David and I met up with the others after I was done eating; well more like they met up with us. We went to walk the boardwalk and talk about what needs to happen before I go through "the change", when a tanned arm swung around my right shoulder, and its twin around David's left.
Paul gives us a goofy grin, one that I would associate with being high, but I wasn't sure if vampires can even FEEL the effects of drugs and alcohol. How does the undead feel the effects of drugs? Then again Why would he smoke weed constantly if he couldn't feel it.
"Hey little sister, not interrupting anything am I?"
I rolled my eyes good naturedly, "If you were, the moment is gone now." I teased with a smile. Though I love spending time with David alone, I was curious about Dwayne, Paul, and Marko. They were David's coven brothers, the people he chose to spend an eternity around clearly, they had to be interesting people.
"What are you guys whispering about?" Marko asked curiously, from beside Paul. Paul dropped his arms from our shoulders to pluck a joint from somewhere on his person and place it into his lips.
"About my family."
"Michael? What a wuss."
I laughed and shook my head.
"No, not him, My mom, and Sam. I don't want to leave her in a bad spot. However, that Max guy seems serious about her so maybe she will be fine." I thought aloud to myself.
There was some hysterical laughter behind me, and I looked back at the boys confused, then switched my gaze to David who was sporting a knowing smirk.
"What?"
"Max is also a vampire." Dwayne informed as he fell into step beside David.
"He is my Sire," David explained, grabbing a cigarette from behind his head and lighting it. I looked at him dubiously.
"You have a sire?"
"Yes, Max is the reason we changed Michael. He thought we would need a mother." David's face scrunched up in disgust, something I found amusing and quite cute. "He figured that if we had one or more of you join us, it would make it easier for Lucy to agree to stay with him."
I raised an eyebrow, "Like a big vampire family?" I questioned, the boys roared with laughter again, but all were nodding their heads in confirmation. It seemed odd, I never thought of Vampires wanting families, or wanting to be adoptive parents. Thinking about Max though, I guess it was very fitting with his character.
"Max has a bleeding heart, it's what moved him to change me when he did and encouraged me to change some of my brothers." David said gruffly, he sounded like a teen upset about his "Parents" babying him, which was amusing in itself.
That made sense, mom told me about Kiesha, the pretty woman who sits at the counter most nights. She apparently was a runaway a few years ago, looking dirty, and starving when Max offered her a job. Now she is living comfortably, and she is still human!
"That's actually sweet." I admitted, twiddling my fingers. The boys blanched and gagged, and David rolled his eyes, making me laugh once again. They were such children sometimes, but I guess that comes with the territory of never growing old.
I know they were disgruntled with the idea of a "mother figure", especially since they have the whole rebellious teen thing going on, but a piece of me was inexplicably relieved. This meant, if all went well, I wouldn't have to lose my mom, fake my death, or "run away", and leave her hurt and confused.
I wasn't sure if my mom would be willing to kill, to be with Max, or even to stay closer to Mike, and I. Mom seemed like such a sweet kindhearted spirit; how would she take a life? Then again mom's passion has always been for children. Maybe being with Max, and understanding his need to also save children (In his own way), would be something she'd fall in love with. In a way Max and mom were very similar, and I thought they would mix well.
"How does Max feed? I mean he seems too… caring, to be taking lives." I asked, looking up at David respectfully.
"He is very selective with his choice." David explained carefully, flickering his eyes to me apprehensively, probably unsure if he should really tell me this. I was hoping by now he would feel more comfortable with talking about his diet. I wasn't blind to them now, and it really didn't phase me; It seems like it will take some time to convince him.
"We follow some rules, no children, no women with children, but that's about it. We tend to like a specific type, The Surf Nazi's that like to strut around here. They think they own this place and are easy to rile up." David started, taking a drag of his cigarette between sentences, and grinning at the end. I am sure he was imagining previous rows with these Surf Nazi guys.
"Max only goes after the undesirables, like the men from earlier tonight." David explained slowly, keeping an eye on my face to see my reaction. I nodded, and rested my head on his arm in thought, trying to put out the thoughts of the two men.
I was saved, David came in time, and got rid of those assholes, and the world is a better place without them in it, if you ask me.
"I like that, this place is crawling with those kinds of people it seems." David put an arm around me and rubbed my outer arm, as if to wipe away any unwanted memories. Paul gave some teasing "aww's" from behind us, that had David sending a warning glare his way for.
