Chapter 6: A Peace Conference? This is the Dragon Shrine?

"I think that's my cue to get out of here." Xellos stammered.

"Hey, Xellos!" Lina snapped. "You're just running away to save yourself?

"Not at all." Xellos took to the air. "But as Aria-san said, this is the temple of the Fire Dragon King. It wouldn't do for a Mazoku like me to hang around here for very long, would it?" he made his retreat.

"Look." Amelia pointed to the herd of Golden Dragons flying overhead.

"That's the Supreme Elder." Filia gaped.

"Is this how you people always have to enter a scene?" Lina complained when the herd of Golden Dragons landed in front of them.

"Those people there are the elders who lead this temple." Filia explained when the Council of Elders turned into their human forms in a blinding flash of light. "Supreme Elder..."

"These are the ones?" the Supreme Elder peered closely at Lina. "Do not worry yourselves over destroying part of our temple." he assured. "Visitors, this way please." he led the way.

In the dining hall...

"You must be tired after your long journey." the Supreme Leader led the group to the large hall where a feast had already been laid out. "Rest here and eat all you wish."

"Time to eat!" Lina cheered and rushed to the table.

"Filia." the Supreme Leader started. "I wish to have a word with you."

"Have you finished eating, everyone?" Filia peered in after a while.

"All finished." Amelia chirped.

"Then, if you'd come this way." Filia gestured. "The Supreme Elder is calling for you."

Outside the temple grounds...

"Yup, I thought that must be it." Aria nodded, the Supreme Elder had put the group to work repairing the wall that had been destroyed.

"You know, it doesn't show on their faces bu I think these guys are really mad at us." Amelia noted as she dug up the rubble.

"Why didn't they just say so from the start?" Zelgadis complained.

"Gourry-san seems to be enjoying this." Amelia remarked, seeing Gourry heave a wheelbarrow of rocks.

"He gets to use those muscles he was naturally born with." Zelgadis snorted.

"Your insults are still as on point as ever." Aria teased.

"All right." Lina grinned. "Let's do this. That takes care of that." she dusted off the stone dust after destroying the fallen debris with a 'Dragon Slave'.

"That's it for the cleanup." Zelgadis nodded. "All that's left is rebuilding the temple."

"We'll take care of this all at once." Lina took charge.

After having Gourry cut a large boulder into uniform blocks, Aria had the Golden Dragons carry the stone blocks to the locations she indicated.

"Vu Vraimer Special!" Lina remodeled one of the stone blocks into an artistic design as per Aria's blueprint.

"Let's see here..." Aria looked at the rough sketch she drew up. "Please put that right there." she pointed. "Please take the next batch over there." she instructed.

"As expected from Ragradia-sama." the Golden Dragons were impressed by the new stone structures that were put up. "You really have a complete understanding of Vrabazard-sama's construction tastes."

In the Council Room later...

"This is the Great Cathedral of the Dragon race." Filia brought the group in.

"You've done well." the Supreme Elder greeted the guests. "We were testing you to see if you were the ones spoken of in the prophecy of destruction. It's a good thing you cleared away the temple's rubble as well."

"I'm sick of this." Zelgadis retorted. "You may not know what this prophecy means, but do you have to be so evasive all the time? If you don't trust us, why not take care of this yourselves?"

"That's a good point." Amelia mused. "Why doesn't the Dragon race just take care of this prophecy of destruction itself?"

"That would go against the prophecy itself." the Supreme Elder replied.

"And there's the simple reason that we cannot do it." another Elder added. "We must keep it from the Mazoku race's watchmen who lurk in the darkness."

"Thanks to your destroying both Gaav and Phibrizzo, the Mazoku race has grown impatient." the Supreme Elder explained. "The truth is, their power is now severely diminished. The danger is that they'll be on guard for any chance to diminish the power of the Gods. For that reason, we who serve the Fire Dragon King, cannot risk using our power. And the prophecy arrived with the appearance of that disturbing light. It lies too far away for even us who possess wings and the prophecy indicates something is behind its appearance. For that reason, we must be very careful in selecting who goes there."

"In calling us here, this means you've made your decision, then." Aria concluded.

"To be honest, I still don't know if we should be entrusting the fate of the world to the most pacifist of the Dragon Kings." t he Supreme Elder admitted. "However, there is no clear evidence that we shouldn't do it. For that reason, we've decided to put our faith in you."

"What the..." Lina gaped when Armace crackled into existence within the room.

"It's him." Gourry recognized the intruder.

"That guy who was with Valgarv before." Lina exclaimed.

"What?" the Supreme Leader was shocked. "You mean he's a... but how could he have entered this sacred place?"
