Walking through the woods Klaus looked up at the dark sky. Night had finally fallen and the moon had risen, signaling the approach of the ritual. Everything is set up from the incantation, the sacrifices all the way to the moon's position in the sky. He sighed as he waited.
He nodded to himself as stopped, "Everything is ready."
"Come on, we're dealing with a countdown here." Damon urged as the group approached the Petrova house.
"Are you sure this is where she is?" Elena asked.
"Ric said that he saw a white coffin behind Katherine and this is their place." Jeremy explained, "Not exactly inconspicuous." He noted.
"Katherine always wanted the best." Stefan noted as he broke the lock on the door and pushed it open. He moved to walk in but hit an invisible wall, "Great."
Elena moved past Stefan without any trouble. She turned back to the group, "Blood magic. I'll look for Bonnie. I'll be quick." She assured them before she turned around.
Elena walked around the house and looked for her best friend. The foyer, living room, kitchen, she eventually resorted to going upstairs. She looked through the four bedrooms but didn't find anything. She hit a wall in frustration before she returned downstairs.
"Did you check the office!?" Damon screamed from outside.
"Not yet." She replied before she walked through the foyer and down the hall where a single door stood at the end. Entering the room she intended to walk behind the desk but bumped into something invisible. She blinked in shock before she reached out and felt a smooth surface, "The coffin."
She began to feel around the invisible object trying to find the opening. Sliding her hands down she finally found the hitch. She groaned as she lifted open the coffin. Suddenly the white coffin appeared before her and so did Boonie's legs. She opened the wrong side.
"Sorry, Bonnie." Elena whispered before she opened the second half.
She stood over her friend in nervous silence before Bonnie awoke with a gasp.
Caroline quickly took Bonnie to safety at the old witch house where John, Ric, Tyler, Matt and Elijah waited. Stefan and Damon drove up the road leading to their house. Elena sat silently in the backseat thinking about tonight. She was so busy saving Stefan, Damon and Bonnie she never really had time to think about it.
"We have to get her out of here." Damon stated, "Screw Elijah's plan."
"Damon, Klaus will kill everyone if she leaves." Stefab stated, "He killed Katherine's entire family because she ran and chased after her for five hundred years."
"Who cares? The bitch deserved it." The older brother replied, "We need to-"
"Stop!" Elena suddenly yelled, "Stop the car."
Stefan began to reply, "Elena -"
"Stop the car Stefan!" She yelled.
The vampire sighed before he pulled the car over. Elena flung the door open and walked out onto the road. The two brothers got out of the car and walked after her. The teenager tried to collect herself before she let out a sob.
Damon stepped forward, "Elena -"
"Stop, Damon just stop." She turned to face them, "You don't think I want to run, to live but if I do that everyone I love dies. Elijah told me that this elixir might not work and that it has a fifty fifty chance. I keep on wanting to think that it'll work but what if it doesn't? What if I die? I'll never get to graduate, I'll never get go to college, get married, have kids none of it and I -" Elena couldn't continue before she broke down sobbing.
Stefan pulled Elena into a tight embrace as he let her sob. Damon looked away, not being able to see Elena in such a state.
"Well this is awkward." The three of them looked up to see Drake standing in the middle of the road, "The Salvatore house is about a mile up the road so thanks for cutting the time in half." His gaze landed on the human, "You must be Elena, I'm Drake Pierce. I must say you look almost exactly like my sister. Aside from the nauseating innocence you're identical and this is coming from her twin."
"So you are that evil bitch's brother." Damon glared at him, "You had a werewolf helping you last time when you snuck up on me. This time-"
Damon suddenly dashed at Drake but he fell to the floor writhing in agony. Pain radiated throughout his entire body. A ball of fire appeared in Drake's hand, "Gotta say I'm not a fan of you trying to stall me."
Elena pulled away from Stefan, "Wait, wait!" She jumped between Damon and Drake, "Please stop!"
"Katherine was right, you are willing to do anything for the people you care about." He blew out the fireball in his hand, "But unfortunately for you so am I." He raised his towards Elena, "Let's go."
Elena looked down at Drake's hand before she looked back at Stefan and then down at Damon, "It's ok. I don't want any of you to get hurt."
Stefan moved towards Elena but he fell to the ground in pain too. It felt as if his entire body was being torn apart in different directions. Thankfully the pain stopped as soon as it started just as quickly as it started. Looking up they saw both Elena and Drake gone.
Damon was the first one on his feet, "No, dammit no!"
Bonnie paced around the basement or the old witch house. She couldn't stop despite Jeremy and Caroline's pleas. Elijah explained the plan to her and her role in it. It was all riding on her.
