Kapitel 19 – You're the First One
Soft. Sweet. Supple.
This was it. She is the one - someone he didn't know he waited all this while; someone he couldn't know would be the one. There was no explanation. It was just…right. She's just right. She is everything right in his life.
There was no mistake. This is the right one.
She is the right one.
Deepening the kiss, Levi angled his mouth over hers and tilted her chin up further. Freya's heart pounded hard and fast when his lips touch hers. At the sound of him breathing in through his nose, she lifts her hands shakily and touches his jaw.
That touch of hers made Levi slips his tongue into her mouth.
Her hand immediately fell to his chest, and she made a noise that she herself felt embarrassed when she hears it, gripping his jacket tightly when her heart pounds even harder. This feeling was too much. Too much!
Levi releases her lips with a light pop, watching as her eyes remains closed in bliss. No words came up to him as to how his mind and body chooses her. She was just there, 10 years ago, and her image has since then ingrained itself into his mind.
For just a moment, he was reminded of the time where he had suddenly 'awakened' as a child.
"Still surreal?" Levi asks her almost arrogantly, feeling slighted that she would deem his move towards her a dream.
Freya panted, hands still grasping the front of his uniform. She knew she looks like a tomato now. Looking up at him through her lashes, she stuttered, "A- A little still- mmph!"
Leaning back in, he gave her a hard peck on the lips and kisses her forehead lightly. "I want you," he said softly, looking into her eyes as he whispered in a low voice. "I just want you. Only you."
Freya blinked. She almost smiled. She knew of Levi's reputation amongst the women. Only a fair few time he had actually slept with them, but that was it. Just to release some heat. Soldiers does that, more so in the Scouts Regiment. Of course, everything is consensual. They knew their time is short when they are in the Scouts Regiment, and despite how fleeting some of them are, they do treasure feelings, bonds, and relationship most.
It was what kept them sane behind this cage after all.
Although for Levi's case, no woman ever gets to spend the night in his room. Once done, they're out. He didn't want them to be near him anymore after the deed is done. And comparing those with how gentle he has been with her for the past few days after the nightmare at Trost, it would seem as if he were completely fine with her presence near him, close skin touches and all. Those woman in Levi's past life gave him the feeling akin to his body rejecting their presence near him.
But not Freya.
Never her.
It felt as if…
As if he just…awakened. To her.
Slowly, Freya raises her hand back up to his face, gently brushing aside a stray hair from his forehead. This lovely, gorgeous man. How could anyone be so beautiful? Levi was someone completely out of her league. Never in a thousand years had she ever thought this day would come, that she'd be in his arms, with him kissing her forehead and looking down at her as if she is all that is right in his world.
She bet that if she ever asks him, why her, he wouldn't be able to give her a straight answer. Count it as a gut feeling, but she had half the mind that Levi doesn't really know what's happening either.
Maybe it's just a simple want, she thought to herself. I'm new and useful. Maybe. Couldn't imagine Levi Heichou in love.
Little did she know, it is indeed a budding romance. She just never expected that Levi was not the romantic type.
Not one bit.
Completely hopeless. The man didn't even know what to do in the name of love.
Freya stares up mesmerizingly to his eyes. She didn't know about this, but most people couldn't look into Levi's eyes for more than 2 seconds without feeling fear. She was one of the handful of people brave enough to look at his eyes.
And the only one he kisses on the forehead.
"Has anyone ever told you how lovely your eyes are, Levi Heichou?" Freya looked into his eyes, smiling as she said so. Truly, the colour in his eyes were magnificent. There are times she mistaken his eyes as a slight blueish grey, but now that she's up close to him, she realizes that its almost silvery grey, the deeper sort of shade that most people would mistake them as blue when under a certain shade of light.
Like the colour of storms. She smiled when he widens his eyes a little. Truly mesmerizing. She could stare into them forever.
Levi inclined his head a little at her praise. Apart from his dead mother, she is the only one that said this. Fate has played a very cruel joke on him since young – from his birthplace, his mother, and his close friends, Furlan and Isabel. Was Freya Fate's redemption for him to continue life in this cruel and heartless world as someone he could care and cherish?
Was she someone Fate gave him to be his companion, whether he is sick, whole, or broken?
