OC x Izuku Midoriya

'for those with the hunger to achieve.'

Chapter 6: Hands On Approach

"My classes have mostly been me getting in shit for attacking Bakugo or tripping up the grape, but for the most part I think things are going... well... I think."

Yukino hummed, screwing a part to her machine together. I leaned back in my chair, sipping my water slowly from the straw, and observing people walking by slowly.

"That's good, did you choose a class rep yet? I hear those are good spots to get." Yukino commented. I blew the water out of my straw and made bubbles in my drink.

"Midoriya got class rep."

"Oh, you mad about it?" She didn't pause in her tinkering, not that I expected her to. I shrugged.

"Not really, dude is just so weird. I don't know what to think about him. One minute he's all friendly to my face and the next he's trying to tell me he wasn't lying when he said he's quirkless." I sipped my water again.

"Maybe he's a late bloomer." Yuki supplied.

"You ever heard of someone getting that kind of quirk in their teen years? I don't think so." As I said this, I noticed Todoroki walk by us. Dude was practically that OP boss you have to face in those action games but somehow you get strong enough to beat him in an absurdly short amount of time. Fat chance of that happening. Meanwhile he waltzed around like none of us existed.

My eyes shifted, and I noticed someone staring at me from across the lunch room.

Midoriya's gaze was glazed over at first, but it was clear he had been staring in my direction. As I turned my head to face him, he seemed to come to. His eyes bugged out, and he had a moment of panic before swiftly spinning around to turn back to his food. His gaze slowly turned back to me a few moments later though, and I noticed Iida and Uraraka were also with him. They turned to look at us too, which was a bit nosy. I scowled.

"The hell are they looking at?" I muttered, then looked over to Yukino. She wasn't paying attention, but that was the first time I noticed the bag sitting on the ground next to her. My brow furrowed as I reached my toe out to poke it. It fell over, allowing a small outpour of letters to slide onto the floor. I looked back at Yukino, raised a brow as I pointed down to the mess.

"What's this?"

She finally came out of her concentration when the gadget was all together. She looked to me, confused, then down to the bag, and back to me.

"When did you get here?"

I sighed, slumping back into my chair. Kicking the small garbage bag full of letter only became entertaining for a short while. Yuki finally caught on to what I was referring to and leaned over to pick them all up.

"Stop it. I don't want anyone to see me take these." She tied the bag shut once it was cleaned up and propped it on the chair next to her. One letter was sticking out of the bag slightly, and I noticed a tiny cute heart drawn on the corner.

Were those...

"Love letters?" I stared in astonishment, and Yukino sighed.

"Thank you cards." She corrected with a tint on her cheeks. I giggled, it was happening so early now.

"Lemme guess, you've already captured the hearts of several members of your class." I teased, and Yuki glared.

"Shh! Don't let them know!" She squished the bag down a bit and looked around. "I wanted to take them home and get rid of them. They were taking up too much room in my locker."

Sometimes I forgot how cutthroat Yukino was. She didn't have the tolerance for romantic gestures, and she hated sweet talk. The moment they wrote that letter they were written off. Poor guys and gals, they tried.

"That Midoriya guy stares at you a lot." Yukino said. I ignored my temptation to look at him, and instead gestured to her sack of sappy cards.

"Nah, they're staring at this weird ass bag of cards you've got. You should at the very least take a peak Yuki. If you're going to act like you read them they'll want a reply." I crossed my arms and observed her as she clutched the bag tightly. A few cards puffed out the top.

"I'll run away from my problems and you keep running from yours." She huffed before gathering her stuff and standing up. I was taken aback by the reply, but recovered enough to stick my tongue out at her.

"Heartbreaker."

"Bonebreaker."

A usual dismissal we used on each other. I watched her go and stayed quiet as she left the cafeteria. It was then that I saw Midoriya get up from his table to take his and his friend's trays to the trash can.

"I meant what I said when I told you I was quirkless."

How the Hell does someone go from not having a quirk to having one? It didn't look like he wanted to use it much. Was it something along the lines of he couldn't? Then why didn't he say that?

"I know it doesn't make sense but- but I was quirkless."

My feet picked me up before I even realized I was moving. Midoriya had his back to me then, but as I neared him, I called out.

"Hey," I felt awkward, but some part of me wanted to chuckle when Midoriya turned to look at me. He realized it was me and turned pale as a ghost. Did I scare him that badly? "Uh, if you're scared of me, I can just go... yeah I'll just-"

"Wait!" Midoriya jolted a step forward. I halted, and looked at him. He looked nervous again, but seemed to literally swallow down his fear. "I-I-I just didn't expect you to talk- talk to me."

