The sun was slowly making its descent, causing pink streaks to spread out across the sky. They had been walking for a few hours now, and Thorne had finally requested a break, though it was more for Cress than himself.
They settled across a patch of sand in the shade of another dune. Endless dunes. Cress had started to lose enthusiasm, and her feet hurt. So very much. They had been resting for about twenty minutes when suddenly, the sand shifted a few feet away from Cress, and a number of hairy legs poked out.
'Aaaah! Eeek! Oh, my! What in the stars is that!' Cress said, screaming, and putting as much distance between herself and the nasty creature.
'Woah, woah woah. Cress, don't go flying off without me, we stay together.' said Thorne. 'Describe.'
'Giant! And horrible to look at! So. Many. Legs! Euh! Captain!' Cress scooted back a little farther.
'Let me guess.' Thorne drawled. ' A spider? Or maybe it's a tarantula, giving its size. Don't worry, it's a fairly normal reaction to seeing spiders.' He looked worried for a moment. 'Wait, it's not on me is it?'
'No, it's not. But can we please start walking now? It's staring at me with all those eyes.' Cress shuddered.
Thorne began to pack up their meagre supplies, upon Cress's instructions, so as not to disturb the spider.
They had been walking for about ten minutes when Cress asked, 'You don't think it's still following us, do you?' She quickly looked behind them, scanning the sand for a certain hair-legged creature.
'I doubt it, Cress. But if it is, I will honourably defend you.'
Cress looked dubious. 'Are you sure? I'm pretty sure Cinder said something about you being squeamish.'
'Hey! That is so unfair! There was a cockroach in my uniform. That's a perfectly justifiable reason to be squeamish. And besides, if I can't see the tarantula, and I can't feel it, then I'm fine.'
'Are you sure there isn't a spider on you now? Something's crawling up your cane,'
'Cress, I know a bluff when I see one, there's nothing on my cane,' said Thorne. He ran his hand down his cane to prove it. 'See? Nothing he- Aaaaah!' He thrust it away from him.
Cress screamed too, and together, they ran all the way to Kufra.
Hope you enjoyed! Pls leave a review, it would make my day.