He almost scoffed. What bullshit he is thinking right now.
He has her in his arms right now. And that's what's important.
Fate can fuck off.
Though this is the case, he knows he shouldn't. They're fighting Titans for God's sake. There was no guarantee that he will not die in the next expedition. He shouldn't care and shouldn't get so close to her.
But he just couldn't stop himself from leaning in and kiss her again.
Fate be damned. He just didn't want to live in regret.
"You're the first one after my mother," Levi said in a low voice, caressing her cheeks with the back of his fingers and gently pulls her in for another kiss.
Arriving at the barracks, they got down the horse and heads towards the dungeon first to talk to Eren.
Fishing out the walking cane for her, Levi handed it to Freya and righted her collar from its skewed position. "Wait for me at the dungeon's entrance," Levi told Freya, nudging his head towards the direction of Commander Nile Dok, currently yapping away at a Wallist and Merchant. "I'm going to speak to the nutheads over there first, least they get too excited about the court case."
Freya nodded her head obediently, watching Levi walking away with his back to her. She almost smiled when she saw the rest of the rather giant-like Military Police's soldiers somehow just make way for the infamous Captain Levi, giving him a wide gap and avoiding the smaller built man completely.
Everyone inside out of the Walls fears Captain Levi, huh? Freya thought amusedly to herself before heading towards the dungeon's entrance.
And that's when the nut and the joke appeared in the form of Sigmund and Rolf, the very same Military Police soldiers who tried to smack her down when she walks past them the other time.
Sigmund noticed her first, and snickered with his buddy, Rolf. Freya merely gave them a glance and smiled sideways. That level of confidence. Did these two chaps thought they're someone with some standing here? Hmm, Freya thought. Probably one has a Wallist as a relative, while the other, probably a distant relative of Commander Nile Dok.
"Well, well, what do we have here?" Sigmund said, nudging his friend's sides with his elbow while the other hand rubbed his nose with his thumb. "If it isn't the little bitch, 'ey Rolf?"
The first one to yap is the first one to go down. Looks to it that Sigmund is the one who has the connection.
"Sigmund Falk, Rolf Wagner," Freya said their names with ease, adding a bright smile to confuse them. "What a lovely surprise."
Rolf balked, surprising Freya. "Y-you remembered our names?" he stuttered, eyes darting nervously towards Sigmund for directions.
Freya narrowed her eyes at them. Judging from the way Sigmund looks right now, she'd wager he's on drugs. Rolf on the other hand, looks mighty jittery to look like someone who just had drugs.
Then probably just Sigmund. Rolf is just the sidekick who can't afford drugs, Freya summed to herself. Lovely, she smiled.
"Of course," Freya answered, flashing them a radiant smile that confuses them even more. She knew what sort of move they thought they could pull out on her. Yes, they may be bigger than her in size and body frame, but unfortunately the same couldn't be said for the brains. They had probably thought they could scare her with how their last meeting ended, and more so when Captain Levi is not near her.
"I am the Captain's Secretary. It's a requirement of sort for this position that none of you people could reach," she added, dropping an indirect jab at them that they don't seem to get. She smiled sympathetically. Poor things could not even understand conversation when high on drugs. "So why are you here?"
"We're here because of your Captain, lass," Sigmund said with a sneer and moving in close to her face to terrify her, but only managed to balk at the last minute when Freya lifted her walking cane and give it a twirl in the air, narrowly missing a direct knock of solid wood to the side of his nose.
He momentarily felt the wind that brushes past his face. That one twirl could probably do in a serious damage to his nose if he didn't retreat in time. "Damn bitch!" Sigmund hissed, glaring at her with his watery red eyes. "Be careful with that!"
"Lovely cane, isn't it?" Freya casually said with a smile, her eyes twinkling while she admired her walking cane. She lets her finger glide on the sleek wooden shaft, her eyes never leaving her finger, knowing the two idiots would stare right at where she is touching. "Levi Heichou got it for me. Apparently, I can beat someone up with this real good. I just haven't had the privilege to test it out yet…"
Her words trailed off into a soft whisper, having her two audiences put under a short spell of mesmerized trance. Stopping the twirl, Freya holds the cane upright in the air and pointed it towards Sigmund, smiling coldly. "Would you like to be the first to try?"
