If you asked her Susie would say she came from a normal household, she had a mom and a dad and a house to go back to. If you asked her, she'd look at you weirdly for suggesting that being woken up from sleep by being literally kicked out of her bed was a normal thing to happen.

"Get up brat! That alarms been going off for ten minutes! I'm not paying to send you to that school just for you to waste time here!" Her mother yelled dragging Susie up by her hair and throwing her out of her room.

She stumbled bit but withheld the growl that threatened to leave her throat, she knew it'd just get her mom to yell and she didn't need her dad getting in on the action too. So instead, she just sucked it up like she always did and made her way to the bathroom. Soon enough her teeth were brushed and she was in her kitchen looking for something to eat, she was going to be late anyway why rush the process?

"Don't drink the Orange Juice." Her dad said, reading the newspaper at the kitchen table.

"Fuck off, I'll do what I want old man." She said back grabbing said carton.

She flinched at the feeling of a cup shattering against the back of her head, she hissed as she rubbed the shards of glass out of her hair and turned to glare at her dad who returned the favor.

"Don't talk back to me little girl." He growled folding his paper as he stood up. "Put the carton away. Now."

"Tch, fine jeez. Wasted a perfectly good cup." She grumbled, tensing her body for the dragging she knew she was going to happen to her.

Sure enough, her father proceeded to drag her from the kitchen to the living room and then finally outside. She grunted as she was thrown against the car door, opening it without a word and rubbing at her forehead as her dad scowled at her. Looks like she wasn't going to eat breakfast again, not like it was a problem. She liked eating chalk more than food at this point anyway.

Not like she could do anything about it anyways.

"I got a call from your teacher. Again."

Greeeeat. Alphys snitched on her again, what was with that woman and not leaving her alone? If she missed class a few times that was her business not hers. Jeez, she had to take care of her bruises somehow.

"If you miss another class again there'll be hell to pay understand me girl?" He said backing out of their driveway.

Susie grumbled. An action that earned her an elbow she couldn't prepare herself for.

"How many times do I have to tell you to answer me with words?" He said with a sigh. "If you keep making me and your mother discipline you like this you'll never learn anything. Honestly Susie, you've got to be better, understand?"

She mumbled out a 'yes' which was good enough for him as they drove on, yeah she knew they were trying to get her to be better. She knew she was a difficult kid to be around she just wished they did it less often. Seriously it's not like the other kids at school had bruises like hers, well the ones who didn't wear jackets or long sleeves anyway. Susie propped her chin on her hand as she boredly looked at the passing houses, great now she was annoyed-maybe she'd have some fun with that quiet kid?

What was his name…Kris?

Yeah, she smirked at the thought. She'd mess with him a little bit more than usual today. That should get her in a good mood.

"Stop that. It's unsightly to show your teeth like that girl, close your mouth."

She rolled her eyes beneath her hair. Yeah, she really hoped she caught Kris early so the two of them could 'hang out' together as her old man began to go into his usual speech about her teeth.

She could not wait to hang out with Kris again.

Susie couldn't keep the smile off her face as she walked home from school, sure that whole thing in the Dark World was beyond insane and sure she'd almost died a couple times but…but it was also fun.

She had fun there.

She made…friends. Actual friends! Who would have thought!

Still couldn't believe that Kris had agreed to go there again soon, she could scarcely believe that the he, they it was they not he she had to remember that, had defended her from Lancers dad at the end there. She smiled at the thought, something in her chest stirring as she reached her house and opened the door. She was having such a good day that not even her parents arguing could ruin it for her.

Unfortunately, her usual happy mood caused her to not take notice of her surroundings as she walked in. Which in turn caused her to make a fatal mistake she normally wouldn't have made.

CRASH

The dinosaur type monster froze as she looked down, her breath hitched as she witnessed the broken plate shattered on the floor. She couldn't even attempt to pick it up before she heard the thundering steps of her parents, she could only look up with wide eyes before her mothers slap sent her to the floor.

"You useless little-what have I told you!? What have I told you about doing things like this for attention!?"