Why did that sting?

I took a breath and looked away from him, and then back.

"What you said, before," I started. Midoriya's back straightened. "About being quirkless. You said-"

An alarm sounded, getting both of our attentions.

"Warning. Level 3 Security Breech. All students evacuate the facility in an orderly fashion."

"Just great." I muttered. Midoriya looked more worked up than I did as he looked around at people freaking out.

"What is a level 3 security breech?" He sounded anxious, but when I looked casually over to him, he settled a little.

"Just means somebody made it past the barriers they have on campus. It's not the end of the world, even civilians can get in if they really try for it. Best not to panic." I looked away from him, watching the others run around. "At least not like these fools."

Iida and Uraraka came running up to us as Midoriya followed me out to the hallway. It was pretty ridiculous that everyone was freaking out so much right now. Here these kids were supposed to be UA students, looking down on others. Here they were, skittering like lab rats.

I got shoved hard into the wall, subtly cursing myself as I squished Uraraka against the window.

"Hey! Arakawa!" Iida called. I looked over my shoulder as I tried not to be shuffled further into Uraraka and the window. Poor girl wasn't too much shorter than me, but she was definitely going to be squished. "It's the news press again!"

News press?

I looked out the window then, catching a glimpse of flashing cameras and people swarming around someone. The media somehow got in? I mean, I guess it wasn't that impossible. It was mostly big walls and sensors, so as I said to Midoriya, it wouldn't be impossible for civilians to get in.

I got bumped again, nearly squishing Uraraka again.

"Fuck this." I muttered, then reached into my jacket pocket to grab a spare grapple. I had gotten into the habit of carrying pieces of my suit around to get used to them even more, and in this situation, it was just so much better than getting squashed.

I launched my grapple up to the wall ahead of us and landed beside the exit sign.

"HEY!" The students looked stunned. "What the Hell?! You look like a bunch of lab rats! We are UA students, not some has been high schoolers! Walk like you're UA students and pay attention to what you're doing!" I gave a cheeky grin. "Panicking ain't gunna help you sweetheart."

I looked to Iida, who was practically vibrating on the spot. A single nod from me and he was speaking up too.

"Everyone! The break in was just the media! There is no need to panic! Stay in single file lines and show them what exemplary students we are!" Iida called, already organizing people into lines. The students began to settle down, and the shoving ceased. I watched the students relax a bit more, and the ones below me moved aside as I undid my grapple and landed on the ground.

A few students looked at me, but I gave a quick glance at Iida to see he was still doing more work. I couldn't see the others, and decided to dismiss the moment from my mind and carried on out of the hallway, shuffling in between students as I went.

The next morning, I was thoroughly pleased to watch Midoriya shake in his boots as he stood in front of the class. Boy didn't have much presence to him, which was sort of funny considering the sheer power of his quirk. I watched the replay of the attack he did, which looked more like he was trying not to aim for me at the last moment, and it made me wonder why he purposefully missed. My nose twitched as my mouth slipped into a thin line.

"You'll have to pick the rest of your positions for the committee by the end of the period. Preferably by the time my nap is over." Aizawa collapsed into his caterpillar form while Midoriya and Yaoyorozu stood quietly behind him as the secondary rep. Midoriya took a deep breath and then made eye contact with me.

"Actually, I want to nominate Arakawa as the class rep." He said suddenly, taking me by surprise. Midoriya gave a small smile as he took in my surprised expression. "You managed to get everyone to calm down yesterday. Even people not in our class."

Iida turned in his chair and looked at me.

"Yes! Arakawa is a fine example of leadership in a difficult situation!" Iida stated. I sat back in my chair more and crossed my arms.

"Pass."

Everyone looked surprised when I dismissed the nomination. I took a breath before giving a small shrug.

"I'm not leader material. I'm good at being an ass when I need to, but you don't need that. You need someone who can quickly gather information in a pinch, dictate roles to others, and still keep a level enough head to execute the plan."

I looked over to Iida, and he looked surprised when I gave a lopsided smirk.

"You need an Iida."

Iida stared for a moment, and I watched as whispers of agreement flooded the classroom. Iida smiled at me then, before standing up and turning to the front.

"I will humbly accept this position with honor and gratitude." He said, bowing at the waist. I was right to choose him, he definitely wanted the role the most.

"You idiots! None of this matters. Hurry up with the officer assignments." Aizawa called from the floor. Midoriya quickly took his seat as Iida came to the front. Briefly, I glanced over to the messy haired boy, only to find him looking back at me. For a moment I observed him as he nervously turned to the front again, before turning to look ahead as well, a tiny smirk slipping onto my face again.

