Izuku groaned out a sigh as she ran her hands through Leothains' soft fur. The great lion was in a smaller form, thanks to the amount of power Izuku used to summon him, and was curled up on his summoner's bed right next to her. Izuku was using Leo as a bouncing board to figure out what to do since she was being very indecisive on who to choose to go to. The names of the heroes that had pinned her profile had been flip flopping inside her head ever since she looked at them. She still had a few days before the inevitable call she would get from the Hero Union and then after that she still had two more days to decide who to go to.
There was Eraserhead, the man who saved her when she was younger, an underground Hero that specialized in stealth and quick takedowns. His Quirk was Erasure, a 'psychic' type Quirk that could nullify Quirks as long as he kept them in his line of sight and did not blink. He would be able to teach her many things and could potentially help her with her stealth, one of her weak points. There was also the chance that if she did get into U.A. that he would be her teacher.
All Might, the man she, and many others, looked up to. No one really knew what his Quirk was exactly and was just classified as a strength enhancing Quirk. He was the Symbol of Peace and she strives to become as heroic as him one day. If she didn't take this opportunity she may never have the chance to meet him.
Hawks, a Hero she's not completely knowledgeable of, but she did know that his quirk was his wings and like Eraserhead, he fought almost 'quirkless'. He was the number three Hero, and could be seen flying around different cities during the day. He could help her learn how to use Pyra, Leo, and Astras' wings with flying and combat.
Ryukyu, another Hero she doesn't know much of, the number nine Hero. She fights melee and can transform into a large dragon. She wasn't really a Hero that Izuku would think she would choose for the Approval. The two were just too different from each other.
"Kitten," Leothain murmured as she let out yet another sigh and when Izuku turned to look at him his large ember colored eyes stared into her own, "This is a decision that only you can make. Clear your mind of all the senseless thoughts that are running through it."
Izuku nodded and closed her eyes to meditate like her teacher, from the dojo she trained at, had taught her. She focused on her own breathing until she felt her body relax and her mind became blissfully clear of all thoughts. She was still aware of her surroundings so when Leothain began to speak she didn't jump or fall out of her meditation. His deep voice, the soft rumbling against her arm from him speaking, the warm scales on her leg from his tail, everything was soothing.
"Follow what your heart is trying to tell you," Leothain said gently, "Your mind tends to play tricks and confuse you with all the senseless thoughts it comes up with. There is a time for logic, and there is a time to follow your heart, your instinct. What is your heart telling you, Kitten?"
Izuku let out a small sigh as she opened her mouth. "It's telling me to go with-"
The small green haired teen let out a sigh as she sat down on the train seat. Four days had passed since she had made her decision on who to go to and she had gotten an email from the Hero she was going to see. It simply stated that the Hero Commission was paying for the trip, the stay, the food, and so on until their time was up and she was sent back home. So without further ado she claimed a train ticket, sent the information to the Hero Commission, and secured her way to the Hero of her choice. The email also said that another Hero was going to be escorting her to the hotel she was going to be staying at since the only ticket available had been a late night ride and that he was going to see her in the morning to start the Approval Test.
Of course she didn't know what the test consisted of seeing as each test for every student was different from one another. Izuku assumed there was going to be at least a physical involved, along with an endurance and stamina test, a mental test, and perhaps a rescuing test. She was well prepared for just about anything at least. Her mind was quick and sharp thanks to all the analysis work she does in her spare time. Her body was well used to hard work, and while she was a bit emotional, she was sure she could pass a psyche test.
Izuku let out a frustrated sigh as she reached up to run her hand over warm scales. Before she had left home she had summoned her smallest summon, Lazu, since she didn't want to be alone for her trip. She let out a small smile as she felt the warm body tighten a bit on her neck before relaxing in an imitation of a hug or a hand squeeze to help calm her nerves.
"I hope I picked right," Izuku murmured to herself as she curled up onto the train seat and looked out the window.
"Izuku Midoriya?"
A feminine voice spoke softly from a few feet away from Izuku after most of the people that were standing on the station had already either left or got on the train leaving the station mostly empty. Turning around Izuku saw a tall woman with dark skin that glistened, short curly chocolate brown hair, and bright gold eyes that had a starburst of red coming from her pupil. Izuku's eyes widened as the older woman walked closer. She would have never thought in a million years that she would meet the only female Pro-Hero that Katsuki looked up to.
"Ye-Yes," Izuku stuttered out, "Burnstar?"
The woman let out a chuckle and nodded. Burnstar, ranked number 20 of the Hero Charts, was a rather young Hero to be ranked that high, but it was well deserved. The Hero didn't wear provocative clothing, 'fan-servicing Hero slut' Katsuki had once said to Izuku when he saw a female Hero in their costume that only consisted of short shorts and a bikini top, or went out of her way to get on camera. Burnstar had stated in several interviews that she wasn't a Hero for the money or the fame.
"If you'll follow me Miss Midoriya I'll take you to the place you're going to stay in for the duration of your testing," Burnstar said as she began to walk towards the stairs to get out of the station. Izuku adjusted her bag and grabbed the rolling suitcase she had brought before following the Hero out of the building. Izuku thanked Burnstar as the Hero grabbed her suitcase to place in the trunk of the car before walking around the the side to get in when she was prompted to.
"So Miss Midoriya," the older woman said as she started the car, "if I'm not being too forward, what's your Quirk?"
Izuku blushed a bit as a HERO asked about HER quirk. "Oh, I can summon creatures to fight alongside me in a fight, for recon, or to help in rescues," Izuku said feeling a bit proud of herself that she managed to not stutter. Lazu adjusted himself around her neck a bit causing Izuku to reach up and give the reptile a scratch.
"Oh?" Burnstar said as they stopped at a red light, "What kind of creatures?"
