A/N Hey, guys. Welcome back to the ninth chapter of the Riverdale fanfic series featuring the Hawthorne family. So first off, I hope you guys are doing well, continuing to stay safe out there, getting vaccinated. Second, I want to apologize for the slow update because last week I got vaccinated and I felt some soreness on my left arm. I had to wait for the soreness to go away for a couple of days so I can type without feeling any pain. But anyway, this is the chapter you guys have been waiting for since the beginning of the story. This is the back to school semi-formal chapter and things are about to get really interesting. So this is the ninth chapter, and here we go.
I only own the Hawthorne twins and their parents.
A couple of hours after ending their first day of high school as sophomores and joining the Riverdale Bulldogs and the River Vixens, the twins returned home in hopes of telling their parents about their first day experience.
"Mom? Dad? You home?" asked Leia.
"Looks like they're not home yet." Luke muttered.
The twins raced upstairs to their bedroom and put their backpacks down as they go through their closet and decide what to wear for the back to school semi formal. While they were going through, they heard the front door open and the twins knew their parents were home.
"Kids, are you home from school?" asked Natalie.
"Yes, mom!" Leia replied.
"Come down. We're having a family meeting." Daniel called.
The twins walked out of their bedroom and went downstairs to the living room. They both hated when their parents called for a family meeting to discuss some matters that doesn't involve one of them whether if it's school or work related.
"The reason that I called for a family meeting is that mom and I had a run in with Alice today while we were looking for employment." Daniel explained.
"And we didn't have a nice reunion as expected. She hasn't changed a bit and her attitude still remains the same." said Natalie.
"There is something we wanted to ask you when we were in school today." said Luke.
"Did you guys know Betty's older sister Polly got sent to live at a place called the Sisters of Quiet Mercy?" asked Leia.
"We heard some rumors going around the small town since dad and I were looking for work today." Natalie replied.
"Betty explained that when her mom found out Polly was dating Jason Blossom, she flipped out and told Polly to break up with Jason. And that's how Polly ended up getting sent to live at the Sisters of Quiet Mercy." said Leia.
"Don't you guys think it's cruel to send the eldest kid to live in a place where they don't feel like they belong?" asked Luke.
"Now that you ask about it, we really can't say much." Daniel replied.
"That reminds me. The school's having a back to school semi formal this evening. Betty kind of invited us to go with her and Veronica." said Luke.
"And Archie's going there too. As their escort." said Leia.
"That's interesting. Mom and I used to go to the back to school semi formal before you kids were born." said Daniel.
"Make sure you guys have fun and not doing anything reckless." said Natalie.
"We won't, mom." said Leia.
Later that evening, the twins changed into their best suited outfits for the semi formal. Luke changes into his suit and adjusted his tie as he looked himself in the mirror, feeling happy that he looked nice for once. Leia changes into her mid length dark green dress and lets her hair hang loosely between her shoulders. Like her brother, Leia has brown hair, but instead of sharing the same eye colour, she has blue eyes.
"Leia! Time to go!" her older twin called.
"I'm coming!" she replied as she grabbed her jacket.
Leia left her bedroom and walked downstairs to meet with her twin brother, fully dressed in a suit and a tie. He puts on a pair of shoes and she puts on a pair of flats.
"Have fun, kids!" Daniel called.
"Make sure you call us before curfew!" Natalie reminded.
The twins head to Riverdale High to attend their first back to school semi formal. As they got there, everyone else was dressed formally. As the song I Took A Pill In Ibiza Saab Remix by Mike Posner played in the background, they looked around to see if any of their friends were in the crowd, and they spot Betty before the blonde walks up to them.
"Hey, you guys made it." said Betty.
"It's our first back to school semi formal this evening. And besides, we do have to dress formally for the special occasion like this." said Luke.
"You look really nice there, Miss Cooper." said Leia, admiring the blonde's outfit.
"Same to you guys." said Betty.
"Where's Archie?" the older twin asked, looking around for the red head.
"He went to talk to Miss Grundy." Betty replied.
'Something doesn't feel right. Archie still hasn't decided if he wants to come clean or not.' the older Hawthorne thought.
The older Hawthorne twin breaks out of his thoughts as he stood beside Betty and observed Cheryl walking up to the stage, joined by Josie McCoy and her bandmates Valerine Brown and Melody Valentine. And Leia joins her brother and her best friend.
"Good evening, friends. Are you all having a good time?" asked Cheryl.
The attendees cheered in response.
"As an honorary chairperson and defacto queen of tonight's semi-formal," Cheryl continued.
"It is my great pleasure to introduce this evening's main entertainment; to know them is to be obsessed with them. Though they usually perform their own material, tonight they're making an exception and debuting a cover of the song my parents claimed they were listening to the night Jason and I were conceived. This one's for you JJ."
"Is it true that Cheryl has sympathy for your older sister?" he asked Betty.
"It doesn't look like it." she replied.
"We need to find out more about what happened on the 4th of July." Leia whispered.
"I give you Josie and the Pussycats," Cheryl concluded her speech and introduced the girl group as students cheered and applauded.
Josie, Valerie, and Melody began their rendition of Cyndi Lauper's "All Through the Night."
"So, you want to dance?" asked Luke as he offered his hand to Betty.
"Yeah." Betty simply replied.
The older twin placed his hands on her waist and the blonde puts her arm on his neck.
"Do you feel comfortable leaving your sister all by herself?" asked Betty.
"I don't know. The only time that I did a slow dance with her was back in Dallas." Luke replied.
"She's dancing with Reggie right now." she said as she nodded her head.
Luke turned around and observed his younger twin dancing with one of teammates from the football team. He turned back around and saw the troubled look on Betty's face.
"Hey, is everything okay?" he asked.
"I'm fine. When I got home from school today, my mom caught me wearing the River Vixens cheerleading uniform and she flipped out on me." she replied.
"My parents had a run in with your mom today while they were looking for work. And they heard the rumors about Polly living at the Sisters of Quiet Mercy." he said.
"Could we just focus on being happy? I don't want to discuss anything about my mom and what she said to me when I got home today." said Betty.
"Sure. But there is something you need to know." said Luke.
"What?" she asked.
"Leia has feelings for Jughead. And she had a habit of twirling her hair when she talked to him for the first time since we were kids." he replied.
Before Betty can ask more questions, the song ends, as the older twin and the blonde clapped along with the students.
Meanwhile, Cheryl watched the duo with Tina and Ginger.
"Make sure those two turtledoves come to my after party. Veronica too. Including Leia Hawthorne too," Cheryl instructed her minions.
"Oh, this should be fun." Luke muttered, having a bad feeling of what's going to happen when they attend the after party at the Blossom residence.
And that concludes the ninth chapter you guys have been waiting for. So, what did you guys think? Love it? Hate it? Luke definitely has feelings for Betty. Will he be able to tell her how he feels about her? And Betty now knows that Leia has a crush on Jughead. In the next chapter, the after party at the Blossom residence and the discovery of Jason Blossom's dead body. And yes, Emma Fuhrmann does have blue eyes.
