As the last day of the training camp arrived, everyone warmed up to Yuuma... which, honestly? It scared him a little bit how everyone seemed to act chummy with him.
In fact, their friendliness caused him to stay away from everyone as far as possible. However, Hanamaki and Matsukawa made it clear that Yuuma was a part of the team now. Every so often, he would see his brother giving him a dark look before Tooru looks away with a huff. That only made Yuuma smile in defeat, knowing that no matter how much effort he puts into it, no matter how hard he work on mending their torn bond; Tooru would remain stubborn.
He had always been like that and a trait that Yuuma admired his brother for having. "Yuuma-kun~" The plate he'd been drying almost slipped from his hold but the trespasser reacted fast, catching the plate with one hand. "Oops? Didn't mean to startle you." Matsukawa gave him a silly grin and if Yuuma didn't know any better, he would have thought that the taller third year was making fun of him.
"I... It's okay, Matsukawa-san. At least the plate didn't break."
Matsukawa gave him a confused look before he leaned against the counter, watching him dry the dishes. The attention unnerved him, especially that feeling of being stared at so intensely as if someone wanted to know a secret. The glass he was drying was the last one and after that, Yuuma could finally hide in his room for the rest of the night. They'd be going home tomorrow morning, after all, and he wouldn't have to deal with this much attention.
No one approaches him at school unless it has something to do with academics, after all.
"So... did you and our captain get into a fight before the camp or something?" Again, the glass slipped from his hold but Yuuma caught it just in time this time. The shock brought upon by Matsukawa's words startled him and Yuuma's reaction startled him as well. "O-Oi."
"I..." Yuuma carefully placed the glass down in the cupboard. "Please don't interfere, Matsukawa-san." The look he gave the raven-haired teen caused the latter to step back in caution. Something about those eyes of his reminded Matsukawa of his own captain. The intensity in those eyes sent shivers down his spine.
Oikawa Yuuma was definitely related to Oikawa Tooru. No one could replicate that glare so perfectly. That's why Matsukawa raised both of his hands in defeat. "Hai, hai, I won't."
Matsukawa Issei watched as the brunet left the kitchen and once the taps of his foot disappeared, he let out a relieved sigh. That conversation (could it even be called a conversation?!) had drained him of what little energy he had left that night. "Gotta make sure I don't piss him off either."
"Who did you piss off now?" Hanamaki walked in with a puzzled look. Issei rubbed the back of his head, wondering if he should tell his friend his encounter with Yuuma just a few moments earlier. "Noticed how Oikawa and his brother seemed so tense around each other?"
"Dude, everyone noticed that shit and didn't say anything about it."
"... yeah, I asked Yuuma-san earlier. Looks like it's something serious, too. He didn't say anything definitive though but the way he reacted told me." Issei watched as his friend shook his head. "Idiot. Try not to butt in. What if Iwaizumi gets wind of you meddling in? We're dead."
Issei winced just imagining that. "Yeah."
.
.
Iwaizumi Hajime watched as his childhood friend punch his pillow while ranting. "Dammit! Dammit! Dammit! I mean, what's so good about Yuuma anyway?! Everyone practically accepted him into the team just like that! He didn't even make any conversation with anyone unless they spoke to him first—"
"Oikawa."
"— and how long is he going to put that goody-two-shoes front up anyway? He's an arrogant, insensitive, heartless—"
"Oikawa."
"— good-for-nothing twin! He should have just died in the womb!"
A loud smack echoed in Hajime's room as he smacked his setter on the face with a pillow... hard. "O-Ouch! Iwa-chan, what the hell was that for?!"
"Did you even hear what you just said..."
Just how idiotic was his friend anyway? How could he let his emotions get the best of him?
Oikawa lost the look of incredulity when he saw the dark look on his ace's face, only for it to morph into confusion when his Iwa-chan didn't do anything else after smacking him with a pillow. "Iwa-chan? Is something wrong?"
"Oikawa, are you an idiot or something?"
"Geh— what are you saying?!"
Hajime clamped his hands on the brunet's shoulders... and headbutted the setter. Oikawa cried out in pain and began rolling around the floor of his room. "IWA-CHAN, WHY ARE YOU BEING SO MEAN TONIGHT?!"
"It's because you've been becoming stupider each day, Crappykawa! No matter how mean, no matter how stupid, no matter how arrogant, no matter how heartless you think he is—" Hajime aggressively pointed at Oikawa, his brows furrowed close together in his anger, and a scowl marred his face.
"— Oikawa Yuuma is your family! Hell, he's your fucking twin! I'm sick of you avoiding your fucking problems, Loserkawa! Face your brother like a man and make up already! You two are idiots for not clearing up what happened back then!"
An annoyed expression crossed Oikawa's face with each word that left Hajime's mouth.
"What happened back then..? Isn't it obvious that he threw me away like trash?! It's like everything we did together didn't even happen!"
"Then ask him, stupid! Ask him why he's acting that way!" Hajime panted, out of breath since he's been shouting for about a minute now. Sighting his setter's phone, he snatched it and flipped it open. "I'm texting him."
A look of horror painted Oikawa's features. "No..." He quickly got up from his position on the floor and tried to tackle Hajime and steal back his phone. However, the ace simply held him back by holding his head and pushing it down on the mattress. "Iwa-chan, don't you dare do it!"
"Shut it, Trashykawa. You have to settle this problem of yours before Inter High."
"I don't wanna! I don't wanna!"
"... and sent."
Hajime glanced down at his friend who had become frozen stiff. "He'll be waiting at the park in ten minutes. Get your ass up and move. Or do I need to kick you out of the window?"
Oikawa comically scrambled away from him. "I'm going! I'm going! Sheesh, I hate you, Iwa-chan."
"I hate you, too, crybaby captain."