"Bonnie please stop." Caroline pleaded once again, "It'll all work out, Eljiah's elixir is going to work."
"I know it will but what if I fail?" She asked her friend, "One moment that's all it takes to mess it all up."
"And you won't." Jeremy said, assuringly. He put his hands on her shoulders and looked into her eyes, "I believe in you, Bonnie you can do this."
Caroline wore a look of focus on her face as did Tyler, "Stefan and Damon are here." She stated, gaining their attention, "Drake took Elena."
Bonnie nodded before she looked up at Jeremy. She raised her lips and kissed his cheek. They made their way upstairs where Matt stood. Bonnie looked at her friend nervously before he nodded in understanding. They then made their way outside where Elijah, John and Alaric waited. The two hunters were armed with stakes, vervain, guns and wooden bullets.
Bonnie looked at the original and nodded, "Let's go." Her phone then rang. She looked down to see who called her and saw it was Jenna. She quickly answered the phone, "Jenna, what is it?"
"Your friends shouldn't have meddled." Elena's voice came from the phone but it wasn't Elena.
The vampires and werewolf immediately began to listen in on the conversation.
"Katherine." Bonnie said with disdain in her voice, "Why do you have Jenna's phone?"
"All you had to do was lay back and do nothing." The vampire replied, "Literally in your case." She added.
"Why do you have her phone?" Bonnie demanded.
"You forced us to replace our vampire when you broke Stefan and Damon out of the tomb." Katherine replied, "Remember? Sweet little Luka died or did they not tell you that Drake turned him?"
Bonnie's heart stopped as her eyes landed on Jeremy, "Oh my god."
Caroline raised her hands over her mouth. Tyler's face was a mix of shock, rage and frustration. Damon was just furious. Stefan had a look of horror. Elijah wore a stoic look on his face as he watched the situation. Alaric, John and Jeremy looked concerned and confused.
"What is it?" Jeremy asked.
"What's going on?" Alaric demanded.
"You turned Jenna?" Bonnie asked, watching the look of realization grow on Jeremy's face.
"Technically it was Klaus' blood but I did snap her neck." The doppelganger replied, "And I just finished feeding her a delicious camping party so she's a fully fledged vampire now, perfect for sacrificing. Sad I had to snap her neck, on a bit of a schedule, she would've made a good vampire. But now onto the warning I'm supposed to give you." She cleared her throat, "If you try to interrupt the ritual again not only will Jenna die but Klaus will make sure that he kills everyone Elena loves. Did I do good?"
The witch blinked, "How did you know I was awake?"
"That won't matter by the end of the night." Katherine chuckled before hanging, "Do yourselves a favor and sit down and do nothing. This is grown up stuff so keep out of it." With that she hung up.
"Bitch." Damon snarled, "That fucking bitch!" He roared punching through the wooden wall of the house.
"Of all the people in Mystic Falls why did they take Jenna?" Caroline asked despairingly.
"A punishment for meddling." Elijah replied, "I suspect if you killed his werewolf Mr. Lockwood here would've taken their place."
"Either way Elena would lose someone she cared about." John stated.
"What are we gonna do, we can't let Jenna die!" Alaric said frantically.
"We need a new plan." Matt agreed, "We need to find a way to save Jenna and kill Klaus. Maybe we won't even need to risk Elena!"
"Finally someone's talking sense!" Damon exclaimed, "We have Bonnie now, all we need to do is distract the evil Wonder Twins and let her wail on Klaus."
"But that'll kill Bonnie." Stefan objected, "How do you think Elena will feel knowing her best friend died for her?"
Damon shrugged before he replied, "Maybe she'll feel a sense of gratitude. Maybe she'll be so grateful that she'll live her life to the fullest because you know. . .she'll be alive!"
"The plan must remain unchanged." Elijah stated sternly, "Klaus will be at his weakest during transition. That'll be the only opportunity we have."
"If we kill Katherine and Drake that'll leave Klaus all alone." Bonnie replied, "We have a witch, vampires, hunters, a werewolf and you. If I use my magic to weaken him to the point where I almost die. Can you, Stefan, Damon and Tyler take him down?"
"It's a slim chance, slimmer than the one before." Elijah said before he looked across the group, "But I see that all of you are already in agreement so it looks like I don't have much of a say in the matter."
Elena followed Drake through the woods. He didn't speak to her after taking her, only ordering her to follow him. She occasionally looked at the hybrid's face. He genuinely looked like he could be her twin.
