Kagami was sad, and Adrien knew it was his fault. Or he thought so, at least. Honestly, it was hard to tell. But what was clear was that Kagami's head was not in this Sunday's fencing lesson at all.

He had scored several points against her that she'd normally be able to parry easily. She rarely looked him in the eye, but he was fairly certain she was looking at him when he looked away. She blushed, and she seemed nervous. Kagami was never nervous. What was going on?

Finally, he approached her in the locker room. Normally, they'd talk and maybe joke about their mutual friends, or their parents, but she was looking at her phone. When she heard him approach, she looked up, surprised.

"I hope I'm not interrupting," he began carefully, but Kagami shook her head.

"I was just texting with Alya about certain things…"

"Is everything alright? I've been worried-"

"I need to tell you something.", said Kagami abruptly. "I kissed someone else last night." She briefly looked away, and then straight back at him. "Marinette, to be specific."

That was genuinely the last thing Adrien had expected. Marinette? Kagami? Kissing!? He just stared at her dumbly.

She didn't seem to take much note of his confusion. If anything, it looked like a weight had been lifted from her shoulders; she immediately sat up straighter.

"Some of us girls had a sleepover at Marinette's place last night, remember? It was fun. We watched movies and played games. One game involved dares. I was dared to pretend to kiss Marinette. We moved our heads close, our noses touched, and… I think I lost my balance. So our lips touched, briefly. I immediately pulled back and apologized."

Adrien knew perfectly well how often expert fencer Kagami lost her balance, which was to say never. He also knew all the things Nino and Alya had said about how Kagami looked at Marinette. And he was painfully aware how pretty Marinette was.

But these were things to consider another time. Maybe once he was in his forties.

"Oh, okay," said Adrien. "That doesn't sound like a big-"

"I explained to her that it was an accident, and that I was very sorry, and that I knew that she would never want to kiss someone like me, and that I had screwed everything up."

Kagami's tried her best to keep her voice steady, but Adrien was painfully aware of what she must have been going through. It's not like she had many friends, and the feeling that she was doing friendship wrong was one both of them were familiar with.

"No, Kagami, don't think that! It's just a harmless mistake, I'm sure Marinette will forgive you.", he said, trying to reassure her.

"Actually, she got very angry at me.", said Kagami matter-of-factly.

"Oh no! I can talk to her…"

"No, you misunderstand. You know that look Marinette sometimes gets when someone is hurt and she wants to fix it? Angry, determined and caring all the time? That's what she did here. She stood up, gently guided my face with her hand, and… kissed me."

Oh. Adrien was briefly speechless. He could easily imagine Marinette doing something like this. Or perhaps "dream about" was a better description… but he never expected it would actually happen.

"For quite a while, actually", continued Kagami. "I was surprised at first, but it was… nice. Very nice. Warm, and soft, and…" She trailed off, smiling and blushing.

"When she finished, she looked very sheepish, like she was about to apologise. Clearly that was not acceptable, so I kissed her again."

Adrien's head was spinning, but Kagami didn't seem to notice.

"After that, we just kept kissing each other. On the lips, the cheeks, the corner of the mouth…"

There were a lot of thoughts in Adrien's head; most of them ones he didn't want to deal with. Luckily, he was good at not dealing with them. Instead he asked, "Wasn't this awkward? With all the other girls around?"

Kagami sighed. "At first… well, we got too into it to care. The others were surprised, I guess, but encouraging. But then Marinette tried to push her tongue through my lips, and that was… not good. I may have jumped a bit. That was awkward."

"Oh…"

"And then Rose decided that she and Juleka should give us tips about proper kissing. In the middle of the room, with everyone watching."

"That… sounds a bit awkward, doesn't it?", said Adrien, scratching the back of his neck.

"Mortifying," said Kagami gravely. "But the tips turned out to be very helpful."

"Wait, you continued after that? Didn't that… ruin the mood?"

Adrien was shocked. If that had happened to him and Nino, that would have completely killed the mood, probably. Not that he wanted to kiss Nino, of course… actually, come to think of it, he probably wouldn't mind kissing Nino? But that was a topic for another time.

Kagami nodded.

"It did, for a moment. But then Marinette suggested that it would be rude not to try it after Rose had gone to all that trouble, and I had to agree."

Warning lights started flashing in Adrien's head. "Kagami," he said carefully, "you don't have to… make out with someone just because it would be rude if you don't want to-"

Kagami grabbed his arm, and looked at him like he had had just asked what the capital of France was.

"Adrien," she said carefully. "I agreed to kiss Marinette some more because that way I got to kiss Marinette some more."