"I didn't—"

A kick from her dad silenced her, her attention focused on her mom she didn't see her dad move to kick her. She couldn't tense her body, couldn't prepare for it and as she'd left the lingering wounds from the last battle unattended it felt like a sledgehammer hitting her spine.

The breath was knocked out of her lungs and her mother dragging her up didn't help. It certainly didn't help when she pushed backwards with enough force to slide her over the table and onto the kitchen floor. She curled up defensively as she heard her dads belt buckle become undone. She covered her ears to block out their words, she'd heard them all before after all.

Worthless.

Delinquent.

A waste of potential.

She couldn't focus on those words right now, right now she had to focus on curling up to weather the blows as they came. Her arms would be red tomorrow judging from how hard she was getting beat but it wouldn't be the first time.

Shit, she hoped this wouldn't hamper her day with Kris tomorrow, she really didn't want to let them down.

CRASH

Oh…oh no.

Susie looked at Kris in horror as they dropped the plate on the floor, she didn't plan on having a sleepover with them at their house but she knew better than to say no right to Toriels face. Kris was her friend and she didn't want them to get punished because Toriel thought she was an embarrassment to them.

But oh god this was worse.

"Shit, shit, shit!" She cursed up a storm as she rushed over to her friend, said friend flinching as she slid to the ground and attempted to pick up the broken pieces.

"Kris go sit on the couch, I'll take the fall for this alright?' She said, shrugging off the hand that attempted to stop her.

"Susie, you're going to cut yourself." They said bending down to try and help her.

No! Why was he wasting time here!? Susie could take it! She's the one with the tougher skin between the two of them. If Toriel caught her with the broken plates then that meant she'd get the beating not Kris!

She couldn't—she couldn't let that happen to them too!

"Kris you need to leave." She pressed, her eyes beginning to water behind her bangs.

They was confused. Why were they confused!?

"It's just a plate Susie. Are you—"

"Oh my."

Susie froze as Toriel rounded the corner, oh no. Oh no, no, no, no!

"What happened?" The goat mom said as she approached only to stop as Susie rushed forward to protect Kris.

"I-It wasn't his fault!"

"Susie wha—"

"You don't gotta hit him!"

Both Dremur family members froze as Susies voice cracked as she hugged Kris to her chest.

"L-look I know how important these things are, but Kris didn't mean to drop it okay? He was just getting a plate so I could snack on something, it's my fault it broke okay? He's not a delinquent, or worthless because of it." She closed her eyes. "Look I know that this'll hurt and all but it's my fault and I can take hits far better than Kris can."

There was a reason she was the tank in the team after all.

"So if you want to hit someone you can hit me and—"

FWUMP

Susie went deadly still as a pair of warm furry arms wrapped around her body, she blinked as she felt another pair of arms wrap around her from the front. Kris squeezed her tightly as she felt droplets land on her head from above.

"Oh, my child" Toriel spoke, her words accompanied by a choked voice. "What have you gone through to think that would be a response to an accident such as this?"

What? What did she mean by that?

"I—I don't understand." She shuffled, only succeeding in tightening the families hold on her.

"Susie…you're not worthless. Mom doesn't hit me over stuff like this." Kris spoke.

"She…doesn't?" She asked, confused. "Why? Isn't that nor—"

Toriel didn't hold back a sob this time and she could feel Kris hold her tighter as the taller monster rocked them closer to her.

"No Susie! No that's not normal, no parent should put their hands on a child like that. It's wrong! You shouldn't be called those names by your parents either, it's not right my child."

It…it wasn't normal?

All of those insults, the beatings, they weren't normal? But then…then why did her parents?

Why did they…

Susie felt tears well up in her eyes as her mind replayed years of abuse, every instance of yelling, every instance of being slapped, of being dragged and degraded. From when she was five to the day she just decided it was a normal thing to happen to her. She replayed it all as she went limp, she didn't know when she started crying, she didn't know when she buried herself in Kris's hair and Ms. Toriel carried them both up to her room.

She lost track of time.

She broke down.

She blabbered out everything when Toriel began asking her questions, she told her everything as she was comforted by the goats soothing rubs and the gripping of Kris's hand in hers.

"I need help." She whimpered, leaning into Toriels side.

She needed help and luckily she finally had people that would give it to her.
