I was being held against my will the Invaders sent advance agents to disable Earth's defenses." J'onn explained.
"That's why they sabotaged the Earth's monitoring defense system. So we couldn't detect their activities." Batman added.
"We've gotta stop them before it's too late." Green Lantern said.
"It may already be to late." Martian Manhunter said turning away from them again.
KRA-KOOM!
"What was that?" Diana asked as everyone saw the rising dark clouds near Metropolis.
"It's begun." J'onn answered as the group overlooked the thunderstorm, one voice their thought.
"Damn….I forgot how close Metropolis is to Red Grave City."
"What are they doing?" Hawkgirl asked looking at J'onn.
"The invaders are nocturnal, they want to block out the sun and live in perpetual darkness." The Martian explained.
"Friends of yours?" Flash asked looking at Batman who narrowed his eyes.
"It's no joke."
"What's the big problem?" Flash asked standing behind J'onn. "Can't you just batch up another of that nerve gas?"
"Unfortunately no. The gas can only be made from a rare Martian Plant. I've brought a sample with me but it was destroyed when I was captured."
"...So what's plan B?" Flash asked with a groan.
"We must take out whatever is producing those storms." Diana suggested, seeing taking out their source of protection was a great way to start taking down the invaders.
Lady, this is no job for amateurs," Green Lantern spoke sternly.
Diana turned towards him in anger "We Amazons are warriors born! Want to test me?" Green Lantern was just about to respond when Drake appeared in between them.
"Now's not the time for us to be arguing like this," Then he turned to glare at Green Lantern. "And especially not the time to be picky about whether or not one is qualified to participate, J'onn called us here believing that we're the Earth's best chance of salvation. Merely looking at her, I can tell that Diana has been trained from youth for situations like this, and I've faced far worse than an alien invasion, so we're as 'qualified' as you can get, so don't go judging someone you've just met without knowing them completely."
Diana was quite surprised for she had never expected the young male to come to her defence since she had always been told that men are selfish, arrogant and narcissistic and was prepared for such, but this is definitely a first for her. Green Lantern was a bit put off by what the Cambion said but only frown before walking past them, that's when Diana spoke to the masked teenager.
"Thank you," said Diana. He nodded at her in response.
"Tactically we have multiple objectives so we'll need to split into teams," said Green Lantern.
"According to the news, there's one in Indonesia, Egypt and Metropolis," said Batman, putting away a handheld device back into his utility belt.
Flash zipped over to lean an arm on Diana's shoulder with a smirk "Dibs on the Amazon,"
Diana was momentarily surprised by his actions but spoke up nonetheless "Actually, I would like him to be my partner." she pointed at Drake who was surprised but inwardly felt happy.
"I'm okay with it," he replied.
"SPARDA!"
"They choose the most annoying moments." Drake groaned as all the heroes jumped at the blood curling roar.
"What the hell was that?!" Green Lantern asked glowing with the green energy.
"Oh nothing much... just a demon." Drake shrugged before a tree smacked into him and rolled but Drake stopped it with just one hand. "judging from the strength... berserker demon."
Said demon jumped out the woods and landed not too far away. The berserker demon, or Trauma as they were actually called, snarled as it's eyes locked onto Drake and saliva dripped from it's mouth.
"Sparda..." The demon hissed.
"Well, least it isn't a Hunter demon." Drake muttered as he unsheathed Rebellion and spoke to the heroes. "I'll handle this. Killing demons is what I do for a living."
"i will feast on your bones, Son of Sparda!" The Trauma demon roared.
"So says every other demon that wants me for dinner." Drake said with a roll of his eyes before he gave the demon a 'come at me bro' gesture. The Trauma obliged as it charged at Drake who smirked as he ran at the demon and leaped over it, slashing it's shoulder in the process before he easily dodged it's heavy backhand attack. The Demon Slayer dodged each swing with lazy maneuvers, meanwhile the group of heroes were watching in awe. Batman had to admit this kid was quite impressive to dodge at those speeds, but he kept his emotions in check as he studied the kid…..as much as he could. He was skilled but he had to admit the kid was a blur. Diana on the other hand was shockingly impressed with how this boy, a Son of Man, could avoid this creature of Tartarus. Clearly he was no ordinary man, nor was he like the rest.