"Ooooh…"

"And honestly, I don't think rudeness was the main reason she suggested it. She was kind of babbling at the time."

"Yeah, she does that," said Adrien. The thought brought a smile to his face. "It's always super adorable…"

"Indeed," said Kagami, smiling similarly. "I guess if I had waited more, she would have come up with other reasons to keep on kissing. But I did not want to hesitate. …and for what it's worth, the tips really did work, except for the one about imagining unicorns."

She held up her phone. "I have taken notes, if you are interested."

"Wha-?"

"I think I am, at this point, an expert in kissing Marinette, so I think I could teach you a lot."

Adrien's jaw dropped to the floor. What was that supposed to mean? He wasn't going to kiss Marinette… right?

Kagami looked at him expectantly, but he had no idea how to respond. After a moment, he just nodded. She briefly flashed him a suspicious look; the one she usually reserved for other fencers. Like she was biding her time.

"Anyway, Alya did make us go to a corner of the room out of the way, but other than that, our friends did not seem to mind much. I wasn't really paying attention, but I do recall hearing a 'woo!' at some point."

She looked very proud at that achievement.

"Apparently the consensus was that we were 'cute', 'romantic', 'sweet' and 'hot'. But you can judge for yourself. Alya took pictures. Do you want to see?"

She did not wait for a reply, and instead began tapping around on her phone, before showing it to him. He saw the two girls, holding each other close, kissing. They seemed flushed, and their eyes were closed. Marinette had her hand in Kagami's hair. Both were smiling, happy and content. The picture was a bit dark and grainy. It was the most amazing thing Adrien had ever seen.

Marinette's eyes were closed, and she looked like she did during these rare, magical moments when he and her had danced together. Kagami was pressed tight against her, eager, without any of the stoicism she so often hid behind. It was rare and beautiful to see her so happy. If he looked closely, he could see the way Marinette's hand-

Kagami drew the phone away suddenly. He let out a shocked yelp, but then calmed himself. Maybe spending hours staring at his girlfriend kissing his favorite female classmate was not entirely appropriate. Not that Kagami seemed to mind; she seemed to genuinely enjoy his interest, if anything.

"Don't worry, there are more pictures. Alya also took a video. Apparently she wants to use it to embarrass Marinette at some point in the future."

A video? Hm, could he bribe Alya into sending it to him…? No! That was definitely not okay. He tried to shake the thought. And he definitely couldn't let Kagami know that he had the idea in the first place…

"She sent it to me as well," said Kagami. "Should I forward it to you?"

"Yesplease!"

Adrien clasped his hand over his mouth, but Kagami just nodded and smiled. In fact, the smile looked kind of sly…

"It is sent", she said, after pressing a few buttons on her phone. "Though I think you really should have been there yourself. The picture cannot compare to the real thing."

She paused.

"Kissing Marinette is an experience. You know how fierce and passionate she gets? She puts all of that into every kiss. She wants you to know that you matter to her, and that she is so, so happy to be with you. It's almost overwhelming. Actually…"

She tapped her finger on her chin.

"I really would like to draw her kissing someone. Capture the raw emotion, you know? Ideally someone really pretty."

"I… uh… you are very pretty, Kagami."

"Thank you, Adrien. So are you."

His head was spinning. It seemed like Kagami was trying to send him some sort of message, but he had no idea what it could be. Was this supposed to be a confession, or was she trying to make him jealous?

…and jealous of who, exactly?

"And when she touched me…", continued Kagami.

"She touched you?"

"Stop thinking dirty thoughts. We kept our hands strictly to appropriate areas." With a smirk, she added, "sadly."

Adrien felt the blood rush to his cheeks, among other places.

"That was a joke," said Kagami. "It was definitely intense enough as it was, and I think neither of us would have been comfortable with more." She thought for a moment. "But I must admit that I am curious…"

She winked, but thankfully didn't elaborate. But neither was she willing to give him a reprieve either. It almost felt like one of their fencing matches; one she was winning.

"Anyway, Marinette hugs you with her full force, like she never wants to let you go. I felt safe and warm with her. Her fingers on my spine created some delightful tingling. I always thought the phrase 'her touch was like lightning' was a stupid metaphor, but I think I was wrong there. And in return, when you touch her, there are a few spots I found… I definitely understand why you enjoy making her squeal."

"Wha– I don't!", yelled Adrien, defensively.

"Oh?", said Kagami. "You keep telling me how fun it is to surprise her when she doesn't expect you…"

Adrien shook his head.

"That- I- I mean, sure, it is really adorable how she jumps if you call her, and how she looks all flustered and flushed, but that's not- you're making it weird! That's a totally different thing."

