A/N: This story was inspired by "YuGiOh: RWBY Chronicles" by MaxGundam1998. I HIGHLY recommend you go check out that story, it's an amazing and entertaining story and it's main premise was what inspired this. There will be similarities but I'm also going to make a lot of differences so this story will still have a sort of unique feel.
Duel monsters. That is the name of the card game that took the world by storm. Now, I know what you might be thinking, "Why is a children's card game so popular?".
Well, let me tell you a brief history on duel monsters, long ago a man by the name of Maximillion Pegasus had created the game of duel monsters, the game quickly became a hit with people and it became a very popular game, but it also caught the interest of a young man named Seto Kaiba, who just happened to be the adopted son of the CEO of a powerful company KaibaCorp.
KaibaCorp was originally a military arms dealer company but when Seto managed to gain control of the company via hostile takeover he changed it from a military arms dealer to the world's largest multi-national gaming conglomerate. Seto wasn't any ordinary rich kid who took over his fathers company, he was an intellectually gifted programmer, engineer, and inventor. So when a card game that became one of most popular games caught his eye, with his mind and his company's resources there was nothing stopping him from taking the game to the next level and turning it from a very popular card game to the most popular game in the world with pro leagues and tournaments for it.
People all over want to become professional duelists and what better place than where our story takes place, Duel Academy.
Duel Academy
On an island we see a young man wearing a red blazer, a plain black t-shirt, black pants and black shoes running toward something, he also had an odd looking device. He had short dark hair, pale-ish skin, but his most notable features are his different colored eyes, his left eye was green while his right eye was brown. This was Jekyll Giada.
'Ok my promotional duel to Ra Yellow starts in about an hour, I got my deck ready to go so everything should be fine for me to duel' He thought before something caught his attention. He looked up to see a glow coming from what looked a crack in the sky.
'Murphy you cruel man.' He thought before something shot out of it and hit his head knock him down.
"Gah!" He cried as he held his head in pain.
"Oh, are you okay?" he heard a girl's voice ask. He let go of his head and looked up to see a girl with short orange hair, light skin and bright green eyes. She wore a grey old-timey looking blouse with green patterns and had a pink bow on the back of her head. honestly he though she looked like a normal girl, well if it wasn't for one small detail...
She was a chibi. So Jekyll did the one thing that was logical: freak out.
"WHAT THE?!" He cried as he quickly back away a bit and got back up to his feet.
"Sal-u-tations! My name is Penny Polendina." Penny greeted as she did a little salute.
Naturally Jekyll was still a little freaked out by this, and since was FAR from a people's person and was an introvert he would've avoided interacting and walked away, but his curiosity got the better of him. That and it probably helps that this, even though it may be the weirdest, isn't the first strange thing that's happened to him on this island.
"Okay, I'm Jekyll, nice to meet you Penny." He said slowly.
"Are you okay? You seemed awfully distressed when you saw me." She said.
"Well forgive me but it's not every day you meet a real life chibi." He said.
"What?" She asked surprised but then took a look at herself and saw she really was tiny. "How did this happen?!"
"How should I know?" He said and she started talking to herself about how could this happen.
As she was talking Jekyll noticed something on the ground close by and went to check it out. What he found surprised him. A pair of Duel Monster cards with Penny on it.
"What the hell?" he mumbled as he looked at them.
"What are those?" Penny asked as she suddenly appeared over his shoulder.
"Ah!" He yelled in shock as he accidently dropped the cards he was holding as well as his deck. "Damn it." he muttered as he hurriedly picked his cards back up.
"What were those cards?" She asked as Jekyll raised an eyebrow and had a weird look at this.
'Does she really not know what Duel Monster cards are? Either she's been living under a rock or is from another world. Given the circumstances I'm actually inclined to believe the latter.' He thought before remembering something.
"As interesting as it was to meet you I have somewhere important I need to be, goodbye." He said as started to walk away but Penny quickly got in front of him.
