A/N: The lack of flinx content out there rn is appalling so here I am giving fics that no one's asked for.
Shoutout to Leeful for being annoying af but constantly giving ideas!
Jinx was not having a good day.
With a speed she had never demonstrated before, she swore loudly and slammed her laptop shut. "How the fuck does this type of shit always happen to me?!" She snapped.
Crap, crap, crap she had to leave, the Titans would be here any minute—her brain skidded to a halt immediately—
Shit. It wouldn't be the Titans, it'd be the Hive. Which was infinitely worse than having the Titans catch her.
Unleashing another loud string of curses, Jinx looked around desperately in order to hide the evidence of her tampering, immediately grabbing her laptop before shoving it into her backpack.
Mind spinning like a hurricane, her pink orbs desperately searched around the large hall of the museum before Jinx paused at the indentation in the wall from Kid Flash rudely slamming her against.
Brain skidding to another halt, Jinx stared at it intensely. She could work with this.
…Well, at least getting an A for her criminal drama class back at the HIVE academy would finally pay off.
Police sirens could be heard whirling in the background and the sound of hurried footsteps drew nearer, making their way up the stairs into the room.
"—inx, JINX!"
A soft groan could be heard as Jinx squinted through the lights. Kid Wykkyd and Gizmo were both kneeling down helping her sit up while See-more's brow furrowed as he surveyed the area.
A chorus of "What happened? Are you hurt?" from the team echoed around as Jinx looked around dazed before groaning into her palms.
"Ugh, he got away." She wasn't even acting at this point. She was genuinely annoyed she let her one way ticket home escape.
"Who did?" See-more askes, eye narrowed as he takes her in and Jinx immediately feels a wave of uneasiness go through her at his expression.
"Kid Flash."
The team collectively tensed up while Billy Numerous and Mammoth both groaned simultaneously. "Him, again?"
Scoffing, Billy threw his hands up into the air in annoyance, "What's he even still doing here? Shouldn't he be back in Central city or something?"
Gizmo was still fretting over her and the small boy looked so deeply concerned about her wellbeing that Jinx was pretty sure her frozen heart was thawing over. "Are you okay?" he asks again. "The crater in the wall looks awful, it must've hurt."
Christ, this kid was going to do it for her. If Kid Flash wasn't going to be the one turning her into a hero it was definitely going to be the good version of Gizmo instead at this rate.
What a horrible thought.
Expression softening, Jinx finds herself reaching up to ruffle his hair before sighing. "I'm fine, Gizmo." Her expression hardens, "He stole the opal though."
See-more's face didn't change but his lips pressed into a firm line. "Why were you here, Jinx?"
She opens her mouth to respond but he cuts her off, narrowing his eye in disbelief. "Your magic residue is all over the place!"
Yeesh. They had a scanner for that? Ugh, of course they did. They were the good guys here, what a pain.
Now sitting up properly, Jinx chose to avoid eye contact with the 'leader', instead opting to glare at the empty display case which had once held her ticket home.
"I couldn't wait till the museum responded. I needed to go home now." It's not exactly a lie. Lord knows what the hero version of herself was doing back at home, but she was pretty sure she was dragging her reputation through the mud.
"You're not from this earth Jinx! You can't just do things how you please here!" He snapped, causing the other members to fall silent, eyes travelling between an alternate version of their leader and their second in command as if witnessing a thrilling plot twist in a soap opera.
Well it wasn't like I expected to still be here Jinx thought bitterly.
Still scowling at her predicament, she scoffed. "Does it even matter? Kid Flash stole the stone before I could!"
"Stole?"
Realising her mistake, she backtracks immediately and sighs, raising her head. "I was going to go home and send your Jinx back here with the other stone. It's not like any of it mattered, Kid Flash got here first."
Mammoth crosses his arms, eyebrows furrowed in thought "How'd he even know about the stone? This doesn't make sense."
Kyd Wykkyd looked equally as confused and began signing, "What would he even want with it? He wouldn't even be able to use it."
