"All right, y'all have your assignments. Fan out, make your presence known", Athena said, talking to the force of policemen and women in front of her. "Might take the national guard more than a minute to get on the stick. Until then we are the first line of defence against looters, all right?" she asked, everyone nodding their response and she continued: "If you see anything that looks like more than a misdemeanor, call for backup. We are not looking the other way on this. Arrest will be made. Understood?" she ended her speech, again everyone nodded in response. "All right, move out. Be smart, stay safe" Athena said and the group dissolved to fulfill their duties as first responders.
To say this day had been nightmarish would be the least, her heart sent a thought to all of her family when she noticed a young police officer standing with a group of people; "Hey, everything okay, Suze?" she asked the young female officer who turned to look at her
"Sergeant, they're asking for help finding their people. I tried to tell them..." Suze told but was interrupted by Athena addressing the people
"Folks for your own safety, we need you to clear the streets. Make your way to the emergency shelter" Athena said
"My wife is missing, and you're not gonna do anything?" A middle aged man asked, holding his arm protectively around what Athena guessed was his son, a teenage boy
"We are doing everything that we can. Now there's people at the shelter who can take your name and reconnect you with your wife or whoever is missing" Athena answered and the father and son took off. Then she looked at the young female carrying a younger boy, maybe 8 or 9 years old, something about the boy seemed familiar to her but she couldn't put her finger on what
"Muchos gracias" the woman said and moved a little closer, now Athena got a closer look at her and the boy and her heart dropped… Right there in the woman's arms was
"Christopher?" Athena gasped, the boy shifted a little in the woman's arms repositioning himself to look up at her with sleepy and teary eyes
"Athena?" Christopher asked, and he sounded very weak and exhausted and frankly looked like hell, Athena gasped again at this. Athena looked to the woman who was about to leave
"Wait" Athena said and her voice was shaking
"Yes?" the woman asked in a nervous voice, speaking very poorly english. Athena moved to stand by the woman again and pointed to Christopher
"Where?" she asked, afraid of the answer
"In water" the woman told, doing her best to speak in english. "He was asking for Buck" the woman said. Athena's heart made another drop in her chest, she had known from Eddie that Christopher was spending the day with Buck, but even though she could see Christopher right here in front of her, she refused to believe that her baby was lost out there. She reached for Christopher while looking at the woman
"It's okay, I'm a friend" Athena assured her and the woman held Christopher out for Athena to take, which she did. Christopher didn't protest the passing over, just hugged Athena. "I'll take him from here" Athena politely told the woman and hugged Christopher back
"Muchos gracias" the woman said and walked away in the same direction as the father and son had, towards the shelter
