Mysterious reviewer, I'm glad you enjoyed it. This is a bit longer.
Merille Marc, it's ok to ask questions. That's how the world has developed, isn't it? Though, I can't give you many details. You'll figure it by yourself.
I wasn't referring to Excalibur. It might work. I didn't think about it and now it's too late, anyway. The sword Merlin mentioned was the one he set the Great Dragon free. The sword he will set the dragons free if he were to manage to see that day, is a new one. Yes, they are chained.
Merlin can command a dragon. How many people are able to do that? That's how he can prove he is who he pretends to be, but it won't be the case. Though, his meeting with his grandmother won't be planed. You'll have an entire chapter for this meeting.
Morgana won't know she is in danger until she literally "sees" the danger. (the answer is at the end of this chapter and you'll have for the next to find out how she's going to deal with it).
The beginning of the ending
Prince Eugene was frustrated. There was no way of finding anything from that woman and her determination made him certain her son was really the Last Dragon Lord.
The man wasn't of much help either. That man was a complete idiot. He'd come with thousands of stupid stories about "the boy", but he couldn't give a single name.
"Blue-eyed, dark-haired, tall and skinny devil" Eugene cursed."How many people would fit that description?" he cried desperately.
He'd been certain there was a new Dragon Lord as soon as he'd heard the story of the dragon turning Morgana's army to ashes. The stories of that from Ealdor, stupid as they were, only confirmed it. That boy was more than an ordinary sorcerer. More than an ordinary Dragon Lord. He was certain of that.
There had been other bloodlines which gave birth to Dragon Lords. King Vasilias had given a part of his powers to some of his trustworthy men and their descendants inherited those powers. But they were weaker and even if they could control dragons to a certain degree, none of them had the power to force a dragon to obey their command.
Morgana had spoken about an old man who had that power. She seemed certain about it. It wasn't impossible for another Dragon Lord to have survived. They had been scattered everywhere around the world and one might have returned to Albion. He could have hatched the white dragon, but commanding a dragon and a Great Dragon above all….There was only a bloodline Kilgharrah would be forced to obey. The Flamouria.
"My Lord," one of his men, an old and greedy scholar said, "I checked everywhere. Every page that has been written about Dragon Lords. And…"
"No one else has that power, is it my greedy friend?" The king uttered.
"Indeed, My Lord."
He'd known it from the start. It only helped him confirm his fears. He was happy the queen hadn't paid much attention to all those stories otherwise she would have realized she had a grandchild.
He'd questioned Arthur and the knights. None of them knew where that old man lived. Well, they weren't in the mood for a chat, but Prince Eugene knew they weren't lying.
Of course, they hadn't. His cousin couldn't be much older than him and if that woman was really his mother he was at least ten years younger. So, the next question was if Morgana was right about that old Emrys. If she was, then whoever Morgana knew as the old Emrys must have used an aging spell when meeting her. So, he could have been just under the nose of Morgana and she wouldn't have realized he was "the old man". It was the perfect cover. Morgana could have never found him because the old man didn't exist. Yet she might be right about something: that Emrys was always around Arthur.
"Thank you, Arthur." The prince smirked, victorious.
"But I didn't help you." Arthur added, confused. If only he hadn't been in that cell and that idiot outside. He would have instantly killed him for what he'd done to Merlin.
"But you had. You've confirmed to me there wasn't such a man. Yet Morgana isn't crazy, is she? You see, she kept talking about an old man who has been frightening her. He even commanded a dragon to burn her army. A bit dramatic, true, but my uncle's ancestors have a very interesting history. They seemed to enjoy commanding dragons and burning people alive. For many centuries, they were invincibles. It seems my cousin really is a Flamouria."
"I hope he will burn you, too." Gwain threw at him.
"But how could your cousin be an old man when Balinor was still young when we met him?" Arthur couldn't help his curiosity. "His son must be…"
"He is in his twenties, Arthur. That's why Morgana failed to find him. He was using an aging spell all the time. Yet, I have to confess I'm amazed. If what Morgana said is true…"
"You're in league with Morgana." Arthur finally registered who the Prince was speaking of. "Of course. I couldn't have expected something else."
"I have my plans with her, Arthur. She's hardly my ally. Just a useful paw. You can go back home safely if you help me find my cousin. Morgana said he'd escaped execution once. It must have been a real shame for the mighty knights of Camelot.''The prince laughed.
"That idiot…" Gwain started as the memory of his last encounter was still alive in his mind. Of course, none of them dared to say anyone about it. Yet he felt the glance of the other knights on him. They were thinking the same thing. "If I caught him I would…"
"Not so fast, Sir knight." Eugene uttered. "I can offer you a deal. You help me find him and I let you go back home."