"Tomorrow night, we will be initiating Michael fully." David declared a sly smirk on his lips. The boys gave loud cheers, and practically danced about, giddy with excitement. I think they just wanted to freak Mike out, and show him what he is really made of.
"Can I go with you?" I asked innocently, Dave looked down at me, his eyes drooped ever so slightly. "I don't know if that is such a good idea, Kitten." He drifted off, seeing my pout.
"Please? I won't freak out, I promise." Okay I know I sound like a begging child, but I couldn't help it, I don't like feeling like I am left out. Especially when my rude ass brother gets to join in on the fun, albeit usually as the butt of a joke, but still!
"Oh, let her come David!" Paul whined with, giving David a pat on his shoulder then taking a long drag from his joint.
"I think she can handle it." Marko chimed in, I threw him a thankful smile, for believing in me.
"She will have to see it sooner or later, might as well get it over with." Dwayne added, his voice wasn't pleading and playful like the other two, but matter of fact. I can tell already that he is often the voice of reason, 2nd to David. David kept silent a little while longer, still contemplating whether to let me tag along or not.
"It's not you I'm worried about." David spoke, his eyes traveling down to my arm that was currently entwined with his, the one that was currently sporting a nasty bruise and some healing puncture wounds from one angry Michael.
"Michael will have little control, and having a full human, sister or not, beside him during this initiation, risks him turning on you."
Paul and Marko let out a simultaneous "Ohhhh, yeah", while I couldn't stop the pout forming on my features.
"Michael ruins everything" I pouted, my face crest-fallen and probably sounding every bit like a whiny kid, who didn't get their way. The boys laughed again this time giving me a reassuring pat on my shoulder or back.
"Don't cry little sister, we will make it a real party when it's your time for initiation." Paul soothed, Marko and Dwayne gave sounds of agreement.
"I will come by after it's over and get you okay?" David reasoned, squeezing my arm gently. I nodded in agreement to those conditions. At least I still get to see them tomorrow night, and if Michael feeds maybe his attitude will brighten up.
"Sweet! Now let's party on!" Paul cheered as he started to take up the lead. The talk about important matters were over for the night, and now we all just wanted to have a little fun. I really appreciated this after the first half of my night. The fight with Michael, and the run in with the two undesirables was enough to make me want to just shut down and sleep for the next week.
Yet, when I get to spend time with these boys, all the heaviness from prior situations just melts away. I felt safe, cared for, and the time I spent with them left me feeling overtly happy. Excitement crackles like electricity through my veins, and I just feel this great warmth, and pleasant feeling fill my body. I could spend an eternity with these guys, especially David and never grow bored. Luckily for me, eternity is going to be my reality.
I am unsure if the boys truly found the rides and lights and foods as thrilling as I did, or if they were just playing at my own amusement. No matter which was true though, I felt like I had the best night at the boardwalk yet! I rode the octopus again, this time with Paul, who tried to stand in the booth and almost flew right out of the seat when we really started going.
This made the conductor of the ride vehemently angry with us. He tried to reprimand Paul about reckless behavior, but it fell on deaf ears. Paul barely gave him a glance walking by and dragging me along to the next ride.
I went on a fast-spinning ride that had you sticking to the walls as it went around, with Marko. We were all suppose to buckle up so when the ride slowed, we can safely stay on our own two feet. However, as soon as the ride started up, Marko was able to take off the belt and wiggle his body around to stick upside down.
Luckily with the ride going so fast, none of the park employees caught this, just us who were on the ride with him. I thought it looked fun, but I was unable to move a muscle by the time I thought to try to change my position. When the ride slowed enough Marko started to move back into the correct position, as to not raise any alarms.
Apparently with him being a vampire he could stay like that as long as he wanted, and never land on his head. That would have been questionable of course once the ride stopped, so I was glad he turned back around at the last minute. Him turning back also avoided us getting yelled at by more employees here, since none were able to catch him breaking their rules.
At some point throughout the night, I told Marko how Much I loved his patch-work jacket, and that prompted him into making sure I got one similar to his own. He mentioned he had an old jacket with a few patches already on it that he can work on for me. I told him he didn't have to do that, but he insisted, and I was excited to have my own jacket of patches.
Dwayne and David walked with me through a small book shop I didn't know existed at the board walk. It apparently is a place Dwayne visits on the regular. The books are often well worn and used, but are still whole and readable, at a very low price. If you didn't mind faded covers, small tears, or stains on the pages, it wasn't a bad place to get something to read.
