Chapter One
She moans his name as his kisses slowly cascade down her neck towards her unbuttoned flannel shirt. Her fingers are tangled in strands of perpetually windblown hair, guiding him along the way.
His hands are warm, and they are slowly losing their hesitancy and beginning to roam freely. Her breathing is labored, her grip stronger on his damp red locks. Is he teasing her? Is he lost? Is he as nervous as she is?
A whimper escapes her throat when he whispers her name in return. His voice is softer, intoxicating. This is not the boy she met that first day, sprawled across the cave floor at her feet in that ridiculous striped bathing suit. It still doesn't seem real.
It started that day in the Arctic, or at least what they believed it to be. A train to fail exercise Batman called it. The outcome was traumatizing; domino after domino, death upon death.
Afterwards the Team spent days in a fog, drifting around the cave like lifeless zombies; unable to talk, unable to feel. Just numb.
By the time counseling sessions with Canary began, the coping methods they'd worked so hard to build were firmly in place. Dinah knocked them down in less than two sessions. There was anger, there was tears, but ultimately there was acceptance.
A knock on the archer's door later that day was the first move of a very complicated chess match. The two finally saw each other for who they were and who they wanted to be. That was the day the game began.
Everything can be explained by science he's so fond of saying. It's simple physics. The Law of Attraction; likes repel, opposites attract. Her patented response is calling him some derogatory name and wrapping him in her arms shortly after.
In the end, the how's or why's are not important. It works; it just does. It's been a month now; the two of them hiding in the shadows. No one knows. Perhaps that's part of the fun.
In public, their relationship puts a strain on team chemistry at times; the bickering, the criticism, the constant need to one up the other. So much so that Kaldur does his best to assign them to sperate missions whenever possible.
In private, away from the watchful eye of teammates and mentors, they are two completely different people. When the Team eventually discovers the truth, they will not appreciate the deception. They'll just have to get over it.
The flames inside her begin to spread and she is close to losing control. She's never felt like this before; the desire, the need, the longing. Without warning she turns the tables, flipping him over and straddling her conquest. He does not resist. The speedster's green eyes glow in the moonlight of her bedroom window as she pulls his shirt over his head. His freckles seem to go on forever. His cocky grin is nowhere to be seen, replaced with a vulnerability she rarely gets to see. She likes being in control. She likes him.
Her mother will be home soon, so there's no time to waste. She really doesn't know what she's doing, but looks forward to figuring it out for herself along the way
She's almost seventeen and she's can't remember a time she's felt this fulfilled; this happy. She's a hero. She has a new family. She has a new life. And she might be in love. Yet despite it all she's scared to death that someone is going to come in and take it all away
Author's Notes - It's been a long time. I guess the return of YJ has sparked something. Someone else returning would be greatly appreciated. Pardon the typos, I'm still trying to get back in the swing of things. Enjoy.