"Gotta admit, kids good on his feet." Hawkgirl said out loud, voicing her opinion. She had seen some impressive warriors while moving across the galaxy but they were not this fast…..or flexible.
"The kid is wasting time that we don't have." GL couldn't deny that this kid was obviously not for looks, but that was for another time as he summoned a microphone. "KID! WE DON'T HAVE TIME TO MESS AROUND! FINISH THIS!"
"I can hear fine without the microphone." Drake muttered as he ducked under a swing. Drake disappeared in a flash of red, confusing the demon as it scanned the area in case that landed.
Then there was the sound of something slashing through the air before Drake landed in front of the demon, his blade coated in blood before the demon's head fell off it's body, which fell down seconds later. Drake looked at his sword and with a grimace he flicked it, causing the blood to fly off before he placed the sword across his back again and looked at the heroes.
"Okay, let's get-"
"Sparda..."
"For fuck's sake." Drake groaned as he turned to see the demon, despite being decapitated, it's head was still able to move and talk. The heroes were disturbed to see the head was still talking despite being cut off the body.
"More will come, half-breed!" The demon snarled as Drake walked towards it and went to a knee to look at it. "Fight many of us as you can, you cannot save this pathetic world from the End of Days. Someday, not tomorrow, not next week, but someday. The Gates of Hell will open upon the Chaos Realm and we will destroy this universe: Armageddon is coming."
"And I'll be there to make sure that never happens." Drake said firmly as he took out Ebony and placed it against the demon's head. "Any last words before i blow your head back to Hell where it came from?"
"Kill me, we will never stop hunting you. Just like your traitorous bastard of a Father Sparda…..and your Whore of a mother."
BANG!
Drake's expression was cold, but his grip on his gun had tightened in anger at the demon's words, the insult it gave about his mother. Drake stood and holstered the gun before he looked at the stunned heroes, well Batman hid his expression better than everyone else.
"Shall we get going?" He asked casually, like he hadn't just shot a demon in the face.
Drake stood beside Diana and Batman hiding behind some pillars, while one of those strange alien walkers trekked across the sand, scanning for possible life. While they were in Egypt, GL and Flash journeyed somewhere in South America, Superman and Hawkgirl in Metropolis. Drake looked watching as lightning danced across the clouds, worried if the same was happening in Red Grave City.
"Hiding like cowards is not the Amazon way." Drake looked at Diana who was talking to Batman. J'onn was currently scouting for them.
"They must have a weakness, when we find one we'll strike." Batman stated scanning the area.
Diana huffed before looking at Drake who was keeping an eye on their surroundings in case they were ambushed. She recalled what that demon called him... the son of Sparda. she had thought she heard wrong the first time, but considering the demon kept speaking of him and called Sparda Drake's father... it stunned her and made her curious. She of course knew the tale of Sparda, her mother read it to her when she was a little girl. Of a demon who woke up to justice and betrayed his brethren to protect the Earth and defeated the demon king.
"So, what do they call you?" Diana asked Drake, having not heard his name yet.
Drake looked at her. "Call me Drake, the name I have right now is... a work in progress."
Diana was going to ask him about Sparda when J'onn appeared through the ground and becoming tangible "I have scouted the outer walls, there are no openings,"
"Then we make our own!" Diana took off ahead of the others, J'onn and Naruto were about to go after her when Batman stopped them much to their confusion.
"Wait, let's see what she can do," said Batman.
They watched as Diana took out a golden lasso then quickly descended to avoid a laser blast from the alien walker, she twirled it in midair before throwing it to rope one of the legs. Diana flew around the legs a few times then pulled hard to draw them together as it lost its balance and smashed into the wall of the factory, leaving a gaping hole.
"There's your opening!" said Diana before flying inside.
'Damn... that was kinda hot.' Drake thought before he shook his head and they followed after the princess and found her deflecting laser fire from the aliens with her silver bracers before running deeper into the factory. Such action was rather displeasing to her.