Dwayne and I both picked out a few different novels. Mine were all Fiction Fantasy/Adventure, or Horror/Thrillers, While Dwayne seemed to stick to Classics, dystopian novels, or non-fiction reads. David mentioned he wasn't one to sit and read, but I didn't miss him plucking a small black book off it's shelf and pocketing it.
David and I were finally able to get on a ride together; actually, we were able to go on multiple rides together. We got on the roller coaster, we stood in line for a couple nights earlier; the security guard from the other night was no longer the one manning the station. I wasn't sure if that was because they all filter through different rides, or if the boys had something to do with it.
I didn't dwell on it though, I made my choice, and with them being vampires, they MUST drink blood, like it or not. I was just happy to be able to have a life with him at all, and I was happy to be able to finally get that ride with him. He was completely calm throughout the ride, only giving me a small smile while I screamed and laughed.
We also took a ride on the Ferris Wheel, which could have been utterly romantic, and please the hopeless romantic within me, if it wasn't for the rowdy boys in the other cars. Paul, and Marko to be more specific. They were rocking their car so hard that we could feel it in our own car above them. They also were yelling and laughing loud enough for half the park to hear.
At some point they were both standing up in the car and jumping violently to shake nearly the entire wheel. I had a death grip on David, terrified that they would somehow knock the whole thing over. I was shocked the employee wasn't stopping the ride to kick them right off, but I spotted the man with his feet up on the control box, and his hat over his eyes.
That explained the abnormally long ride, it wasn't just my fear of falling out that made time stand still. David kept an arm around me, trying to keep me calm. It worked after a bit, I was able to melt into his embrace, and just forget the abnormal shaking of the equipment, and focus solely on the company.
It honestly felt perfect for the moment.
After a while David took me home, despite my claims of not being tired; which weren't at all convincing when said between yawns. Not to mention every time I blinked, it took a few seconds for my eyes to open back up. He smartly ignored my protests settling me on his bike, and drove off towards the lodge. Once we made it there, I was nearly half asleep on the bike already; it was a miracle that I didn't fall right off during the ride, but then again David may have had something to do with that.
Once he pulled into the driveway, he had me point out the window that led straight into my bedroom. He wasted no time in lifting me up into his arms bridal style, my arms wrapping around his neck instinctively, as he flew up to the window.
"So, you just fly? You don't turn into a bat or something?" My words were slurred with sleep, and David chuckled at my antics.
"Nope we don't really turn into bats, sorry to disappoint you." David then used the hand originally supporting my back to pry open the window and hunch over a bit to step foot into my small bedroom. As he did this a thought popped into my head. I thought about how David and them may have brought Michael into his bedroom last night.
I had no doubt they probably snuck him in through the window as well, and the image of David or any of the boys carrying Michael bridal style through the window to lay him in his bed, made the giggles start to erupt.
"What's so funny?"
I giggled some more, and looked up into his curious blues. "Is this how you got Michael into bed the other night?" Once saying it out loud my giggled turned into full belly laughter, that David tried to quiet with a gentle hand smothering the sounds. "No, we held him by his foot and tossed him in." This started a whole new fit of giggles, now that I know why Michael looked the way he did that morning.
Just tossed through the window by his foot, he was awfully lucky that he even landed on the bed in the first place and that he didn't just crash and lay on the floor. David laid me carefully into the bed, a giggle or two still escaping me, as he helped me kick off my shoes.
There was a short moment where the giggling stopped, and I laid there smiling at him. I lifted my hands up to grasp the collar of his jacket and pull him down into kiss. One that started out sweet, and innocent, but soon became a little heated after he started sucking on my bottom lip.
There were a few good minutes of heated, breathtaking kisses, before I once again needed to come up for air. I was a little disappointed that I always had to be the one who broke away first, but my disappointment was overshadowed by the lustful haze I was in at the moment. I pushed down the more heated sensation, knowing we couldn't be doing any that tonight anyway.
"Stay here for a bit?" I asked running my hands up and down the collar of his jacket, and my fingers lightly passed the collar of his shirt.
"Kitten -" it was a warning, but I shook my head.
"I know you can't stay, I just mean until I fall asleep?" I ran my hands across his shoulders and arms. "Please?" I added for good measure, mustering up the best puppy dog eyes I can muster. He stared down at me for a few seconds, with a face that said he wasn't going to fall for my pleas, however he soon rolled his eyes and sighed.
"Only until you fall asleep."