Jinx blinked at this, racking her brain and replaying their encounter in her mind. "He mentioned Raven wanting it. Said he couldn't really refuse an order from Trigon's daughter." Annoyance bubbled within her and she groaned out of frustration "But what the fuck does she even want with the damn opal?!"
The rest of the team still at her words and See-more turns his head sharply towards her. "Raven was the one to call the order? You're sure?" he presses, tone somewhat urgent.
Pausing at the tension in the air, Jinx nods slowly. Scrutinising the team's reactions towards this new information.
Finally, See-more clenches his fists and says, "We need to speak with Brother-Blood." His tone is final.
The H.I.V.E academy was not where Jinx expected herself to end up today.
Hell—she didn't think she'd ever step foot in her high school again considering the one back on her earth was long gone.
There's a thick wave of nostalgia that takes hold of her as she walks down the halls of the H.I.V.E Academy. It's weird being back. She knows that If she takes a left she'll be on her way down towards the B block of the school, where the training rooms were. If she wanted to take a right, it'd be where the language classrooms where for infiltration and connections.
It's not the same and she knows it.
Her academy was destroyed by the Titans, but this one was still standing and it wasn't fair. She technically was a HIVE academy graduate, not that they had the chance to hold any type of graduation ceremony, but she was still a graduate of the academy none the less.
She remembers her French teacher strangling her throat until she got the pronunciation right. She remembers having to memorise accents perfectly in order to remain undetected. If she kept walking down the stairs to the south wing was where the Dojo was held, if you kept walking it'd be the pool—
She remembers Brother Blood's training facilities, remembers bleeding, and bruising and fighting trial after trial before finally earning her place as number one in the academy. Failure was never an option and yet—when Cyborg infiltrated the academy he wasn't even a villain and he earned first place instead.
It's weird to be walking down these halls. It was her home for a good majority of her life. Jinx had thrived in the school as the top student, she'd mastered it all—
Stealth, infiltration, several forms of martial arts, computing, language, coding, magic—
…So why did it feel like she hadn't accomplished anything at all since leaving?
"Jinx? You doing okay?" Billy's hesitant hand on her shoulder brings her out of her musings and it takes her a second to reboot herself as she remembers just what the hell was actually going on.
Right. Parallel dimension where everyone's switched sides. Lovely.
"Yeah, it's just—our H.I.V.E academy got destroyed by the titans. It's weird being back here." She doesn't see any reason to lie about this particular topic, and she's long since gotten over her anger but they all seem to freeze at her words, expressions of concern and horror mirroring each of them.
"Wait—WHAT?!"
"They did what?!"
Giant hands are on her shoulders now and Jinx blinks as she's promptly met with Mammoth's rather concerned expression. "What do you mean they're going to destroy the academy?! How?!"
She can't remember the last time she'd seen any of her teammates looking this serious. Her heart sort of pangs in response and she can't help but open her mouth and let the words tumble out. "Cyborg ends up infiltrating the academy, he makes some device to disguise his appearance and sort of…joined our team." She outright REFUSES to dwell on their past relationship, because…yikes what a train wreck that would be.
'Yeah, I used to sort of date the guy who turned out to be a fraud and destroyed our school'? No, thank you. Jinx would be taking that knowledge to the grave.
"So what, he just blows up our school?!" Gizmo shrieks, horrified and indignant.
"..It sort of escalates?" she pauses, a small frown on her features as she recalls one of the highlights of her trust issues. "Brother Blood finds out who he is, but offers him a deal. It ends with the titans busting in the academy. We end up fighting them but Stone—" she grimaces "Cyborg switches sides and goes back with the Titans."
See-moor stares, and it feels like the frown on his face is just going to be a permanent feature. "And that's how they destroy our school, don't they?"
Her silence is more than enough, and the rest of the team all give each other anxious and sombre glances.
"My, my. That sounds like quite the adventure." A voice drawls from feels all the hairs on her neck stand as she spins around, wide eyed and becomes face to face with her old principle.
Brother Blood smiles, but it's nowhere near as cold and calculating as she remembers as he lets out a chuckle. "I take it we're in for an exceptional situation." Spinning around, he gestures the team to follow.
"Into my office, children. I fear we have a lot to discuss."