"What about my servant?" Arthur would have given anything to see that old man dead, but in that instant he didn't know who he hated more. That Dragoon or Emrys or whatever his name was...or that arrogant prince.
"I'll give you a better servant."
"I don't want a better servant." Arthur cried.
"Just think about it. I'll come later. We don't have to be enemies. Your father has done me a great favour by helping me get rid of my annoying uncle. See you later."
For the first time, Prince Eugene felt he'd finally found a lead. The description given by that man would prove useful after all. Now, he had to make Arthur betray his closest ally. Prince Eugene had a feeling that asking Arthur about that dark-haired mysterious sorcerer wasn't a clever move right now. He had to be more cunning and not allow Arthur to connect the dots.
"My Lord," a man interrupted him. "Sarrum has arrived. What should I tell him?" But before Eugene managed to answer a bold, bulky man entered the room.
"You must be Prince Eugene. I've heard you have an offer for me." Sarrum spoke. His voice was strong and firm. "Where is the witch?"
"Welcome, Sarrum. Indeed, I have an offer." The prince answered confidently. "You'll get the witch, but have a bit of patience. First, I need a bit of help to get rid of the queen."
Much as Arthur tried to control his emotions it was clear he was worried for Merlin. And furious. Very furious. Gwen tried her best to make him feel better despite herself being scared and worried too.
The knights were furious. Gwain hadn't stopped cursing that blonde witch and kept pacing inside the cell like a lion in a cage. There was no hope for Merlin and that drove him crazy.
"I'm not going to help that idiot." Gwain cried. "Right now I will join an entire army of sorcerers rather than helping him."
"If only that army of sorcerers would agree to help us." Percival spoke his mind.
"Can't you stop talking?" Arthur let his fury burst out. His knights had kept talking about the old sorcerer and Merlin. And...it was driving him crazy. He needed Merlin to advice him what to do. He needed Merlin to joke about the rats and the old sorcerer and maybe threw a remark at Gwain that magic is banned and so he couldn't join an army of sorcerers. And there were his doubts about that old man..or young if he was really Eugene's cousin. Much Arthur wanted to convince himself the man was evil, he had to admit the sorcerer hadn't done anything against Camelot. Maybe, Gaius was right and the sorcerer's only crime was to not have the power to heal his father.
Morgana smirked as she watched them from a distance. It had been a piece of cake to enter the dungeons.
As soon as she finally managed to control her emotions, the witch realized her brother must have been close. Merlin wouldn't have been there if Arthur hadn't been around. As she knew the queen hated Arthur, there was only one place she could look for her brother: the dungeons.
Her hatred towards Arthur was what had kept her going all these years. She needed someone to blame and she needed it now most of all. Little did she know what part she was meant to play in the events that were to unfold…..
"Hello, dear brother." She uttered in her cold tone. "It seems you've lost your faithful servant. Such a pity. Who's going to help you dress, now?" The witch laughed.
"Morgana." A cold voice uttered her name and the witch turned around only to find a very furious Eugene. "What are you doing here?" He didn't like that she'd found about Arthur. He knew she could speak and ruin his plan. He didn't know how much time Sarrum might need to find the right opportunity to kill the queen. Meanwhile he needed to keep his profile low.
"Stupid woman" he thought.
"Come to visit my brother. Of course." She tried to prove she wasn't intimidated by him.
"How did you know he was here?" Eugene wondered what had given him away. The last thing he needed was the queen to find out. Especially now when he had ended an agreement with an assassin to kill her.
"Arthur won't go anywhere without his servant and his servant will never leave Arthur's side no matter what. Since Merlin was…" She stopped as she noticed Hunith. She was weak and hurt. Two soldiers were dragging her as she had no force to walk on her feet. Yet her eyes met Morgana and the witch felt her pain. She'd like that woman. Hunith had welcomed them in her house and been like a mother with them. The mother Morgana had never had and she yearned so much for. "What are you doing with Merlin's mother?" Morgana cried. For a moment she'd forgotten that Merlin was her enemy and so she wasn't supposed to help his mother. However, her words condemned the poor woman rather than save her. The desperation on Hunith's face made Morgana stop shocked. She knew she'd done something stupid, but she couldn't tell what.
"Merlin?" The prince enquired. There was a deep silence. "Who is Merlin?"
"Arthur's servant." Morgana uttered mechanically, but her mind was far away.
"The one I gave to the dragons, isn't he?" The prince continued.
"The dragons!" Morgana uttered in shock.
"Blue-eyed, dark-haired, skinny and tall, isn't he?" Morgana nodded. "From a little village called Ealdore." Morgana nodded again. "Damn it." The Prince cursed and he threw his dagger right to Hunith's chest. "Found him. Now." He ordered his men. "I want him DEAD."
Don't hate me... The next chapter is going to be...very intense.
