Eris, thanks for the review. Yes, it's very difficult to explain. Image what would have happened if Arthur and the knights had connected the dots and figure out Kara was speaking about Morgana. Obviously, they didn't.
Thank you to all those who followed and favourited my story. I'm looking forward to finding your opinion about the story as well. Feel free to write everything you want in the review section.
This is a chapter most of you have waited for. some of you are going to be a bit disappointed as you already knew it. Anyway, I still have some surprises for you.
The new habitant of the Land of Fire and Ice
Morgana woke up. At first, she studied the surroundings. The witch couldn′t remember the events of the last days. She only remembered that she was about to find Emrys, but what had happened next was a mixture of feelings and images Morgana couldn't find a sense in her mind. Though, she knew that whatever she remembered was quite terrifying.
The High Priestess had never felt so vulnerable, so powerless, so confused. She breathed in, trying to calm herself. And then there was that strange dream about Merlin.
He was there. Most of the time. He had been quite friendly with her. He'd read to her. The High Priestess didn't remember a thing he'd said, but it had made her feel warm and cozy. Yet it was only a dream. One of the very few nice dreams she'd had in her life.
She studied her surroundings. It wasn't the pit from Sarrum's lands and that gave her a sense of comfort. In fact, it looked like she was in an old, stone room. Probably, it was somewhere in a castle or a tower. The room seemed clean, but there was hardly any furniture. She was completely alone, but she could hear voices coming from outside. She looked through the window. There were people working outside. She saw children playing on the green fields that surround the castle and women carrying water inside. What really shocked her was to see some type of small dragons carrying stones.
At first, she thought those dragons would attack the citizens. Not only they hadn't had any bloody agenda, but none of the citizens was actually afraid of them. She opened the door and started to scan the corridors.
Suddenly, she remembered meeting Emrys. The witch had the slightest idea where she was or how she'd ended up there, but she felt fear growing inside her. She wondered if he was there. Every face she saw seemed like a threat to her, but she was too proud to let them see.
Eventually, she stopped a group of noisy women and asked them where she was.
"You're in Elmet." answered a young woman, dressed in a long dark-green dress. The fabric didn't seem very expensive, but it was neither the dress a peasant would be able to pay for.
"Lord Emrys had invited us here." continued a blond woman around the same age as the first. "Magic is free and we will never have to fear execution again," he continued.
"Lord Emrys…" Morgana muttered. The other woman added something, but the witch didn't register what they said. Everything she could think about was that her mortal enemy was close.
"Are you alright?" One of the women asked her as she noticed the witch wasn't paying attention to them any longer.
The three women were sisters. Their younger sister was the only one who'd been able to perform magic, but their lives had hardly been much easier than hers. Their mother had died shortly after the small girl had turned five and since then they had been on their own. The older one hardly remembered their father. Uther had him executed when the old one was only five and the youngest was still a little nothing in her mom's womb.
The three sisters had been there only for a few days. At first, they'd been scared. They had known no one there. There were hundreds of people waiting to cross the bridge, but not a familiar face among them.
They had left their houses and lands in the hope of a land where they would finally be free. They had taken with them everything they had. Many of them had nothing or little. Yet they were welcomed there no matter their status or wealth. None cared if they had magic or not. Many no-magic parents had come there because one of their children had magic and they were afraid for their lives.
Then, they'd noticed the smiling face of Arthur's servant in the crowd. They'd heard so many things about him. The youngest had a crush on him for a very long time. She'd kept going around the castle every morning only to see him accompanying Arthur to the training grounds. Well, she had never dared to speak to him, but she'd dreamed so many times about the moment when she would find the courage to say "hi" to him.
Merlin had smiled at them as he'd recognized them, but he passed by preoccupied to explain something to his companion, a young dark-haired man they recognized as being one of the knights of Camelot. They'd seen him once or twice since they'd come to Elmet. He'd even asked them if they needed something, but Margaret- the youngest- was so overwhelmed by the moment that she harshly threw a "no, thank you", ruining everything. She'd cried for hours after that incident. But eventually, they got used to their new life as everyone else did.
There was a lot of work to do: houses to build, lands to plant with crops and vegetables, food, and animals to buy from other kingdoms. Yet some had magic and it went faster than usual. And they were all working together.
It was a blessing to see the kids, who had spent all their lives hiding in fear, playing freely with magic on the field. It was a true blessing to see how much the deserted fields from Perilous Lands had changed in just a few days. They were now covered by fresh grass and lovely flowers. The water was crystal clear and the forest was no longer a frightening place, but a kingdom for wild animals and mushrooms as well as berries and different types of forest fruits.
However, Morgana did not share their joy. The name of Emrys sent shivers on her spine and so she ran for her life. She ran as fast as she could, not caring if she got scratched by the thorns of the wildflowers or by the branches of the trees. She fell numerous times. She was bleeding all over her body, but she didn't have time to think about it.
Many eyes spied on her from the forest. She'd noticed the fur of something that looked like a tiger, but it was made of mud. The tiger watched her from a distance, but eventually, it ran away. Then, a foal emerged from a lake she'd passed by, scaring Morgana. His body was completely transparent as it was made of water. It was the most beautiful creature she'd ever seen in her life. She looked at the sky and noticed a fire-dragon dancing over the forest before flying away. She also noticed a fairy hiding under a big mushroom. Yet she was too scared to register all the beauty that surrounded her.
It was almost dark when she arrived at the gates of the city. The wall was too strong and too high for her to destroy or climb while the gates were well guarded.
Morgana took a deep breath. No matter how much she tried, her magic wouldn't return.
Nevertheless, she gathered all the strength she felt capable of and went directly to the gates. She told the two guardians that she wanted to go out, but they seemed not to have heard her. They just crossed their spears in front of her signaling her to return. Truth be said, they hardly look like ordinary soldiers. She watched them insistently. She knew them. Soon the witch realized where she had seen them. They were the Knights of Medhir.
