"Where is Maddie at?" Chimney asked looking around the room
"He didn't want us to call her" Athena said
"What" Chimney said surprised and turned to look at Athena "You mean she doesn't know her brother is in the hospital?" Chimney asked surprised
"No" Athena said
"I'm calling her, the hospital might not be able to by I sure can" Chimney said and went to pull his phone out of his pocket and dialed Maddie's number, she picked up on the first ring
"Hey Chimney" Maddie chipped happily into the phone
"Hey Mads" Chimney said a little guarded
"What's wrong" Maddie said, Chimney could hear the alarm in her tone and he could have kicked himself for taking this over the phone
"I'm sorry Maddie, we responded to a call earlier and it's Buck" Chimney nervously told her. "He's stable" Chimney said, he could hear Maddie crying on the other end of the phone. "Maddie, do you need me to come pick you up?" Chimney asked her
"No, no I'm okay. Thank you for letting me know" Maddie said
"Are you sure?" Chimney asked
"Yeah I'm fine" Maddie said, amazing how much alike her and Buck was when it came to stubbornness
"Okay I'll see you then" Chimney said and they both hung up. "Well that went… better than I'd hoped" Chimney laughed out nervously
"How did she take it?" Hen asked
"Cried a little at first but then insisted on driving herself here" Chimney said, stoking the back of his head nervously
"What did the doctor say" Hen asked Athena now
"4 broken ribs and 3 bruised ones, a small arrhythmia but nothing they were too concerned about and then the obvious malnutrition, they wanted to put in a feeding tube but Buck refused" Athena went over the doctors report to her
"What have I done?" Bobby cried from the corner of the room, putting his head down into his hands. Even though Athena was still plenty mad at him, she went to comfort him, plenty of time to be mad at him later right now he needed her there. Nobody said a word, all worried about Buck.
Maddie was sitting next to Buck's bed looking at his small and fragile frame, she had cried when she had seen him, and again once everyone had gone over what had occurred that day and the day before, she had cried and yelled for him to get out when Bobby had apologised to her for how he had treated her brother and then the nurse had kicked everyone out saying that Buck needed to rest, Maddie had objected to being kicked out and had promised to stay quiet so she had been let back in, but everyone else had been asked to leave so that they were only one or two in the room at the time. Chimney had wanted to stay with Maddie, but Maddie had needed the space saying it was a Buckley thing, so Chimney had left with the others. Buck woke up a little while after everyone had left, guess they really was just doing their job he had thought to himself then his eyes had landed on a very much puffed eyed Maddie sitting beside him
"Oh Evan" Maddie cried upon seeing his eyes being open
"I'm okay Mads" Buck had tried to comfort her, which had just earned him a stern look from his older sister
"Look at you Evan, you are most definitely not fine" Maddie said with a hard tone. "God Evan, when did you last eat?" Maddie asked
"It's fine Mads, I'm fine" Buck said and this time Maddie just looked at him and he sighed. "Okay maybe I'm not fine, but what do you want me to do Maddie?" Buck had asked surrendering
"Fight. I want you to fight Evan" Maddie had said
"I've been fighting, everyday I'm fighting to just be okay, but Maddie look around nobody cares" Buck said
"You think that nobody else is here because they don't care?" Maddie asked perplexed
"You properly wouldn't even be here if it weren't because you had to because we're family" Buck said
"I care. And the others care, I was the one to kick them out after learning what you had to go through everyday at the station" Maddie told him, he looked up at her with wide eyes
"They were right to hate me, I'm exhausting" Buck said
"You most surely is not, and even if you were that still doesn't give them the right" Maddie said
"I'm so sorry for being such a burden on you Maddie" Buck cried
"Oh Evan" Maddie cried
