"Adrien! It's time you practiced your piano!" His mother, Emile Agreste said, walking into the room. Adrien look up from the picture he was drawing. "You do want to earn another dinosaur don't you?" she asked. Adrien nodded, and walked over to the piano. He liked pleasing his parents, especially his mother, who got headaches sometimes. Emile gave Adrien a boost onto the piano bench. His mother sat down and watched Adrien warm up, slowly.
It was like Adrien was that good yet. Besides, he was only four years old! Mistakes were common, but he didn't give up. An hour later, Adrien looked up at his mother sitting beside him. "Can we go get a new dinosaur, Mommy?" he asked. Emile looked at her son, thinking how he was so much like her.
Even at a young age, Adrien was sweet and kind, willing to please others. "First, Daddy has to hear you play," she said. Adrien swallowed nervously.
His mother went to go his father, Gabriel Agreste. Brown hair and a stern personality, it was hard pleasing the fashion designer.
"Finished a new song?" Gabriel asked, striding into the room. Adrien flinched internally. Mother came into the room with grace and love. His father gave off only "better-not-mess-up" vibes. Still, Adrien loved his father. Besides, sometimes he let Adrien wear the "rejected" articles of clothing from the fashion brand or if he had many in stock.
Adrien placed his hands on the keys, taking a deep breath. He didn't know it now, but later in life piano would be a therapeutic communication tool. The piano knew how you were feeling, it could read moods like emotions.
Taking a look at his mother, Adrien played the song about the robin. Sometimes, Adrien wanted to the robin. Soar out the window into the world, were he could help other robins, and find a friend. As much as Adrien loved being at home, he longed for freedom.
Adrien played the final note. He looked over at Father, who was holding Mommy's hand. Father didn't do that often. Adrien knew at once that even if he didn't earn his dinosaur, Mother would be happy.
"Good job, Adrien. You have earned your dinosaur," his father said, ruffling his son's blond hair. Adrien's face lit up, but he felt like he had already won a victory.
It was cool and damp as Adrien and Emile walked to the toy store. Adrien held his mother's hand, gripping tightly. "You don't have to hold it so hard sweetie," she told her son. Adrien loosened his grip slightly, but something told him he was doing the "wrong" thing.
It was bright and cheery in the toy store. Adrien stood looking, there was quite a bit to take in for one so small. He started walking towards were the dinosaurs were and stopped. It was the superhero shelf. So many different kinds of action figures! But Adrien wasn't sure if he liked some of them. Was fighting really a answer all the time? Why hadn't they tried talking? Even if his Dino's fought sometimes, they always ate from the same bush in the end. He was just about to keep walking when two packages in a back corner caught his eye.
The first superhero was a girl smiling. She had beautiful black hair in pigtails, and she wore and red and black spotted outfit. The boy wore all black with cat ears and cat tail, making the small boy giggle.
The boy superhero also had a baton and a shiny gold bell around his neck. Adrien couldn't see up on the high shelf to read their names, but something told him that these particular superheroes were good and wise.
Right! On to find his dinosaur before Mother wanted to leave. Adrien was happy with he found a box with a Dino, a box of crayons, and a dinosaur coloring book! What luck! Maybe it was the red-and black spotted girl that brought him luck, he thought. And Mother had said one toy. Carefully, Adrien cradled his box to his chest, looking for his mommy.
"Mommy, I found my toy!" Adrien said, walking up to Emile. "Good choice, Adrien," his Mother smiled.
Adrien couldn't wait to go home and play with his new toy. The dinosaurs at home would be getting a new friend!
"Adrien, watch were your going," his mother told him, as Adrien nearly bumped into a girl with pigtails. "Did you buy a toy too?" Adrien asked. "I got a dinosaur!" "I got a ball of yarn, and look!" the small girl held up to knitting needles. "These are my magic wands! I'm going to be a knitting fairy!"
Adrien smiled, and wished her good luck. Little did Adrien Agreste know, the Knitting Fairy would one day fly to his window and grant him one very special wish.