I yawned, emotionally preparing myself to go to the testing lab for the support team. As part of being Yukino's friend I was also her guinea pig. She would often get me to try out all her gadgets. This was fine, but the girl who also frequented the lab, Hatsume, was just terrifying. She made a claw machine that nearly broke my wrist clean off if Yukino hadn't changed it into a weaker fabric.

"Hey, Arakawa! Wait up!"

I looked over my shoulder at the sound, my half-up hair swishing in the motion. Uraraka waved to me as she fell into step beside me. I didn't say anything at first, unsure as to why she was talking to me.

"I just thought you should know, it was really cool of you to let Iida have the position as class rep. It really meant a lot to him." She explained, but I just shrugged.

"Good, he suits it better as well. Besides, I'm not cut out to lead, I barely follow the rules myself." I looked down at her and saw an understanding smile.

"Can I ask, who was that girl you were sitting with at lunch? I've seen you two talking a few times." Uraraka pried. I didn't mind though, at least not when talking about Yuki.

"That's Yukino Hiroshima. She and I have been close friends for years." I said, a small smile drifting onto my lips.

"Oh cool! What course is she in? It's nice that you got in with your friend." Uraraka looked up at me. I grinned.

"She's in the support course, and she has a really cool quirk that lets her manipulate materials to alter their makeup. It would be a cool hero quirk, but Yuki instead decided to be my support team when we met. She's the one who built my hero costume and support items." I pulled my grapple from my pocket to show Uraraka. Her eyes widened.

"Oh wow! She must be pretty talented to do that already. And she's definitely talented, your suit looks great Arakawa." I paused in my walking then and looked down at her. Uraraka stared up at me, then started to look a little nervous. "Something wrong?"

I hesitated, but when I saw nothing but kindness in her eyes I relaxed and looked back at my grapple. A fondness came into my chest.

"Yuki was the first person other than my siblings to believe I could be a hero," I gripped the grapple tighter, "so I can't let her down."

"Somehow I doubt you will." Uraraka smiled, and I couldn't help a smile gracing my own lips. It was a nice gesture.

"Well, what are you two talking about?" I heard a familiar voice from where we had come from. We both turned a bit to see Iida and Midoriya walking up to us. Midoriya glanced at me, and out of reflex I nodded to him. He seemed a bit surprised, but didn't say anything about it. Iida on the other hand came closer and bowed at me.

"I would just like to say I appreciate the vote of confidence! You managed to sway the class with just that statement." Iida then stood up tall. I felt a little nervous by the grand gesture.

"Don't sweat it. I just figured you were the right guy." I scratched the back of my neck.

"Oh! Arakawa! Did you want to come and eat lunch with us today?" Uraraka asked. I paused, then looked at the time on my phone.

"No," I looked up and felt the need to explain then. "I need to meet Yukino at the lab. Hopefully Hatsume doesn't tear my arm off today..."

All three looked nervous after I said that.

"Just what are they doing to you?" Iida asked. I chuckled.

"Oh, don't worry. I just test some equipment for Yuki, but sometimes Hatsume likes to get me to try it." I paused, then recalled the first time I used a grapple at top speed. I twirled the grapple in my hand a bit. "Besides, Yuki's the only one that's broken my bones or dislocated anything, and that hasn't happened in a year or so."

A few jaws dropped.

"That doesn't sound like you're testing out a friend's items." Midoriya commented.

"It sounds like you're being tortured." Iida added. I gave a lopsided grin and shrugged.

"Some people don't have quirks to fall back on, so I need to trust my support team to carry me." They didn't disagree with me on that one at least. I tossed the grapple in the air before catching it as I turned around.

"I really gotta go, see you guys." I called over my shoulder again.

Hatsume didn't rip an arm off, but I did get a mild burn on my left forearm. I didn't have time to go to Recovery Girl and take a nap, so I just wrapped it up and left for class. Today we were going to an off-site facility. I had managed to grab a few of the test subject staffs from Yukino today, but they weren't properly tested yet. They could hold my body weight and take a decent hit, but because they could become compacted into pocket size they had to be hollow metal. I had fiddled around with them for a while until I got the gist. Yuki wanted me to first decide if I liked the build of the model and more ground level stuff prior to actually making them weapons.

The bus ride to the facility was... interesting.

Asui brought up a good point about Midoriya that I had overlooked before.

"Isn't your power just like All Might's?"

I watched Midoriya cave then, looking extremely nervous as he muttered under his breath. Kirishima piped in though.

