The night attack…
What the fuck we're still at least an hour early Philip thought we need some kind of distraction to turn them away out loud "Floor it! we have to get back before they get overrun." Opening the glove box where I had seen come CDs earlier I grabbed the first one without looking and pushed it into the player turning the sound all the way up "hopefully this distracts them." I say as the disk reads
The sun was just setting….in the show it was well after night. Before anything else the disk finished and started playing.
CANT TOUCH THIS! A thunderous thumbing guitar with some piano thrown in CANT TOUCH THIS torn between looking at the second S curve and at my mom's favorite song blinking away the tear forming I can't think of my old life when I have this one to think of now.
As we fishtailed around the last bend and came into sight MC HAMMER calls out at the max volume STOP HAMMER TIME just as someone climbed up on my Humvee and let loose with the '240
BABABAM BABABAM BABABABABABABABAM oddly in time with the music a detached part of my mind though as the convoy slams to a shop crushing several of the walkers who had turned toward the blasting music
As we jumped out it was almost over with only the odd gunshot here and there aiming my rifle I put a walker down with a three-round burst to the face and head FUCK the goddamn selector switch with my thumb I move the lever down to single-shot putting another round into a walker coming up behind dale.
"Is anyone hurt?!" I call out after a series of calls out "im ok" dale…"we are good here" Shane with Lori and carl…."so are we" Daryl with Merle who was un-cuffed holding a shotgun and Morales wife and son.
As I walk up to the RV I see Daryl pulling bolts out of walkers heads Shane and Merle walking around shotguns resting in their hands
"What happened?" I ask as we walk up.
Grunting as he pulls the last bolt out Daryl says "welcome back, yeah they came out of the wood work so far as we can tell we didn't lose anyone if it wasn't for Daryl and all the guns this could have been ba…" he is cut off with a piecing scream everyone went running to find Carol with a shovel holding a walker Ed back while shielding her daughter Sophia.
"I don't have a shot." Called both Merle and Daryl "me either" called Shane
I didn't even stop pushing past Lori and Andrea tackling Ed and driving my knife into the back of his skull the last walker taken care of and the threat is taken care of a headcount was done.
Ed was the only one dead or turned and a total of forty walkers were gathered up searched and then the bodies burned.
With not much else left to do for the night everyone but Rick, Shane, Daryl, Merle, and Morales who would pull guard duty went back to get what sleep they could. Philip set it up so he would have the early morning shift so he could try to get in contact with Morgan. Setting down in the tent next to Lori, Carl was already asleep she quietly attacked me and we made love for the second time. They fell asleep in each other's arms.
The next morning came quickly as I and Morales geared up I pulled out the walkie and started calling out to Morgan but with no reply telling him to avoid Atlanta the refugee center is gone after a moment of silence I told him to take care and to stay safe.
Turning the radio off after a minute I head back to camp to see a few more walkers being thrown onto the fire. Alicia and Andrea are standing over by the RV looking very different wearing some of the Army uniforms from the Humvee complete with combat harnesses Shane was showing them how to use the M16s in their hands.
Merle, Jim, and Daryl were off by themselves keeping an eye on the woods also dressed in camo looking at everyone dressed and equipped the way they should have been in the show it was nice. How come when people make zombie shows they literally do the stupidest shit I thought shrugging. Everyone else was at the vehicles we had parked when we came skidding into camp last night.
Dale, Glynn, Bob, Brandon, and Even were hard at work stripping the Jeep, Crown Vic. and the Box truck of everything that could be used emptying the tanks loading all the tires, belts, hoses and everything else into the Titans bed and water trucks lockers anything else that wouldn't fit was being strapped to the top of the RV.
As everyone sat around the cook fire drinking cold water, soda, and Gatorade snacking on slim Jims, and vending machine food. As Carol, Alicia, and Miranda, Eliza were cooking up some of the canned food we had brought back from the look of cans breakfast would be a stew of Potatoes, corn and green beans.
"Ok everyone we need to come up with a plan. Last night showed us the walkers are moving up and out of the cities in search of food. So we need to get away from cities and their populations of walkers." I announced
"But…where would we go? We are doing pretty good here look around we could do this for a long time" he continued to speak as everyone looked around seeing the small parking lot of vehicles the totes and crates of food and drinks the three Humvees now mounting a pair of 240a and a .50 "we have guns and every time we go into the city to find supplies we kill a good score of the walkers if we kill enough of them we could.." but Dale stops as Shane waves his hand
"Whatchu seem to be forgetting Dale, is we don't have enough bullets to handle every walker in the city Rick and his team hit every army and guard checkpoint they could even with all that…" everyone looks down catching on to what he is saying.