Oh boy.
Jinx is pretty sure the lack of sleep was finally getting to her.
Exhaustion ran deep within her bones but she couldn't afford to close her eyes for more than a second in case she'd actually fall into slumber. She wasn't trying to get her ass beat twice in this god forsaken universe.
Kid Flash winning the stone was traumatic enough.
"Oh my." Brother Blood murmurs, and instinct honed from years at the academy has her back straightening as she sits up in her chair, almost mortified to realise she was slouching and not paying any attention to what was being discussed.
"It seems you've got quite the journey ahead of you." Brother Blood hums in thought. "Tell me child, did the titans from your universe want the stone at all?"
Jinx blinks and she's forced to remind herself again that these people were not the same people she grew up with and that everyone here wasn't on the side of global destruction. It's weird being in this office—this man had been her mentor back in her universe. He'd been the one to take her away from the slums where she'd grown up as being an outcast and a bad omen. He was the one who saw her potential, and brought her back with him to America and moulded her into who she was today at the HIVE.
…But he's not her mentor. This Brother-Blood's expression is soft and welcoming, devoid of the cold, sharp exterior she is used to.
She thinks about her words, mind filtering to what wouldn't make her look like a villain. "We were…fighting in the museum, but the titans weren't aiming for the stone specifically."
He hums in thought and sighs, "Well, I'm afraid either since our Jinx has already used the stone from your world, she's trapped there. Our only hope is if we steal the stone back from the Titan Tyrants so we can switch you both back."
Jinx tries not to snort at the name—Jesus, she was never going to get used to it.
"Getting into their headquarters isn't going to be easy…" Gizmo murmurs, frown on his features as he rubs his chin in thought. "Their security system is crazy advanced. I don't understand where they could possibly be getting the funding from…"
Billy snorts, giving Jinx a heart attack at his lack of self-preservation in front of the head-master but Billy's rolling his eyes behind his mask. "It's obviously all stolen tech. Or they've stolen the money to buy it."
Looking back, the titans have always been generously funded, but Jinx had just thought that was the government paying them for their ridiculously large tower and everything inside of it.
"I mean, I guess some of it is but wouldn't alarm bells be ringing? The stuff obviously isn't cheap so surely we'd be aware of any major bank robberies or tech ones—"
"They're funded by the Injustice league." See-More says drily, "Of course they're going to have the latest security. It doesn't help that they've got a cybernetic genius on their team who probably improves their tech daily."
At that, Billy scoffs, bending down to embrace Gizmo, causing the child to squawk, indignant. "Cyborg or not, he's got nothing on our kid genius. Could Cyborg design and build an entire security system at Gizmo's age? I think the fu—"
"Language, Mr Numerous." Brother Blood stated wryly, "But I must say, can we stay back on topic at hand, gentlemen?" he said trying to steer the conversation back to something that at least resembled productivity.
The fondness in his tone catches Jinx off guard, and it takes her a minute to realise that she's the only tense person in the room, waiting for an attack that's never coming.
She doesn't really know what to do with that realisation.
"I agree." Kyd Wykkyd signs, a frown in place. "Jinx said Raven is the one to want the stone, and she's the only one who can access it."
See-More's hand twitches and it's a trait she recognises it as what her own See-More does when anxious and in thought. "That should buy us some time, right? The stone can only be used once."
"Then she's probably using it for something big." Gizmo pipes in, alarmed. "She's half demon right? What if she does something crazy like try and bring an army of demons over!"
…Well that's a horrifying thought. She better be back in her universe by then if that type of insanity did end up occurring.
"This is worrying." The headmaster speaks up, furrowing his brows in thought. "I'll have to bring this to the attention of the Brotherhood of justice at once." He turns to See-More, and Jinx realises her analysis of him being second in command here is probably right.
…Unless the hero version of herself wasn't the leader. That'd be fucking embarrassing.
"We mustn't take this task lightly. After speaking with the council, we'll hold a mission debrief as to what to do next. Raven being in possession of a stone with that power is of no joke."
The team around here all nod and share murmurs of agreement, and it takes Jinx a moment to catch up.
