Prologue

.

Jasper, Nevada

A long day had finally come to rest.

The sun had just started to set, the last rays of golden light spreading across the sky, with the clouds bathed in brilliant pink hues of intense saturation. The wind picked up a bit, whispering as night slowly began to creep closer, however it left a white SUV unimpressed by it's gust.

.

The vehicle was followed closely by a large truck. It's logo on the side indicating it was specifically for helping individuals or families relocate to new homes, to carry on with the next chapter of their lives, to seek out some thrilling action, or to escape it.

.

Bright beams of light flicked on as the dark night started to descend, with the whit SUV's headlights leading the way through the piercing dark. It was a silent night, aside from the lonely vehicles traversing this long, lonely road.

.

The car's engine hummed healthily as it faithfully drove along the long stretch of road, Despite it being night, there was still an unforgiving heat that bore down on those driving along the highway. The men in the truck and the SUV driver, both unaffected as they had the luxury of air conditioning and music.

.

Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under by Shania Twain played loudly over the speaker, with the driver tapping their fingers against the steering wheel in tune to the country song, humming along quietly. It was a good tune, fun and uplifting, something she needed to get her mind off of….things

.

As they continued driving, a small town started to appear in the distance, the faint lights being a welcome sight to the tired and hungry drivers.

.

Approaching the town, the truck indicated towards a fast food establishment, before the radio in the white SUV came to life.

.

"Hey uh, Miss Frosteine? We're gonna make a quick pitstop to check everything's still secure and grab a bite, you don't mind, do you?" A voice crackled over the radio. It really needed new batteries but with all the moving, she never had a chance to do so.

.

"I don't see why not. I'll probably grab a meal then go ahead and unlock the place, it'll make it much easier to unload then." Was Rain's answer after her stomach growled from the mention of a warm meal. She drove through the drive in, seeing the moving truck pull up in the parking lot.

.

After ordering a large burger and drink from a very bored looking teen, Rain packed the meal away and continued on the road. The house wasn't too far, so she could wait until she got there and opened the doors. By then, the boys would have had their meal and checked that the furniture and boxes were still secure and hadn't been damaged. One of the roads they had driven on had been extremely rough, so she was worried about the more fragile contents in some of those boxes.

.

.

Rain sighed, not keen on having to do repairs right off the bat. Not when her shop wasn't set up yet. If it wasn't for the list she wrote down, she wouldn't even remember where she packed most of her gear, shaking her head at the thought in annoyance. The stress had really worn down on her mentally, it definitely didn't help that it kept her awake at night too.

.

At least she'd get a good sleep tonight, that's for sure. If not for the drive, then at least the packing would drain her energy and let her properly rest for once. The thought made Rain rub her eyes briefly, blinking a few times at the road.

.

The vehicle continued ahead, driving out of Jasper and approached a block of land a little further out. It was a generous two story house with a large glass display windows, their security shutters drawn down as the door had a steel security gate over it. It had formerly been a shop, but due to rumours about 'ghosts', Rain had managed to get it a bit cheaper than usual. Though the state of the house definitely helped to drive the price down.

.

The car lights shone on the old eerie building, it's faded blue briefly lighting up. The aged brown roof showing it's wear and tear, as a few leaves fluttered down in the breeze.

.

Rain stepped out of the car with the house keys and unlocked the front door, pocketing said keys before returning to grab her meal and drink. Locking the car and heading inside, it was a bit dusty and fairly warm, so Rain immediately set to unlockings doors and opening some windows to allow a cool breeze through. She didn't want the guys fainting from heatstroke.

.

After switching some lights on, Rain nodded in content, before settling down to enjoy her meal that her stomach angrily reminded her about. Looking around, she went over her plans for what furniture would go where and what work she needed to do on her new home. It didn't take her long to finish the meal and drink, putting the rubbish in the bag, then putting it in the sink. She didn't have a bin yet, so it would prevent a mess from happening.

.