Finally she decided to break the silence, "You're Katherine's brother, right?" He didn't reply, "That means Klaus killed your family and you're helping him?"
Drake gave Elena a quick glare before he looked back ahead, "Yes, Klaus killed my family. My mother, my little sister and that bastard of a father and if we back out now he'll kill us too." He stated, "The reason you're here is because you don't want the people you care about to get hurt and I'm here, helping my family's killer, is because I want my sister safe, free."
"And you think that helping Klaus will get you your freedom." Elena replied, "And you trust him?"
"Only a complete idiot would trust Klaus." He replied waving his hands igniting a trail of fire pits leading down to the quarry, "But we're tired of running. Now we want to live." He stated as he continued to walk away, following the trail of fires.
"With Kol?" Elena asked, causing Drake to stop, "You really think Klaus is going to let you have your happy ending with him and Katherine? He's just going to keep on asking for more."
"Tyler and Matt." Drake muttered and turned around to give Elena an amused look, "I find it amusing that you think you can manipulate me." He chuckled, "I already know Klaus is going to want something else in exchange for Kol and I already know what I'm going to offer him. So quit stalling and pick up the pace." He ordered, continuing on his way.
An invisible push forced Elena to stumble forward after Drake. She followed him down the trail where two rings of fire were burning. Within them were two figures. The two other sacrifices, the vampire and the werewolf.
Getting closer she suddenly stopped. Looking into the closest circle she gasped, "Jenna?"
Her aunt was on her knees in the middle of the circle. Her mouth, chin and neck were drenched with blood. The reality of the situation hit Elena like a truck. They've turned her, they've turned Jenna!
Drake grabbed her shoulder and dragged her, "Yeah, yeah shocking twist come on."
He guided her around the two circles before shoving her on the ground. A third circle ignited around her. She stood up and tried to reach towards Jenna but the fire suddenly flared up causing her to jump back. Jenna shut her eyes and whimpered at the sudden brightness and noise.
"Don't bother." Drake states as he approaches a bowl carved into a rock, "The spell seals you inside the circle until I open them." He looked down at the water in the bowl and sighed.
Katherine appeared next to him, "In other words trying to escape is useless." Elena glared at her doppelganger as she approached the circle. She knelt down to meet Elena face to face, "You don't know how much I love seeing you like this. When you die do me a favor and scream your pathetic little heart out, it'll be the cherry on top to a perfect night."
Elena glared at the vampire, "Go to hell Katherine."
"As long as you save me a spot." She smirked, "Don't worry I'll keep Stefan company while you're gone."
Elena tried to launch at Katherine only for the flames to flare up once more, "Katerina!" The two doppelgangers looked over to see Klaus entering the light of the fire, "Please show some manners and play nice with our guests."
Katherine gave Elena one last hateful look before she walked away. The doppelganger approached her brother. He looked up at the moon, "It's time." He announced before he looked to his sister, "Scour the woods, make sure no one's going to interrupt. I've put a protection spell on you, even if they put a stake through your heart they won't kill you."
Katherine nodded, "Guard dog duty, got it." Katherine then disappeared into the woods.
"Drake!" Elena screamed, "Witches are supposed to maintain the balance of nature. It's your duty to them to keep the curse sealed."
"I don't give a shit about nature." Drake replied, "Nature has only ever screwed me over since the day of my birth. The fact that breaking this curse is a huge middle finger to nature and all it represents is a huge bonus."
Klaus chuckled before he looked down at the three women, "Hello, my lovelies. Are we ready?" He turned to Drake who nodded.
"The moon has passed its peak." Drake informed. He raised his hand to Klaus, "Let's begin."
Klaus pulled the moonstone out of his pocket, "I've spent five hundred years looking for this. Hate to part with it." He handed the pale rock to Drake who held it over the bowl.
"Remember what you've got to do?" He looked up at Original who nodded. Dropping the rock into the bowl flames sparked to life. Drake began to chant as Klaus approached Jules. The ring of flames surrounding Jules died out. The werewolf's eyes shined gold as she lunged at Klaus who easily pinned her to the ground and thrust his hand into her chest. Grabbing hold of her heart he ripped it out of her chest.
"One down." The Original stood up and returned to Drake with Jule's heart. He held the heart over the flaming bowl and squeezed. The blood dripped out of the organ and into the water, "Is it working?"
"Yes." Drake answered before he continued chanting, "Onto the next one." He said looking down at Jenna.
Klaus nodded as he sauntered towards a nearby tree and broke off a branch. Breaking the branch in two he twirled the stake in his hand. He turned to look at the woman and smiled, "Hello, Jenna."