No one's treating Brother Blood as if he's a threat, and she's re-reminded that he's not the same as her Headmaster.
This one's on the side of good apparently—he isn't just going to force her to fend for herself against an ungodly amount of highly trained assassins in a battle arena because she'd failed her math exam.
Feeling rather overwhelmed, she realises she wants to leave. This was too weird, too much—
It wasn't fair.
"Are you feeling alright, Jinx?" Brother-Blood asks, frowning in concern and her breath starts to hitch because it's like he knows and it's too much.
"Bathroom." She manages to say, chest heaving heavily as she attempted to not look as though she was on the verge of a panic attack. "Please, can I use the bathroom?" she murmurs, hating having to ask but it's so engraved in her in this place.
"Of course." He says, and she's half terrified he's looked into her mind because he gives her a look of pure sympathy. "Do you require assistance as to where it is?"
She shakes her head, getting to her feet and avoiding eye contact with the man and trying not to look desperate as she makes it to the door. "I'll be fine, thanks."
Jinx doesn't turn back to see their reactions when she walks out the door. She knows See-More's scrutinising her and she doubts the headmaster is any different.
Splashing cold water against her face stitches her back to reality almost.
It's laughable how weak this place makes her but she can't help but miss it.
Maybe it was because this school was the closest thing to normalcy she'd ever had—maybe it was because this was where it all started.
Brother Blood had been her mentor. He was the reason she'd become a villain to begin with and she hadn't seen the man in over a year—she didn't even know if her former headmaster was still alive.
He wasn't even the same person, so rationally, she shouldn't be this overwhelmed by the entire thing.
But God—this had been her home. This was where her team had been born.
It wasn't fair that this Jinx still had access to it while hers was destroyed.
"Fuck, this sucks." She mumbles, patting her face dry with a paper towel and frowning at the bags under her eyes.
She doesn't know whether she was referring her appearance or the situation in general, but figures the statement applies to both.
A tentative knock startles her out of her musings as Jinx whips her head towards the door. "Jinx?" Mammoth's voice calls gently, and she's half prepared to snap at him before remembering he wasn't the Mammoth from her world.
God—this was going to get tiring fast.
"You okay in there?" he asks, and she falters at the question.
"…Yeah, I'm coming out now."
Opening the door, she's met with Mammoth frowning down towards her in concern. It's a stark difference from the more emotionally distant Mammoth that she was used to.
"Sorry." She mumbles, finding herself once again avoiding eye contact with him and he just waves her off. "Don't be. I was going to say you could take more time in there if you wanted—it's just, we're headed back to the tower now."
Jinx blinks in surprise at realising she didn't have to wait to be dismissed, and follows the giant down the hallway.
"We're thinking of grabbing lunch at this pizza place downtown, I don't know if you have it in your universe, but their cheese is to die for—" She's pretty sure the pizza joint he's referring to is the Titan's regular hangout back on her world, but nods along to Mammoth's excited ramblings anyway.
The idle chatter amongst students around her as they walked to the exit was different than what she was used to. The atmosphere wasn't tense and filled with mistrust. There was always that looming threat of failure to meet Brother Blood's standards hanging among them, but this world doesn't seem to have that as a few students beam brightly towards her and wave as they pass.
Jinx can't help but wonder how different her life would have been if she had attended this school instead.
It turns out, she was right about the pizza place.
Billy Numerous and Mammoth excitedly whip out the menu, pointing at different combinations with such enthusiasm that Jinx feels a headache coming along.
"The double pepperoni meat feast is to die for here! You can't tell me you guys don't have that in your dimension?" Mammoth says, moving his giant hands around for emphasis.
"I—that sounds like a health hazard waiting to happen." Jinx says, slowly growing more horrified by reading the additional toppings on the menu before Billy snorts, snatching her attention.
"Man, you're more like our Jinx than I thought, she didn't want to try it either." Billy scoffs, but his tone is fond, and she can tell they miss her alternate. She doesn't miss the way they look at her expecting to be someone she's not, she but can't even blame them.
She's doing the same thing.
