Kim Possible: A Family Again
Chapter 4: The Little Things (As Told By: Rose)
I didn't get a chance to go to the pool the last time I went out for errands. It was closed for maintenance, and would open up tomorrow morning at 7am. In a way, that works for me. Maybe Mika will want to go then? She likes swimming, so it's worth a shot "The pool was closed today, but it will open up tomorrow, would you like to go with me?" I offered
Mika smiled lightly "Sure"
I lightly chuckled, and ruffled her short silver-white hair. Even though she got suspended from school "You're a good young lady, don't let anyone tell you otherwise" I said with a smile back to her, a motherly smile, "the pool opens at 7am, sweetie, would you like to go in the morning, or maybe the afternoon?" I asked, Mika scratched the side of her head
"We can shoot for the late morning, maybe no later than noon?" Mika put out as a suggestion, I smiled and nodded in agreement with a hand on my hip. The next day, the sun was out and bright. I really wanted to get my pool routine done this week. Mika was in her soffe shorts and a t-shirt with her towel over her shoulder. She looked ready to swim.
"Ready, mom?"
I hummed, and nodded. We got in the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series, and headed to the pool after a wholesome pancake breakfast. Kim and Ron happened to be there to enjoy the summer day. Mika gave hugs to Kim and Ron. It warms to see that Mika can make friends. It's not a pool party per say, but someone has to come and try to crash it
It was Bonnie "You! Old Lady!"
I took off my shirt, revealing the top half of my one piece swimsuit. I pointed to myself, a bit confused as to why she's challenging me, "Yes, you! I challenge you to a race!" said Bonnie, still, I can see the fun in it. I worked out why she was challenging me. Bonnie must've challenged Mika, and she couldn't beat her. So Bonnie probably thinks I am easier.
I'm just here for my workout, so this can make it more eventful without ruining it "Alright" I agreed, accepting her challenge as I stepped out of my flip-flops with a hand on my hip which held my swim cap, "what are the rules to the race?" I asked, I looked to Mika sitting on a pool chair wearing her Speedo one piece. She smiled to me, and she nodded.
"To the end and back" said Bonnie
"That's kinda funny," smirked Kim
"What is?" Bonnie lightly snapped
"What's more shallow? You or the pool?"
I took off my sweatpants as Bonnie got in the pool. This blue Speedo 'Lazer Blast' swimsuit has become a favorite. I crouched down, and got in the water. I fluffed my curls, and tied them up in a bun with my black elastic hair band. I put on my swim cap and adjusted it to the perfect fit, "Umm...Miss Starr, you know this is a race, right?" Ron pointed out
I smiled, and nodded to Ron as Bonnie started her freestyle swim "Of course, I'm just giving Bonnie a sporting chance" I replied, looking at Bonnie seeming to be way ahead of me. I went underwater, and pushed off the wall with my feet and my arms and hands forward and overhead. I surfaced with my face down in the water to begin a freestyle swim
"Wow, she's good" said Kim
"She is my mom" said Mika, overhearing such things as I swim gave me a little boost. As an endurance swimmer, I feel that if you focus on your technique and not attacking the water, speed will follow. I do wiggle a bit behind me with my kicking legs and see-saw motions. Bonnie touched the wall, taking a breath before going under while I did a flip-turn
'Home stretch' I thought
I pushed off the wall with my feet, keeping my feet together while my hands and arms are forward and overhead. I started my kicking when I surfaced to begin a freestyle swim back. I kept my head down in the water, and turning for a breath when I needed to. I caught up to Bonnie, and soon passed her on the last bit, and I touched the wall before her
Yep. Bonnie got beat by an old lady in a grey swimcap and no goggles. Bonnie gruffed, and splashed the water out of frustration. Luckily, no one was in the other lane to be on the receiving end of that. I went up to her with a hand to shake, but Bonnie just left, "Wow, you're a fish in the water" said Ron as I held my hands on the edge. I smiled to him.
"Mika's a fish, I'm a whale"
Mike was putting on her swimcap and goggles. She went up to the edge, and slipped into the water feet first in the lane where Bonnie swam against me. I smiled a warm and motherly smile to Mika, "Care to join me, Honey?" I asked, I'm not challenging her. I let Mika swim her way while I swim my way. There's no competition between the two of us.
"Your swim is not ruined?"
"No, not at all" I replied, letting it go but it did make my monthly swim more eventful. Mika put her goggles on over her eyes. Mika took a breath, and went underwater to start her swim. Mika does a 'dolphin kick' in her starts while I don't. It's not my thing. While Mika was halfway into the start of her first laps, I went underwater to begin the workout.