"They run like cowards, what are you waiting for?!" Diana flew in pursuit with J'onn close behind.
"Batman, did you notice it too?" Drake asked, getting a nod from the Dark Knight. Both noticed how the invaders avoided the sunrays like their very lives depended on it before following after them.
After a few minutes of traversing the place, a maze at this point, they were once again surprised attacked by the Imperium foot soldiers.
"They blocked us off again." Diana said reflecting the shots with her bracelets.
It's almost as if they know what we're thinking." Batman said pulling out a Batarang and throwing it at the group of invaders. It exploded upon impact scaring them off, leaving the group alone. "Any ideas J'onn?" Batman asked but noticed that the Martian eyes were glowing. "J'onn?"
"Superman and Hawkgirl are down. They have failed." J'onn informed after his eyes stopped glowing.
"What? Are you sure?" Diana asked concerned, J'onn nodded.
"Well... shit." Drake couldn't help but say.
"This way, hurry!" J'onn flew through a passageway with Batman and the others following close behind, they hurried through winding tunnels as the openings were sealing themselves to obstruct their path, which meant the place had to be alive somehow. Diana and J'onn flew up to an opening above them while Drake jumped and Batman used his grapple gun.
"We lost them," said Diana.
"For the moment, they'll eventually find us in here," Batman put on a pair of brass knuckles charged with high volts of electricity.
J'onn spoke up "Look," the group turned to see that they're in a large room which has several aliens moving about and operating on multiple control panels, and at the center is some sort of chamber which has a red crystal floating inside it "It's the central core,"
"How can we shut it down?" asked Batman.
J'onn pointed at the red crystal in the chamber "the ion matrix crystal, if we can remove that, we'll shut down the whole plant. I'll need a diversion,"
"Consider it done." Drake said as he took out Ebony and Ivory, firing both guns and striking a pipe which spilled out black liquid on a pair of aliens below. Diana herself pulled out a pipe to release a thick smoke in addition to the mist. That was more than enough for J'onn as he turned ghostlike and phased into the ground and head towards the crystal whilst Drake, Batman and Diana kept the aliens busy.
J'onn reappeared near the chamber and quickly grabbed a distracted alien and tossed him over the edge to the ground below, then he went to grab the red crystal and take it out of the chamber. Suddenly the entire factory began to quake with parts of it exploding, however J'onn was unaware for a white alien appearing from a ledge above and shot him with its blaster, he let out a cry of pain and fell to the ground along with the crystal.
"J'onn!" Diana quickly knocked away the surrounding and quickly flew over to him.
"Get him out of here!" Batman called out as he punched an alien with his electrified brass knuckles.
"We'll cover you!" Drake added as he fired with his guns.
Diana nodded in affirmation and quickly flew away from the fight, however one of the aliens pushed a button on the nearby control as the passage ahead began to seal itself up. Batman used his grapple gun to catch up with them whilst grabbing the crystal along the way with Drake still shooting as he ran. Diana and J'onn barely got through with Drake and Batman being trapped on the other side.
"Crap." Drake said as he and Batman turned to see the aliens pointing their guns at them.
"Drake! Batman!" Diana realized that they didn't make to the other side and was rushing back to save them, but as she got close, there was the sound of laser fire with the wall bulging several times…and then there was silence "Nooooooo!" her eyes widened in disbelief at what had just happened and still wanted to go and help had it not been for J'onn stopping her from going any further.
"Wait! There's nothing we can do more for them!" said J'onn.
"You mean they're…" Diana couldn't bring herself to finish the sentence.
"…gone," J'onn finished for her with sadness.
Diana could only look back at the sealed tunnel with sorrow, especially for the young warrior who was friendly and cooperative unlike the stories of men which her mother would tell her of.
"Hera, help us..."
And that's it for this chapter everyone. I was planning on letting just Drake be trapped and thought dead... but decided to have batman in place as original. Next chapter will be the final one in the Rise of the Devil arc. I'll need to plan the other arcs as well and not just the ones involving the show.
