I've always wanted Adrien to fall for Marinette, because she Marinette, and not because she's Ladybug.
Marinette didn't know what to think when she was paired with Adrien. Of course, she also had Alya and Nino in her group, but Adrien.
"This is the best day of my life," Marinette whispered to Alya.
"With your groups, you will be researching our very own superheroes, Ladybug and Chat Noir," says. Marinette lets out a little gasp. Being paired up with Alya on this project might not be so good after all. She'll just have to be careful.
"You will have one week to complete this project, you can make a video, slide show, or even make a book. It just has to be about Paris superheroes, good luck." The class immediately gets busy.
"It's amazing how we got paired together," Adrien says looking at Marinette.
"Us paired together, as in together," Marinette stampers.
"In a group," he says, still looking at Marinette.
"Of course, in a group." As soon as Adrien turned back around, Marinette banged her head against the table. She, yet again, managed to humiliate herself in front of Adrien.
"Come on girl," Alya says, "You still get to spend an entire week with Adrien."
"A whole week for me to humiliate myself."
"Or confess your love for him," Alya says, nudging Marinette with her elbow.
Nino and Adrien turn around and face the girls. "After school why don't we go to one of our houses to work on the project," Nino says. We all look at each other.
"I'm out of the picture, my father would never allow it," Adrien says.
"Why don't we all just go to Marinette's house," Alya says.
"Is that ok with you Marinette," Adrien asked.
"Think about it, you and Adrien on your balcony watching the sunset," Alya whispers in her ear.
"Watching sunsets with Adrien would be amazing," Marinette says out loud, "I mean having Adrien over at sunset would be amazing, I mean sunset with anyone is amazing, I mean," she takes a breath, "why don't you guys just come over at sunset."
"Awesome thanks Marinette," Nino says. The boys turn back around.
"Father, I would like to know if it's ok if I could go to my friend Marinette's house tonight to work on a school project." Adrien stands in front of his Father. He just got back from patrolling as Chat Noir, when he remembered about the project. He was hoping to talk to Ladybug about helping his friends out with their project, but she never showed up. "It is important to me to be a part of this project," Adrien says. When his father doesn't respond, Adrien starts to lose hope.
"You can go as long as your bodyguard goes with you," Gabriel says.
Adrien floods with relief. "Thank you, father."
"Too bad you can't just show up as Chat Noir and give them all the information they need," Plagg says as Adrien enters his room.
"We probably will have enough information from Alya's LadyBlog," Adrien responded.
"Information on Ladybug, but how much information do you think they will have on Chat Noir," Plagg shoots back.
"Well then maybe I will show up as Chat Noir."
Plagg flys over to the plate of cheese on the table. Adrien has thought of it before. How everyone seems to think that Ladybug is better. It doesn't bother him though. He is just happy to be Ladybugs' partner. Adrien decides to take a shower, hoping to be able to wash the cheese smell from him.
"You sure are looking nicer than most of the time," Plagg says, catching a chunk of cheese in his mouth, "Whose house are you going to again?"
"Marinette's," Adrien responds.
"Isn't that the girl who fangirls over you."
"She's just into fashion, Plagg," Adrien says walking out the door of his room, "And besides she's just a friend."
The week went too quickly for Marinette. Adrien, Alya, and Nino came over every day. They took videos from the lady blog and researched like crazy. Luckily for Marinette and Adrien, there wasn't a single Akuma. Adrien was the movie man since he was used to being on screen. When videos of Chat Noir and Ladybug weren't playing, Adrien was on the screen saying facts about Pairs superheroes.
Thursday was the last day to work on it and the group was frantic.
"Alya I think I might have deleted it," Nino says. While Alya stomps over to Marinette's desk to where Nino is sitting. Marinette and Adrien are left alone on the floor.
"They're such a cute couple," Marinette says.
"Ya Alya yelling at Nino is very cute," Adrien responds.
"That's not what I mean," Marinette says with a laugh.
Adrien loves hearing her laugh. This week had been a blur, but Adrien's been so happy to be able to spend it with Marinette. These feelings have kind of snuck upon him. He still doesn't know exactly what they mean, but they are positive.
"They complement each other so well," Marinette continues, "They can joke around and laugh with each other. Even when Alya yells at him, Nino still knows that she cares for him. I wish I could have what they have. Someone to comfort me when I'm sad. Someone to make me laugh even when I don't need it. Someone that can tell how I'm feeling and why I'm feeling those feelings before I even know why. What they have is special. I've waited for something like that for a long time. I've tried and tried, but the boy wouldn't pay attention. I'm just a friend to him,
+even though I want to be more." There's a long pause, "I just said that out loud, didn't I." Marinette tucks her head between her legs.
"No, it's ok, the girl I loved shut me down for a long time."
"The girl you loved," Marinette questioned.
"I've started looking at someone else."
Adrien looks at her bluebell eyes. He doesn't want Marinette to want all of those things, he wants her to have all of those things. She deserves to be happy.
"Hey, guys guess what, luckily Nino didn't delete the whole thing, just the last clip. So we are going to need to redo the video," Alya says with a smile on her face.
"Hey, Marinette do you want to do it with me," Adrien says holding out a hand to help her up. Alya gives her a thumbs up. "Go for it girl," she mouths.
"Sure," Marinette says reaching for Adrien's hand. Hands still interwind. They record the ending clip.
"What happened with you too, holding hands with Adrien," Alya asks Marinette after they are done recording. The sun was setting to a perfect day.
"I kind of poured my heart out to him," Marinette responds.
"So you confessed."
"Not exactly, I didn't use his name."
Alya shakes her head.
"What happened with you and Marinette," Nino asks Adrien, while they are packing up all the recording stuff.
"Nothing-."
"Don't say she's just a friend."
Adrien looks at Nino, "I can't say that because she isn't, not anymore." He looks at the sunset.
"I have to go ask Marinette something," Adrien tells Nino. He quickly goes up to the balcony where Alya and Marinette and standing watching the sunset.
Alya sees him first. "I think I'm going to go help, Nino." When she is gone Adrien walks next to Marinette.
"Remember on the first day of the project you said that watching a sunset with me would be amazing."
"Oh gosh, you remember that," Marinette says facepalming.
Adrien gives a little laugh, "Well now it's my turn to say that it would be amazing to watch a sunset with you." Marinette looks at him.
"Why now," she asks him.
"What do you mean."
"After all this time of me trying to get you to notice me of more than just a friend, why now."
That's when it hits him. He was the boy that wouldn't pay attention to her. He was the boy that made her not be able to have everything that she deserved. It was his fault.
"This is going to sound stupid, but I had a crush on Ladybug."
Marinette gasped
"It just took me a while to realize that it wasn't going to happen. She is an amazing friend and I guess that's all she'll ever be." He looks at Marinette. "Then I realized that if the girl I loved would only ever be my friend, then the girl that I thought would only ever be my friend, might be more."
Marinette didn't look at him, she just looked into the sunset.
If you have any comments feel free to tell them. Suggestions on how to make the story and my writing better are welcomed. Thank You!