"Let her go." Elena pleated, "I understand that I have to die but she doesn't." She took a step too close to the fire and it flared up as a result.
"Careful." Klaus replied.
"Elena dont-"
"No Jenna we can't leave Jeremy alone without a family. I did everything you asked, I didn't run!" She exclaimed.
Klaus gazed at her before he chuckled, "Well, I don't recall you being on the guest list."
The others looked up to see Stefan standing at the top of a cliff, "I came to talk." He said.
Drake glared up at the Salvatore brother, "What is he up to?" He wondered before he phone vibrated.
"We have to hurry up." Caroline urged, "The sooner we kill Katherine the sooner we can save Elena."
"We can't rush into this." John stated as he led the group, "Katherine is dangerous, clever, and strong. We shouldn't underestimate her. Besides we're a little short handed."
The group was split up, Stefan left to go and distract Klaus by offering himself as the sacrifice. Damon, Alaric, Elijah and Bonnie were hidden, waiting for the perfect moment to strike at Klaus. John, Caroline, Tyler, Matt and Jeremy were scanning the woods to sneak up on Katherine and Drake and kill them.
"We're not." Matt replied, "We just want to save Elena and get this night over with."
"One bite that's all I need." Tyler stated, "After that they're as good as dead."
Jeremy sighed, "What if we. . ."
"What if we do what?" Tyler asked, turning around to look at Jeremy and gasped, "Jeremy!"
The rest of the group darted around to see a steak protruding out of Jeremy's chest. The stake was pulled out and his limp body fell to the ground revealing Katherine. She smirked at the group before he looked down at the teen and groaned, "Really boys?" She looked up at Matt and Tyler, "You gave him back his ring?" Before either of them could answer John fired his gun at Katherine who disappeared.
"Where is she?" Matt asked, aiming his rifle into the darkness.
"Texting." Katherine's voice echoed through the woods, "Believe me I'm about to be the least of your problems."
"What the hell are you talking about?!" John demanded.
Tyler suddenly screamed in agony causing the others to jump. He looked up at the moon just before his bones began breaking, "What no no!" He wailed as he fell to the floor, "But my earring!" His arms broke from under him.
"Did you forget?" Katherine's teasing voice echoed, "My brother put the spell on that earring and he just dispelled it. Back on your monthly walkabouts Tyler."
Tyler looked up at Matt and Caroline, "Run!"
Just then a tree tipped over, falling towards Matt. Without thinking John pushed Matt out of the way, taking his place as the tree fell on him. John screamed in pain as he was pinned to the floor. Caroline went to help him before Tyler growled.
"Go!" John waved them away, "Take Jeremy."
Nodding, Caroline picked up Jeremy's dead buddy before running into the woods with Matt.
Watching them go, John sighed as he let his head fall to the ground, "Hello, John." He looked up to see Katherine's malicious smile, "Goodbye, John." She grabbed his ring and pulled it off his finger before disappearing.
John let out panting breaths as he tried to pull himself out from under the tree. Hearing a low rumbling growl he looked up to see a black wolf looking down at him. He closed his eyes as the wolf bared his teeth.
"Tyler." He tried to soothe the beast but this did the opposite as the wolf pounced.
"Quite the predicament." Klaus said as he and Stefan approached the others, "You know it's funny. All this talk about preserving family, and here's Stefan granting your wish."
Elena looked shocked, "Stefan -"
"It's ok." He said assuringly.
"So Elena, who's it going to be?" Klaus asked pointing the stake at Jenna and then Stefan.
She shook her head, "No. I won't choose."
Klaus shrugged, "Fine by me. There really wasn't a choice to begin with." He said just before appearing behind Stefan and driving the stake into his back before breaking it in two leaving the pointed end inside.
"No! Stefan!" Elena exclaimed as the vampire hunched over in pain.
"I have other plans for your boyfriend." Klaus stated, "I want him alive. But for now. . ." He spun around and snapped Stefan's neck causing Elena to gasp, "Dragomir if you please?" He gestured towards Jenna.
Drake nodded before he waved his hand lowering the barrier around Jenna, "No, Jenna." Elena tried to take a step forward but was stopped by the flames.
"It's alright Elena. I know what I have to do." She proclaimed before she dashed towards Drake but she was knocked down by Katherine who arrived just in time.
"Sorry sweetie but you'll have to be faster than that." Katherine then eyed Klaus as he pinned down the newborn vampire, "Make it quick I just stopped a hunting party meant to ambush us. Damon, Alaric and Bonnie weren't with them."
"Consider me cautious." Klaus then raised the stake and plunged it into Jenna's heart.