About thirty minutes later as Rain was double checking rooms, lights shone across the windows and a familiar rumble of a truck engine reached her ears, making her grin and skip down and out the front door. Instead of her moving truck, it was a large red truck that was driving past, without a trailer. Rain rose an eyebrow but a second beam of light made her look over and see the expected truck turn up.

.

"Sorry we're a bit late, our GPS freaked out on us, so we had to get some directions from locals." Dave chuckled, a bit embarrassed. "Hey, that's fine! Besides, it gave me plenty of time to have dinner, unlock all the doors and turn all the lights on." She chuckled, turning to the house as the lights echoed out into the darkness. It almost reminded her of Monster House with how eerie the lights were.

.

"Why don't we get started on this, then?" Levi asked, starting to stretch and warm up. "Dave, the boxes are near the front, so we'll focus on those. Miss Frosteine, where'd you like us to put them?" Dave had turned towards the truck, unlatching the door as Rain walked ahead.

.

"There's a large open area upstairs, I'd like to put all the boxes up there for now, you should see a sticky note on the door saying 'Boxes' and all the lights are on. Plus any trip hazards have been cleared out, I'll be giving you a hand too, since you must be tired from the trip." Dave nodded in appreciation towards Rain, walking into the house with the first box.

.

"We really do appreciate this Miss Frosteine, ah-where did you want this chair?" He asked, looking at a rather large yet comfortable arm chair that was more cushion than chair.

.

"Ah, that one should be fine to go downstairs." Rain said, directing Levi as she picked up a box and walked over towards the house. As she did, a faint buzzing reached her ears, making her turn her head slightly to better hear it. After a moment of silence, she brushed it off as a bug and continued inside, carefully heading up the stairs until Dave gently took the box off her. She thanked him and returned to grab another box, carrying on the same pattern until all the boxes were in a large, empty room upstairs.

.

Most of the larger furniture was fine, but a few large pieces made the duo go slower as to not accidentally crash through the wall. They carefully set the furniture down, with Dave heading out to check if there was anymore items to move.

.

"Do you need help with any of this?" Levi asked, gesturing to some flat-packed furniture as the obsidian-haired woman shook her head. "Ah, I'll be fine, I'm a big girl now." She chuckled. "Besides, you two have done basically all the heavy lifting and I'm betting you're both exhausted too. I do appreciate the offer though." Levi nodded, turning and heading out the door after Dave confirmed all of the furniture and boxes had safely made it inside.

.

The duo returned to their truck before driving off, the only sound in the night, aside from a few other distant vehicles. Rain sighed, before turning around and entering her new home, locking the door. Looking at the metal shutters, she made a note to replace these with some new ones, as they were definitely showing their age. If she really wanted to, she could kick it in herself without an issue.

.

Rain turned and walked upstairs to her room, seeing the mattress and the pieces of her bed on the ground, waiting for assembly. A lot of her furniture needed assembling, but it wasn't something for her to worry about tonight, not when she was so tired. Yet not tired enough. She assembled her bed frame, awkwardly balancing pieces and beams on herself as she tightened bolts and nuts, slotting pieces into their place.

.

With a heavy huff, the mattress flopped onto the bed frame and a moment later, it was made and ready for her to rest. Normally she'd shower before bed but that was the last of her energy spent, so dragging a purple case near the bed, she changed into some comfy pajamas and flopped onto the bed, staring at the ceiling, a million thoughts running through her mind.

.

A new place. A new start. No chaos, no fear or stress.

.

A new beginning.

Author's note:
DUN DUN DUN- it's back!

I found this story again after checking in on fanfiction after a favourite old story of mine started up again and it inspired me to rewrite my story (especially seeing how rushed some parts are too). Pages that have been rewritten will have a -X- at the top. If you want to chat or join my discord server, check out my profile, as I don't frequently check in here anywhere near as often as I used to.

.

I also want to add: THIS WILL NOT FOLLOW THE CANON TIMELINE. This is because where I live, Netflix only lets me view the first season of Prime, other seasons I can't watch and I've only seen a few clips here and there on YouTube. Due to an idea for the plot later on, things will basically do their own thing. Things will be different in this version too.

Hope you enjoy!
