Inko
Kōhei Horikoshi is the owner of all official characters and world that is Boku no Hero Academia. I make nothing from this. It's just fun fanfiction. The art used for the cover was made by Reishichi.
This was posted originally on my AO3 profile. I had it cross-posted to my FFN profile. I'm just sharing all the love, folks. :D
Izuku smiled warmly as the party continued. His precious daughter had opened all of her birthday gifts, the cake and ice cream were devoured by hungry friends of his daughter, and the birthday girl herself, Inko Midoriya, was with all her friends in the living room playing family party video games on the TV and having so much fun.
She was happy being seven years old today.
Izuku loved it all. He loved the life he had. He loved all of his friends. He loved his mother-in-law and father-in-law. He loved his two daughters and his wife.
"Eri-neechan!"
"Hehehe!"
The laughter was cheerful and full of life.
But he soon turned around to leave the party-charged atmosphere. His wife Ochako saw him walk away and she quietly excused herself from Momo and Shoto, following after her husband. At a much quieter part of the house, Izuku now stands in front of an elegantly hand-crafted red-stained table with painted decal of flowers in beautiful colors of pink, white, blue, green and yellow. A small incense board rests in front of a gold-framed photo of Inko Midoriya, Izuku's mother, Ochako's late mother-in-law.
The old incense was safely discarded into the nearby metal trash bin before Izuku takes out a fresh stick, and lit the end. The calming scent slowly filled his nose as he got to his knees before the photo and he closed his eyes.
"It's your granddaughter's seventh birthday, mom. It's also your birthday, too. You both have the same birthday…" Izuku sighed softly. "Seven years… I had her seven years ago and she's growing up so fast already, mom. Oh, how I wish she could stay my precious little princess forever…"
A pair of hands gently rest on his shoulders and give a firm squeeze.
"I'm certain mama Inko can see everything, sweetie," Ochako spoke softly.
Izuku took a deep quiet breath and then lets out a slow exhale through his nose.
"Before UA, my birthdays weren't all that fun."
Ochako nodded quietly. When they started dating, she learned everything about Izuku's childhood, and how it wasn't a fun one. How he only had his mom to always be at his side through everything. And she also soundly beat the crap out of Bakugo for being his childhood bully. That, though, had somehow cemented a working friendship in the end. She at least beat some actual sense into the man. Now he's mellow and has a family of his own today.
"Mom would always make me feel so special. So it was only right I made hers extra special every year," Izuku continued speaking.
Ochako smiled softly.
"I remember that one day when you said you couldn't join us on that hangout at the ice cream shop with the others because you had to get home to bake a cake for your mom to have on her birthday."
Izuku smiled. "You decided to come with me to my house and helped me bake mom's cake and decorate it, too. And mom was so happy seeing the cake when she got home from work."
"I remember the stories she told me about you and your All Might jammies," she says with a giggle.
Izuku chuckled himself, cheeks a light red.
"Thanks to mom… my sixteenth birthday was one that I cherished so much… you and mom made it happen. The whole class was in on it. It was… so amazing… god, I cried so ugly that day," he says in a mutter.
"When I put that paper gold crowd on your head… oh, how your eyes lit up. I loved that look you had that day."
Izuku and Ochako look to the framed photo of Inko.
"Mom? Are you watching? We have a happy life. We have two amazing daughters. We're always keeping Japan safe from dangerous villains. We're living life everyday and making amazing and wondrous memories together."
Izuku suddenly feels the presence of a hand doing a gentle head pat. Izuku reached up, but feels nothing.
"Honey? You okay?"
"I felt… I felt my head getting a… a gentle pat," he answered slowly.
"Mama's letting you know that she can hear us, honey," Ochako responded after a minute.
A warm smile crosses his lips, as small tears fall from his eyes.
"I love you, mom. I hope you're enjoying your birthday in heaven…"
After a long moment of silence, Izuku gets back up to his feet, muttering under his breath about the slight ache he felt in his knees.
"I'm getting old," he mutters softly.
Ochako just giggles softly, as she lopped an arm around Izuku's. The couple share a chaste kiss before walking back to the party.
There were no open windows or doors in this hallway, and yet a wisp of wind blew through, disturbing the faint smoke of the burning incense. A melodious laugh can be heard faintly in the air.
July 4 is Izuku's mom's birthday, folks. A happy birthday to the greatest mom in the BNHA universe.
