What Happens Now
Chapter 1
When Grey paired Tim and Lucy up, it honestly felt like old times, but something felt different about it now. It wasn't that she was no longer his rookie now, she knew that. It was something deeper, and something that she couldn't quite put her finger on. After Tim had rescued her when she had been buried alive, Lucy could sense the shift in their relationship from that point on. Things remained normal between them, but the amount that she thought about him after that, was uncountable. She found herself with him on her mind, more and more after that day. She was hopeful that after she became a P2, and got partnered with somebody different, that it might change. That day came and went with absolutely no change. Lucy came to the realization pretty quickly that she was pretty sure she falling in love with her former T.O. What she had thought was just a joke with him on her last day as a rookie, had actually turned out to be true. She had feelings for Tim Bradford. She wasn't exactly sure what to do after that realization hit her. If she told him, she risked screwing up a great friendship and mentorship, but she wasn't sure how to go along holding that in.
As they rode down the streets of LA and the Mid-Wilshire district, everything seemed so normal. They talked about random things from Kojo, to other things. The only different thing that was noticeable, was that Tim no longer called her "boot". She actually couldn't help but feel a sense of pride when he called her by her actual name. It felt so different, but so good, and reminded her of the accomplishment she made by making it through her rookie year. It wasn't until Grey tasked them with serving a warrant, that everything tilted upside down. As they walked up to the doorstep of the house, Tim took the lead, after all he was the senior officer between the two. She followed him inside and then they split up to clear the house. As Lucy went one direction and Tim in the other, both slowly clearing out the rooms in the house, she could feel something eating at her. She felt more uneasy then she usually did. It was then that she felt her world tilt on its axis.
BANG
Gunshots, she thought to herself, as she hollered his name to the top of her lungs, while running to find where she thought she heard that from.
"TIM" – she hollered, running through the house in the direction he had went, while keeping her gun straight out in front of her.
"TIM" – she hollered again, with still no answer.
As she rounded the corner, she wasn't quite prepared to see what she seen laying in the kitchen of the house they were in. There her former T.O. was, laying with blood puddling under him. A firm reminder of her second day on the job, when he had been shot in the street. As she placed her hands over the wound that was now visible on his chest, she pressed tightly and grabbed her radio to call for backup and an ambulance.
"7 Adam 19, Officer down, shots fired at our location. Requesting RA and backup immediately." – she said into her radio, still pressing hard onto what now seemed like even more blood puddling around his body, as he laid their unconscious.
"C'mon Tim, you've got to stay with me here. That ambulance is gonna be here in a few minutes, just stay with me." – she said, trying to get him to stay awake.
He still wasn't talking, but his eyes were fluttering open and closed. As she heard the sirens getting closer and closer, she felt a sigh of relief wash over her. Thank goodness, that ambulance was almost there. She felt like it had been a million years. As they loaded Tim into the back, she headed straight up and jumped back there with the paramedic, because there was no way she was leaving him alone. As they rode through the streets at what felt like 5 miles an hour to her, she knew she had tears streaming down her face. She took a hold of his hand and tried talking to him, but he just remained unconscious mainly, except for the few times his eyes looked as though they were fluttering open. Although at this point, she thought that easily could've been a hallucination. She needed him to be okay. If she never got the chance to tell him how she felt, she'd never forgive herself, she thought to herself.
Everything felt like it was moving so slowly to her at the moment. It felt like it took them an hour or longer to arrive at the hospital, but in reality it was only around 10 minutes. As they unloaded him from the ambulance and rushed him back, Lucy wanted more than anything to just push through all the people blocking her and follow them. She just fell back into one of the chairs in the waiting room, before walking to the bathroom to look in the mirror. She was covered in blood, not her own, but the one person that she loved more than possibly anything. The person who had absolutely no clue how she felt about him right now. She tried scrubbing and scrubbing the blood off of her hands. After what felt like a million years, her hands finally looked clean. She walked back out to the waiting room, to find Sergeant Grey walking through the doors of the waiting room. They both took an empty seat in the waiting room as they waited for news about Tim, and soon Angela, Nyla, Nolan, and Jackson joined them, as did Wesley. They all just sat there waiting for what felt like hours.
5 hours later, Lucy found herself sitting beside him, as he laid there in a hospital bed, having yet to wake up. The doctor had come out around 2 hours ago, and told them that the surgery they had done went well. They got the bullet out of him, and there was damage done to anything. Lucy couldn't help but feel a wave of relief wash over her, as he explained that. The rest of them had left around an hour ago, but Lucy decided to stay. Not only did she want to, but she had to after he had stayed the night at the hospital when she was there around 2 years ago. As she sat beside his bed, she found herself holding his hand. Today was possibly the scariest day of her life thus far. The thought of losing the one person that she cared about more than anybody else, pained her so much that she honestly felt like she couldn't live without him. As she laid her head on his hand, she found herself drifting to sleep, and more calm than she had been all day long.
As Tim's eyes fluttered open, he felt a stabbing pain shoot through him. His head was killing him, and his chest felt like it could explode at the moment. The last thing he remembered was serving that warrant with Chen, and that was it. Chen, he thought to himself. Was she okay? What the hell was all the noise he heard right now? As the room stopped spinning, and he could see more clearly, he found himself laying there looking at what he could now see was a hospital room. That would explain the enormous amount of pain he felt at the moment, he thought. As he looked around, something caught his eye. He could notice that hair anywhere. What he didn't expect to see was his former rookie, laying with her head on his hand, and her hand intertwined in his.
"Lucy" – he said, not sounding like himself at all.
Lucy didn't seem to be awoken by that at all.
"Lucy" – he said again, sounding a little more normal that time.
As she raised her head, he could see that her eyes where very red at the moment. It looked as though, she had been crying endlessly, but why, he thought to himself.
"Oh my God, Tim" – she said as she raised her head and seen him lying there with his eyes wide open.
"Let me go get the doctor" – she continued.
"Hold Up, are you okay?" – he asked.
"Yeah, fine. Why?" – she said, trying to hide the fact that she looked completely miserable at the moment.
"You know, I've told you before, but you're a terrible liar, Luce" – he said, hoping to get her to explain.
Just do it Lucy, she thought to herself. Tell him why you look miserable. Tell him how you feel. Tell him how he scared the absolute daylights out of you today. Tell him how you nearly lost the one person you love more than anything. Quit being scared, and just let it out.
"Okay, you really want to know if I'm okay right now?" – she said, sounding more like a statement instead of a question.
"Yeah, what's wrong?" – Tim asked.
"What's wrong, is that I have been lying to myself and to you for too long. Today, I got a reminder that I just need to go ahead and say what I've been holding in for too long now." – she said.
"I think I'm absolutely head over heels in love with you, okay. I know that sounds completely insane, but I can't get you out of my head, Tim. When you were laying there today, I honestly realized how much I would hate myself if I were to never get the chance to tell you that. – she continued, tears visibly streaming down her face as she found herself right next to him.
"So, there; I said it. I'm completely and madly in love with you, Tim. That's probably going to make things incredibly awk…" – she said, unable to finish as she felt him tugging her down and placing his lips on top of hers.
As she pulled away a few moments later, he stared at her, and she couldn't help but smirk at what had just transpired between them.
"Sorry, but I really wanted to say something, and you were starting to ramble." – he said, looking straight into her eyes.
"I'm so in love with you too, Lucy Chen" – he finished.
"So, what happens now?" – Lucy said, laying her head on him.