Kagami looked at him, with her finger on her chin.

"No… that is what I am talking about. Imagine that, but then you get to do whatever it is that made her flustered some more. And then she kisses you."

Adrien had no problem imagining it; quite the contrary. He was going to need a long cold shower after this.

"You seem… happy about this," he said carefully.

"I am! This is all very exciting," Kagami said. "I think I may be bisexual. Or pansexual. I think I'll have to do some research."

"Nathaniel can probably help you", Adrien said absentmindedly. "Or maybe you are a lesbian?"

Kagami looked him straight in the eye, then shook his head.

"No, I don't think so. I know for sure that I like boys."

Then she gave him a wink that almost stopped his heart. Was she… flirting with him? Why would she do that, now? Not that it wasn't working… Could he maybe change the subject entirely? Maybe talk about baking? Fashion? Kitty Section? …why could he only think of topics that included Marinette? He had to make an effort to bring the discussion to somewhere less compromising.

"So, what else did you do? Or were you just kissing the entire time?"

Effort made and failed. And Kagami had definitely noticed. He had no idea what game she was playing, but she was undeniably enjoying it.

"Well, it was very late, we were tired, and we went to sleep. The other girls voted to separate us two, for impulse control." Kagami looked sad at that, but then shrugged. "It was probably for the best. I am not certain we would have slept otherwise."

Adrien nodded, in what he hoped looked like an understanding fashion. What was he supposed to do? Be understanding? Disappointed? Excited for Kagami? He was completely lost.

"So… what happened in the morning?", he asked finally. No matter what else was going on, Kagami seemed very happy to tell the story, and he wanted to make her happy.

And perhaps he was just a tiny bit interested in hearing about the two prettiest girls he knew kissing. But that was absolutely not a major factor at all, no.

Kagami drew in a breath. "The morning was… awkward. Marinette would not speak to me, and whenever she looked at me, she would blush and quickly turn away. I'm not sure I was very different. It was confusing, awkward… and it hurt a lot. We haven't really talked about… any of this. About the kissing, about us, about… you. So I was wondering whether it was a mistake, or whether Marinette thought it was a mistake, or whether I had just destroyed that friendship…"

"Oh…" While he hadn't exactly expected the kissing, Adrien was well aware how important the friendship with Marinette was to Kagami.

"But then, just as I was about to leave, Marinette jumped up, grabbed me, and kissed me again. And then she pushed me out the door."

Kagami looked very pleased at that.

"Then I was at home, then I was fencing, and now I am here. That is all. So…"

For a moment neither of them spoke. He knew he had to reply somehow, but how did you follow a story like that, from your girlfriend no less? He had no idea what to do. Okay, that wasn't true. He knew precisely what he needed to ask next, what he should have asked all along.

"So what happens now?", he asked. "With you and Marinette and…?"

And us. He did not have the heart to finish the question. Kagami, for her part, seemed to have been expecting it.

"I have been thinking about that," said Kagami. "And texting with Alya, a bit, which has helped."

She opened the notes on her phone.

"My feelings for Marinette are as follows: I enjoy her company. I think she is very pretty. Seeing her makes me happy. I want to spend lots of time with her. I want to get to know her better. I want to make her happy and smile."

Adrien nodded. "Right, yeah, we talked about that. Marinette is a super-awesome friend, and those feelings are just normal for everyone who knows her, aren't they?"

Kagami shook her head. "At first I thought so, but I think that was a misunderstanding. You see, all this is how I feel about you as well."

Adrien felt his heart stop for a moment.

"I thought the feelings for Marinette were different somehow, because she's a girl. They felt different, because she's her, and you're you, and you're not the same. But then I spent a lot of time kissing her, and I'm starting to think that deep down, the feelings are not different at all. And maybe the fact that she's a girl does not actually matter. But if I feel the same things I feel for her as I do for you, then that logically means I am in love with her."

Kagami was positively beaming. "And I think there is a chance she may be interested in me as well."

That was exactly what Adrien had feared, and expected. Part of him wanted to hug and congratulate Kagami; part of him wanted to cry. Part of him wondered: If Kagami felt that way about Marinette, and she was in love with her, then the way he felt about Marinette… well, that didn't really matter, did it? He simply, finally settled for asking the obvious.

"So, does this mean you're breaking up with me?", he asked. It wasn't really a question, though. "If you have a shot with Marinette, you'd be crazy not to take it."

Kagami had the audacity to actually smirk at him, as if she knew something he didn't. But then, to his surprise, she shook her head.

"I'd prefer not to, if you are willing."