"You're forgetting that All Might doesn't hurt himself, Asui."

It was a valid point, but-

"I know it doesn't make sense but- but I was quirkless."

Was.

Past tense? Could be a play on words but, how was he so certain he had no quirk when we met? All Might didn't hurt himself, but if Midoriya had a similar quirk that he... somehow obtained... wouldn't that mean he would hurt himself if it was the same level of power? If so, where the fuck did it come from? And why did he have it now but not then?

My head hurt.

"Well, I mean I would love a flashy quirk like yours Midoriya. Mine's pretty basic. I can harden and kick some bad guys around, but it's nothing cool looking." Kirishima lamented. I felt my shoulders sag as they each talked a bit about their own quirks. A few glanced at me, but I stayed silent sitting in the seats across from Bakugo and Jirou, the others in front of me.

"Well Bakugo and Todoroki have the most pro quirks out of all of us." Kirishima complimented the two, however Todoroki was fast asleep. I did have to agree though, Todoroki's quirk was probably one of my favorites that I had ever seen.

"Yeah but Bakugo is always in a bad mood so he'll never be popular." Asui pointed out. I smirked as Midoriya just about fell on the floor.

"Who the fuck asked you?!" Bakugo shouted back, but Asui didn't look fazed. Damn I liked her.

"See what I mean?" Asui pointed out. Kaminari smirked slyly.

"Y'know we just met and all of us already know your personality is a flaming pile of trash." Kaminari smartly added on. I snorted, and Bakugo rounded on me.

"Who the fuck asked you Arakawa?!" I kept smirking as he glared at me, and looked back at him from the corner of my eye.

"Oh please, you couldn't take the 'quirkless loser' on, what hope do you have of taking anyone else in this class?" I challenged, hearing Kirishima and Kaminari whistle at the taunt.

"Shut up! I'm gunna kick your ass!" He shouted. I turned my head to fully face him, stared, then just chuckled and looked away. As expected, it pissed him off further. "WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT ABOUT?!"

"Hey! Knock it off! We're here. Try to look somewhat civilized." Aizawa called from the front as the bus slowly rolled to a stop. It hadn't been a long ride, maybe 5 minutes, but the building we had arrived at looked absolutely massive.

We all exited the bus in an orderly fashion, with Iida enjoying his role as class rep a little too much. What awaited us through the doors had me excited.

It was Thirteen, the rescue hero. She was famous for having rescued people all over the world with her quirk Black Hole.

"Hello everybody! Welcome to the training station! I call it the Unforseen Simulation Joint! But it's mostly known as the USJ!" Thirteen called out. I observed her and Aizawa chat quietly, realizing that All Might didn't seem to be present. Aizawa and Thirteen talked before he situated himself on a wall and Thirteen continued on. She gave a small speech about quicks, something I honestly wasn't paying attention to as movement over her shoulder caught my eye.

The lights flickered. The water in the fountain faltered. Then something dark appeared at the base of the fountain.

It started to grow.

Large enough that several bodies walked out of the shadowed mass and towards the stairs that separated us from them.

"Did training start already?" Kirishima asked. I felt my back tense as a few more people walked out of the haze.

"Stay back!" Aizawa warned, lowering his goggles. "Thirteen, protect the students."

"Mr. Aizawa, what's going on?" Uraraka asked from beside me. I had a pretty good idea that this was not part of the training exercise.

"These are not simulations. Villains have broken into the school." Aizawa explained. Several people froze up, I tensed as the villains got closer.

Aizawa didn't waste any more time as he leaped down the stairs and absolutely trashed several opponents at once. It was a bit startling to watch the usually haggard and tired hero actually showing his talents as he cancelled quirks while also kicking the crap out of others.

But we had to leave, and I had a deep-seated feeling in my gut that we shouldn't. But Thirteen was commanding us to move and I knew standing there was the last thing we should do. We turned and booked it for the doors. Yet not fifty feet later the dark shadowed mass appeared in our way. Thirteen opened her arms to direct us to halt, and I had a feeling Black Hole was about to make its appearance.

"How curious, the symbol of peace is nowhere to be seen. Tell me where is All Might? He was meant to take his last breath at this very school. It must've been an unforeseeable change that he is no longer here." The mass spoke, but my eyes fixated on the metallic guard he had on. It looked like a neck guard, but why would a dark mass need that unless he had a body to protect, right? Black Hole would be perfect for-

Bakugo and Kirishima jumped in front of Thirteen to try and strike the villain. The strike whipped up a huge amount of dust and smoke, blocking our view of him.