I could have squealed, but knowing it was so late, I settled for a large smile, and gave him a big kiss on the cheek. It took only a minute to convince him to get out of his large jacket, revealing that he wore just a simple black Tee under it. I also convinced him to take the gloves off, before settling down on my bed. I laid against his side, arm wrapped around his torso, and head laying on his chest.
He had one hand propped behind his head to keep it a little more elevated, while the other was wrapped around me, his now bare hand gently sliding up and down my arm. I relished in the moment; being able to lay in his embrace, even for a little bit, was something I cherished.
I didn't know how to explain it, it was too sudden to be feeling the way I do about him, but I just knew the feelings weren't a fluke. They were real, I just knew deep down, that David was someone special to me, and that what we have is going to last for the expanse of time. I felt like I found home when I was with him.
With these thoughts and feelings in mind, I drifted off into a peaceful sweet-dreamed slumber.
The next morning, I woke up in a warm sleepy haze. I felt comfortable enough to go right back to sleep if I truly wanted, cuddling into a warm fabric that smelled distinctly of David. I felt more at peace in that moment, than I have ever felt in my life so far. That was until I registered that it was David's scent, and the sun was shining brightly through my window.
I sat up with a start, my heart beating wildly and painful, as dread pooled into my stomach. I searched my bed wildly, now wide awake, when relief washed over me like an overwhelming wave. David did leave before the sun came out, he was safe and fine. I laid back down, huffing a huge sigh of relief, when I noticed the fabric covering me did not feel like my normal blanket.
I palmed the material and brought it to my face, smiling stupidly when I realized that was where his scent was coming from. He didn't take his coat with him last night, opting to cover me with it like a blanket before heading back to the safety of his fallen hotel. I brought up the jacket to my face and inhaled, he smelt of wood smoke, a pleasant spice, like cinnamon, and faintly cigarette smoke.
I usually was not a fan of cigarettes, their smell or taste, but it was always so faint on him that the smell wasn't bothersome, and his kisses never tasted like them at all. I had a feeling that was another perk of his vampirism.
After deciding that I spent enough time being a creep and sniffing the fabrics he wore, I finally rolled out of bed, stretching my entire body up. I carefully laid his jacket out on my bed, to keep it from wrinkling and skipped down the hall to hop in the shower and start getting ready for the day.
It was already creeping into the afternoon by the time I made my presence known and walked down the steps. "Well good morning sunshine, finally up?" Mom quipped while slowly stirring something in a pan on the stove top.
"Sorry mom, late night." I went to the fridge, searching a few seconds before pulling out the half empty gallon of orange juice.
"And was it with that boy? David was it?" She asked, trying, and failing to seem casual, as a smile started splitting her face. I would normally whine embarrassed, but a big grin just made its way to my features when I thought of him.
"Yeah that's right, on both accounts." I admitted and went to stand by her side to see what she was cooking. It looked like she was making a large pot of spaghetti. "I'm glad you're so happy and having fun hun. However, take it from me, being a mom in your teens isn't any fun." Mom warned, reaching for some seasonings to sprinkle into the sauce. I blanched and brought the cup up to my lips.
"It isn't like that mom! David and I never… You don't have to worry about that." I finally settled on, trying to will my cheeks to stop overheating at the thought. I was pretty sure it truly was nothing to worry about. I doubt someone of the undead could produce and carry a baby. It would be one of the big things I will be giving up being with David, granted I never really thought of kids before, but with mom's comment I just realized that it will no longer be an option I have.
I thought about if that was something, I would end up missing or regretting a few years down the line but relinquished the thought. It was too late to be thinking those things now, and honestly, I was still sure in my decision to be with David. I don't think the need for a child will ever come up, and if it did, then that will be a bridge David and I can cross when we get there.
"I'm sorry Hun, it's just between Michael and You, I worry." She said placing a hand on my shoulder, the concern clear in her eyes. I briefly wondered what she meant by that but then remembered Michael went to see Star last night.
'Did he sleep with her already?'
My nose scrunched up in disgust. Don't think about it Jac, we don't need the mind melting mental images of either of your brothers being physically with anyone! We know it is inevitable, but we don't have to think about it.
"Glad you're being careful hun."
"Moooom, please." I begged her to stop the conversation. Thinking about David in that Manner was not going to keep my head clear, and right now there are some seriously important matters to worry about before I get carried away with those kinds of thoughts.
"Alright, alright, I'm sorry." Mom placed a kiss on my forehead before grabbing some dry noodles and setting them in the boiling tall pan.