"No?", asked Adrien, incredulously. "But if Marinette…"

"You have not been paying proper attention," said Kagami. "I did say I am in love with you as well."

"But…"

"I am in love with you, and I am in love with her. I really want to kiss her, a lot. And I want to kiss you, a lot. And… I want to see you two kiss each other."

For a moment, Adrien just stared blankly. Did she say she wanted…?

Oh. Oh…!

That explained so much!

And it also raised so many other questions.

"But… I don't feel that way about Marinette", said Adrien. "She's a really good friend…"

The words were well-practiced, but something about them felt hollow. They had in fact always felt hollow, ever since that day he had given her his umbrella. But now, they seemed to burn in his mouth. And Kagami seemed to notice.

"-and cute, adorable, inspiring, someone you want to be close to, right?", she continued for him. "Your own words."

"Well, yes, but-"

"Don't repeat what you think you have to," said Kagami. "Don't hesitate, and follow your heart. You're allowed to be honest with yourself, and about who you love. I thought the same things you did. But then I spent an hour making out with her, and it showed me I was wrong." She eyed him closely, with a smirk. "You should try it, too. And let me watch."

"I- but- look, I never thought of her that way."

"Maybe not consciously," said Kagami. "But you dropped everything to get her constipation medicine, and after the New York trip, you were gushing for weeks about how great it was to dance with her. That actually gave me some very odd feelings. Like jealousy, but also very different. I think I figured them out now, though."

"I- but- I can't be in love with Marinette!", shouted Adrien.

"Why not? It appears to come to you really easily."

"But I tried so hard not to be", said Adrien, quietly. Kagami looked at him, surprised.

"I… look, yes, of course, she's really special. More and more every day. And I'm so glad that I am friends with her! It wasn't easy; I think I scare her a bit. You know, when I meet her, sometimes it takes her five minutes before she can form a normal sentence around me."

He nervously scratched the back of his neck.

"But, like, it's totally worth it to wait for her to get there! She's so nice, and sweet, and great to be around. And I don't want to risk that. It's all… confusing. For the longest time I thought she was in love with someone, but I'm not really sure who. And besides, I don't want to push her away and- what's so funny?"

Kagami immediately stopped chuckling, and rearranged her wide grin into a purely professional facade.

"I'm sorry, there's nothing funny, your situation is perfectly understandable. But I think there's a misunderstanding here."

She placed her finger on her chin and thought for a few seconds. Finally, she put her hand up and raised a single finger.

"I need to tell you a few things. Number one: As her friend, I am honor bound to never tell you why she acts weird around you."

Well, that wasn't very helpful, now was it? But before he could say anything, Kagami continued, raising another finger

"Number two, my honor also prevents me from telling you who she really is in love with."

She raised a third finger.

"Number three, I am likewise unable to tell you what she really feels about you and why she has these pictures of you on her wall."

Wait, did that mean-?

"However, you are free to draw whatever conclusions you want from the fact that I just brought these points up."

Oh god, it really did mean-!

Kagami looked at him, slightly unsure of herself.

"This is supposed to be a subtle hint. I workshopped it with Alya over text message. Is it working?"

"Wha- Oh my god, Marinette is in love with me!"

Kagami nodded, smiling, and said, "I technically did not tell you that."

"That means I love you, and I love her, and she loves us both, and we you love us both, and… oh my god!"

"Yes!", said Kagami happily. "We can go on dates together, and spend lots of time kissing each other."

He blushed slightly as Kagami continued.

"We can maybe find another ball pit-"

"We can eat ice cream together-", he joined in, excitedly.

"We can watch movies-"

"We can cuddle in the moonlight-"

"We can get a joint weapons locker for our fencing gear-"

"We can– wait, what?"

Kagami shrugged. "Yes, it does sound weird, but apparently it's a thing. To be honest, it was all a bit rushed. I have only looked at the title of the link that Alya sent me, let me just…", she said as she got out her phone.

"Oh, I misread that", she said as she scrolled through. "Apparently it's spelled 'Polyamory'. Maybe it's not about weapons at all."

"Okay… we probably need to do some more research," he said. "So what do we do next?"

"Well, we need to talk to Marinette," said Kagami. "Alya has been in contact with her. She says she's not allowed to tell us any details about what Marinette told her, but she also hints that it is worth a shot and we should go for it."

She showed him a text message from Alya that read, "Hint: It's definitely worth a shot, go for it!"

His eyes lit up, as Kagami smiled at him.

"But first of all", she said, "I'm going to teach you everything I learned about kissing."

Author's note: Thanks to my sister for beta-reading! I had originally planned to write and finish this before season 4, but I somehow just didn't have the energy.
