Buck was on edge after the family meeting, he knew he should have felt more happy and excited that his family had forgiven him, but for some reason he didn't and he knew why, Eddie hadn't been there; Eddie hadn't forgiven him yet, and for some reason that meant the most. Buck was staring at the ceiling, the thoughts were running wild but he couldn't run, he contemplated asking Maddie for some sleeping tablets, but he knew that wasn't what he wanted, he might fall asleep but it would be a restless sleep filled with nightmares and thoughts, he just had to find another way. Buck got up and walked to the kitchen, cooking had helped him before maybe it could do it again, he decided on cupcakes. Maddie had already gone to sleep so Buck made sure to be extra quiet as he baked the cupcakes, not using any of the machines but mixing the batter by hand, it was nice and quiet while he did so, no thoughts to distract him, he just baked cupcakes. When Maddie got up the next morning Buck was cleaning the kitchen of his baking mess, he had baked 2 batches of cupcakes, 1 brownie batch and 1 red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting which had all been laid around the room for cooling. Maddie could only asume from the bakings scattered around her living room and kitchen that Buck hadn't slept at all during the night, she was worried for him.
"Buck?" Maddie asked gently, not wanting to startle her brother
"Maddie" Buck said surprised and turned to look at her, then looking around at all his baking. "Oh, ehm sorry for the mess, I'll just… I don't know… maybe I could… I don't know" Buck said, a little embarrassed and exhausted looking at all the cakes. Maddie smiled, holding in a laughter and at the same time she was more worried than ever
"Why don't I take some of the cake with me to work and then you could drop the rest of it off at the firestation, I'll give Chimney a heads up and he'll come help you?" Maddie suggested. Buck nodded a little overwhelmed
"That… That would be nice" Buck said, mostly embarrassed now
"Done" Maddie smiled, found her phone and texted Chimney to swing by her and pick up Buck and some bakery for the station, Chimney responded almost immediately with four smileys with heart eyes and a thumbs up emoji, Maddie smiled at her goofy boyfriend's response. "Chimney will be by and pick you and the cakes up before work" Maddie told Buck who nodded tired in response. "I'll come pick you up at the station after my shift, I already talked to Bobby and we decided you were gonna spend the day there so they could keep an eye on you, just in case anything happens" Maddie said. Buck wanted to tell her that he didn't need a babysitter, but one look at Maddie and her worried glance around the room had him rethink that
"Yes mom" Buck said in a teasing tone instead and Maddie glanced at him with a worried smile but didn't say anything
Half an hour later Maddie was of to work and Buck and Chimney were loading the baked goods into Chimney's car, Chimney in the process stealing a cupcake
"Just for testing" Chimney defended and Buck laughed at him.
They were rolling into the parking lot in front of the station, Bobby was outside waiting for them
"Heard you might need a hand" Bobby smiled when Buck and Chimney got out of the car
"You can say that again Cap" Chimney laughed, and opened the back doors to his car to reveal mountains of bakery. "Now where do we start" Chimney nervously laughed, Bobby glanced at Buck who was starting to sway slightly from exhaustion
"By getting firefighter Buckley here inside and laying down I think" Bobby said in a half joking half seriously worried tone. Chimney closed the car doors while Bobby started guiding Buck for stairs to the loft, he was gonna lay down on the couch where they could keep an eye on him in case anything happened. When they walked by the gym area where Eddie was in the middle of a punching session, Bobby thought he saw Eddie sending them a worried look but he was far from sure. Bobby laid Buck down on the couch and went downstairs with Chimney to help empty his car of cakes, Buck was definitely starting to resemble Bobby more and more and that worried the older firefighter a great deal