Grateful for the help I nod at Shane "that's right so the way I see it we have two options: one, we go to the CDC this is a biological nightmare if anywhere could stand it would be where they might have a cure or a vaccine or at least be close to one. And two Fort Benning it's the largest military base in the area if I remember right it had over a hundred thousand troops stationed there. They have everything we need food, medical, and security…" Shane corrects me" Hundred twenty thousand and its also a hundred miles away"
I nod again "that's right the most important thing is for us all to stay together strength in numbers I think it would be best for a majority rules situation so if you want Benning raise your hand.." Shane, Bob, Brandon and their families all raised their hands for a total of nine "who want to go to the CDC?" everyone else raised their hands ….twenty-two "ok its decided was going to the CDC."
Some people looked upset but they couldn't dispute strength in numbers not to mention the thought of a vaccine a bite wouldn't be a death sentence you could almost see it in their eyes the loved ones they had all lost from bite wounds.
"Its decided then we will leave first thing in the morning so get your vehicles ready and draw some more ammo and fuel if you need it. But most importantly rest." I finished
The rest of the night everyone has a quiet day of rest and relaxation intermixed with a couple a patrols in order to save ammo the fourteen walkers they found in groups of two or three were put down with bows or axes.
The next morning I again try to reach Morgan but with no reply as we got ready to head out new problem arose. Morales sprung a surprise they weren't coming, they had family in Birmingham. We nodded and made sure they understood. They wouldn't have any backup. They could hold on to the M16 and given an extra shotgun with a box of shells and a pouch of loaded magazines for the rifle. To give them a chance to join up tater they wanted too "if things don't work out come to King county. When I left there was a man and his son Morgan and Duane it was mostly deserted. Every thirty days ill find a way to get within walkie range so listen to me channel forty at mid-day"
They understood and we gave them a honking salute as the convoy turned toward the CDC:
Three Humvees
Dales RV
Titan pickup
Chevy truck with motorcycle
Burger food truck
tow truck
Tool truck
water truck
Shane's jeep
And Morales in their extended Suzuki jeep headed in the other direction toward their family in Birmingham.
The drive took nearly eleven hours with several dead ends. Stopping to use the tow truck to move the truly astronomical number of cars out of the way where they could. And each time they stopped Rick Shane and surprisingly Merle started training anyone who wanted to learn which was almost everyone, how to cover their areas of responsibility, keep an eye on their surroundings, and generally keep their areas clear. They had lost the titan truck as it ran over an open manhole cover dislodging its driveshaft. But to replace it was an ambulance attached to the tow truck, since its cab had been smashed in a head on collision, leaving the majority of the cabin intact.
But they had finally made it pulling up to the blocked off street in front of the massive CDC building. As we piled out rifles raised we were struck by the number of dead bodies this was ten times bigger than my little zombie carpet. Soldiers, police, and security clad uniforms lay sprawled everywhere almost three times that in civilian clothes lay sprawled everywhere Damn I thought in the show it looked bad but seeing it in person.
"keep your eyes up and alert!" I called out. Snapping everyone back into focus we started moving across the road and lawn covered in bodies keeping the children, Kyra Carol, Starsha (Bob's wife) Jessy (Brandon's girlfriend) Laura (Jessy's mom) inside and surrounded. As we moved anyone with a sling on their weapon slung the gun across their back scooping up another from the dead troop's hands quickly pulling magazines from harnesses and stuffing them in anywhere they could vest pants pockets. By the time they reached the doors, almost everyone had at least three rifles slung and another in their hands.
Knowing that doctor is inside me and Shane start pushing and lifting on the metal grate blocking the door.
"there's nobody here" T-dog said
"yes there is or else why would these shutters be down?" I called back
"walker here" Daryl called out pulling the trigger sending a single round downrange through the skull of a walker in a guard uniform looking back at the door as calls of walkers followed by a single round fired but the calls and rounds were coming faster slamming my hand on the gate "Come on OPEN UP!" I yell.
"Come on man, there's nothing here man Benning is still an option" Shane angrily called to rick
Daryl, Brandon, Merle, and Jim all called out that more walkers were coming they needed to get the hell out of here leading the group backward back toward the vehicles when the camera moved to track me "NOO! look the camera!" Shane looked and saw the camera move too "it's automated man come on" but I knew better slamming the door again against Shane trying to pull me back.
"Open up if you send us away you're killing us please we have women and children please!"
Shane got the better grip and started to pull me back just as the door rolled up bathing them all in bright light.
Hope you enjoyed it and because no one at the camp died and we know they lost a lot of people I had to introduce more people like Bob Brandon Starsha (Bobs wife) Jessy (Brandon's girlfriend) Laura (Jessy's mom) to fill the numbers of people that had died since we never knew their names and Kyra one of my reviewers if you want your name to be thrown in please review or if you don't have a person's username please review with a name I will use
SomeDude xP I hope this worked out to your liking