"Ignore them." See-More says, rolling his eye and reading out a much more appealing pizza option towards her which had both vegetables and meat.
When the waitress arrived and had taken their orders Jinx didn't miss the look of awe and anxiousness the woman emitted. It didn't help that most of these looks were directed towards HER.
"Would you like anything else, at all?" she asks, smiling cheerily while holding her tablet and its insanely jarring to find a civilian this excited to see her when she was secretly a supervillain.
Yikes.
"I'll have a juice box!" Gizmo beaming brightly causing Kyd Wykkyd's lips to twitch upwards as he ruffled the child's hair.
"Of course!" The waitress chirps and took their menus before leaving and Jinx couldn't help the sense of bafflement she felt. "Wait, so who pays?"
They all look at her like she's grown an egg, before See-More finally responds, "Uh, no one? It's usually just billed to the mayor."
Jinx blinks dumbly.
Huh, so this was what it was like to be a hero. Must be nice.
They're all discussing the differences between their universes when the waitress comes back with their food, placing the hot pizzas and side orders in the centre of their table with the same enthusiasm as she had displayed when taking their orders.
"What do you mean there's no mega monkey's 4 in your universe?!" Billy demands, sounding extremely upset about the matter.
Jinx can't help but roll her eyes as she uses a pizza shovel to pick up some slices and put them onto her plate as she recalls how her team had been equally as annoyed at the matter. "Wayne Enterprises bought the company since they went bankrupt and started reinventing it. I think MM4's been pushed back to come out…next year?"
It wasn't like she paid that much attention to video games. If her team wanted to waste time playing instead of training then that was on them.
Ugh. This was exactly why they kept getting beaten by the Titans lately.
See-more chews his pizza slice thoughtfully. "Wayne Enterprises bought the company? That hasn't happened here."
Jinx just shrugs as she picks up her own slice. It wasn't like she was the damn CEO of the place, how was she meant to know what went on in that Billionaire playboy's head?
The team all pause and gauge her reaction when Jinx takes a bite out of her slice. Immediately her eyes widen and she chews more slowly, expression changing from indifferent to shock before finally settling on awe.
"I—holy shit." She gawks, staring down at her food in amazement.
The rest of the team cheer.
"I knew she'd like it!" Gizmo grins happily and even Kyd Wykkyd seemed smug at this revelation.
"What the fuck." Jinx says, eyes wide "What the actual fuck." She repeats "Is there crack in this? There's crack isn't there."
She hadn't even been hungry before they'd come here but GOD, this pizza was probably the best thing she'd ever had since coming to this backwards universe.
"Language." See-more says, rolling his eye but he doesn't seem as suspicious around her. He then gestures to Gizmo whose just staring wide eyed at her, (probably due to her colourful vocabulary) but Jinx is far too invested in her meal to care. She doubts it's the first time the kid's heard anyone swear.
"Just wait till you try the garlic bread," Mammoth lets out a belly laugh, "I guarantee it's just as good."
Jinx's eyes dart towards the basket filled with steaming loafs immediately, mouth-watering.
She's just grabbing the tongs, about to put some slices onto her plate but suddenly there's a loud sound of alarms blaring and the team are on their feet instantaneously.
Jinx stares longingly at the garlic bread but she knows all hope is lost when See-More's shouting the order.
"H.I.V.E Five! Go!"
They're all racing to where Jinx realises is the bank and her expression immediately clouded over in fury—who the fuck was wasting her time robbing a bank?! Hadn't it already been robbed yesterday?!
Did the villains here have no fucking tact? She could've been indulging in the wonders of Italian cuisine but was being forced to play hero because some idiot thought it'd be wise to rob a bank just a day after someone else had attempted a robbery there?
"Who the hell is robbing the bank again?!" Billy snaps, mirroring her thoughts and Jinx wants to yell an 'Exactly!' in response but See-More beats her too it.
"Who knows what criminals think." He scoffs, and the obvious disgust in his tone makes Jinx narrow her eyes in annoyance at the statement.
By the time they make it to the area, Jinx catches the sight of an arrow landed in front of their feet.
