"Fucking bullshit," Daniel stated when they told him he had to get checked out by a doctor. However, the threat of calling Big Bro was used and there he was in the medical bay.
It wasn't that he was scared of Tony. No, Daniel has faced worst people. He just wasn't in the mood to be coddled. After, Tony has been on his ass these last few months during his sobriety, which wasn't fun. So, Daniel did what he was told.
Being sent to the medbay was completely boring. There was nothing interesting nor fun about being send to "the nurse's office". It's not like Dan was dying. No, he just needed a slip that proved that he was fit to get back to work, which sucked. The doctors had to check Daniel about the burns, cuts and the bruises from the mission. The man waited to be cleared. As he waited, he listened to some music.
"Looking out, on the morning rain,"
Daniel kicked his feet from where he sat, on the examination table, loving the sound of Aretha Franklin in his ear, watching the doctor write down their report on Daniel. The doctor's office was nothing special. It may have to do that it is a SHIELD office. The walls were a light shade of grey, one window and a desk in the corner, which is where the doctor currently sat by.
Dude was taking long. Out of boredom, Daniel began to analyze the doctor.
He looked to be in his late thirties, perhaps early forties. He had black hair, but no doubt that it was dyed to hide gray hairs. He wore a Cartier watch, one that has just come out. It was gorgeous. SHIELD couldn't pay that well to be able to get that type of watch, so the man must come from old money. Shoes were expensive as well, Louboutin. Daniel saw the red bottoms as the doctor walked around.
If this doctor is so well dressed, then it is safe to say that he is new to the job, whether it be being a doctor or a doctor at SHIELD.
Daniel moved slightly forwards to get a peak at the man's name, since he didn't really pay attention when the man introduced himself. Daniel only noticed that he was arrogant and a bit judgy. He was able to see the name on the white coat.
Dr. Richard KellerHa, his name is Dick. Well, it certainly fits him.Let's see, what else is there to know?
From where the Doctor typed, he could see a tan line of a ring on his left hand. So, he is divorced. His partner is the one that left, because no one this arrogant would have left their partner when they pay too much attention to themselves. Their partner's would not be their main priority, so why bother getting a divorce when you don't even think about them?
"Well, Agent Stark," Dick began as he turned away from the computer to look at Daniel. The patient simply plastered a smile on his face as he looked at the doctor. His eyes lit up when he saw something white in the corner of Dick's nose. Ha, druggie as well. "You seem to be well, overall. The blast didn't hit you that badly. The burns you have are second-degree, but they should heal nicely in about a month or so. The cuts aren't deep, so no need for stitches. The bruises will go away on their own."
Daniel had gotten burnt from the blast along his lower back. He got treated on the aircraft, but he still needed to be cleared by an official doctor. The cuts were from the glass, and they were on his right hand. That tech that Tony gave him protected his left hand from that. For that, he was grateful. However, there is no need to inflate Tony's ego about it, so Daniel was going to keep his mouth shut about it.
"Awesome," Daniel nodded with a grin,"Now, am I able to leave?"
"Yeah, I am just going to finish writing my notes."
Daniel kept that smile on his face, especially when something came to mind. He reached forward and grabbed Dick's left hand. "Thank you, Doc. I know you probably have a lot of people to see, so thank you for your time. If you need anything, tell me," Daniel said as his hand rose up to Dick's wrist as he spoke.
Dick smiled arrogantly and nodded, "No problem at all. Maybe getting me into those famous Tony Stark parties," he laughed and Daniel joined along before dropping his hands down to his lap. Standing up, he slipped his hands into his pocket.
"I'll see what I can do."
With that, Daniel was off to speak with Fury. He walked past a few agents along the way, nodding and smiling at them politely as he walked. He slipped his hand back into his pocket and took out the watch Dick wore. A giddy smile grew on Daniel's face, as if he were a child getting a new toy.
He did miss this.
If he can't steal famous paintings or jewelry, he can steal from dicks like Dick. He did wonder how long it would take Dick to find out that he was missing his watch, and he wondered whether he was going to report it. Dick seemed like the type to either confront Daniel or rat him out, mostly the latter. Well, Daniel does have a few things on the Doctor that will keep him shut if he were to say anything.