"Excuse me, but I don't really know where I am and I seem to have gotten separated from my friends. Could you please help me find them?" She asked.
Jekyll mentally groaned, he did NOT have time for this, but he knew if he tried to argue or complain it'd just waste more time. That and she was looking at him with pleading kitten eyes, how could he say no to that look on her face.
Jekyll sighed. "Listen I need to be somewhere important, but you can tag along in case I encounter one of you friends along the way. got it?" He said.
"Oh thank you!" She said as she tagged along with him.
A few minute later
Jekyll and Penny have made it to the arena though the haven't encountered any of Penny's friends.
Jekyll made his way to his side of the field. He looked at the other side of the field to see a man with short dark hair slicked backwards, orange eyes and pale skin. He had a blazer similar to Jekyll's but yellow instead of red. He had a crooked smile on his face. This was Isaac Orenge.
"Well you showed up, for a second I thought you wouldn't show." Isaac said.
"Just got caught up on something." Jekyll said.
"Which is?" Isaac asked.
"Nothing that matters right now. Let's just duel." Jekyll said as he readied his duel disk and Isaac mimicked the action.
"What are those devices?" Penny asked.
"Just watch." Jekyll said, leaving Penny confused.
"Let's duel!" Both duelists said as they drew their hands.
"I'll go first!" Isaac said.
Turn 1
Isaac LP: 4000 VS Jekyll LP: 4000
Isaac hand: 5 VS Jekyll hand: 5
"First I'll play my spell card Gravekeeper's Servant." Isaac said as a holographic copy of a card appeared on the field.
"Then I'll set a monster and end my turn." He said as a sideways facedown card appeared on his field.
Turn 2
Isaac LP: 4000 VS Jekyll LP: 4000
Isaac hand: 3 VS Jekyll hand: 5+1
"I draw." Jekyll said.
"I summon Spell Reactor - RE!" he said as he played a card.
Suddenly a machine that looked like a mix of a dragon and a serpent with two red arm with 3 claws on it, the middle of it's body seemed to resemble a jet cockpit. The middle of it's body and it's arms were red while the rest of it's body was a grey-ish color. On the underside of it's body were several missiles.
Spell Reactor - RE
(LV: 3 / DARK / [Machine/Effect] / 1200 ATK / 900 DEF)
Penny was immediately amazed and intrigued by the monster as she looked at it in awe.
"What was that?!" Penny asked.
"That is what happens in a duel." Jekyll said with a smirk. "Now I activate the spell card Machine Assembly Line!" He said as a spell card appeared on the field.
"Thanks to this all machine type monsters gain 200 ATK
Spell Reactor - RE: 1200 ATK + 200 ATK = 1400 ATK
"Now spell reactor will attack your face down monster!" Jekyll announced.
"Not so fast! Remember in order to attack you've got to send 1 card from the top of your deck to the graveyard thanks to grave keeper's servant." Isaac informed.
Jekyll did just that as his monster released the missiles it was holding as they flew towards the face down monster which flipped face up to reveal a giant germ.
Giant Germ
(LV: 2 / DARK / [Fiend/Effect] / 1000 ATK / 100 DEF)
"You've just destroyed Giant Germ so now you take 500 points of damage." Isaac said as a purple aura formed around Jekyll.
Jekyll LP: 4000 - 500 = 3500 LP
"And just like a real germ Giant Germ can multiply by letting me bring out 2 more copies on the field in attack mode." He added
"I set 2 cards face-down and end my turn." Jekyll said said as he placed 2 cards down.
Turn 3
Isaac LP: 4000 VS Jekyll LP: 3500
Isaac hand: 3+1 VS Jekyll Hand: 2
Isaac drew a card and smirked as he looked over his hand. "First off I'll tribute one of my Germs to summon the Dark Ruler Ha Des!"
Giant germ disappeared and a new monster took his place, this monster was humanoid and had green skin, a grey beard and horns while wearing a dark robe with the front of a skull over his torso and on his chest a human face could be seen. He was also drinking wine.