"Any you can think of really, besides cartoon ones," she said as she held back a laugh. She found that out the hard way when she was younger and wanted to see if she could summon a Pikachu. In the end she was left crying and Katsuki was on the ground laughing. "In fact, I have one here," Izuku said as she tapped her lap and clicked her tongue for Lazu to climb down. The dwarf fae dragon let out a snort, but obeyed the command, even though his summoner knew that he didn't like being out and about and preferred being in the shadows.
"Isn't it just adorable!" Burnstar said but made no move to reach over and pet the dragon, "What is it? Does it have a name?"
"His name is Lazu," Izuku said as the summon crawled back up to where he was most comfortable at, "He's a Dwarf Fae Dragon. The smallest species of the Draconic Kin."
Burnstar nodded as she turned the car down a road that had a few tall buildings on it. "We're almost to the hotel," the Hero said as she pointed to one of the buildings towards the end of the road, "What other summons do you have?"
"One more dragon, a nature spirit, a phoenix, a chimera, and a gryphon," Izuku said as they got closer to the building. In no time at all Burnstar had parked the car and grabbed Izukus' suitcase from the trunk of the car. Taking hold of it, Izuku followed Burnstar into the hotel where the woman signed her in.
"Well," Burnstar said as she handed Izuku the card to get in the room, "As much as I want to talk more about your Quirk, it's getting a bit late and you should probably get some sleep. I'll be back around seven in the morning to get you."
Izuku nodded and thanked the Hero again before the older woman had to leave. The small teen walked over to the elevator and took it up to one of the top floors of the hotel. It was a surprise to her when she learned the room number. It seemed as though the Hero didn't mind spending a lot of money on someone that could easily fail the Approval Test.
Izuku quickly did her nightly routine while Lazu flew around the room to check for anyone that was not supposed to be there and for exits he could lead his summoner to in an emergency. After checking that everything was all well the small dragon curled up on the bed and watched as his summoner did some nightly stretches before she went to get in the shower. Normally he would lay on the ground of the bathroom and enjoy the warm humid air, but he was too tired to get up.
Her nightly routine went by quick and soon enough she was sitting on her bed, phone and notebook in hand, and her tv on and playing an older All Might movie. She had already tied her hair up into a braided bun, as leaving her hair down while she slept was a mistake she would never make again, and was ready to begin her research about another summon. She was thinking about perhaps a water based summon this time. Izuku already had air and ground covered for the most part.
Izuku was so into her research she never noticed as her eyes began to droop and her pencil falling out of her hand only to fall onto the floor. She must have been more tired than she had thought.
Izuku woke up with a gasp as she felt something smacking into her face. Looking down she saw a grumpy Lazu with his tail poised ready to give her another slap if she needed it. Seeing the unfamiliar bedspread she quickly looked around the room to get some sort of bearing to where she was at. Then she remembered.
"Fuck!" Izuku cursed as she threw herself across the bed to get to her phone. It showed that she had an hour before Burnstar would be there to get her and she still needed to get through her morning exercise, dressed, and eaten before she got there. Izuku knew better than to rush through her exercises, as it could do more harm than good, but she did manage to get through everything she needed to do and even had time to quickly choke down a cold coffee, a bagel with cream cheese, and a grapefruit.
By the time she had thrown on some working out clothing, appropriate for working out in public, and filled her bottle of water, Burnstar was already in the lobby of the hotel waiting on her. Thankfully Burnstar said that there was no rush, but she still felt bad and hoped that the Pro-Hero didn't report her lateness, even if it was by a few minutes, to the Pro-Hero overseeing her testing.
Nevertheless the duo made it to a large building not too far away from the hotel Izuku was staying at. It was tall, a skyscraper really, with a large planet on top of it with two rings crossing over each other around the planet. The two went in through the back gate of the building only to have to go through two security gates, a few armed guards, a few Heroes, before being able to get out of the car.
From there the two entered the back door of the building and went through one last checkthrough just to make sure they were safe to enter the building. Burnstar showed Izuku to the elevator and when they entered it they went down instead of up.
"Why are we going down?" Izuku asked, feeling nervous without one of her summons out with her. She had to recall Lazu while in the car after Burnstar said her summons wouldn't be allowed out inside of the building until they reached one of the gyms.
"The gym reserved for you is down here," Burnstar said as she turned and gave the nervous teen a calm smile, "He'll be in the room waiting for you so I'll be leaving you after. I'll be back later when you need to get back to the hotel."
Izuku nodded as she took a deep breath and followed the Hero out of the elevator and down the hall. "Okay," she said softly to herself as she released the air in her lungs. She could do this. She's been training most of her life to do this. She made a promise and she is intending to keep it. For herself. For Katsuki. For her mom. For anyone who needs a Hero.
"Here we are," Burnstar said, stopping in front of a large tall door, "Go ahead and enter. No need to knock, and kid, good luck."
"Thank you," Izuku said as Burnstar made her way back to the elevator. She closed her eyes for a moment and took another deep breath before releasing it. She reached out, a slight tremble to her hand, and grasped the door knob. After twisting the knob to open the door she slowly opened the door and stepped into the room.
The gym was massive and covered in cushioned mats. On one side the gym had weight lifting, then there was a gymnastics area, and the rest of the area was empty. Empty except for one tall man.
"Hello young miss!" the booming voice of the man echoed through the room, "Come in! No need to be shy!"
Izuku closed the door behind her and stepped further into the room until she was only a few feet away from the man. She had to tilt her head up a bit just to see his face. The man had a wide smile on his face, but it didn't look forced nor did it seem disturbing. It was a confident and kind smile.
"Hello, All Might, sir," Izuku said softly, giving the man a small smile of her own as she introduced herself, "I'm Izuku Midoriya."