No matter, right now he has a new watch to flaunt around.
Daniel placed the watch over his right wrist, seeing as to how it would look on him. Who was he kidding, everything looks good on him. With that final thought, he slipped the watch into his pocket before heading to his destination. After the mission, he is supposed to go talk to Fury.
Steve and Nat write a report about how he acted during the mission, and they send it to Fury. Daniel doesn't really see the purpose of it. Since, it was Fury that wanted his ass in the organization. It was stupid. Daniel felt like a kid, even though he is in his thirties.
"You asked to see me?"
Daniel stepped into Fury's office with that same cocky smile on his face. Sure, he may be injured, but he was not going to show how hurt he was. He is too proud to show that side of him. No, to everyone, he is the king of the world -- always happy and walking on sunshine bullshit.
Plus, he knew that they wouldn't give him any pain medication due to his history with narcotics. So, pain is unavoidable. Maybe he can score some Oxy on the way out. It shouldn't be that hard to find where the Doctors keep their drugs. He just has to swipe a keyboard and take what he wants. However, it be best at a hospital where they do not have high surveillance.
"Take a seat," Fury gestured to the seat before him. Daniel didn't need to be told anything else as he took a seat, scrunching his face slightly as he felt pain shoot up from his back as he sat down.
Fury noticed it, but he didn't say anything.
"Captain Rogers and Agent Romanoff have already given me a summary about your performance."
"So, I was outstanding, magnificent, talented, completely and utterly fantastic. Yeah, no need to tell me," Daniel smirked as he leaned forwards, leaning his arms on his knees.
"You were arrogant, insufferable and undermined Rogers in front of the Task Team," Fury deadpanned as he kept his attention on Stark. Daniel simply shrugged with pursed lips, as to say It is what it is.
"I was simply giving my oh-so meaningful opinion."
"You opinion doesn't mean jack-shit."
Daniel suppressed a smile as he looked at Fury with amusement. "You know, I was told that taking you in was reckless and just wrong? But I see potential in you. You can be more than some druggie, art thief. However, you are the one that has to work on it, to be better than that person. I can easily let you go back to your old, meaningless life, but I like happy endings. An ending where you are the hero I think you can be."
Daniel was taken back by Fury's words. Him, a hero? It was bonkers. The last five, almost six, years he has been wreaking havoc wherever he went and having fun. He didn't care about anyone or anything. He would have his fun and continue on with his day. No one expected anything from him, and it was good. Now, he has Nicholas Fury, the head of Shield telling him that he could be more.
It was a lot.
Hell, not even Tony believed this much in him. Well, before. Daniel wasn't so sure now given how mother hen Tony was being.
Licking his lips, Daniel shook his head before chuckling, "You are going to be very disappointed."
"You underestimate yourself," Fury stated as he looked at the young man before him. Fury was silent for a moment. Both men didn't speak, just taking in all the information that has been presented.
Sighing, Fury leaned forward and placed his hands together on his desk. "I think you can be the man your father believed you to be. Don't mess that up."
Clenching his jaw, Daniel stood up from his seat and took that as his leave. He didn't need anymore peptalk about being a better man. He doesn't want to be a better man. No, he is happy being who he is: an asshole who does what he wants whenever he wants.
Talking about his father brought back some memories, a few that he didn't want to remember. Like Howard attending his award ceremonies as a kid along with his mother. It was no secret that Daniel was closer to his father than Tony. Tony stood along his mother while Daniel stood by his father. Both children wanting to be closer to the other parent, but having at least one by their side.
It could be that Howard Stark was trying to make up for the time he wasn't there for his oldest, so he did what he could for the youngest.
Daniel walked past a few agents, his mind buzzing with the words that were exchanged with the boss man.
Great, now he felt like shit.
Dragging his hand down his face, he walked out of headquarters and began to make his way to his hotel to rest. The hotel was under SHIELD's name, since Daniel didn't bother with having credit cards or anything these last few years that could leave a trail. It was all in cash or coin, because the last thing he needs is people tracking him down.
He will stay a few more days in DC before heading back to New York. Daniel doubts that there will be anymore action here anyways.