"What is all this for?" I asked, gesturing to the grand meal mom was preparing.
"Oh, it's for Max, he is coming over for dinner."
"A second date already? Go mom! So I am assuming the date last night went well?" I wiggled my eyebrows at her playfully.
She laughed, taking a large spoon and stirring the noodles once before setting a lid atop the pan.
"Oh Jac, it was wonderful, Max is the perfect gentleman, and we compliment each other so well. I told him things I never could talk to your father about, and he just adores children." She had a soft dazed gaze, clearly in her own little world.
"mom?"
"Sorry Jac, you probably think I'm crazy, it's too soon huh?"
I shook my head knowing that she certainly wasn't crazy; clearly, I was feeling the same thing for David, that she was for Max. In any normal circumstance it would have been crazy, but this is no normal circumstance. This was dealing with immortal creatures. They would not be chasing after someone for anything other than a meal unless it was a serious situation.
"Nope, I just think you're in love." I said dipping a finger in the spaghetti sauce and rushing it to my lips for a taste before my finger registered the burn. She nodded, humming happily, a soft smile on her lips.
"I think so too. Thanks for encouraging me to stay hun, it truly was one of the best nights I had in a very long time." I waved off her praise, nonchalantly. "Don't sweat it mom, you deserved it." I reminded her, before looking at the cleaned but empty table.
"Would you like me to set the table?" I was already heading to the cabinets to grab some plates before she gave me an answer.
"Yes please, I was hoping for a family dinner so set out plates for all of us, besides Grandpa. He ran off when he heard we were having company." I hummed a response, grabbing 5 plates from the cabinet and walking them over to the table carefully.
I was able to set the table up neatly and stood back to admire my handywork, before heading back to the kitchen to see what else I could help with. Just then Michael made his appearance downstairs, it was obvious he just woke up. It looks like he has been sleeping later and later.
"Michael, Max is coming over for Dinner, I'd like you to meet him." Mom called out as she plated some bread rolls.
"Can't, I have plans." I leaned over from the kitchen to give him a hard look. It was still too early for the Boys to be out and about so that means he was once again ignoring his duties to Sam. Those duties being, "Figuring out what has happened to him", and pushing them off to spend more time with Star. Mom huffed from the counter where she was placing breadsticks in a basket; annoyance shown in her actions.
"It's only a few weeks till school starts, and when it does, things are changing around here." Mom warned, not even bothering to send Michael a look. Her tone made it clear enough that she meant business, too bad the changes that might be made in 3 weeks from now aren't the ones she is probably thinking of.
"Got to go mom." Michael bit out and headed towards the door. His sour mood was starting to become the norm around here, and I was getting tired of it fast.
I continue putting the finishing touches on the table, like some small décor, and prettily folded napkins; making it look as nice as possible. I then carried one plate back into the kitchen seeing as Mike will not be joining us tonight.
As I was on my tiptoes setting the plate back on the stack in the cupboard I heard a vaguely familiar "Hello" from the entrance to the kitchen. I jumped and snapped my head towards the doorway to see Max. He was dressed sharply as per usual, wearing a light cream blazer, over his white and navy striped shirt and navy tie.
"Hello, I didn't hear you come in!" Lucy exclaimed as she brought the basket of breadsticks to the table.
"Is it bad luck for the guest to see the food before the dinner?" He asked, following mom into the dining room. I rolled my eyes at the hint of a dad joke in there, but kept quiet, to let them have their moment.
I took a scoop of ice cubes and set them in a large pitcher before filling it up with water. As I went to bring the pitcher into the dining room, I nearly ran into Sam and two strange boys in the hallway.
I looked at them, an eyebrow raised holding the pitcher of water away from them. Both sported clothing that looked like they have been rolling around in the dirt. The shorter boy with lighter brown hair wore an army green jacket and red bandana, and the other with darker brown hair wore some odd looking jumpsuit.
I did not like the way their eyes were roaming my body, but I reminded myself that they were just 14-year-old boys, and would look at any girl that way.
"Who are they?" I aimed my question towards Sam, pointing to the two dweebs on his left with a jab of my chin.
"Edgar and Alan. The Frog Brothers." Sam introduced them.
"Vampire hunters." The one with the bandana, Edgar said, his voice a weird gravely sound, as if he was purposely trying to make his voice sound lower than what it naturally would be.
"Vampire hunters? Really Sam?" I placed a hand on my hip, giving Sam a look of disapproval.
