Title: Wakey Wakey Eggs and Cuddles
Summary: It happens without any real intention. Eda and Raine, pouring over plans in her room. Eda and Raine, laughing and joking, jostling shoulders. Eda and Raine, stumbling haphazardly into her nest, each wrinkle on the other's face a testament to how late it was for both of them. Eda, awake at noon, alone.

It happens without any real intention.
Rolling onto her back, she stared up at the ceiling. The only proof of companionship was the extra sharp ache in her hip from not having the room to toss and turn. Eda ran her hands across the branches and blankets and found no other warm spots. Raine had left, and they'd been gone for a few minutes at least. Probably back to their fancy Coven Head house, she thought. Or maybe to their little BATTs lair.
"Typical," she grumbled. Eda sat up, squishing down the niggling loneliness with a vengeance. This always happened when she invited people her age over. "Well, I hope they got some sleep before they left."
A sharp knock on the door. "Eda? Are you… talking to yourself?"
Eda's shoulders relaxed. "It's called narration, Rainstorm," she tsked. "All the cool witches are doing it."
Raine chuckled and entered with a tray of breakfast foods and a cup of coffee. "Luz said something about you needing a morning elixir, so I mixed it in with your drink. I hope you don't mind."
"I usually just take it straight," she admitted, touched by the gesture. "I should hold you hostage more often, Whispers."
"I already ate half," they admitted, draping the tray across her lap. Raine had a bemused grin as they sat on the lip of her nest. "King wouldn't let me give it to you until I did. I think he thought I might be trying to poison you?"
"That's fine. I'm not much of an eater this early." Eda cut a triangle out of her screamcakes and tried to ignore the way Raine watched her. It wasn't intrusive. It was inquisitive. As if she was something interesting to watch. "What's the plan for the day, Cloudy?"
Raine shrugged. "We were up pretty late. I think we could stand to recoup."
"Really?"
"Really. Besides- my kids are in school too, you know."
"Huh." Eda set her fork down, pondering why that felt like such a heavy burden to carry. Kids in school, fighting their battles. Even if the school was night writing classes, it meant they were young, and adaptive, and shouldn't have to be starting revolutions to exist as themselves. "I don't think I've had a day off for myself since… ever."
Raine slid down into the nest, throwing an arm around her shoulders. It was romantic in theory, but floundered when they had to shift to dislodge a stick from their butt and untangle a lock of Eda's hair from their earring.
"It's called self-care, Eda," they replied indulgently, face neon red. "All the cool witches are doing it."
Author's Note: Eda being so used to people leaving she's surprised AND happy that Raine stays hurts me but it's also fun to write.
