Mariam Atiyah, wearing a blank expression, followed her parents as they walked down the street towards their new home. She was still in her airplane clothes; a dark blue knee-length with a black jacket and white sneakers. A white scarf sat around her neck, purely for comfort purposes when they were on the plane.

Her father stopped by a building corner.

Dupain-Cheng bakery.

"Want some sweets, Mariam?"

Mariam hummed. "Sure."

The family entered the bakery, and were instantly greeted by a sweet aroma of freshly baked pastries and croissants.

Eyes widening at all the options, Mariam made to go and ask the woman at the counter for recommendations, when she heard a rather loud voice declare, "Yes, what a shame. I heard that they never wash their spoons...a bug fell in the batter once!"

Mariam turned around to see a brunette girl with olive green eyes glancing at the bakery from outside. Another girl was standing by her, and had begun to give the shop a disgusted look.

Huh?

The brunette must have spotted Mariam, because she opened the door and told her, "I wouldn't eat from here if I were you, they are not a hygienic bakery."

Mariam looked back at all the delicious looking sweets, then the girl.

Then proceeded to take out her phone, connect to the Wi-Fi, google the bakery, check the reviews, and found not a single one complaining about unhygienic food. And the certificate of a health inspection on the very back wall, although kind of hidden, still seen, merely added humour to the situation.

"Very funny," Mariam said dryly, before going back to her parents and then ordering some sweets.

Lila Rossi was fuming.

Mariam stepped out of the taxi which dropped her off at Françoise Dupont Highschool. The school seemed pretty large and clean.

Nice I guess.

She noticed another black fancy car stop by her taxi. The door to the front seat opened and a blonde boy with green eyes stepped out, smiling and waving at the driver before closing the door.

Mariam gestured to her taxi that he could drive off, so he nodded and drove off.

The blonde boy spotted the dark haired girl and was puzzled as he hadn't seen her before. Mariam took out her schedule and decided to ask him where her class was.

"Hey, do you know where Ms Bustier's class is?"

She winced at her bluntness.

He assumed she was new, because rarely did anyone take their schedules out.

"Yes, I'm in it. Want me to show you the way?"

Mariam nodded.

The boy led the way inside and through the courtyard, then stopped at a classroom door. Mariam made a mental note to memorize it before he opened it and stepped inside.

"Adrien!" Someone greeted. "You won't believe—who's that?"

Another boy wearing glasses and a red cap paused mid speech.

"I'm Mariam Atiyah. I just moved here from Iraq," Mariam offered. Upon hearing her name, a red haired teacher looked up from organizing things on her desk.

"Oh, yes, we have a new student joining us this year," she told the class cheerfully. "Would you like to say more about yourself, Mariam?"

Mariam shrugged.

"I love sweets and I'm bilingual."

Seeing that that was all Mariam had to offer, Ms Bustier told her to take a seat in the back. (it was an empty desk)

Mariam took her seat with no question.

When Ms Bustier found the answer key to a test in Marinette's bag, Mariam started to get a bit suspicious.

Then Marinette accused Lila of framing her, which resulted in the two being sent to the principal's office.

Mariam raised her hand.

"Ms Bustier, may I use the washroom?"

Ms Bustier blinked, but nonetheless allowed her to go.

Mariam exited the class, and spotted Lila and Marinette walking by the stairs on the second floor, Marinette looking furious while Lila was smirking.

Mariam hid out of sight, behind a pillar, and watched as Lila walked down the stairs, say something Mariam couldn't make out, before yelling in (fake) pain,

"Ow! Ow!" Lila started yowling. Her exclamations got the attention of Mr Damocles, who ran out of his office.

"What's the holdup over here?" He demanded.

Lila winced and lied, "Marinette pushed me down the stairs!

Mr. Damocles looked outraged. "In my office!"

Mariam took that as her cue and took off down the courtyard and up to the second floor. The door had just closed behind the trio.

Mariam raised a hand and knocked.

"Who is it?"

"Mariam Atiyah."

Mr Damocles sighed from inside. "Come back later, I'm busy—"

Mariam threw the door open, eyes ablaze with fury. She glared at Lila.

"That was a very nice act, Lila," she said sarcastically. Lila feigned a shocked expression.

"Wh-what fake act?" She faked a sniffle. "I fell down th-the stairs!"

Mariam pinched her nose and exhaled through her mouth. Then proceeded to yell a few insults under her breath in Arabic.

"Mariam, if you have something to say about the incident, you can quietly wait in here," Mr Damocles told her. "But don't cause a scene," he reached for the phone. "I'll be calling your parents," he nodded at Marinette and Lila.

Ten minutes later, Tom and Sabine entered the office, though no others.

"I am unable to reach Lila's mother currently," the principal sighed. "Lila, explain what happened."

Lila started to sniffle and added a few tears to her so called 'sadness.'

"... I don't know why Marinette doesn't like me! I've really tried to be her friend, but she keeps calling me a liar, getting the others to gang up against me, and now, she's pushing me down the stairs?" She finished, wiping away non-existent tears.

Marinette looked offended. "Those are total lies!"

But Mr Damocles let Lila go on.

"She even took a necklace I got from my grandmother - a fox pendant!"

"I didn't—"

"My daughter is not a thief!" Tom roared. Sabine glared at Lila.

"Why should we believe any of this? You're accusing her without any proof!"

Lila's sniffles died down. "Oh, I have proof."

Mariam decided to step in.

"There actually is proof—"

Sabine opened and closed her mouth, but no sound came out.

"—that Lila is lying. I asked Ms Bustier to use the bathroom and saw Lila walk down the stairs, sit on the floor, and start screaming in fake pain," Mariam huffed. "Ask Ms Bustier, she can clarify that I left the classroom."

Lila opened her mouth to spout another lie, but Mariam had taken out her phone and had hit call.

Someone answered.

"Mama, could you and Papa come to school? There's an emergency, some liar is accusing a girl of something fake, and I'm pretty sure my claims are about to be dismissed."

The others in the room looked shocked at her tone of voice with her mother, but Mariam wasn't always like this. Only in drastic situations.

Mariam nodded at something her mother said.

"Okay, bye, love you," and she hung up. She looked defiantly at the principal, chin held high.

"Before we move on, Lila, do you know where your necklace is?"

Lila nodded. "Y-yes, I s-saw Marinette put it in her locker..."

"What time?"

Lila froze.

Mariam smirked. "Come on, what time?"

"I-it was during lunch break..."

Mariam scowled and hissed, "Lies. Marinette was with Adrien in the halls."

"O-oh, it was b-before tha—"

"Alright what is this about my daughter going to be called a liar?" A cold voice sounded from the door.

I should've brought some popcorn... Mariam thought with a smile. Watching this Lila go down is better than any drama I've seen.
