Disclaimer: I do not own Pokémon

I'll admit, this chapter is not very exciting. The plot for it is even more simple than the simplest episodes of Pokémon, but for every bad short chapter there's always one good one. Thank you.

Logan looked and waited for three hours trying to find a Mudbray or a Mudsdale who could be the family or herd to his, but all he found were many of the different types. He hid, he baited, even mimicked Mudbray's vocals but no quadrupled brown Pokémon showed up.

While he was trying and failing Mudbray was looking out with a forlorn look on his face. He was losing hope he was ever going to see his family, and it would be even harder for him when Logan stroked his nose.

"I'm sorry, but I just can't see them anywhere. Maybe we can come back and try again, but not when I am busy trying to complete this challenge of mine."

Mudbray mewed a sad whimper out but didn't try to make Logan feel any sadder than he already did. He sat down waiting for Logan to return him into his PokéBall. Logan didn't do that. He was looking at the sky for reasons Mudbray couldn't understand because his ears were folded.

And then—he heard what Logan was hearing: the sound of wings flapping. This flapping was close and very low to the ground. Mudbray flitted his eyes to the left and right looking for whatever Pokémon was making that sound.

That sound turned out to be coming from an Oricorio.

Logan didn't know much about this Pokémon but it was yellow instead of red, pink or purple and had two tufts in its wings that resembled pom-poms. Logan didn't know much about this Pokémon but he really wanted to capture him or her.

The Oricorio was gliding overhead towards the town of Melemele Island. It was losing altitude very quickly and eventually dropped on the ground, but was picked up by Logan making chk-chk noises.

"You poor lil Oricorio. You need to see the Pokémon Center."

Mudbray clomped behind Logan jogging to the Pokémon Center.

Along the way he passed a Pokémon who resembled Litten only scruffier with eyes with more ferocious slits. Using his Pokédex he scanned the Pokémon: Torracat.

That turned out to be a stupid decision as Oricorio needed two hands to hold it; nearly slipping off. However, Mudbray's head was used as a stool keeping it safe until Logan had both wings safely on his arms.

Logan eventually made it inside, showed Nurse Joy the wounded bird Pokémon, and waited for her to come out and tell him what its condition was.

In all that time he forgot to return Mudbray to his Pokéball. He was standing on his rear-legs resting his under chin on Logan's lap. Logan looked at him just as forlorn as Mudbray looked at him.

"I know, it's not fair that a wild Pokémon I just met is getting helped while your still astray from your parents. If we see another Mudbray or Mudsdale on our journey...I'll remember to take you out and talk to them."

Mudbray thanked him by sniffing his palm before giving it a very gentle lick. Logan felt happy he and his maybe temporary Pokémon came to an understanding.

Nurse Joy called for Logan to come to the counter—he returned Mudbray to his Pokéball. He approached her with a face disdain of joy or sadness for Oricorio while she was frowning.

"How could you do something so horrible to your Pokémon, leaving it in such harsh weather conditions?"

"No, no, this is all a misunderstanding...that's not my Pokémon, I found it that wa-"

"I don't want to hear your excuses. I have three other patients here trying to have their Pokémon healed but now they have to wait because of your terrible care!"

Logan knew from experience arguing with people who are angry was just a waste of energy. He turned around and sat down, waving his left hand to her. She glared one last time before going to another room carrying Oricorio on a tray.

Half an hour later, Oricorio was perched on the tray with a white sash around her wings and chest. Nurse Joy strutted in anger to him.

"Oricorio is fine now...it won't be so lucky next time. You better take better care of your Pokémon." She stood stolidly, her eyes flitting from Oricorio to Logan's unmoving hands. "Aren't you going to take back your Pokémon?"

"She's not my Pokémon."

Nurse Joy blushed in surprise. Now she felt back about the way she yelled at him.

"Oh, I'm sorry. Do you want to take Oricorio back or should we take her for you?"

Logan needed a moment to think about that. If Oricorio did have a trainer than he couldn't capture her and there was no place he could keep her warm if she was traveling with him. However...

"I'll take back, thank you."

Logan had something to ask Oricorio but only wanted to do it outside when they were alone. Logan squatted down so he could make direct eye contact.

"Listen, I know we just met and this may sound crazy...but would you like to join my party?"

"Or...cor." The bird replied.

Logan didn't know if that meant "yes" or "no". The only thing he could do was take out a pocketed Pokéball, sway it around until he was sure Oricorio got a good look at it, then tossed it in the sky, Oricorio jumping with it.

Logan smiled. "Then it's settled, I'm going to capture you."

He shoved the Pokéball in her direction as she herself opened it with her wing. And then—she was inside the Pokéball as Logan's newest member. He didn't know it but this moment would be the last happy moment he would have for awhile.

Later that night, he was awakened by the crying sounds of Rattata.