A loud order barked from afar, breaking the tension between the two soldiers and Freya.
"Soldiers!" Commander Nile Dok barked, walking towards them with a frown, apparently noticing Freya with the walking cane in her hands. "What are you hovering around here for? Don't you have any jobs to do?!"
Sigmund Falk and Rolf Wagner stood up straight and saluted their commander. Freya stepped back and leaned on her walking cane with a smile. Commander Nile glared at Freya and snarled at her, "I said, Soldiers! Didn't you hear me?"
Freya blinked in pretended surprise. "Oh, hello Commander Nile Dok. What a nice surprise," she said with a bright smile. One fist on her chest, she gave him a slight tilt of her head and introduced herself to him. "Captain's Secretary, Freya Walker. I'm the Intelligence and Information Keeper for our Scout's Regiment. Pleased to meet you."
The Military Police Brigade's commander frowned in confusion. "Information Keeper?"
Freya wriggled her eyebrows in respond. "That's my job scope. I handle the bulk paperwork of my superiors in the Scout Regiment. Would you care to alert your Soldiers of newly promoted or newly hired officers? Usually, I'm fine with people not saluting me, but calling the Captain's Secretary 'lass' and 'bitch' is too much, don't you think?"
Commander Nile scoffed and looked at the two sneering soldiers. He touched his nose with his thumb and looked at Freya up and down, as if to judge the new nicknames on her, "That wouldn't be my problem-"
"I believe it is, Commander," Freya interrupted the older man, smiling at him and dropping her voice to a lower notch so the others wouldn't hear her, "They tend to learn all these untoward attitudes from the best examples in front of them after all…"
Now there is one thing that Commander Nile Dok is strongly sensitive with, and it was the touchy subject of his subordinates learning all their attitudes towards other regiments from him. His neck reddened in embarrassment and flared his nostrils angrily. "You-" he started and was about to give Freya a piece of his mind on suggesting her to go back home and get herself a man before he was again, interrupted by two other power figures.
Erwin Smith and Captain Levi, the duo he hated to deal with most.
"Commander Nile Dok," Erwin addressed with a stiff smile, not happy to see three Military Police soldiers cornering his cousin. "I see you're getting acquainted with Captain Levi's secretary."
The other commander looked flabbergasted. Freya merely smiled wider. Clearly, it looks to everyone there that he doesn't really believe her new position in the Scouts Regiment earlier, let alone now.
"His secretary?" he croaked, first looking over at Levi and Freya, then looking back at the two Military soldiers currently sweating cold sweats standing there awkwardly while all the power figure now surrounds them.
Talk about a reversed spot, Freya thought to herself, amused with the turn of event. What an awkward situation.
Erwin kept his face cool as a cucumber and fired back in a no-nonsense tone, "As a confirmation, I believe I just said that, yes Commander Nile. She is Captain Levi's new Secretary."
Levi from the side added in scathingly, his stormy eyes gave the Military Police lot a quick swipe, "She is hired to handle my paperwork while I train the cadets. Is there a problem?"
Commander Nile gave no other respond apart from glaring at Freya and walked off with a loud, "Hmph!"
Levi stepped closer towards her and asked, "Did the old shit gives you any trouble?"
Freya looked over at the other two Military Police soldiers standing close. They can't leave in the presence of a Commander or any higher seated officers than themselves if they receive no specific orders to do so. She gestured towards them with her head and said, "His soldiers called me 'lass' and a 'bitch'."
The reaction was swift. Erwin's gaze snapped toward them and glared at the two soldiers. They cowered underneath his bright blue eyes that seemed to glow with unleashed anger.
Erwin Smith is a very, very scary man to deal with when his eyes glowed with that fury.
"But with all due respect, Commander, Captain," Freya started, giving both man a salute with one fist to her heart. "We will be late if we continue to waste our time with them. Two soldiers in the Military Brigade without any ranks high on drugs aren't worth any of our time and our purpose here."
Suffice to say, it worked as a good distraction. Levi walked ahead first with Freya whilst Erwin leaned towards his assistant standing nearby and said, "Get their names. We'll come back to them later."
Calling his cousin sister 'lass' in military grounds? More so 'bitch'?
He'll make sure to make them a lass later.