Dark Ruler Ha Des
(LV: 6 / DARK / [Fiend/Effect] / 2450 ATK / 1600 DEF)
Penny felt fear at looking at this new monster while Jekyll grit his teeth.
"I also equip him with my Black Pendant spell card which boosts his ATK by 500." Isaac said as a black pendant formed around Ha Des' neck
"You forget the ability of my Spell Reactor. I can destroy your spell and deal 800 damage to you." Jekyll said as Spell reactor fired it's missiles at Black Pendant's card which appeared on the field which reduced Ha Des's attack back to normal as Isaac used his arms to cover himself from the explosion.
Isaac LP: 4000 - 800 = 3200 LP
"Whenever Black pendant is sent from the field to the graveyard you take 500 points of damage." He said with a smile as a purple aura once again formed around Jekyll.
Jekyll LP: 3500 - 500 = 3000 LP
"Now I activate my face-down, Robbin' Zombie!" Isaac said as his face-down card from earlier turned up to show an image of a zombie holding a blade and a bag over it's shoulders.
"Now Ha Des attack Spell Reactor!" He commanded as Ha Des charged a ball of dark magic in his hand and fired it at Spell Reactor.
"I activate my face-down Fake Explosion! Thanks to this no monsters will be destroyed from this battle!" Jekyll announced as the sphere hit Spell Reactor.
Jekyll LP: 3000 - 1050 = 1950 LP
So you saved your monster. You still take damage and thanks to my Robbin' Zombie trap card that also means another card of your deck is sent to the graveyard." Isaac said.
"Well now thanks to Fake Explosions other effect I can summon from my hand Summon Reactor - SK!" He informed as a new monster appeared on the field. This monster was another humanoid machine that looks like a green humanoid plane with wings and propellers on it's shoulders.
Summon Reactor - SK
(LV: 5 / DARK / [Machine/Effect] / 2000 ATK / 1400 DEF)
"I switch my Germ to defense mode and set a card face down and end my turn." Isaac said after he switched his last Germ to defense position and set a card down.
'Now even if he summons a monster with higher ATK my rush recklessly will give Ha Des a 700 point boost.' Isaac mentally smirked.
Turn 4
Isaac LP: 3200 VS Jekyll LP: 1950
Isaac hand: 1 VS Jekyll hand: 1+1
'Great, my Life Points are down by more than half, I haven't got a monster on my field or in my hand that could destroy Ha Des, and that Giant Germ is still on the field whose effect could wipe out 500 of my Life Points. Not to mention those 2 spell trap cards keep getting rid of cards in my deck. I need to think of something soon or I'm toast.' Jekyll thought as he drew a card.
He looked at his hand. "First I'll activate my Allure of Darkness spell card. I can draw 2 cards and then banish 1 DARK attribute monster from my hand." He said as he drew an his eyes widen at what he saw.
'This is that card I found earlier, but how did it-" He thought before realizing something. 'I must have put it in by accident since I was in a rush. Maybe it could help me.'
"Hey Penny," Jekyll said getting the attention of said girl. "Do you mind helping me out a bit?" He asked.
"Sure." Penny said.
'Here goes nothing.' He thought "I activate the spell Monster Reborn!" Jekyll said as placed a card in his duel disk. "With this I can summon one monster from either graveyard. And since it was placed there thanks to your spell and trap cards I summon Jumbo Drill!" He said as suddenly dark portal opened up in the ground and from out a blue construction machine with treads and two arm like appendages with drills at the end.
Jumbo Drill
(LV: 4 / EARTH / [Machine/Effect] / 1800 ATK / 100 DEF)
"And now I'll summon Atlas Soul: Penny Polendina." He said as Penny jumped onto the field.
Atlas Soul: Penny Polendina
(LV: 4 / LIGHT / [Machine/Effect] / 800 ATK / 800 DEF)
"What monster is that?" Isaac asked surprised.
"Now I'll take the level 4 Jumbo Drill and Atlas Soul Penny Polendina to form the Overlay Network!" Jekyll said.