…Wait a fucking second—
"Move!" she barks, and for a moment she forgets that this isn't even her team. "Defence position Omega 03!"
Despite this, they all move instantly at her command, ducking out of the way as the arrow explodes, taking the exterior of the building down with it and suddenly, it's like she's back home again as their dodging more arrows.
"Huh. you catch on pretty quick, Pinky." Speedy says, grinning from his position on the rooftops before readjusting his aim. "Guess you aren't the leader for nothing."
Licking her lips, her eyes darted around. This wasn't Speedy's style—never mind that he wasn't an actual villain back on her world it wouldn't make sense for him to rob the bank on his own—
The sight of a flash of red and white through the window had realisation dawn onto her.
Oh for fucks sake, the titans east where here too?
Understanding dawning onto her, Jinx narrowed her eyes at him before they flashed pink and immediately, Speedy yelped as his footing on the roof seemed to collapse, causing his aim to be off.
It was just the distraction they needed. "The titans east are in the bank, H.I.V.E Five, attack pattern—"
"pattern alpha!" See-more finished, giving her an annoyed look and causing Jinx's eyes to flash in irritation at being beaten to her own line but everyone moves at the command anyway.
The fucking audacity.
First she was being pulled away from her food to play hero and now her damn lines where being stolen?
Pink electricity sparked around her as Jinx refocused her target onto Speedy, who had now regained his bearings.
A dangerous smirk tinged at her lips. Well, at least she had someone to take her frustration out on.
A flash of pink is all it takes for the banister he's on to crumble, and Jinx has to re-remind herself that she's playing a good guy now, and playing a good guy meant minimal property damage if she wanted See-More off her case.
Ugh, being a hero sucked.
Flipping away from an onslaught of arrows, Jinx let her training take over. Spinning into the air she unleashed a ray of hexes his way, forcing Speedy to swear and duck out of the way.
She hadn't really had much experience battling the titans east since they chose to primarily operate in Steel city. The most interaction she'd had was with Bumblebee seeing as the two had been former classmates back at the H.I.V.E, but she wasn't really in the mood to battle an evil version of the girl seeing as she didn't really hold a grudge against this one.
Bumblebee had been fairly close to being evenly matched with her back when the two had to fight in the battle arenas, and it had always annoyed the crap out of her that she hadn't wanted to join in on their team at the time.
Her working as a double agent was both a relief and had pissed her off.
Did anyone in that fucking school apart from her actually go there to learn?!
And to make matters worse she had the audacity to date her ex! Or, sort of ex? Jinx made a face, cringing at the memory of going to prom with Cyborg.
Ugh, her life was a fucking soap opera.
"Jinx, pattern delta 07!" Her body seemed to register the command before she did as she maneuverers her body out of the way as Kyd Wykkyd opens a portal beneath Speedy's feet, causing a startled yelp to be heard from the man
Almost rehearsed, her entire body was surrounded by dense energy in her signature pink, eyes flashing dangerously and with a wave of her hand she sent a blast towards the disoriented archer causing him to collapse.
The rest of the team seemed to have finished defeating the rest of the titans east and Jinx had to do a double take at the sight the twins, Más y Menos scowling with their hands behind their respective backs, already cuffed with power inhibitors. Aqualad seemed to be passed out with See-More bending down to cuff him and Jinx felt extremely bizarre to be on the other end of this.
Suddenly, a wave of tiredness finally seems to crash into her as she stumbles on her feet.
"Whoa!" "Jinx, are you alright?" A chorus of worried murmurs can be heard around her but black spots cloud her vision.
Confusion and disorientation take over and she ends up falling into Mammoth's awaiting arms before the world goes black.
When Jinx wakes up in her temporary room in the tower she's mortified to realise she'd slept for a solid twelve hours.
It makes sense, considering she'd been awake for almost two solid days in a row but this entire thing was going to severely damage her sleep schedule.
Then again, it was night time when she'd originally been robbing the museum back in her own universe, and day when she'd gotten here so it was probably going to get ruined either way.
She couldn't really tell the time difference considering she didn't have a phone here, and her HIVE communicator had been dead after the first night.