"They said they could help." He defended himself, voice squeaking a bit at the end. I threw my head up in a groan and brought my fingers to pinch the bridge of my nose.
"Sam, they don't look like they even came face to face with a vampire before." I hissed, trying to keep my voice down, as to not alarm Mom or worse the actual Vampire in the other room. I leaned back to look at mom and Max having a moment in the empty Dining Room; mom standing on her toes to meet Max's kiss. I then looked back at the boys and pointed a stern finger their way.
"Look if you dare ruin this dinner for mom, a blood thirsty vampire is the LAST thing you will have to be worried about, got it?" I narrowed my eyes menacingly, practically hissing out the threat, watching their eyes widen ever so slightly. A fact I am sure if asked they would deny.
I turned on a heel and continued towards the dining room with the water, throwing on a sweet smile to hide my annoyance with Sam, and his friends.
"Are you sure she isn't one of them?"
"No, She has always been that Scary."
When I reached the Dining Room, I cleared my throat to warn Max and mom of the intrusion before they were caught by the boys in their embrace, and Sam made it seem weird.
"Thanks hun, uh you remember Max right?" Mom's face was flushed slightly, and a hand on her lips. She certainly wasn't that great at hiding her previous actions to keep down the embarrassment.
"Of course, good to see you again Max. I'll be back, I need to grab more plates." I said begrudgingly and headed off to the kitchen.
"more plates?"
"Hey mom, these are my dinner guests -'' I Rolled my eyes, he had such a lame, awkward way to introduce uninvited guests.
After I came back with the plates everyone was already sitting at the table, so I took the far end of the table across from mom. We all plated up without much conversation, just eager to get some food on our tummys, but I kept a watchful eye on the boys. Something I knew was making them uncomfortable every time they happened to look my way.
"This is really good Lucy." Max complimented taking another bite of twirled spaghetti into his mouth.
"Our mom has always been a fantastic cook, practically a chef." I complimented, and not so subtly bragging about her to Max.
"Oh Jac, that's a bit of an exaggeration." Mom spoke earnestly, but Max followed suit with me.
"Oh you're just being modest Lucy, this truly is a fantastic meal, I'm sure Jac knows what she's talking about." He gave me a friendly wink, one that said he knew exactly what I was doing and appreciated the effort.
"Whew someone has bad breath!" mom exclaimed jokingly, trying to change the subject I am sure. The boys all stopped eating and immediately looked at Max while he continued to take another bite of mom's cooking.
I rolled my eyes, and a little piece of me was even offended, THAT was even one of the signs. I have kissed David many times now, and his breath certainly did not stink!
The culprit was truly Nanook who was practically breathing right on mom, wanting some of the food on her plate.
"Nanook get down." Sam ordered, clearly disappointed that it wasn't Max.
After a few more minutes of trying to enjoy our meal Sam and Edgar shared a look, before Sam picked up a little pretty glass bowl with some type of grated ingredient within it.
"Would you like some parmesan Max?"
Max gratefully took the container and sprinkled a healthy amount of it onto his plate of spaghetti. As soon as he took a bite though, Max sounded as if he was choking. I looked up concerned that he might actually be in distress.
"Are you okay?" mom asked, leaning over the table a bit to pat his back.
"Yeah, it's not Parmesan. It's Garlic." eyebrows furrowed, I watched as mom picked up the container of "parmesan" that Sam freshly grated today for dinner. She sniffed the contents before scrunching up her nose.
"Oh garlic, how did that happen?" Mom asked, while setting the glass of garlic back down on the table. I shot Sam a Look, one that when he caught, I was able to physically see his little Adam's apple bob up and down.
While mom and Max stayed oblivious, I mouthed over a warning to Sam.
'You better knock it off!' I pointed my fork at him, to show him I meant business. I will not hesitate to kick them all out of the house if I had to. Sam this time took my warning seriously, but his friend beside him wasn't going to give up.
"Here, would you like some water to help wash it down?" Edgar asked, grabbing the cup of water on the furthest side of Sam, and quite obviously threw the water on Max's lap, feigning that it was an accident. Max jumped to his feet, and mom followed suit taking a napkin and patting Max down the best she could.
"What has gotten into you boys!?" Mom asked frantically, trying to help Max.
"Does it burn?" Sam asked, large eyes wide, and hoping.
"Does it burn?" Max laughed and shook his head. "No, it's freezing cold."