"You idiots!" I shouted, pulling out my staff from its holder. It elongated to its full length and I gave it an experimental twirl. Bakugo and Kirishima looked back, but I could barely see them. "You just gave him a smokescreen!"

A dark laugh filled our ears as the black mass encircled all of us. I looked to my side where Midoriya stood with a stunned expression. He looked at me, stretching his arm out. I froze, fighting the urge to reach out as well. Then the darkness engulfed us both and I was completely blinded. My feet were ripped from under me, and the next moment I was falling. Light came back to me long enough that I got my senses as I landed on a flat surface, barely getting my feet underneath me in time.

"Well well well. Look what we caught today boys."

I slowly looked at my surroundings, and gritted my teeth when I saw five men cornering me at the edge of flat surface. A building, it was a building half destroyed by a landslide from what I could see.

One of the men took a step closer, the ground vibrating with the movement. He leered at me.

"Oh how I love making little girls scream."

Wow uh, that was a really impressive response I got. Like legit wasn't expecting this or anything. I was hoping maybe to get one review, but this really blew it out of the park. I hate to say it like this but the amount of reviews made me rush to my computer to write more! Which is lowkey so great because a lot of times I spastic-ly write for several hours and then don't touch my computer for weeks after unless it's to upload or try and will myself to edit.

I am moderately happy with this chapter, and I hope y'all like it too. I'm actually excited for the next chapter. Koga's in the Landslide zone! How will that turn out I wonder? You'll have to wait and see! I don't have a ton to say other than I have sorted out Koga's and Midoriya's relationship in my head, so now on to sorting out the others! Also, I don't want people to think Midoriya is staring at Koga like a lovestruck puppy or anything, I actually see it more as Midoriya having a getting lost in thought moment, but he's staring at her because he was briefly thinking about her being all cranky and slowly talking to him vibe. If that makes sense.

I am so in love with this pairing too btw. Like, I legit love the dynamics I have planned and hope you guys like them too. There is so much that's gunna happen that only midoriya and Koga will understand on a deeper level than everyone else because of them originating as quirkless. I hope you guys will like it too, because I originally had her with Todoroki, but I can't quite see them as being interested in each other in that sense? It was when I watched the sports festival and thought 'I could totally see Uraraka with Bakugo' that Deku came to mind.

Also, what are all of y'alls opinions on the mean green lima bean? I just love the character. I actually love a lot of the characters in MHA, even the ones I 'hate' are well made characters. I think my fav villain so far has been Overhaul, and my fav character has got to be Hawks. i saw a still of him a while back and swore my heart would be stolen when he got animated. He is *chef's kiss* perfecto plus ultra!

I need to make a Hawks story one day...

Review Responses:

JuggernautJJ: I know, Koga takes a lot of inspiration from American super heroes. Her grapple is actually because of Spiderman, and I imagine her swinging like he does. Her staff is actually something that will (eventually) remind me of Mjolnir, and the suit idea was a mix of Batman and Iron Man. She gets more unique as time goes on, but this is her start line.

ocomhdhain1: I think there is opportunity for reform down the road, but I think a lot of Mineta's attitude is linked to his character design itself. He's not attractive like Todoroki, so he knows girls aren't going for him, so he gets what he can get and that's that. So changes in persona wouldn't be easy, but I'll keep that in my back pocket. It would be nice to have a few moments between different characters with Koga.

YaoiLuvinKitsune: Lol no, if anything I think Bakugo is more furious that somebody without a quirk did that to him. I like to think he imagined Deku doing the same thing and he loses it every time he thinks of it. I love Koga, and I love the concept that she is, in a sense, ahead of everyone right now. She's gone through some intense training with her father to fight and work around other peoples quirks, but don't worry, it's a running theme that she may be ahead now but the others will catch up. Until then Koga is gunna be kickin' ass and taking some names.

Ben Turner1: I actually researched a lot of what I could about quirks, both from the manga, anime, and what the artist has said. The rough estimate I got from it all is that by age 7 most people find their quirk and by age 10 they have it. Keep in mind that Koga is someone who went through extensive testing and examination for a quirk, so she is aware of how much effort is put into the entire thing. And to be honest, Koga is the type of character to hear something like that and get even more pissed off, because she is someone who is still desperately hoping it'll happen to her.

MIKE202303: Yus, thanks muchly.

Guest: Thank you! Koga is the type of person that walks into a relationship expecting it to fail, so I think it's safe to say starting off with this sort of mentality is easier on her int he long run, because she is getting midoriya's actions to speak for him, at least in coming chapters.

Thank you all for your reviews. I hope you enjoyed this chapter!

Cheers!
