Chapter 5: Intermission
11:00am
Meanwhile back at the Hokage's office, Tsunade and Kakashi observe the action from the top floor, while the first removed shinobi from the game, Sakura, lays on a couch in a slight daze.
"So, what are your thoughts on their performance so far?" Kakashi asks while peering through a pair of binoculars.
"I'll give the young ninjas one thing, they seem to be persistent in their efforts to get their tasks finished as quickly as possible," she comments. "Although I am curious about one particular shinobi and his tactics so far."
"You mean Shikamaru?" Kakashi questions. "It appears that we have underestimated the pace he is able to finish his tasks compared to the rest. If this keeps up, he could derail the flow of operations and cause the remaining shinobi to direct their suspicions on him."
Sakura, coming out of her incapacitated state, sits up and looks at her two leaders.
"Ow…man…I didn't expect to be taken out that quickly…" she groans, rubbing her head.
"Sakura, you're finally awake. So, were you surprised by who betrayed you?" Tsunade asks, turning to the pink-haired young woman.
"Yes, actually..." Sakura responds, her eyebrows lowered in embarrassment. "I would have never believed that 'they' would end up being the imposter. It makes me wonder how long the rest are going to last with 'them' on the prowl."
"I see," Kakashi responds, rubbing his chin. "Oh, by the way, Sakura, there is a note that Shikamaru left for you while he was here earlier," he adds, turning to grab a piece of paper from the desk before handing it to her.
"Oh? Shikamaru was here? So he wasn't lying about needing to request more tasks then. I wonder what he wrote me?" Sakura responds, taking the letter from Kakashi to read it.
"You're lucky to be out of the game this early. We are all in for one hell of a fight. I know who one of the imposters is, and they 'scare' me. I'll keep my eyes open, but don't be shocked if I end up out of the game soon, even I may not see this coming…" ~ Shikamaru.
Sakura sets down the letter and looks up to Tsunade and Kakashi.
"This sounds pretty bed. I hope the others flush out the imposters before the end of the day…" she comments, curious as to whom Shikamaru was alluding to.