Mom continue to dab at his shirt and pants, when I saw the two weird boys stand and head towards the kitchen light. I rushed up and out of my seat, intercepting them right before they could touch the switch.
I quickly snatched an ear each from the annoying brats, and started dragging them out of the dining room, Sam following suit pleading quietly.
"Jac please let them go."
"Hell no! For what? So, they can further ruin mom's date with possibly the most decent guy mom has ever met?" I growled at him, still dragging the whimpering boys by their ears to the front door of the house.
"We have reason to believe he is a vampire." One of the boys said through hisses of pain.
"Oh really? Well, none of your tests have really been effective, have they?" I threw my hands forward and let go of their ears in front of the front door. I watched them intently with hands on my hips, and my foot tapping impatiently as they rubbed their now bright red ears.
"Get out! You guys have done enough for the night." They stood there for a bit not moving, and not saying a word, looking between Sam and I. Probably waiting for Sam to defy me, but even if he did it wouldn't change a thing, Sam is 14, I am 17, I have a lot more authority than he does in this situation.
"Get out!" I yelled impatiently, resulting in them scrambling to open the door, and get far away from me.
"If you aren't dead, we will reassess tomorrow." Edgar said hurriedly to Sam before slamming the door shut. I turned towards Sam, crossing my hands over my chest, and giving Sam a heated glare.
"They will not be reassessing anything Sam! If you haven't forgotten, our brother is a half vampire!"
"That's why I called them! They know how to undo it, we just have to kill the head vampire, then all the half vampires turn back into humans." I froze, well that isn't going to do at all.
"And you are harassing Max Because?" I continued trying to get more information out of him.
"Well this all started when Mom met Max, and his dog seemed like a hound of hell so I figured..." I sighed relieved, but to Sam, it probably just seemed like a tired sigh. They didn't know if Max was a vampire, they just made gross assumptions. Granted they were correct, but if you think someone is a vampire based on their dog, and timing, then 90 percent of the world population could be one.
"Sam, I understand what you're trying to do, but those guys are just kids. Have they even killed a vampire before?" Sam shook his head no, looking down at the ground in silent defeat. Once more relief, they truly are just dumb rookie kids trying to play monster hunter.
"We can't just put our trust in a bunch of little boys Sam, and we can't just kill the vampires."
"you're only saying that because you are dating one! Michael told me you were!" I rolled my eyes at the accusation and made a mental note to smack Michael later for having such a big fat mouth.
"Sam, I won't be discussing this with you further tonight. Right now, I need you to march your little butt back into that dining room, make up a lame excuse as to why your friends have left, and apologize to Max and mom." I pointed down the hall, in the direction I expected him to start walking in the next few seconds.
"But-"
"I mean it! March!" I put a hand on his shoulder and shoved him forward, pushing him in the direction he needed to be going. Hopefully if he apologizes now we can salvage this dinner and Max and Mom can grow even closer together.
Sam did as I asked, apologizing, and saying his friends were not feeling too good, and went home early for the night. Mom being the nurturing woman she was, genuinely hoped they were okay, and started feeling better tomorrow.
We were able to get Max to stay and finish dinner with mom, and I ever the romantic, rounded up Sam and sent him to his room with a tub of ice-cream I stole from grandpa's freezer to keep him content. Then went to the small record player in the living room and set up an Elvis Classic. The first song being the ever famous "I Can't Help Falling in Love with You".
I then watched from a vantage point on the stairs to see Max take the opportunity I gave him, to ask mom to dance. I watched for a few seconds, seeing him twirl mom around in the living room, before deciding they can manage themselves the rest of the night. I have done enough to steer this in the right direction, and now it was up to them.
I took up residence within my bedroom, turning on my own stereo and leaving the sound down low, so as to not disturb the love birds downstairs. I grabbed one of the newer books I just bought before the move here. It was published recently about a year ago, from Stephen King himself. It was simply titled 'IT'.
Sitting on my bed, my feet stretched out ahead of me; I took David's coat that was still on the bed where I left it, and laid it across my body for comfort. Now that I was all comfy I dived into the pages of my new read.
I was able to get through about a 4th of the book, when there came a tapping on my window; the sudden sound startling me and causing me to fall right out of bed. I searched my room frantically to be sure there were no creepy murderous clowns around, before my eyes fell on the very amused face of David, floating right outside my bedroom window.
I huffed, and placed the book a-top my bed, a light blush dusting my cheeks knowing that David just watched my embarrassing display of fear. I crossed the bedroom quickly, opening the window wide, for him.