"No! Jenna!" Elena screamed as she watched Jenna's life leave her body.
"Move, Klaus." Drake said, raising his hand towards Jenna.
The original stepped away from the corpse just before it flew across the clearing. Drake had Jenna's body hovering over the flaming bowl. Removing the stake, her blood spilled out from her chest and into the water. He continued chanting the spell.
"My guess is they were waiting for the sound of gunfire." Klaus said as he watched Jenna's body being tossed aside, "Seems your friends won't be getting the signal anytime soon."
Whilst they waited for the next stage of the spell Katherine stood by Drake. She thought back to the hunting party and their goal. It wasn't simply to ambush them or to postpone the ritual. They wanted to not only kill Klaus but Drake and Katherine too. How could they be so sure that they'd kill the three of them.
Katherine shook her head, "No."
Klaus turned to the doppelganger and asked, "What's that?"
"Bonnie can't handle the power needed to kill you. They won't let their friend die just to kill you." Katherine stated, "There must be something else. Something that can guarantee your death. We have to end this now."
Klaus squinted his gaze at her before he spoke, "Stay on guard." He turned to her brother, "Dragomir, it's time to end this."
Drake nodded as the ring around Elena lowered. The original grabbed the girl and hauled her up, "Sorry for the poor manners darling but I've just been warned of a possible threat to my life." He dragged her up to the altar passing by Jenna's body in the process.
Stefan tried to get up from the floor but Katherine put her foot on his back, planting him on the ground, "Sorry handsome but my freedom is riding on this."
Stefan watched helplessly as Klaus sunk his teeth into Elena's throat. Drake's chants grew louder and louder as the fire from the bowl burned brighter. Drinking the last of her blood Klaus let Elena go. When Elena's dead body hit the floor the flames immediately died out..
Klaus stumbled away from the altar as he felt his wolf side finally unlocking. A thousand years waiting for this moment and it's finally happening, "I can feel it." He gasped, "It's happening." He looked up at the moon before his bones began breaking as he began to transform into his wolf form.
Just then Klaus was flung across the clearing. In the sky thunder roared and lightning flashed as the wind howled. The fires tracing the trail were reignited, revealing Bonnie as she chanted a spell. Klaus wailed in pain as the magic began to weaken him.
"Not today." Drake raised his hand before he was grabbed from behind. He struggled against the grip before he looked up to see Damon's face.
Seeing Drake in trouble, Katherine moved to help him before blood splattered out of her chest. She screamed as she fell to the ground next to Stefan. She rolled on her back to see Alaric standing on top of the cliff. He aimed to fire at her again before she grabbed Stafan and placed him on top of her as a shield.
"Kat!" Drake exclaimed before he grabbed Damon's arm and flipped him over his shoulder and to the ground. He swung his leg back and kicked Damon across the clearing. He looked up at Alaric before he chanted a spell making the human fall to the floor in pain.
Bonnie continued to cast her spell as Drake dashed across the clearing and flung Stefan off of his sister. He began removing the wooden bullets when Katherien gasped "Elijah."
Following Katherine's gaze he froze at the sight of the original. "No." He used his magic to pull the rest of the bullets out, "We have to stop him."
"Hello, brother." Elijah greeted before he plunged his hand into Klaus' chest, "In the name of our family, Niklaus -"
"I didn't bury them at sea!" Klaus suddenly exclaimed, "Their bodies are safe. If you kill me you'll never find them!" He frantically said.
"Don't listen to him, Elijah!" Stefan yelled from his position on the floor.
"It's the truth!" Drake appeared besides Klaus and placed his hand on Elijah's arm, "I saw them. When I retrieved Klaus' body I saw them. Elijah please." He begged, "Please spare him. For Kol."
"Listen to him Elijah!" Katherine appeared behind the original. Elijah looked up at Katherine with a glare, "You of all people should know the connection he and Kol share."
"Spare him and I'll take you all out." Bonnie warned.
"You can't." Drake announced, pulling down the collar of his jacket revealing a tattoo, "Look familiar?" He raised his hand towards her and chanted a spell.
Bonnie tried to counter the spell but she couldn't tap into her magic. She shook her head, "No." She gasped before she fell to the floor.
Elijah looked to Stefan, "I'm sorry."
Pulling the stake out of Stefan's back Damon glared at Elijah, "Like hell you are!" Damon dashed towards the group intent on killing, only to be knocked down by a large black wolf.
Watching Damon as he attempted to wrestle Tyler off Katherine said, "That's our queue."
Stefan got to his feet just in time to see the four of them disappear through the flames.