Suddenly a vortex that partially resembled a galaxy opened up on his side of the field and Penny and Jumbo drill turned into yellow and brownish orange energy, signifying their respective attributes, and flew into the vortex.
"I Xyz summon! Rank 4 Cyber huntress: Penny Polendina!" Jekyll announced.
Appearing from the Vortex was none other than Penny in her regular body with Floating Array ready and two yellow orbs of light were circling her.
Cyber Huntress: Penny Polendina
(Rank: 4 / LIGHT / [Machine/Xyz/Effect] / 2800 ATK / 1200 DEF)
Everyone was looking at Penny in awe and amazement.
"I'm combat ready!" She said as she took a fighting stance.
"So is that what you normally look like? I have to admit it's a good look." Jekyll admitted.
"Thank you!" Penny appreciated the complement.
"Now let's do this." He said and penny nodded.
"I've never heard of that card." Isaac muttered in shock.
"Well your about find out what she can do because I'm activating her ability!" Jekyll declared as one of the orbs of light circling Penny suddenly flew into her chest and shined. "By removing an Overlay Unit I can target up to two spell and trap cards on the field and destroy them! So I target your to face-up cards!"
Penny got Floating Array ready and fired two separate lasers at Gravekeeper's Servant and Robbin' Zombie, destroying them.
"That's not all, she gains 500 ATK for every spell and trap card destroyed by this effect!" Jekyll informed.
"What?!" Isaac cried out.
"And don't forget the boost from my Machine Assembly Line!" Jekyll added.
Cyber Huntress: Penny Polendina: 2800 ATK + 500 ATK + 500 ATK + 200 ATK = 4000 ATK
"Now Penny I think it's time we took down Ha Des, wouldn't you agree?" Jekyll said.
"I think so too." Penny said as she charged at Ha Des.
'Even if it won't save his destruction it'll at least same me some life points.' Isaac thought before taking action.
"I activate my face down!" He said. But the card didn't activate. "Huh? Why isn't it activating?"
"Atlas soul: Penny Polendina's effect. Since she was used as an Xyz material to summon Cyber Huntress: Penny Polendina, that means whenever Penny attacks you can't activate any spell or trap cards until after the damage step!" Jekyll explained.
"What?!" Isaac yelled.
Penny went up to Dark Ruler Ha Des as she sliced him to pieces with her blades and destroyed him.
Isaac LP: 3200 - 1550 = 1650 LP
"Now Spell Reactor destroy his final Giant Germ!" Jekyll commanded as Spell Reactor fired his missiles once more and destroyed Giant Germ.
Jekyll LP: 1950 - 500 = 1450 LP
'I took another blow to my Life Points but that doesn't matter now.' Jekyll thought.
"Now Summon Reactor finish him off!" He said as Summon Reactor's propellers started spinning fired a spiral blast of wind at Isaac.
Isaac LP: 1650 - 2200 = 0 LP
Duel over
Winner: Jekyll Giada
Everyone in audience cheered for the amazing duel that just happened.
"Thanks for the help Penny." Jekyll said as Penny suddenly glowed green and turned back to normal.
"So I guess you turn small again after duel?" Jekyll said unsure as he and Penny walked away from the arena.
"I don't know. I also don't know why I'm like this at all." Penny said.
"Huh." Was all Jekyll said. "By the way you said you were looking for your friends?"
"Oh, yes! Could you please help me find them?" She asked.
'On one hand odds are I would get into something that doesn't really have to do with me but she helped me out back with the duel and she wants to find her friends and if they're like her than they'll probably lost and confused. Plus, I'd by lying if I wasn't curious as to what the hell is going on.' Jekyll mentally weighed his options.
"Okay, I'll help." He said and penny had a bright smile. "But first I want you to answer a couple things."
"Okay." Penny said.
"Do you know where you are?" He asked.
"Um, no..." Penny said since she didn't know where she was as Jekyll sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose.
'This is gonna be a long day.' he thought.