"Hey there stranger." I grinned, pushing aside my embarrassment, and wrapping my hands around his neck in a hug.
"A little jumpy today?" He asked, fully climbing into my bedroom, and returning the affection.
"Oh, I was just reading about a clown that tears apart children and devours them." I said, nonchalantly jabbing a thumb back to the reason for my fear, still lying on the bed. David raised an eyebrow in disbelief.
"What? I don't like clowns alright." I huffed, pushing my face into his neck, to avoid eye contact, while I am still flustered. After a few seconds of just standing there in his embrace, I remembered what also Lied on my bed, and reached my head back to get a good look at him. His arms were still bare, looks like he ditched the gloves tonight since he left his jacket with me.
I rubbed my hands up and down his arms slowly, feeling the muscles tense under my finger tips, and committing it to memory.
"It's nice being able to see a little more than just your face." I teased, but knew it was very true. I loved being able to touch him, skin to skin contact with him sent little pleasurable jolts of electricity through my body.
"enjoy it while you can, I rarely go without my jacket." I smiled up at him and placed a gentle kiss to the scruff on his chin. I am convinced that his face just stays in this, 5 O'clock shadow state, seeing as it doesn't look like it ever shrinks down or grows out.
"How did it go?" I asked, and waited on baited breath for his answer. I wasn't sure how Michael was going to take the final initiation, but I hoped the outcome wasn't too bad.
"He fought it for a long while, but in the end, he caved to his natural instincts, he is now fully turned." David sounded pleased, which gave me so much relief. That did mean however, that Michael will now not be able to return to the house. He would have to sleep in the cave with the rest to avoid the sunlight from now on.
"How is he taking it?" I asked, leaving his embrace to grab the coat that laid only halfway on the bed, possibly falling over a bit in my struggle. David gave a huff of a laugh.
"At first, he was a whiny bitch, and he was sniveling up to Star. Real pathetic." He said, I could hear his boots clack as he walked over to a different part of my small room. I laughed, nodding my head as I straightened out his jacket, and turned to see him inspecting a few band posters I hung up on my wall.
"That's to be expected. And now?" I asked, holding out his jacket, remembering his little comment of "At First."
"Now-" He paused to put his arms through the sleeves of his jacket and shrugging within his jacket, to get it to fit to his liking. "He seems to be accepting it. Actually Star agreed to finally take her first kill. They will both be changed fully here soon.
"Wow that's... that's great." I didn't mean to sound disappointed pr bitter about that bit. In Fact, I knew I should be ecstatic, Michael got his girl, and this makes things a lot less complicated for the boys. But now I knew for sure I'd have to share a space with her, and I really didn't want to be so blatantly pushed aside by someone who use to be my very best friend.
"Hey, what's wrong?" a hand met my chin tilting it up so I can look David in the eye.
"Nothing, I just don't want things to be... awkward. that's all." I assured him, looking off to the side avoiding his gaze a bit, then looking back to his eyes and sighed.
"Things are tense between us all, with the circumstances." I explained further.
David pressed his lips to my forward, and I closed my eyes, trying to relax.
"It will get better, Michael shouldn't be near as temperamental, and He and Star are mostly being their disgustingly happy selves in their corner."
I laughed, laying my head against the top of his chest, imagining the disgusted looks on the boys faces with my brother and Star making goo-goo eyes at each other in front of them.
"You're right. It will be fine. Better than fine." I agreed, giving him another kiss to his jaw this time. "Let's go, I need some fun."
In one fell swoop he threw me over his shoulder. I squealed, patting his back to let me down between bursts of laughter, wiggling in his grasp. I felt one of his hands pat my bottom twice, as a means to warn me to stop my wriggling.
He didn't set me down, till we were out the window and standing close to where he hid his bike. I smacked his chest lightly, as a mock "retaliation".
"You think you can just man-handle me?" I asked him, a grin on my face giving away that I was not really upset about the situation.
"I can and I will." he growled out, pulling me close to him, before placing a kiss on my lips. I felt like I could get drunk on his kisses, I never grew tired of them, and I never wanted them to end.
When we pulled apart, I smiled up at him. "Alright Romeo, let's go back to the cave before the boys think we ran away together." I patted his chest. He gave me another quick peck, before mounting his bike, and lifting his hand out to lead me to settle behind him.
Once I was fully seated and my arms were wrapped around him tightly, we were off to the cave, My future home. Blissfully unaware of the eyes that were following our retreating forms and memorizing our route.