Still partly disoriented, Jinx stared at her ceiling. "What even is my life." She grumbles, rolling over to hug her pillow, half in exhaustion, and half because she couldn't be bothered to get out of bed yet.
She half wonders if she's allowed to leave the tower on her own. See-more was probably the only one still suspicious over her but she was pretty sure she was going to lose it if it turned out she was going to be baby-sat everywhere she went.
As the previous days replay over in her mind, a wave of frustration rolls over her. Jinx buries her face into the pillow and lets out a contained scream. "I can't believe I'm still stuck here!" she snaps.
God, fuck villain Kid Flash. If she was ever going to see that pathetic excuse of a speedster again she was going to strangle him with his own damn organs!
How was she in a complete different universe and he was STILL a problem? How in God's name did that make any sense?!
Her stomach rumbling momentarily snapped her out of her homicidal rage long enough for Jinx to realise she hadn't eaten since lunch. Staring at the ceiling in defeat, she manages to make it to the bathroom to freshen up before making her way to the kitchen.
She was probably cursed. She was going to have to carry around peppermint leaves in her shoes or something to counteract it just to be sure, ugh. Maybe this Jinx had some counter curses in her room she could use.
"Hey, she's awake!" Gizmo beams, smiling brightly towards her like the sun beaming out of the clouds from his place on one of the kitchen stools.
Jinx feels her lips quirk upwards. Maybe she could kidnap this Gizmo and trade him for the brat back on her team.
…Then again this one was too pure. She didn't think she'd have the heart to turn him into a villain.
"Did you sleep well?" See-More asks, and if Jinx hadn't known him for as long as she did, she wouldn't recognise the softer tone he seemed to be using. He wasn't nearly as tense around her as he had been earlier.
She nods, finding herself taking a seat next to Gizmo on the counter. "I was passed out for like the entire day—I can't believe none of you thought to wake me." She grumbled.
The child next to her shrugs, a hesitant smile on his face. "Our Jinx hates it when we wake her—besides, you were exhausted. We checked your vitals on med-bay and your body's just been over exerted."
Jinx hummed, propping her head on her fist while her elbow was against the counter. That was fair.
"It's actually a good thing you woke up." See-More pipes in, nodding towards the child next to her.
Jinx blinks, bewildered at the sight of a H.I.V.E Communicator being presented in front of her while Gizmo grinned proudly. "Just finished it before you came in!"
Her brain chooses that moment to short circuit. "I—what."
"Brother Blood trusts you." See-More says, as if that made any logical sense. "I won't lie. I had my doubts, considering you're different to our Jinx. It didn't help that you disregarded the team and went on your own accord,"
Jinx opens here mouth but words don't seem to form, so she's just left gawking at this hero version of her second in command like an idiot. "What." She repeats, dumbly.
Its then that See-More offers her a soft smile, "But you earned it after today, Jinx."
Gizmo laughs, thrusting the device into her hands "It means you're an honorary HIVE member! Sure, you're not our Jinx, but we still love you being here!" Jinx tries to come up with any sort of instances which would lead them to come to this conclusion and her brain comes empty.
Jinx could only gawk at the device and glanced at See-More who had a surprising hint of compassion his face. "We're not replacing you with our Jinx," he clarifies. "No one can replace her." Jinx just continues to stare as if her IQ had dropped to the negatives.
Where they serious? They didn't even know her that well!
Rubbing the back of his neck "But you've proven yourself in the field. We're still going to do everything we can to get you home, but until then…"
"You're an honorary member!" Billy finished for him, grinning as he entered the room with the rest of the members and Jinx whipped round to stare incredulously at them too.
What.
"You guys—you've only known me for like a day!" she sputters in disbelief but Mammoth waves her off "What does that matter? You're more than capable."
If possible, her jaw drops even lower.
WHAT.
Mammoth smiled and even Kyd Wykkyd looked pleased while Jinx's face heated at the attention at the looks of approval this team seemed to give her.
"…You guys are so weird." She grumbled reluctantly, but her face lost the roughness it once possessed, a small smile lighting up her features as she looked back down at the sleeker, and clearly more advanced communicator in her hand.
